Happy Sabbath everyone.

Is it legalism to worship only the one true God, or do you do it because you love Him above all others?

Is it legalism to reject idols and false gods, or do you do it because you want to honor the One who gave everything for you?

Is it legalism to guard your words and not take the Lord’s name in vain, or do you do it because His name is holy and precious to you?

Is it legalism to listen to and have respect for your parents, or do you do it out of love?

Is it legalism to not harm or hate others, or do you do it because you value life as God does?

Is it legalism to not have sexual relations outside your marriage, or do you do it because you love your spouse?

Is it legalism to not steal from others, or do you do it because you care about justice and integrity?

Is it legalism to not lie or deceive, or do you do it because you want to reflect the truth and character of Christ?

Is it legalism to not covet what others have, or do you do it because you’re content with God’s blessings in your life?

If it’s not legalism to honor God, respect life, cherish marriage, tell the truth, and keep all these other commandments out of love — then why is it called legalism to rest on the day God Himself blessed, the seventh day, and spend 24 hours with Him, ceasing from our own work to delight in His?
