  • The Faith of our Fathers

What Does it Mean to Have the "Faith of Our Fathers"?

When we open Hebrews 11 often called God’s "Hall of Faith" we aren't just reading ancient history. We are looking at a masterclass on how to walk with God in a hostile world.

Looking closely at Hebrews 11:23–28, we see the faith of Moses and his parents. Their lives reveal 3 core characteristics of real faith and an actionable model we can live by today: S.E.E.F.

Let’s dive deep into what God’s Word teaches us!

Characteristics of the Faith of Our Fathers

    1. A Faith That Protects (v. 23)
"By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents..."
True faith doesn't throw up its hands in fear when society or government laws contradict God. Moses’ parents (Amram and Jochebed) faced a decree from Pharaoh to kill all male babies. Yet, their faith drove them to protect what God had entrusted to them.

Application: Faith acts as a shield over our families, our calling, and our spiritual lives against the enemy’s attacks.

    2. A Perceiving Faith (v. 23)
"...because they saw he was a beautiful [proper/special] child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command."
Physical eyes only see problems; eyes of faith perceive God’s divine purpose. Moses’ parents didn't just see a newborn baby—they perceived by faith that God had a specific destiny for his life. This perception cast out their fear of Pharaoh.

Application: Faith gives you spiritual vision to see God's plan hidden inside difficult circumstances.

    3. A Faith That Perseveres (v. 24)
"By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter..."
Notice that Moses' faith matured as he grew up. He didn't just rely on his parents' religion; he developed a personal, enduring faith that stood the test of time and temptation.

Application: Real faith lasts. It carries you through childhood into adulthood, through changing seasons, and through life's trials.

The Faith of Moses — The "S.E.E.F." Model

Moses' life gives us a 4-step blueprint for walking in victorious faith:

    S — Self-denying Faith (v. 24–25)
Moses gave up royal status, boundless wealth, and the top position in Egypt. Why? Because faith chooses to suffer with God’s people rather than enjoy the short-lived pleasures of sin.

True faith knows when to say "NO" to the world so it can say "YES" to God.

    E — Expectant Faith (v. 26)

"...esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward."

    • Moses wasn't focused on what he was losing in Egypt; he was focused on what God promised in eternity. Expectant faith keeps its eyes on God's ultimate reward, making present sacrifices feel small.

Faith measures value by eternity, not by worldly success.

    E — Enduring Faith (v.27)

"By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible."

Moses faced the rage of the most powerful ruler on Earth, yet he stood firm. How? Because he saw the invisible God as more real than the visible king.

When you can "see" the Invisible God, you can endure any visible trial.

    F — Faith in God’s Message of Salvation (v. 28–29)

Moses kept the Passover and applied the blood of the lamb so that the destroyer would not touch Israel. He led the people through the Red Sea by trusting God's word.

Ultimate faith always anchors itself in God’s plan of salvation through the Blood of the Lamb!

    PERSONAL REFLECTION:
Faith isn't passive, it protects, perceives, perseveres, denies self, expects God's best, endures hardship, and rests in Salvation.

Which of these area(s) is God challenging you to grow in this week?

  • My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

    Psalm 73:26 ɴᴋᴊᴠ

How wonderful to live in the good of such a declaration that the Lord is our portion. This means that regardless of the circumstances our satisfaction is Him. This was expressed in a very practical way by a number of people in the Bible.

Abram, after his victory over the kings, took none of the booty so that only God would receive the honor; he was told by God, “I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

David, when he went out against Goliath, went out not in his own strength but in the reality that the Lord was his portion.

Enoch walked with God and was no more because he pleased God; the Lord was his portion.

When the disciples were asked by the Lord if they too wanted to leave, Peter responded, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” The Lord was their portion.

Mary, when she sat listening to the Lord at His feet, and later when she poured out her alabaster box full of precious ointment on the Lord without a word, declared that the Lord was her portion.

The Levites, instead of receiving land, were told that the Lord was their portion.

Habakkuk, reflecting on the barren conditions in which he found himself, proclaimed that despite the circumstances he would rejoice in the Lord; his joy was in the God of his salvation (Hab. 3:17–18). The Lord was his portion.

