Sexting is a terrible thing. (‘Sexting’ is the new term for children exposing themselves to one another online, thinking they are safe because they are in the sanctuary of their own home.) Pornography is pervasive, and parents need to keep up with changes in technology and protect their kids. That’s a tough assignment, because kids are ahead of them. Parents often have extremely demanding careers and when they come home they have nothing left to give, so the culture will often take your kids to hell.’ One night a father and his daughter were out on a lake when their small boat was caught in a storm. As he rowed, Dad kept saying to his daughter, ‘Can you see the shore? Can you see the shore?’ After a terrifying hour the little girl pointed over her dad’s shoulder and said, ‘Yes, I see the light. Mum said if we were out after dark she would hang a light in the window.’ When they finally got home a tearful mother hugged her husband and daughter, and thanked God for their safe return. Looking at her, the little girl said, ‘Mum, you never had to worry. We steered by your light!’ Parent, your children are being caught in life’s storms. [17/08, 9:11 pm] Pastor Attah: *MEDITATIONS ON DAILY ⓂANNA* TUESDAY, 18TH AUGUST, 2026. *THIRSTING AFTER GOD* *TEXT:* PSALM 42:1-5. 1As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. *Timeless Truth:*_"O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;"_ Psalm 63:1). *INTRODUCTION* When a man ceases to experience thirst, he is as good as dead. The same is true in the spiritual. In fact, one of the first experiences of a converted man is thirst for God and spiritual things. Spiritual thirst is a deep longing for God and His presence. Just as the body cannot survive without water, the soul cannot flourish without God. The psalmist expresses an intense desire for the living God despite the pain, tears, discouragement and difficult circumstances surrounding him. His experience teaches us that genuine faith does not mean the absence of trouble; rather, it means learning to seek God even in the midst of trouble. When everything else fails, God remains the only lasting satisfaction for the thirsty soul. *1. Thirsting After God Like a Hart* a. The psalmist declares, *“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”* A thirsty hart desperately seeks water because its survival depends upon it. Many are thirsty for wealth, pleasure, popularity, power and pride of life among others. The thirst makes them pay a heavy price to get what they are looking for. At times they pay the ultimate price. True thirst will always be demonstrated by desperate seeking for how to satisfy and quench the thirst. In the same vein, many commonly seek God's blessings without seeking for the God of the blessings. The psalmist case was different. *"So panteth my soul after thee"*. Who and what you are passionately and desperately seeking for is a reflection of the state of your heart. In the same manner, the believer should have an earnest and persistent longing for God. The psalmist does not merely desire God's gifts; he desires God Himself. b. His greatest hunger is to *“appear before God.”* He was thirsty to become closer to God. Jesus also echoed this when He said, *"seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness"*. Our ultimate purpose for seeking God was to see His glory, be conformed to His image and be always ready for the kingdom of God. Jesus further assured that *"all other things shall be added unto you"*. The psalmist demonstrated his thirst for God when he decided, *"early will I seek thee...to see thy power and thy glory as I have seen thee in the sanctuary"* (Psalm 63:1,2). Our spiritual lives become weak when our desire for God is replaced by the pursuit of worldly pleasures, possessions, recognition or human approval. Genuine revival begins when the soul cries out for God's presence, His Word, His holiness and fellowship with Him. *Question* Is my desire for God as deep and urgent as the thirst of a hart for water? *2. Tearful Afflictions Giving Loss of Hope* a. Incidentally, the psalmist did not prioritize seeking for heavenly blessings above seeking for God just because everything was going well with him. In fact, the psalmist's circumstances have become so painful that his tears have been his food day and night. He was not finding it rosy in life at that time. One would have expected him, as many worshippers do today, to concentrate on seeking God for release from pains and troubles as priority. Worse still, people around him mockingly asked, directly and indirectly, *“Where is thy God?”.