We live in a world filled with Bible verses on social media, coffee mugs, T-shirts, signs, and inspirational graphics. But knowing a verse is not always the same as understanding what that verse actually means.

Context matters.
The Bible was written in books, letters, histories, poetry, prophecy, and Gospel accounts—not as a collection of random quotations.
Before asking, “What does this verse mean to me?” we should first ask:
What does the passage actually say? Who was the original audience? What was the author communicating? What comes before and after the verse? How does this passage fit into the larger story of Scripture? How should this truth change the way I live?
Paul told Timothy to work hard so that he could correctly explain the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15, NLT).
Bible study should move us beyond simply reading Scripture toward truly understanding and applying it.
READ. OBSERVE. UNDERSTAND. APPLY.
When we learn to read Scripture in context, we begin to see more clearly the character of God, the seriousness of sin, the beauty of grace, the glory of Jesus Christ, and the power of the Gospel.