The beloved in Song of Songs declared, “my beloved is mine, and I am his”; and also expressed “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine” (Song 2:16; 6:3). But as she enjoyed him more she demonstrated her delight in her portion: “I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me” (7:10). She was no longer thinking of herself but of her beloved, giving herself totally to him, her portion.

As we delight in our Lord and Savior, our portion, there will be praise, obedience, and surrender.

  • SERMON SEGMENT: "Shed Clear Light of Christ About Football & Its Fans"
    Key Texts: Romans 12:2, 1 Corinthians 9:24-25, Colossians 3:23, 1 Peter 1:15-16, Galatians 5:16-17, Hebrews 12:1-2

    ---

    INTRO
Church, the Lord is speaking to us in this last age. Hebrews 1:2
We must be careful what we pattern our lives after. Because our sanctification is delicate. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 — “For this is the will of God, your sanctification.”

Tonight let’s talk about football and its fans — not to condemn people, but to shed the clear light of Christ on it.
Ephesians 5:13 — “But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible.”

    1. THE WARNING: DON'T BE PATTERNED BY THE WORLD
Romans 12:2 — “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Football itself is just a game. But the spirit around football and its fan culture often carries:
Pride - Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goes before destruction”
Injustice - cheating, bribes, violence, curses on other teams
Flesh desires - gambling, drunkenness, lust, idolatry of players, spending hours that should be for God

1 John 2:15-16 — “Do not love the world or the things in the world... For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father.”

    Warning to Christians and non-Christians:
If our mind, thoughts, and actions are shaped more by football rivalry than by the Spirit, we are being conformed, not transformed.
And “no one should think eternal life inheritance in an unclean life.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 — “neither the sexually immoral... nor thieves... will inherit the kingdom of God.”
Galatians 5:21 — “those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Our sanctification needs the shield of the Spirit and guidance, or it gets corrupted and compromised. Ephesians 6:16

    2. THE BALANCE: DISCIPLINE FROM THE BIBLE, NOT FROM THE WORLD
Some will say: “But Paul used sports!” Yes.

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 — “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.”

Paul is not telling us to go play football. He’s using the discipline of athletes to teach us spiritual discipline:
Focus. Training. Self-control. Running to win an imperishable crown.
Hebrews 12:1 — “let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus.”

The world trains the body for 90 minutes. We must train the spirit for eternity.

Colossians 3:23 — “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
If you play football, play unto the Lord. With integrity. Without pride. Without cursing. Without idolatry.
If you are a fan, fan unto the Lord. With a renewed mind.

    3. THE TEST: DOES IT HELP OR HINDER YOUR SALVATION?
We are to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” — Philippians 2:12
Not earn it. But keep it clean, not corrupted.

Ask yourself 3 questions before the game and after the game:
Does this make Jesus increase in me, or decrease? John 3:30
Does this renew my mind, or fill it with pride, hate, and flesh? Romans 12:2
Can I do this and still be pure and blameless before God? 1 Peter 1:15-16

If football causes you to miss prayer, to gossip, to gamble, to hate, to be drunk — then it has become an idol. 1 Corinthians 10:14 — “Flee from idolatry.”

    4. APPLICATION: HOW TO ENGAGE WITH A RENEWED MIND
Awaken - See the spirit behind the culture. Don’t be blind. Proverbs 29:18
Renew - Let the Spirit transform your thoughts about competition, winning, and identity. Romans 12:2
Obey - If the Spirit says “turn it off, come pray,” obey. John 14:23
Purify - Guard your eyes, your mouth, your time. Psalm 119:9

    CLOSING WORD
Brothers and sisters, football is not the enemy. The flesh is.

Psalm 119:9

    DATE: WEDNESDAY 19TH AUGUST 2026

    TOPIC: GOD'S COVENANT OF PROTECTION

    MEMORIZE:
"For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her." Zechariah 2:5 (KJV)

    BIBLE READING: PSALM 91:1-16
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

    5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

    9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

    MESSAGE:
The devil lures many people into evil covenants with the promise of protection; however, complete protection only exists in God. Romans 8:31 says, "... If God be for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:37 further says that we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us. This means that, if you are in a covenant with God, you will not have to fight any battle, because He will always fight for you. Many times, you would have won the battle before you even realise that someone was trying to attack you.

