Do You Love God with Passion?

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. Philippians 3:13

For what do you really have passion? Nobody succeeds at anything for which he doesn’t have passion. So, what is it in your life? Whether it is art, painting ceramics, football, basketball, old books, history, or seeking God, without passion you dawdle through life, much as someone who goes through a cafeteria or smorgasbord sampling little bits of many things without getting anything which really satisfies.

I never cease to be amazed at the wide diversity of things for which people have passion, things that are of little interest to me but have consumed a lifetime of interest and a large portion of their resources for others.

Being passionate about someone—whether it is your husband or wife–or growing tropical orchids, is not quite the same thing as having a passion or a strong desire for something. Jesus was challenged once by a man who was sent by the Pharisees to test Him, saying that the greatest commandment in the Bible is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). Eugene Peterson paraphrases His words, saying, “Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence” (The Message).

Question: thinking about your passions, the things that really drive you, how great is your passion for God? The very question may create some concern in your heart in that we often think of individuals who have a passion for God as being somewhat quaint and eccentric. “Yes,” we think, “that’s OK for mystics and recluses who go into monasteries and convents, who shut themselves away from the world. That’s how people with a passion for God should be treated.”

But what of a businessperson who has a passion for knowing God, who also believes that what drives him to know God also energizes him to do what he believes God wants him to do? That passion for God is the outworking of his work ethic that makes him succeed where others fail. He remembers Paul’s admonition, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men” (Colossians 3:23).

And what of the single mother whose husband walked out on her, leaving her with three children to raise without much support? Did passion leave when her husband packed up and walked out? Not necessarily. I have known single women who experienced the resources of God, throwing themselves completely on Him, who—yes—loved God with passion, and experienced His provision in ways they never thought possible.

Loving God with passion means that you have made Him Lord of all your life, not simply an appendage that is tacked on to the multiplicity of tasks and responsibilities you have. It means making Him a priority, not a possibility, taking time to nourish a relationship with Him day in and day out.

Now, having passion for God doesn’t replace or displace passion in your personal life or having passion for what God has called you to do. To the contrary, it means you do a better job of whatever it is you have been called to do.

With Paul, you have laid hold of that for which God laid hold of you, and with passion you live out your life and do His will.

Without passion which drives your life, you never really succeed at anything, but when you make Him a priority and learn He is a good God and love Him, you will discover a passion for God is a flame which cannot be extinguished, a light which will never go out, and a ove that will never be disappointed.

Without passion, life becomes dull and blah.

  • Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.

I am not exactly sure when I became obsessed with cooking shows. My mother tried to teach me to cook when I was younger and I did not have an interest at all. However, within the last five to ten years now, cooking has become a new adventure for me, and cooking shows are more entertaining than ‘normal’ shows. Last night, as I was about to go to bed, it hit me … the challenges that the competitors face, are a mimic of our challenges every day.

One of my favorite shows is Tournament of Champions. This is a competition with the highest quality of chefs. Like all the chefs are ALL STARS competing against each other. They have a champion winners’ bracket like you would in a basketball tournament and it is a one and done … win or go home. Very simple right. HAHA…that is where the fun comes in. To ‘challenge’ these chefs, they implemented instrument called the Randomizer. This is a barrel with five different spinning options…Protein, Produce, Equipment, Style, and a Wild Card. Because they are all professional and well respected in their field, they are expected to make an elegant dish out of random items; with a 30-to-45-minute time limit. I have learned there are a lot of veggies and meats that I did not know existed. Anyway, watching these professional pull an eloquent dish out of random-mandatory ingredients … it’s cool to see.

Last night as I watched the show, I watched unknown but accomplished chefs take out established icon chefs whose names are synonymous with cooking excellence. I believe that is what led me to this analogy for our walk comparison. Most of us would not consider ourselves icons or established and well-regarded Christians. I think we mor look at ourselves as the underdogs with a solid backing.

The world randomly chooses our path for their good, but God specifically chooses us to take those random and unlikely ingredients to cook up something delicious for the world. With distress, turmoil, chaos, lack of common decency and love, and trust, to take all that and compose a dish of forgiveness in times where the world is screaming unforgiveness. In a world where hate is the common construct, show basic decency and unconditional love. The world may give you a French press coffee maker to make a pasta dish so delicious and fulfilling that they come back for more and with God’s guidance, you provide the dish worth serving to kings. Our walk is very much like this show … we are the champions because we have chosen to follow Him. The world is the Randomizer. The trinity is the culinary education that creates a five-star dish.

Today while you are in this worldly kitchen, look at all the random things that have been placed before you. Dip into the heavenly culinary experience that you have. Make today a dish worthy of serving to our King.

    Be blessed.

** “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Here’s Why You Don’t Feel Close to God

Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. Matthew 26:40

You can no more have intimacy with God without prayer than you can have intimacy in your marriage without communication. Though you may have never thought of the two in relationship to each other, what makes both meaningful is much the same. Success in both is dependent upon the quality of your relationship with the object of your affection. When you can’t communicate with your husband or wife—for whatever reason, your relationship rapidly disintegrates. Your love grows cold. Warm memories are just that—recollections of the past, but not realities of the present.

Prayer is communication, and the secret of intimacy in your spiritual life is being able to share your thoughts, your heart, and your feelings without fear of rejection. What are the enemies of intimacy? Well, there are several, and they apply both to your mate and your relationship with God. For the next three minutes, however, I’d like to focus on your relationship with the Lord.

Enemy #1: Busyness. And this is undoubtedly the chief foe that turns our good intentions to well-worn excuses and leaves us feeling pretty guilty. Yes, we know we ought to read the Bible and pray, but we don’t have time. So, what’s the solution? In a single word, priorities. You find time for what you really think is important. In my personal life, I’ve found that the only way to turn intentions into even simple, small forward steps, is to set the clock thirty minutes early and then force myself to get up and moving.

