The Bible’s Big Story The Bible is one unified book telling the story of God’s glory through creation, humanity’s rebellion, God’s covenant promises, and their complete fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Everything moves toward Christ’s preeminence. The Old Testament prepares the way; the New Testament reveals Him as the fulfillment. Together they form 66 inspired books—39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New. The Old Testament (39 Books): God’s Promises and Preparation The Old Testament shows God creating the world, choosing a people, giving them His law, and promising a coming King who would fix what sin broke. It repeatedly points forward to the Messiah. Law (Pentateuch – 5 books): Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. These lay the foundation. Genesis shows creation, the fall, and God’s first promises. Exodus–Deuteronomy record God’s rescue of Israel from Egypt, the giving of the Torah at Sinai, and the covenant instructions for a holy people. Historical Books (12 books): Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1–2 Samuel, 1–2 Kings, 1–2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther. They trace Israel’s life in the Promised Land, their cycles of obedience and rebellion, the rise and fall of the monarchy, exile in Babylon, and return. They demonstrate that human kings fail, but God remains faithful to His promises. Wisdom and Poetry (5 books): Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon. These teach how to live wisely under God’s rule. They explore suffering, worship, daily righteousness, the emptiness of life without God, and the beauty of covenant love. Prophets (17 books): Major Prophets (5): Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel. Minor Prophets (12): Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi. The prophets confront idolatry, call for repentance, warn of judgment, and repeatedly promise a coming Deliverer, a new covenant, and a kingdom that will never end. The entire Old Testament builds expectation: a seed of the woman, a descendant of Abraham, a prophet like Moses, a son of David, a suffering servant, and a King who will reign forever. The New Testament (27 Books): Christ’s Arrival and the New Creation The New Testament announces that Jesus is the promised King. He is the preeminent One in whom all God’s promises find their “Yes” (2 Corinthians 1:20). It shows His life, death, resurrection, the birth of the church, and the final renewal of all things. Gospels (4 books): Matthew, Mark, Luke, John. These present Jesus from four angles: as King (Matthew), servant (Mark), perfect man (Luke), and eternal God (John). They record His teaching, miracles, crucifixion for sins, and resurrection. History (1 book): Acts. Luke’s second volume shows the Holy Spirit empowering the early church to take the gospel from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. It records the rapid spread of the message that Jesus is Lord. Letters (21 books): Paul’s Letters (13): Romans, 1–2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1–2 Thessalonians, 1–2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon. These explain the gospel, the meaning of Christ’s work, how the church should live, and how believers stand secure in Him. General Letters (8): Hebrews, James, 1–2 Peter, 1–3 John, Jude. These encourage perseverance, warn against false teaching, and call for holy living. Prophecy (1 book): Revelation. This apocalyptic letter reveals Christ as the victorious Lamb and coming King. It comforts suffering believers and shows the final defeat of evil and the making of a new heaven and new earth. How the Two Testaments Fit Together The Old Testament is not obsolete. Jesus said He came to fulfill it, not abolish it (Matthew 5:17). The New Testament constantly quotes and explains the Old, showing that Christ is the true temple, the better Moses, the perfect high priest, the faithful Israel, and the eternal King. Everything in the Bible centers on the supremacy and preeminence of Christ that we have been studying in Colossians 1. He is the goal of the Old Testament promises and the living reality of the New Testament gospel. The whole book calls you to trust Him, repent of sin, and live under His rule until He returns. daily devotion for August 15th Hunger For The Word They told Ezra the scribe to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded for Israel. Nehemiah 8:1b It is not surprising that chapter 8 opens with a manifestation of a great hunger for the Word among these people in Jerusalem. Notice that this seems to be a spontaneous gathering. No invitations were sent out. No public notice was given. People were hungry for answers to their problems and for guidelines from the Word of God, and with one accord they gathered in this great square before the Water Gate. They asked Ezra the priest to bring the Law of the Lord and to read it to them. This would undoubtedly be the entire Pentateuch--the first five books of the Bible. This indicates the tremendous desire of these people for truth. They listened, while standing, from daybreak until noon! Certainly this long attention indicates how deeply