* His memories of former worship and joyful fellowship with God's people intensify his present sorrow. Yet that did not distract his affections towards God. b. At times, affliction can attack not only our circumstances, but also our emotions and confidence. Yet the psalmist's tears reveal that God's children may experience seasons of deep discouragement without being abandoned by God. His pain was real, but it did not have the final word. Even when circumstances seem to contradict God's promises, faith must continue to look toward Him. Seeking God and His righteousness, above all else, should not be diminished as a result of our pains, problems, persecutions and poverty among others. Whatever be our situations, the promises of God that *"all other blessings shall be added"* still stand as long as we keep seeking the face and the glory of God to be reflected in our lives above all else. We must have grace to be tougher than our tough challenges. It is our attitude and the content of our prayers in the time of distress and difficulties that reflect the genuineness of our love for God. Jesus Christ, while on the cross and under intense pains, was still consecrated to soulwinning and intercessory prayers for the sinners and the lost. The will of God and the glory of God was His priority. He has given us examples to follow. *Question* Am I consecrated to seek God and His glory as priority when affliction and tears surround me? *3. Trust in Abiding Grace with a Life of Holiness* When passing through tough times, we must maintain trust in God's abundant grace and continue to live the life that God approves. There is no challenge we pass through that God has not allowed and if God allowed it, then He will see us through as children. The act of faith is in mocking those challenges and still continues seeking the glory of God and heavenly readiness. We must learn how to feed our frustrations and fruitlessness with the word of hope and promises given by God. The psalmist speaks directly to his troubled soul: *“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God.”* He refuses to surrender permanently to despair. Instead, he deliberately redirects his heart toward God. Trusting God's abiding grace means choosing hope when feelings say there is no hope. It also means continuing to live faithfully, before God while waiting for His intervention. A thirsty soul must not only seek God's presence, but also remain committed to a holy life. God's grace sustains us, restores our joy and enables us to praise Him even before our circumstances change. For a child of God, no bad situation is permanent, but temporary and for a moment. *"weeping may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning"*. *Question* Am I deliberately trusting God's abiding grace and maintaining a holy life even when my circumstances are discouraging? *Prayer Points* 1.Father, create within me an unquenchable thirst for Your presence and Your Word 🙏. 2.Lord, strengthen me when tears, afflictions and discouragement threaten my faith 🙏. 3.Father, make me tougher than my challenges and keep me on being engaged in Your service 🙏. 4.Lord, visit and help those brethren who are carrying heavy loads and sustain them by Your grace 🙏. *HYMN:* More of Jesus would I know *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* JOB 35-38. In moments of discouragement, Christians serve as a testimony to those who have never met God or heard His voice.* *David exemplifies this in our devotional text as he expresses acute hunger and "thirst for God, the living God". In his hopelessness, he recalled the exhilarating moments he had in God's house and presence. Reminiscences of the voice of joy and praise filled his soul. Awakened by the testimonies of God's faithfulness and the certainty of blessedness that flows from trust in God, he gladly addresses his soul and jerks back from the abyss of despondency.* *Are you troubled about any ugly situation or setback? Cheer up and look up! Here are gems and clues for you as a Christian pilgrim, who could, at times, be discouraged and cast down. Don't stay down. David didn't. He queried and counselled his soul. First is to know that neither discouragement nor despondency is a sign of weakness. Elijah is one biblical character who fits this description. After defeating the prophets of Baal, he received a death threat from Jezebel. His hope was shattered, and despondency set in. He wanted to die! The Lord did not rebuke him for his feelings but sent an angel to provide for his physical needs. In our times of discouragement, suicide is no option; it only leads to a more serious, endless and interminable suffering in hell. The present challenge or problem has not diminished God's love for us. He desires to lead us to a place of a renewed vision of His power!* *The time to exit the discouragement mode is now! Take the verifiable steps that effectively log you out, which include a deep, interminable longing for God. This is what Isaiah calls "waiting upon the Lord". Second, you will do well to consciously recall and delight in God's past acts of mercy, divine interventions, and faithfulness. Finally, you must deliberately seek the remedy of praise to uplift your downcast, crestfallen, and discouraged heart. Beloved, don't give in to despair! I remember in Battle Creek when there were those who felt the burden for the unconverted, and those who were in darkness and saw no light; then prayer meetings were appointed that they might make the strength of God their strength. In every case the heavenly intelligences worked with these efforts, and souls were saved.45Manuscript 32, 1893. If there is a large number in the church, let the members be formed into small companies, to work not only for the church members, but for unbelievers. If in one place there are only two or three who know the truth, let them form themselves into a band of workers. Let them keep their bond of union unbroken, pressing together in love and unity, encouraging one another to advance, each gaining courage and strength from the assistance of the others. Let them reveal Christlike forbearance and patience, speaking no hasty words, using the talent of speech to build one another up in the most holy faith. Only a small proportion of the people accepted the doctrine; but the messengers bore the message rapidly from place to place, passing from country to country, lifting the standard of the gospel in all the near and far-off places of the earth. But there was a preparatory work. The Saviour's promise was, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me.” Those who will not follow their own will and desires, but seek counsel of the Lord, will not be dull scholars for the Lord will teach them.47Letter 42a, 1893.

