    Recognizing God’s Work Beyond Ourselves

Mark chapter 9 describes a moment when the disciple John told Jesus that they had seen someone casting out demons in His name, but they tried to stop him because he was not part of their group. The disciples believed that only those within their circle should be doing such work.

Jesus responded by correcting their perspective. He explained that the man should not be stopped because anyone performing a miracle in His name would not soon speak evil of Him. Then He stated the principle found in this verse that the one who is not against them is on their side.

This teaching reveals an important truth about the work of God. The kingdom of God is larger than any single group or circle of people. When others are genuinely serving Christ and honoring His name, they are participating in the same mission.

Jesus was teaching His disciples to recognize and appreciate the broader work of God. Instead of becoming competitive or exclusive, believers are called to celebrate when God works through others to bring healing, truth, and restoration.

For believers today this verse encourages unity in the mission of Christ. While there may be differences in style, background, or ministry approach, the central focus remains the same which is honoring Jesus and advancing His kingdom.

When believers work together with humility and mutual respect, the message of Christ spreads more effectively and the body of Christ is strengthened.

    Reflection Questions

    1. Do I recognize and appreciate the work God is doing through others

    2. Am I willing to celebrate when God uses different people or ministries

    3. How can I contribute to unity within the body of Christ

    Prayer

Lord Jesus thank You for the many ways You work through Your people. Help me to maintain a humble heart that celebrates the work You are doing through others. Guide me to support and encourage those who are faithfully serving You. In Jesus name Amen.

    Practical Application

    ● Encourage someone who is serving God faithfully

    ● Focus on the shared mission of Christ rather than differences

    ● Pray for other believers and ministries that are spreading the gospel

    Takeaway Thought

God’s kingdom advances when His people recognize and support the work He is doing through others.
