DAILY GOSPEL — DAY 6
WALKING IN NEW LIFE
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
UNDERSTANDING THE WORD
What happens when a person comes to Christ?
Paul gives us a powerful answer:
“He is a new creature.”
Being a Christian is more than simply changing a few habits or trying to become a better person.
Something deeper has happened.
In Christ, we have a new identity and a new direction for our lives.
Paul says:
“old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
This does not mean that Christians instantly become perfect or never struggle with temptation or sin again.
It means that our old life no longer has to define or rule us.
We now belong to Christ.
THE GOSPEL
This new life is only possible because of Jesus Christ.
A few verses later, Paul writes:
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV
Jesus was without sin, yet He gave Himself for sinners.
Through Christ, we can be reconciled to God.
The Gospel is therefore not simply:
“Try harder.”
“Become a better person.”
“Fix your life.”
The Gospel points us to Jesus Christ.
Through Him, sinners can be forgiven, reconciled to God, and begin a new life.
WALKING IN NEW LIFE
If we are new creatures in Christ, that new identity should begin to affect the way we live.
Our thoughts.
Our words.
Our relationships.
Our priorities.
Our choices.
Our attitude toward sin.
Our relationship with God.
There will still be struggles.
There will still be temptations.
And there may be times when we fall.
But we should not become comfortable returning to the life Christ has called us away from.
Instead, we continue turning toward Him — through His Word, prayer, repentance, obedience and faith.
The Christian life is not about pretending that we are perfect.
It is about belonging to Christ and learning to walk with Him.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for the new life that is found in Jesus Christ.
Thank You that my past does not have to define who I am.
Help me to leave behind the things that belong to my old life and teach me to walk faithfully with You.
When I am tempted, give me strength.
When I sin, give me a heart that is quick to repent.
When I become discouraged, remind me that my hope is found in Christ.
Let my thoughts, words, choices and actions increasingly reflect the new life You have given me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
REFLECTION
What does it mean to you personally to be “a new creature” in Christ?
Is there something from your old way of life that God is calling you to leave behind?
And what is one practical way you can walk differently with Christ today?
