WHAT IF THE PROBLEM IS NOT THAT WE DON'T KNOW THE TRUTH? What if sometimes, we know the truth—but we simply don't want it? Sometimes we call greed ambition. Lust love. Revenge justice. Pride confidence. Disobedience freedom. Compromise happiness. Why? Because the truth can confront something in us that we don't want to surrender. Jesus said: «“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts…” — Mark 7:21» The problem isn't always our behaviour. Sometimes, it is our heart. We can attend church, quote Scripture, use Christian language, and still refuse to surrender the places in our hearts that Jesus is confronting. But the Gospel gives us hope. Jesus didn't come merely to make us look better on the outside. He came to make us new from the inside. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17 So perhaps the question today isn't: “What is everyone else doing wrong?” Maybe it is: “Jesus, what is happening in my heart?” What have I been defending? What have I been calling happiness? What have I been calling freedom? And does Jesus agree with me? Not everything that feels good is good for us. And surrender may not always feel good at first—but His hands are trustworthy. If your heart has wandered, come home. If sin has become comfortable, come to Jesus. If there is something God is asking you to surrender, lay it down. You don't have to fix yourself before coming to Him. Come to Him, and let Him begin the work. What is one thing people often call “happiness” today that can actually destroy the soul?
