  • USE IT AND GET MORE OR FAIL TO USE IT AND LOSE IT - Derek Prince
From 1957 to 1961 I served as principal of a teacher training college for African teachers in Kenya. During that time we had a sovereign visitation of the Holy Spirit in our college. In meetings with my students I saw all nine gifts of the Spirit in operation among us at various times. I also saw two of my students—on different occasions—raised from the dead. They both testified later of what they had experienced while their spirits were out of their bodies.
Later, in America, I received an unexpected “gift” for ministering to people who were lame. As I seated them in a chair and held their feet in my hands, the shorter leg would grow out in front of my eyes and they would be healed.
Some people, however, suggested that this was not an appropriate ministry for a dignified, scholarly Bible teacher. I decided to ask the Lord about this and I felt He gave me this answer: I have given you a gift. There are two things you can do with it. You can use it and get more. Or you can fail to use it and lose it. There and then I decided to go on using what God had given me, and indeed I did receive more.
On occasion I have seen a short leg grow out as much as two inches. Also the release of God’s supernatural power in this way triggered other miracles. In one place, without any special prayer being offered, a man was healed of three major infirmities and delivered from nicotine addiction.
I remember one woman who came with a paper bag in her hand and a one-and-a-half-inch buildup on the heel of one shoe. When I took her feet in my hands, her short leg grew out one and a half inches. Then she opened her paper bag and took out a pair of new shoes with normal heels. They fit
    her perfectly.
I eventually decided that the scriptural name for my gift was “workings of miracles (power).”
About the same time God directed me into what I came to see as a different application of the same gift. He began to use me in the public casting out of demons. Once again, there were those who objected to the noisy and disorderly manifestations that often accompanied this ministry. I observed in the gospels, however, that similar manifestations often accompanied the ministry of Jesus and so I decided to continue. In the years that have followed I have seen thousands of people wonderfully delivered from demon power.
If we desire the unhindered operation of spiritual gifts, we sometimes need to set ourselves free from traditional ideas of how we should behave “in church.”
Another key to exercising spiritual gifts is to cultivate sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and to make room for Him to move as and when He wills. On one occasion, Ruth and I were having lunch with a Christian couple, and the wife shared that she had a medically diagnosed genetic defect that made her unable to utilize certain amino acids. Her brain was progressively deteriorating.
The husband left to keep another appointment, and we walked back with the wife to their apartment. In the parking lot we paused for a moment to say good-bye. Prompted by the Holy Spirit, Ruth said, “Let me pray for you.” Then we parted.
About three weeks later the husband told us that his wife had been completely healed. This was later confirmed at the same hospital where her condition had been diagnosed.
In that instance, God had just one place and one moment where He made healing available. Because Ruth responded to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

  • 2 Thessalonians 3:16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

Today we look at the end of a letter by the Apostle Paul to the Thessalonians. In his letter, he did a lot of correcting and teaching, being very stern and strict. It was probably a letter that they received that made them feel a lot of conviction, given just how in depth his commands were for their behavior and addressing church discipline, idleness, and persecution.

Despite the correction and commands regarding behavior, Paul also realized he needed to encourage them. Thus, we get today’s verse. It is near the end of 2 Thessalonians, being the 3rd to last message in the letter. His concluding greeting was filled with well-wishes for the church. His words were meant to fill them with peace after all of the harsh correction.

Paul told them he wished them peace at all times, in every way. That meant no matter how hard life got, how many storms came or how many troubles they faced, they could rely on the peace of God to fill them and weather the storms together. God’s peace transcends any circumstance or any situation, no matter how bleak and hopeless it may seem at the time.

Paul’s encouragement was not just written to the Thessalonian church members who were walking in God’s grace obediently, but to all of them, including those who had fallen from grace and were not living godly, holy lives. He had told them not to associate with people who were living in idleness or being disruptive. But he still included those people in his final greeting, reminding them of the grace needed and given to restore harmony.

And what is better than receiving His grace and being filled with peace? Paul said may the Lord be with them always. And not just being with them always, but be with them ALL. Again, he was pushing them to be united and one body, the Body of Christ, His bride. True peace and tranquility does come from anything we do as believers. Instead, it is a divine gift of God that involves personal companionship with Christ.

Why did we get a verse like this in our month’s devotions? It is not just a fancy good-bye at the end of the letter, though it does satisfy that role, as well. No, it was a reminder that God is the source of our peace and being with Him and walking in His presence will bring you great comfort in the circumstances you find yourself in.

We need to learn to embrace all God has for us, especially His presence in times where things feel uncertain or out of control. Focus on His truths. Don’t just ask for resolution in whatever you are facing. Trust in His plan. Trust in Him. He has always been faithful and He will always be faithful. He is our Provider, our Sustainer, our hope, joy, and peace. No one can take that away from you so embrace it fully with everything you’ve got.

And when anxiety hits, like we know it will, prioritize your response - let prayer be the first thing you do. Cultivate a calm inner peace through prayer and Scripture. Ask God to give you peace to guard your heart during those anxious moments. He is the Lord of peace, afterall.

The final note as we wrap up today’s devotion. Paul included everyone in his final greeting. We, the current day believers, should do the same. We don’t have to hang out with people who are actively living in unrepentant sin but we do need to choose our response. Extend grace to those who have offended you And choose to be a peacemaker for others.

I echo Paul’s concluding words: “May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” And I pray the same for each person reading this. Let His peace fill you at all times, in every way because I know that He is with us.

    MONDAY JUNE 15, 2026

    DIVINE ENDURING PRESENCE

    A WORD FROM THE WORD:

".... For he himself has said, 'I will be with you at all times.'" Hebrews 13:5 BBE.

When I was growing up as a young new believer, I had thought I was missing something in the world by my profession of faith in the LORD Jesus Christ . It was when I became a 'son' I realised that nothing good has passed/will pass me bye because of the choice I made to follow the LORD Jesus.
God's promise of His unwavering presence and support in our anchor Scripture, captures the essence of you not being alone or abandoned when you put your trust in the LORD Jesus.

The encouragement for you today as a believing child of God is this - be rest assured that there's nothing good that will pass you bye because of your faith in Christ Jesus, and your choice to follow Him; but please follow Him all the way, even where there seem to be no way and through the desert/wilderness of life.

    He knows the way.

You will always have His enduring presence with you, that's a sure guarantee from Him.

    PRAYER BULLETS:

Thank You LORD Jesus, for Your comforting assurances in my walk and work with You. My present and future are safe with You.

Engrace me to follow You all the way, and all my life.

    FURTHER READING:

    Deuteronomy 31:6, 8; Genesis 28:15; Hebrews 4:16; 13:6; Psalm 55:22; 84:11.