May 29th, 2026 “Hang him.” That’s the pressure General Douglas MacArthur faced from Washington over what to do with Japan’s Emperor Hirohito for war crimes committed during World War II. But when MacArthur saw the total collapse of a nation that revered its divine leader, he concluded that revenge was not justice. Instead, he used his power of influence to walk down the path of reconciliation. History affirms that the rebuilding of this war-torn nation was a triumph. When Adam and Eve sinned, God had every right to let them die, but instead He took the initiative to reconcile the world to Himself. The Lord did not walk away from Adam and Eve, but actually pursued them in the garden (Genesis 3:9). Sinners are reconciled to God, not God to sinners. The plan to lead people back to God came through Jesus Christ. “If when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life” (Romans 5:10). The word “atonement” captures this coming together and means to be “at one” in a relationship that has been estranged. Christ’s gift to us goes beyond paying the penalty for our sins. Jesus certainly died as the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). The sanctuary service affirms the necessity of killing a sacrificial lamb. But it also reveals the intercessory ministry of Jesus in the heavenly sanctuary, where the benefits of His perfect sacrifice deepen our reconciliation with God. Jesus’ atonement was not only carried out for us, but transforms us from within to make us new in Christ. Reconciliation is not just a way to escape punishment, but to rebuild our lives into the image of our Creator. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Apply It: Are you estranged from someone to whom you need to be reconciled? Pray for God’s power to lead the way to peace. Need to know. PRAYER WARRIORS Prayer is not a mere religious exercise; it is the living breath of the soul and the sacred bridge between humanity and heaven. A strong relationship with God cannot survive without continual communion with Him. Scripture declares, “I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live” (Psalm 116:1-2). Through the examples of Daniel, Enoch, Moses, and the apostles, we are shown that the greatest spiritual victories were won not through human strength, but through earnest prayer. Daniel prayed even when threatened with death, for “his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God” (Daniel 6:10). Prayer was not an occasional duty to him; it was life itself. Ellen White wrote, “Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend.” Steps to Christ, p. 93. Prayer changes both circumstances and character. When Daniel blessed the God of heaven after the dream was revealed, he proclaimed, “Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his” (Daniel 2:20). True prayer lifts the soul above fear and anchors it in divine confidence. Enoch also stands as a testimony of constant communion with God, for the Bible says, “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him” (Genesis 5:24). His life teaches that prayer is not confined to moments of kneeling but becomes a continual atmosphere of the heart. True prayer warriors are not merely people who speak many words, but souls who walk daily in harmony with heaven. Ellen White states, “Consecrate yourself to God in the morning; make this your very first work.” Steps to Christ, p. 70. Moses stands in Scripture as one of the greatest intercessors. When Israel fell into apostasy, Moses pleaded before God with astonishing self-sacrificing love: “Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written” (Exodus 32:32). Here we see the spirit of true intercessory prayer, a burdened heart willing to suffer for the salvation of others. Prayer warriors carry souls before the throne of grace with tears, compassion, and unwavering faith. Moses also desired not merely God’s blessings, but God’s presence itself, crying, “If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence” (Exodus 33:15). This is the cry every believer must learn to pray in these closing hours of earth’s history. Ellen White wrote, “The darkness of the evil one encloses those who neglect to pray.” Steps to Christ, p. 94. The early church moved in power because it moved in prayer. Before difficult decisions and solemn farewells, believers bowed together before God. “And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all” (Acts 20:36). Heaven moves when God’s people pray together in sincerity and faith. Prayer strengthens the weak, comforts the discouraged, convicts the sinner and binds believers together in Christian love. In a distracted and prayerless generation, God is calling forth men and women who will seek Him with perseverance and reverence. Prayer warriors are not recognized by earthly fame, but by heaven’s approval. They understand that every true revival begins in secret communion with God. Ellen White declares, “A revival of true godliness among us is the greatest and most urgent of all our needs.” Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 121. Conclusion One truth stands above all others: prayer is not optional for the Christian; it is essential. The soul that ceases to pray soon loses spiritual strength, discernment, and peace. But the believer who daily communes with Christ becomes spiritually fortified against temptation and increasingly transformed into His likeness. In these perilous times, God is seeking prayer warriors whose hearts are wholly surrendered to Him. The invitation of heaven still stands open to every weary soul: “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3). Honor and Love By Bobby Davis May 20th, 2026 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12 I remember the first time I heard that the Ten Commandments could be summed up in just two. That was surprising to me, because at an early age, I knew there were ten. However, the preacher went on to read Matthew 22:37 where Jesus said, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” I grew to understand that the first four commandments dealt with our relationship to God, and the last six dealt with our fellow human beings. But later, someone pointed out that the fifth commandment had a promise attached, and when I looked it up, sure enough, it did: “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you” (emphasis supplied). Wow, I didn’t know that, I thought. I never forgot that promise, even during the years I wandered in my own “wilderness,” complaining about how life treated me, and how God had seemingly abandoned me. A life lived on self-will can hardly lead anywhere good, and mine certainly didn’t. But despite my efforts at self-destruction, something (or Somebody) kept me alive. Good parents never give up on their children, and neither does God. He pursued me relentlessly, day and night; and as things got worse, I felt the pull to come back to Him. But what I didn’t know was that my parents were praying for me day and night, as well—and that God heard their pleas. The farther I ran from Him, the harder the Holy Spirit worked on my heart. Finally, when my choices brought life down on my head with a force I couldn’t resist, He pulled me back to Him; and with all the fight beaten out of me, I gave in and finally accepted His inescapable love. Would all this have happened if not for the prayers of my godly parents? I don’t know. There are many who don’t have praying parents, but I’m inclined to believe that He impresses others to stand in the gap, offering intercessory prayers for people they sometimes don’t even know. All I can say is that those prayers did make a difference in my life—all the difference in the world. Not only did my parents give me life, but they also played a big part in saving it, too. In the end, my relationship with my parents had deteriorated to the point that I hardly spoke with them. I was too ashamed, too busy, too wrapped up in my own problems. But just like the father of the Prodigal Son, when I approached Mom and Dad, they held their arms wide open. Out of gratitude, and a new-found love and appreciation, I spent more and more time with them. I learned things about them I’d never known before; but, more importantly, I developed a deep love and respect for them. Over time, we’ve become very close and our relationship changed. Gradually, the man and woman who had shared their time, resources, wisdom, and love with me began to depend on me for help. At first it was help with their devices, since technology was changing so quickly. Then it was ordering things online, and helping them with everything from their phones to their finances. Today, I help them by coming to visit often—especially when my sister and brother-in-law need to travel. And because they’re only seven hours away, I get to see them quite often. It’s a joy to be there for the ones who have done so much for me. I love to talk to them, and just wish I could bottle up all their wisdom for when they aren’t with me anymore. So I call them—every single day—usually through a video call. They share their joys, their fears, and their prayer requests with me. And they always tell me how much they appreciate me—the same feeling I have for them. I send them cards “just because.” And I usually buy Mom flowers every day when I’m there visiting. The house fills up with flowers, and sometimes she cries because she’s so happy. But she’s worth it. I’m not sure if I’m going to live to an old age, as the fifth commandment promises; but I trust the Lord to keep me alive as long as He can and will. Honoring my father and mother makes me supremely happy, and I thank God every day for the parents He blessed me with. I often tell Dad that when I grow up, I want to be just like him—and it makes him tear up, every time! What a blessing it is to live by God’s commandments. And every day I wake up, I’m delighted to realize that the fifth commandment promise is coming true!