they were aware of their ignorance about life and how much they needed answers from God. They were simply crying out for the Word. Ezra, the priest, the author of the book of Ezra, appears for the first time in the book of Nehemiah. Thirteen years earlier he had led a return from Persia to rebuild the temple and to teach the Law of God. Apparently he had been occupied in that task all through the time of the rebuilding of the wall. But when the people had finished their work, they were desperate to hear from the Word of God, so they sent for Ezra to lead them. It seems to me that we have come to such a time as this again. The prophet Amos predicted that there would come a famine in the world for the Word of God. People would actually be starving for answers to the problems of life. I find everywhere a deep hunger among non-churched people to hear the Word of God. Wherever it is taught with any degree of understanding, they are immediately attracted to it. When the Word is opened up, people begin to understand themselves. When you know God you begin to understand yourself, because you are made in the image of God. These people in Jerusalem were soon growing in self-knowledge as they began to hunger for the Word of God. The great tragedy of our day is how few churches seem to understand this power of Scripture. Lord, create in me a hunger for Your Word. Forgive me for so often taking it for granted.

A survey conducted at 44 major universities reveals that giving protects your overall health twice as much as an aspirin protects your heart against disease. Dr Stephen Post, who conducted the survey, says, ‘Giving is the most potent force on the planet and will protect your whole life.’ The benefits of compassion to your physical health are so strong that if compassion wasn’t free, pharmaceutical companies would herald the discovery of a stupendous new drug called ‘give back’ instead of ‘Prozac’.’ We give for different reasons: to get an income tax deduction; to make a good impression and have people think well of us; or because we’re put under pressure. You can give without loving, but you can’t love without giving. Your time, talent, and treasure are to be shared with others. When you refuse, you’re neither happy, holy, nor healthy. His perfect will is the preservation of future generations and society through lasting marriages. God will give anyone great help in sustaining a marriage relationship or reconcilling estranged marriage partners. Christ's exception for 'fornication' in our text covers unfaithfulness before the actual marriage is contracted.* *The experiences of couples who went through divorce are not encouraging. A study of divorced couples with preschool children shows that after a year of divorce, 60% of men and 73% of women feel they made a mistake and should have tried harder to make their marriage work. People have no idea how much anguish and stress is caused by divorce. This is a lesson to our godly fathers and mothers. They must ensure their children marry in the Lord. Friendship with ungodly families is like sowing the seeds of corruption in your own family. This unholy union of our sons and daughters with unbelieving spouses has introduced corruption in our families and churches.* *Our role models are not the pop singers, film stars and fashion models who seem to change marriage partners like they change their robes. People may hold whatever views they want on divorce, but God, who is the Judge of the whole world has already spoken His mind in Scriptures. One of the two kidneys could not work well again. The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs that filter harmful materials from the human blood in the form of urine. The child needed a kidney transplant. That is, a medical procedure of replacing a defective kidney through surgery. The two parents had four kidneys, but none of them was willing to give one to their beloved child. Can you see how limited human love is? Yet, Jesus gave His life, not just a kidney for us; He did it joyfully. We were sentenced to eternal death in hell because of our sins. God needed a substitute - one who is willing to die in our place. Paul the Apostle, was overwhelmed by the depth of Christ's love. It was love that caused him to decide to live his remaining days on earth in thankfulness to his Saviour. Jesus offered Himself in our place. This is love indeed! *He bore your pains and shame. He gave Himself for you. What can you give Him in return? You must be thankful for the love of Jesus. Make a vow, a promise to live the whole of your life to please Him. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it. *Timeless Truth:*_"Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent"_ (Proverbs 6:27-29). *INTRODUCTION* Fire can be one of humanity's greatest blessings or one of its greatest dangers. When it is kept in its proper place, it provides warmth, light and strength. But when handled carelessly, it destroys lives, homes and destinies. In the same way, there are spiritual "fires" that God has warned His people not to toy with. Sin may appear attractive, temptation may seem harmless and compromise may look insignificant, but the consequences are often devastating. Scripture repeatedly warns that no one can handle fire carelessly and remains unharmed: *"Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?"