I ran away from my village after some people threatened that they were going to 'eat me for breakfast,' and for 13 years, I could not return. However, after I met the Lord Jesus Christ, I was able to visit my village, and I even attended a wedding where I saw many of the people who had threatened to kill me through diabolical means. I was much younger in the faith at the time, so I had a lot of zeal but not much wisdom. I was asked to preach at the wedding, and I delivered a powerful sermon that hit them hard with the word of God. Some months later, those people went to the mother of the lady who got married and told her that it was her daughter's wedding that provided a platform for me to insult them. They further said that they had been waiting for an opportunity for revenge, and the opportunity had presented itself now that her daughter was pregnant. They told her, "We will see if your daughter will give birth, unless we are not the ones in charge here on earth." The lady's mother became frightened and came to me. I told her not to worry and assured her that on the day her daughter would give birth, all those who had threatened her would fall asleep. To the glory of God, things turned out exactly as I said; her daughter gave birth while those who threatened her were sleeping. The baby they swore would not be born is now a medical doctor.

Beloved, God said that He will be a wall of fire around you in today's memory verse, and anyone who chooses to confront the Consuming Fire will not live to tell the story. Never be afraid of any force, person, or situation that threatens to harm you. Cry out to God in such cases, and He will show up to defend you and give you victory.

    KEY POINT:
God is a wall of fire around those who are in a covenant with Him.

  • *SEED FOR LIFE*
The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
    • 2 Thessalonians 2:9,10

Those who are unwilling to accept the plain, cutting truths of the Bible are continually seeking for pleasing fables that will quiet the conscience... Too wise in their own conceit to search the Scriptures with contrition of soul and earnest prayer for divine guidance, they have no shield from delusion. Satan is ready to supply the heart’s desire, and he palms off his deceptions in the place of truth.... Every conceivable form of error will be accepted by those who willfully reject the truth.
    • Great Controversy, p.523

    *• A Point To Ponder •*
People do not necessarily become deceived because truth is unavailable; they can become deceived because they do not want the truth.

    “WHO GOD IS TO ME”
    MY ROCK
    Psalm 18:2 (LLV) —
“The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I take refuge; my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold.”
    Life
    does not always
    give us
    steady ground.
    Circumstances
    change.
    Plans
    collapse.
    People
    disappoint us.
    Things
    we thought
    were certain
    suddenly
    are not.
    David knew
    that kind
    of life.
    He had known
    victory
    and danger.
    Friendship
    and betrayal.
    Celebration
    and fear.
    There were times
    when he literally
    hid among
    the rocks
    to escape
    those who wanted
    to destroy him.
    Perhaps that
    is why
    his words
    carry
    such confidence.
    “The LORD
    is my rock.”
    Not:
    The LORD
    might become
    my rock
    if trouble comes.
    Not:
    The LORD
    was my rock
    when things
    were difficult.
    The LORD
    is
    my rock.
    Right now.
    David's security
    was not found
    in the stability
    of his circumstances.
    It was found
    in the unchanging
    character
    of his God.
    Then David
    keeps going.
    “My fortress.”
    When danger
    surrounds me,
    God is
    my security.
    “My deliverer.”
    When there seems
    to be
    no way out,
    God is
    my rescuer.
    “My shield.”
    When the battle
    comes close,
    God stands
    between me
    and what
    would destroy me.
    “My stronghold.”
    When everything
    around me
    feels uncertain,
    there remains
    somewhere
    I can stand.
    Notice something
    beautiful
    in David's words.
    Again
    and again
    he says:
    “My.”
    My rock.
    My fortress.
    My deliverer.
    My God.
    My strength.
    My shield.
    My salvation.
    My stronghold.
    David was not
    describing
    a God
    he had merely
    heard about.
    He was describing
    the God
    he had learned
    to trust.
    There is
    a difference
    between knowing
    that God
    is a rock
    and being able
    to say,
    “He is
    my rock.”
    That kind
    of confidence
    is formed
    through walking
    with Him.
    Through storms.
    Through uncertainty.
    Through prayers
    answered
    in unexpected ways.
    Through discovering,
    again
    and again,
    that when everything
    else moves,
    God does not.
    The storm
    may still come.
    The ground
    around us
    may still shake.
    But our confidence
    does not rest
    upon the absence
    of trouble.
    It rests
    upon the presence
    of Someone
    who cannot
    be moved.
A new beginning finds somewhere solid to stand:
when everything around me changes, the Lord remains my rock.
Reflection: What feels uncertain in my life today, and am I trying to find security in changing circumstances or in the unchanging character of God?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being my rock when everything around me feels uncertain. You are my fortress, my deliverer, my strength, and my refuge. Teach me not merely to know these things about You, but to trust them personally. When circumstances shift beneath my feet, remind me that You have not moved. Help me stand securely in You today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
August 18 🌿 “WHO GOD IS TO ME” MY ROCK 📖 Psalm 18:2 (LLV) — “The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I take refuge; my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold.” Life does not always give us steady ground. Circumstances change. Plans collapse. People disappoint us. Things we thought were certain suddenly are not. David knew that kind of life. He had known victory and danger. Friendship and betrayal. Celebration and fear. There were times when he literally hid among the rocks to escape those who wanted to destroy him. Perhaps that is why his words carry such confidence. “The LORD is my rock.” Not: The LORD might become my rock if trouble comes. Not: The LORD was my rock when things were difficult. The LORD is my rock. Right now. David's security was not found in the stability of his circumstances. It was found in the unchanging character of his God. Then David keeps going. “My fortress.” When danger surrounds me, God is my security. “My deliverer.” When there seems to be no way out, God is my rescuer. “My shield.” When the battle comes close, God stands between me and what would destroy me. “My stronghold.” When everything around me feels uncertain, there remains somewhere I can stand. Notice something beautiful in David's words. Again and again he says: “My.” My rock. My fortress. My deliverer. My God. My strength. My shield. My salvation. My stronghold. David was not describing a God he had merely heard about. He was describing the God he had learned to trust. There is a difference between knowing that God is a rock and being able to say, “He is my rock.” That kind of confidence is formed through walking with Him. Through storms. Through uncertainty. Through prayers answered in unexpected ways. Through discovering, again and again, that when everything else moves, God does not. The storm may still come. The ground around us may still shake. But our confidence does not rest upon the absence of trouble. It rests upon the presence of Someone who cannot be moved. A new beginning finds somewhere solid to stand: when everything around me changes, the Lord remains my rock. Align with Yehusha be with Team Yeshua and will fight your Battle : God Fights for the Remnant of Peace

