What Does It Profit A Man?
Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
If you are like me, you interpreted these two verses to mean “What does it profit (benefit) a man to gain the world (Possess everything he always wanted) but in the end lose his soul?” To mean, you could conceivably gain EVERYTHING and in the end MISS heaven!
The Lord prompted me to read this again and this time to translate the word, Soul, into the Greek Word, “Psyche” . Now to help clarify, the Greek word for life is “Bio”. The Greek Word for mind, is “Psyche”. In both Matthew and Mark, Jesus is said to be saying, “Psyche”. Implying that one could gain the world if God the Father so chose to give it to him or her and still make it into Heaven.
But at what cost? If God the Father blessed me with everything I could ever want but when I got to Heaven, Jesus had to tell me, “Fredrick. My Father gave you everything but you gave me nothing.
Me personally, I would lose my mind at that point. I would rather God the Father give me what I need and I give Him my Heart. Then, at least Jesus would tell me, “My Father didn’t give you everything you wanted, but at least you gave me your Heart, Mind, and Soul. (In other words, my Psyche.)