* (Proverbs 6:27). *1. Admiration: The Sanctity of Marriage*  a. Marriage is an admirable thing in the life of a man or woman. Nobody, all things being equal, goes into a wedding with sadness, but with joy and celebration. However, whenever man attempts to handle marriage in his own way, the destructive effect cannot be estimated. Marriage is not a matter of "hire and fire" in which you can handle it carelessly and scatter it at the least provocation. Your attitude towards Marriage will determine your eternal destiny. This is the fearful truth. *"Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge"* (Hebrews 13:4). Marriage institution should be preserved in honour and purity. Anyone who gambles with these two virtues in a marriage relationship will end up being destroyed, eternally. b. *"Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?"*. The Pharisees were said to be tempting Jesus because they knew the answer in the Pentateuch. The main valid exception was when a woman that was betrothed to a man was found to have committed sexual immorality before the actual marriage like the case of Mary and Joseph. This, in the Law, was technically called "fornication". c The answer of Jesus had several implications. *"Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female"*. Godly marriage is between male and female. Same sex marriage is against the will of God. Second, marriage is between two people. Except if you want to add to the Bible to suit your evil action, you cannot see polygamy in this passage just like Jesus, the Bridegroom is not having more than one bride, the Church and just like Adam was not created with another woman apart from Eve. The divine will is clear on this. *"For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh. Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder"*. Every Word of Jesus points to the original design of one man, one wife. Any other thing is an addition to the Word of God (Matthew 5:18,19). It is only those that have another god that will be satisfied and comfortable at rejecting the Word of God. Inability or unwillingness to obey Jesus Christ does not invalidate His words; it only shows that you need to run to Christ for grace and power to do His will. *Question* Do you align with all the Words of Jesus on marriage? *2. Adultery: The Sins of the Married* a. Polygamy and divorce were permitted in the Old Covenant, but never in the New Covenant. Jesus gave the reason. *"He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so"*. The teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ is a reset to the perfect will of God at creation. *"And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery"*. The fact that *"Except for fornication"* is known and peculiar to the Jewish Old Testament culture is clear as that clause is not in all the other parallel synoptic gospel like Mark 10:1-12, Luke 16:18. A man does not commit adultery by putting away his wife, but if he marries another person, then adultery has taken place. What if he does not marry after putting away? There is still danger for the divorcing man. Can he claim to be a practicing Christian, that has the grace of Christ to forgive without sincerely, having any bitterness that will lead to eternal damnation? Matthew 5:32 says that the man cannot escape if the "putting away" causes the woman to go and marry someone else or commit immorality. In that case *"he causes her to commit adultery"* though he might have committed adultery. It is also true for the other side too. What is the lot of someone who makes others sin? See Matthew 18:6. No heaven for such a person except there is repentance and restitution.The divorced woman is not free for marriage except if she was not a real wife originally. The real wife is the living first wife of the living man. *"Whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery"*. It is all about moral chastity. No married man is allowed by God to see the nakedness of more than one woman or wife as long as the first wife is alive. This puts polygamy out of the equation of divine will. b. Romans 7:2,3 reinforces this commandment. Romans 7:10-11 speaks on separation, without necessarily divorce, which was not fully addressed by Christ. What if they decide to separate without being divorced? It says that must not be among children of God. However, it is possible one of them is an unbeliever who does not take the Word of God binding and serious. Remarriage is ruled out, but reconciliation is the perfect will of God. If one of them is an unbeliever and is not ready to reconcile according to the will of God, but insist on separation? The believing partner is no more answerable to God as to whatever happens to the rebellious partner even if he or she falls into adultery. *"If the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to peace"* (1 Corinthians 7:15). This is not a license to remarry as this will contradict the Words of Christ. Rather it is a license to live separately without being held