DAY 12 - Morning
Theme: UNDERSTANDING COMMUNICATION: Learning To Speak In Ways That Build and Not Break
Reflection
BE PRESENT, NOT JUST AVAILABLE
Good morning,
There is a difference between being available and being present.
You may be sitting in the same room with your spouse while your mind is somewhere else. Your phone may be in your hand, your television may be playing, and your spouse may be talkingтАФbut emotionally, you are absent.
Marriage needs more than physical presence. It needs attention.
Sometimes your spouse does not need you to solve anything. They simply need to know, тАЬYou are here with me.тАЭ
In our busy Ghanaian livesтАФwith work, traffic, church activities, children, business and extended family responsibilitiesтАФit is easy for couples to share a house but stop sharing their hearts.
Don't let busyness steal the little moments that keep love alive.
GodтАЩs Word
тАЬLook not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.тАЭ
тАФ Philippians 2:4
TodayтАЩs Love Action
Give your spouse at least 15 minutes of undivided attention today.
Put the phone away. Look at them. Listen. Ask how they are really doing.
LetтАЩs Talk
When was the last time your spouse had your complete attention without having to compete with your phone, television or work?
Prayer
Lord, help me to be truly present with my spouse. Teach me to recognize the moments when they need my attention, my listening and my heart. Help us to reconnect in the middle of our busy lives. Amen.
From The CounselorтАЩs Chair
Sometimes the greatest gift you can give your spouse is not money, advice or a solutionтАФit is your undivided attention.
Marriage Nugget
тАЬBeing in the same room is not the same as being emotionally present.тАЭ
Remember:
In marriage, it is not about winning the argument; it is about winning each otherтАЩs hearts.