When you make peace with the true Joshua—Jesus Christ—you enter into a covenant that shifts your battles from your hands into God's hands.

In Joshua 10, the Gibeonites were targets simply because they allied themselves with Israel. Similarly, when you align your life with the Lord, the forces of spiritual darkness may target you.

However, the shadow of Jesus in this text reveals a powerful truth: God assumes your enemies as His own.

He does not leave you to defend yourself. When you call upon Him in times of attack, the Lord responds with swift, supernatural deliverance.

He will disrupt the enemy's plans, cause confusion in their camps, and even move the laws of nature to ensure your complete victory.

Key Bible Verses from Joshua 10

The Call for Help: "The Gibeonites then sent word to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal: 'Do not abandon your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us, because all the Amorite kings from the hill country have joined forces against us.'" (Joshua 10:6)

The Divine Assurance: "The Lord said to Joshua, 'Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.'" (Joshua 10:8).

The Divine Intervention: "The Lord threw them into confusion before Israel, so Joshua and the Israelites defeated them completely... As they fled before Israel... the Lord hurled large hailstones down on them, and more of them died from the hail than were killed by the swords of the Israelites." (Joshua 10:10-11)

Warfare PrayerHeavenly Father, Almighty God, and Precious Holy Spirit,I come before You today under the covenant of peace established through my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (Yeshua).
Because I have surrendered my life to You, I thank You that my battles are no longer mine alone, but they belong to the Lord.

According to Your Word in Joshua 10, when the enemy gathers against me because of my alignment with You, I cry out for Your urgent help.
Do not abandon your servant, Lord! Come quickly to my defense.

I pray that You throw every demonic alliance, every spirit of fear, and every weapon formed against my health, my family, or my destiny into total confusion.

Let Your supernatural power fight on my behalf. Hurl down Your divine judgment against the spiritual forces of wickedness that attempt to steal my peace.

Give me the assurance that not one of my enemies will be able to withstand Your presence.

Let the sun and moon stand still, and let time work in my favor as You fulfill Your promises in my life.
Thank You for complete victory and for being my shield and deliverer. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray.Amen.