responsible for the fall or adultery of the unbeliever. So remarriage after separation is still forbidden, but the believer is not counted responsible to God for the irreconcilable attitude of the other partner. *Question* Can a believer obey this Word of Christ without grace? *3. Acceptability: The Separation from Mess* a. It should not be surprising that *"His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry"*. This raises two issues. First, there must be prayer and due diligence in choosing the right partner. The right scriptural foundation is germane to any godly heaven bound marriage. Second, the grace of Christ is needed and always available to do the will of God. The grace needed for marital bliss and resolve issues in marriage will also be needed in making heaven. It is a relational grace needed to endure all things, suffer all things, follow peace with all men, forgive our offenders and love others unconditionally. *Question* Do you have this grace? It can be received by asking. *Prayer Points* 1.Father, we thank You for the institution of marriage and the available grace to do Your will 🙏. 2.Pray against getting into unscriptural marriage. 🙏. 3.Ask for the abundance of grace and fruit of the Spirit to live happily with your partner 🙏. 4.Pray for couples in the church that God will visit their marriages and make it happy and fulfilling. Finishing Well Scripture Deuteronomy 34:10 (NKJV) But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. A Life Marked by Faithfulness Deuteronomy chapter 34 closes the Pentateuch with the death of Moses. Moses never entered the Promised Land, yet Scripture honors him as a faithful servant whom the Lord knew face to face. His life was not defined by what he did not receive, but by his obedience, intimacy with God, and faithfulness to his calling. Moses finished his assignment exactly as God intended. This verse highlights the true measure of a life well lived—not achievements, titles, or outcomes, but relationship with God. Moses walked closely with the Lord, listened to His voice, and faithfully led God’s people for decades. Even though he did not see every promise fulfilled personally, his obedience helped prepare the next generation to walk into God’s future. For believers today, this verse challenges us to think about legacy. Finishing well means staying faithful to God until the end, trusting Him with outcomes, and valuing intimacy with Him above all else. ❤️ARE WE UNDER THE OLD TESTAMENT LAW OF MOSES, SABBATH DAYS, FEAST DAYS, DIETARY LAWS, FESTIVALS AND THE TITHE? In this study we will look at different views concerning keeping Old Testament law. The law of Moses known as Torah, Mosaic Law, and the Pentateuch, primarily refers to the first five books of the Old Testament. These are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Some groups are legalistic in their attitude toward Old Testament Law and the observance of the Jewish Sabbath. There are teachings that imply Christians are still "under the Law," in the sense that the Moral Law and some aspects of the Jewish ceremonial restrictions are still legally binding, in spite of the clear teachings of the Scriptures to the contrary (see: Galatians Chapters 2-3; Romans 6:14; 2 Cor. 3:6-11). Note these especially: Galatians 2:16. knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. Glory of the New Covenant 7 But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, 8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? 9 For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. 10 For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels. 11 For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious. Vegetarianism is encouraged or commanded by many law keepers, and unclean foods (by O.T. standards), including meats, especially pork, are to be avoided, in spite of the clear teaching of: Mark 7:14-19. 14 When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear Me, everyone, and understand: 15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. 16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!” 17 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18 So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?” 1 Timothy 4:1-5. 1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4. ((For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;)) 5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If the precepts of the Law are to be kept one wonders why these same people fail to obey such commandments as the one concerning circumcision, for example; or, for that matter, why they insist upon observing the Sabbath commandment, but ignore the Sabbath restrictions which were inseparable from the Fourth Commandment (e.g., it was to be kept from sunset to sunset, Lev. 23:32; no burden was to be carried, Jer. 17:21; no fire could be kindled, Exod. 35:3, or cooking done, Exod. 16: 23). Violations were punishable by death! Some groups thus insist that the seventh day or Sabbath (Saturday) is to be observed, and that the churches are merely following the later tradition of the Roman Catholics in observing the first day of the week (Sunday). They believe that Sunday observers will be those who take "the mark of the beast." Some Jewish Christians in the early days continued to respect the Sabbath, as well as the first day of the week, but the Gentile Church never did. Moreover, the New Testament itself gives evidence that during the first century the first day of the week (Sunday) replaced the Jewish Sabbath among Christian Jews in commemoration of Christ's resurrection, and was designated as "the Lord's Day" or "the first day of the week.". John 20:1 Now the (first day of the week) Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. Acts 20:7 Now on (the first day of the week), when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. Revelation 1:10. I was in the Spirit on (the Lord’s Day), and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, 1 Corinthians 16:2. On (the first day of the week) let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. As the Sabbath meant something distinctive to Israel, so also the first day of the week has always had special significance to Christians. Furthermore, all the early Church Fathers spoke of the commemoration of the Lord's Day (Sunday) by the churches long before the Roman Catholics sanctioned Sunday observance in the 4th century A.D. Rome merely sanctioned for its members what the churches had been already observing for centuries. Moreover, the Sabbath Commandment, which was a covenant made only to Israel (as a sign between God and Israel, Exod. 31:12-17), was abolished with the rest of the Law at Calvary. This fact is clearly taught in such passages as Colossians 2:13-17; Romans Chapters 2-8; Acts 15; and Galatians Chapters 2-3 we gave above previously. Colossians 2:13-17. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Acts 15:10. Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the (disciples) which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? Acts 15:24. Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, “You must be circumcised and keep the law”—to whom we gave no such commandment— The so-called "moral law" which contains the Fourth or Sabbath Commandment was an inseparable part of the one Law given to Israel which was annulled by the Cross. Some contend that the "moral law" is still binding on Christians, although most civil and ceremonial laws peculiar to Israel are done away with. However, such teaching reveals a lack of understanding of the nature of Old Testament Law. The Law was not divided into three laws as some contend (moral, civil, ceremonial); there was but one Law with 3 aspects: moral, civil and ceremonial. The Scriptures show that if we are bound to keep one part of the Law, then we must keep it all, "for it is written, Cursed is everyone that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them" (Galatians 3:10). The same verse states in no unmistakable terms, "For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse" (cf. vs. 21). Since these people cannot keep the Law (anymore than could Israel before them), then to place oneself under Law in any sense is to be under its condemnation and curse (Galatians Chapters 2-3). This does not imply, however, that the moral "principles" of the Law are invalid, but that the Christian is in no sense "under the law, but under grace" (Rom. 6:14). It is still a sin to steal, lie, kill, or to commit adultery; the abolition of the dispensation of the Law did not abolish God's requirement of righteous conduct on the part of His children (Rom. 3:28-31; 6:1-2). Romans 3:28-31. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law. 29 Or is He the God of the Jews only? Is He not also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also, 30 since there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law. Romans 6:1-2. 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Some groups contend, of course, that salvation is by faith and not by the works of the Law; but this does not alter the fact that they insist that the "moral law" is legally binding upon Christians, that Christians are obligated to keep the Jewish Sabbath commandment, and that they should observe certain Old Testament dietary restrictions contained in the ceremonial laws. The net result is that some people subject themselves to the bondage of the Law although it was abolished at Calvary. Edited. Shared. If we see an Old Testament commandment repeated in the New Testament then we are to obey it. Example Ephesians 6:2 “Honor your father and mother,” is right from the ten commandments. So we are to obey this as New Testament believers. If it is not repeated at least in principle in the New Testament then we do not observe it. Otherwise we are in a situation (as those who say we must keep the law) where we must keep the dietary laws, burn witches, kill homosexuals, and stone rebellious children. James warns in James 2:10 “whosoever shall keep the whole law and disobey in one point is guilty of all.” The law was adequate for the time, it was a teacher to bring us to Christ Paul writes in Galatians 3:24. Now we are not under the law, we obey the New Testament and through our faith and obedience to Jesus we fulfill the righteousness of the law Romans 8:4. Ephesians 2:15. having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, Hebrews 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law. We obey Jesus in the New Testament now. The law of Moses in the Old Testament was nailed to the cross and taken out of the way. There is a good reason why the Old Testament is called the Old Testament and the New Testament is called the New Testament. Hebrews 8:13 In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. Luke 16:16. “The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it. John 1:17. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. We are dead to the law, delivered from it, and now married to Jesus now. We obey Jesus in the New Testament. Romans 7:4. Therefore, my brethren, you also (have become dead to the law) through the body of Christ, that you may (be married to another—to Him)((JESUS)) who was raised from the dead, that we should (bear fruit to God). The law was given to (only Israel) NOT gentiles we were never under the law to begin with. Why put the yoke of bondage on us? Anyone saying a Christian has to obey and keep as a means of salvation the Old Testament law of Moses/Torah, its sabbath days, feast days, festivals, dietary laws, tithes, is in bondage. They have fallen from grace and are under the curse of the law. This means you are not a Christian and have no salvation unless you repent and believe the truth. Galatians 5:4. You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. There is no way to follow the Old Testament Law of Moses along with the New Testament; you can not have it both ways. Jesus nailed the Old Testament Law of Moses to the cross Colossians 2:14. For example, The Old testament Law of Moses said in Exodus 21:23-25. 23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, 24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. Notice now what Jesus now says concerning Old Testament law: Matthew 5:38-42. 38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away. Luke 6:27-29. 27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. Romans 12:19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Jesus taught non resistance, returning good for evil, loving your enemies, a new life from the heart striving to be perfect (mature) as your Heavenly Father. Matthew 5:48. Moreover, we are in the New Testament of grace and NOT the Old Testament Law of Moses of Tithing. Please read 2 Corinthians Chapters 8-10. Giving not tithing is taught. Let him that is taught in the word communicate (share material things) unto him that teacheth in all good things. (Again no 10% demanded as in the Old Testament law of Moses) Romans 15:26-27. 26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution (GIVING) for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. 27 It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things. It is your duty to administer worldly things (example giving money gifts) to the people giving you spiritual things (preaching the word of God to you) feeding you truth. Again no 10% tithe demanded. "Live by the gospel" 1 Corinthians 9:9-14. 9 For it is written in the law of Moses, thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? 10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. 11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things (preaching the word of God to you), is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? (this means giving a money gift to the church pastor) 12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. 13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel. The minister or pastor feeding you the word of God is ordained to live off the contributions to the church. 2 Corinthians 9:7. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him (GIVE); (not grudgingly), or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. We give as every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give. NOT TITHE! IF tithing is a New Testament command why is it not commanded? Answer - it is not taught or commanded in the New Testament but giving as you are able is! These Scriptures absolutely teach that Tithing is NOT commanded in the New Testament. Because of ignorance and a lack of faith most ministers are demanding 10% putting the flock of God under the bondage of the Old testament law of Moses instead of teaching principles of giving under grace. Stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made you free and do not be entangled with the yoke of bondage (law). Galatians 5:1. Philippians 4:15. Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning GIVING and receiving, but ye only. When you give, give to truth not to error. We are not to support those who teach wrong doctrine or are putting the church in bondage to the law. However God has ordained the true minister of God to be supported by love gifts and money cheerfully given by the church that he oversees. God has ordained this way to meet the needs of the true man of God who pastors a church and all the responsibilities he has in the care of the flock plus his own financial obligations. From what you just read you see that you cannot obey the Old Testament law of Moses and obey what Jesus now says in the New Testament. We are under the (New Testament) that's why it's called (New covenant). And now we see what God was trying to accomplish and fulfill in the New Testament. The prophecies in the Old Testament still will be fulfilled in their time. We follow Jesus' commandments now and what is in the New Testament. The righteousness of law is fulfilled in us as we walk in the Spirit. This means obeying Jesus' commandments and the teachings in all the New Testament. We love to read the Old Testament to learn what happened to the saints of old and the remaining prophecies will still be fulfilled. The spiritual principles of the law are eternal (Psalm 111:7-8) but the dispensation of the law was nailed to the cross see Colossians 2:14. Christians are not under the Old Testament law of Moses, today we are under the New Testament to obey it. John 1:17. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Romans 8:4. that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit(Obeying Jesus’ New Testament Commandments). Romans 15:4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Romans 8:1-4. 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh(living like you did before you were a Christian), but after the Spirit (obey the New testament). Now you know what God expects of us and what to say if someone tells you to keep Old Testament law practices. We are under grace not in bondage to the law. 1 Timothy 1:9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers. Finally, we find in John 14:15 Jesus said “If you love Me, keep (obey) My(Jesus’) commandments. *Finishing Well* *Scripture* Deuteronomy 34:10 (NKJV) But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. *A Life Marked by Faithfulness* Deuteronomy chapter 34 closes the Pentateuch with the death of Moses. Moses never entered the Promised Land, yet Scripture honors him as a faithful servant whom the Lord knew face to face. His life was not defined by what he did not receive, but by his obedience, intimacy with God, and faithfulness to his calling. Moses finished his assignment exactly as God intended. This verse highlights the true measure of a life well lived—not achievements, titles, or outcomes, but relationship with God. Moses walked closely with the Lord, listened to His voice, and faithfully led God’s people for decades. Even though he did not see every promise fulfilled personally, his obedience helped prepare the next generation to walk into God’s future. For believers today, this verse challenges us to think about legacy. Finishing well means staying faithful to God until the end, trusting Him with outcomes, and valuing intimacy with Him above all else. Overview of the Book of Genesis (WITH CHAPTERS 1.2.3 & 4) Beginning — Foundations — God’s Covenant Faithfulness 1) Context: Who wrote Genesis and why? Genesis is the first book of the Bible and the opening section of the Pentateuch (Genesis–Deuteronomy). Traditionally, it is attributed to Moses and most likely written during Israel’s wilderness journey. Genesis answers the foundational questions of life: -Where did everything come from? -Who is God? -What went wrong with the world? -How does God plan to redeem humanity? -Genesis is not just history. It is theological history showing the character, purpose, and faithfulness of God. 2) Big Theme: God creates, humanity falls, God redeems Genesis can be divided into two major sections. A. PRIMEVAL HISTORY (Ch. 1–11) Foundations of the world Creation (1–2) -God creates everything with order, purpose, and design. The Fall (3) -Sin enters the world through human rebellion. Cain & Abel (4) -Sin spreads from the heart outward. The Flood (6–9) -God judges wickedness but preserves Noah by grace. Tower of Babel (11) -Human pride leads to scattering. God shows: He is holy, He judges sin, yet He always preserves a remnant by grace. B. PATRIARCHAL HISTORY (Ch. 12–50) God forms a covenant people. Abraham (12–25) -God calls one man and promises land, descendants, and blessing. Isaac (25–27) -God continues the promise through the chosen line. Jacob (28–36) -God wrestles with and transforms a stubborn man. Joseph (37–50) -God sovereignly works through suffering to save many. Humanity is made in God’s image. Marriage is God-designed. Sin corrupts every part of life. God judges sin yet moves with grace. Salvation comes through God’s promise, not human effort. God keeps His covenants. Everything that follows in Scripture grows out of these truths. 4) Christ Foreshadowed in Genesis Genesis quietly points forward to Jesus. The promised seed (Genesis 3:15) Noah’s ark — salvation through one door Abraham’s promised Son Joseph — rejected, then exalted to save others Melchizedek — priest and king Sacrifice of Isaac — substitutionary sacrifice provided Genesis shows us that redemption was God’s plan from the beginning. 5) How to Study Genesis (Freedom Chapel Fellowship style) Read: Book by book Chapter by chapter Verse by verse Ask three questions: Context — What was happening historically? Interpretation — What did God intend this to mean? Application — How does this shape my walk with Christ? Avoid speculation. Stay anchored in what the text actually says. 6) Application: Why Genesis matters today Genesis shapes how believers see everything: Your identity comes from God, not culture. Sin is real and destructive — it began in the garden. God works through imperfect people. God’s promises do not fail. God is forming a people for Himself. Genesis calls us to trust, obey, and walk by faith like Abraham — even when we do not see the full picture yet. Genesis 1 God Creates with Order, Purpose, and Authority Genesis opens with God, not with man. The story does not begin with chance, chaos, or evolution. It begins with a sovereign, personal God who speaks creation into existence. Light, sky, land, seas, vegetation, sun, moon, stars, animals, and finally mankind — everything is intentional, structured, and good. We see the repeated pattern: God said… God saw… God called… God blessed. Creation is not random. It is governed by the will and word of God. Humanity is unique because we are made in His image. That means we reflect His character, have moral responsibility, and are called to steward creation. This chapter establishes core biblical truths. God is eternal. God is Creator. God is separate from creation yet active in it. Human life is sacred because it comes from God. Rest is also part of God’s design as He finishes His work and sets apart the seventh day. For us, Genesis 1 corrects our worldview. Life is not accidental. Identity is not self-invented. Meaning is not created by culture. God defines everything. We are called to submit to His order, worship Him as Creator, and find peace knowing the universe is not out of control. God spoke — and it was so. The same God still speaks today through His Word, and He is worthy of our trust. Genesis 2 God Forms Humanity and Establishes Marriage Genesis 2 zooms in on the creation of man and woman. Instead of a distant cosmic view, we see God personally forming Adam from the dust and breathing life into him. Scripture presents God as intimate, relational, and involved. God places Adam in the garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it. Work is not a curse. Work existed before sin. It is part of God’s good design. God also gives Adam His Word and boundaries. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil is a reminder that God alone defines right and wrong. Then God says something surprising — it is not good that man should be alone. God creates Eve, not as an accessory or rival, but as a companion suited to him. Marriage is God’s idea: one man, one woman, joined together in covenant. They are naked and unashamed, enjoying perfect fellowship with God and one another. Genesis 2 reminds us that real fulfillment is not found in independence but in relationship with God and the people He gives. God is the author of life, identity, calling, work, and marriage. We flourish when we live inside His design rather than trying to rewrite it ourselves. Genesis 3 The Fall and the Promise of Redemption Genesis 3 explains what went wrong with the world. The serpent questions God’s Word, distorts God’s character, and tempts Eve to believe that life would be better apart from God’s authority. Adam joins her willingly. Sin does not begin with action — it begins with unbelief and rebellion in the heart. Immediately shame, fear, and separation enter the picture. Instead of walking openly with God, Adam and Eve hide. Instead of taking responsibility, they blame each other. The consequences are real: pain, broken relationships, cursed ground, and physical death. Yet even in judgment, God shows grace. He seeks them. He calls to them. He covers their nakedness. And He gives the first promise of salvation — that one day a descendant would crush the serpent’s head. The storyline of redemption begins right here. Genesis 3 teaches us that sin is not trivial. It fractures everything. But it also teaches us that God is not finished with us. We cannot fix ourselves with religious effort, shame, or good works. We need a Savior. The gospel story begins in the garden: God pursues sinners and makes a way back to Himself. Genesis 4 Worship, Sin, and the Spread of Violence Genesis 4 shows the ripple effect of sin beyond Adam and Eve. Cain and Abel both bring offerings to the Lord, but only Abel’s is accepted. The issue is not the material alone — it is the heart. God warns Cain that sin is crouching at the door and desires to rule him, but Cain refuses correction. In anger and jealousy, Cain murders his brother. This is the first act of human violence recorded — worship gone wrong turns into hatred and bloodshed. When God confronts him, Cain again refuses responsibility. The ground that once produced blessing now testifies against human rebellion. Cain’s descendants go on to build cities, develop culture, create tools, and compose music — but sin continues to dominate the human heart. By contrast, Adam and Eve later have another son, Seth, and during his lifetime people begin once again to call upon the name of the Lord. Genesis 4 reminds us that outward advancement does not equal spiritual transformation. Civilization can grow while the heart decays. God still calls us to humble worship, obedience, repentance, and dependence upon Him. Sin grows when ignored — but faith grows when we seek the Lord.