“But won’t that leave me tired out?” No, to the contrary, you’ll have greater energy, be more focused, and accomplish far more than if you slept.

Enemy #2: Attitude. Whose attitude? Yours. It’s quite amazing how your personal relationships with others also affect your relationship with God. Anger, bitterness, harsh feelings, negative emotions: they don’t put you in a happy mood so you can bow your heart and say, “Good morning, Lord. It’s me.” To be honest, you’d have to say, “I’m not very happy right now.” But pouring out your heart and telling Him how you feel, will not only change your attitude but create the environment whereby God will let you know what your response should be.

Enemy #3: Distractions. “I’m burned out!” writes a friend of Guidelines, who explains, “I go to work early and go home late because of overtime work. I’m beat when I reach home and my quiet time often becomes really quiet time because I’m dead asleep.” Drowsiness isn’t the only distraction. If you haven’t discovered this, you will, because it happens to everybody. As soon as you bow your head and you start to pray, the phone rings. Your two kids—the ones who play tirelessly together hour after hour—will start a war. Or—boom! Just like that!—you have instant recall and you think of what you didn’t get done yesterday. You remember the phone call, a pretty important one too, that you didn’t return.

So, is there a solution to distractions? If your mind wanders, pray out loud. If something comes to mind which is important, stop long enough to jot down a memo which serves as a reminder later, but don’t quit.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Christ challenged Peter, saying, “Watch and pray so that you won’t enter into temptation (Matthew 26:41). It’s still true.

Intimacy with God doesn’t come by going to church for an hour on Sunday, or flinging a prayer towards heaven as a basketball player hurls the ball towards the hoop hoping to win the game in the last three seconds of play. It is sustained and kept alive by praying.

    WHAT THE FAITHFUL DO

Intro: The book of Hebrews was written to Jewish converts. These people had been saved from an ancient system of bondage to a law they could not keep. But, the rituals and demands of the law were all they knew.

The book of Hebrews suggests that some of these converts were considering a return to Judaism. They were having a difficult time leaving the rituals and ceremonies of their old live behind. They were clinging to their old religion and to their old methods of worship. Some of had already walked away from their commitment to Jesus, from the church, and they had gone back to their old life. They had returned to Judaism.

The writer of Hebrews has spent the bulk of the book proving that Jesus, and the salvation He provides, is far superior to anything the Jews experienced under the Law. After proving that Jesus Christ and His Gospel are vastly superior to Judaism, the writer closes by challenging the Jewish believers to remain faithful to Jesus and to their faith in Him.

As a part of this message, he mentions two ways that people who hear the Gospel can respond.

    • Verses 19-25 teach us that some receive the Gospel and are saved. These people are given some challenges they must follow to ensure the continued health and blessing of the church.

    • Verses 26-31 speak about those people who reject the Gospel of grace. Those who reject the Gospel face certain condemnation. The context concerns those who have abandoned their faith and gone back to their old way of life. Their abandonment of the truth demonstrates the truth that they were never truly saved to begin with. They are said to have “trodden under foot the Son of God” and “counted...the blood...and unholy thing.”

This passage contains some very important challenges that we need to hear. These challenges are identified by three “let us” commands. Each of these “let us” statements tells us something we should do or avoid doing. I want to consider these “let us” commands because they teach us about What The Faithful Do. These verses give us a glimpse into what genuinely born again people do when they are a part of the local church. God has a word for us in these verses.

    I. v. 19-22 THE FAITHFUL DRAW NEAR

The first challenge is for us to “enter in” and “draw near”. These verses tell us how it is possible to “enter in” to the presence of God, and for us to “draw near” to Him.

    • The writer makes a statement in verse 19 that must have sounded strange to his Jewish readers. He tells them to “enter into the holiest” with “boldness”. He also tells them that there is a “new and living way” into the presence of God.

The old Jewish system was a closed system, as were most religious systems in the ancient world. Under the Jewish system no one could approach God but the High Priest, and he could only do so on the Day of Atonement, and only then with the blood of an innocent sacrifice to atone for his own sins. Man was barred from the presence of Holy God!

When Jesus came and died on the cross, He made a way for all those who receive Him to enter the presence of God. When the “veil” of Christ’s flesh was broken on the cross, the way was opened to God for all who will enter. Ill. The torn veil in the Temple – Matt. 27:50-51.

When Jesus, Who is our High Priest, entered the Holy of Holies with His blood, He left the way open for us to follow, John 10:9. His shed blood is our invitation to enter the presence of God, Heb. 9:22.

    • The word “having” is used three times in these verses. It speaks of a “present possession”. We have some precious possessions because of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

    - v. 19 We Have Boldness To Enter Into Salvation – The way has been opened and we are invited to come, Isa. 1:18; Rev. 22:17. If you haven’t come to Jesus, you should, and you should do it today!

    - v. 21 We Have A High Priest – We have a Man on the inside, praying for us and guaranteeing us that we will be accepted when we come, Heb. 7:25; Rom. 8:34; John 6:37.

    - v. 22 We Have Clean Hearts And New Lives - The Jewish worshiper was never truly clean. Even the High Priest had to cleanse himself every time he entered the tabernacle and temple. Things are different for us.

    ‣ When a sinner comes to Jesus by faith, he is cleansed by the blood of Jesus, once for all, 1 John 1:7; Eph. 1:7; 1 Pet. 1:18-19.

    ‣ When the heart is cleansed by the blood of Jesus, the outward man is also affected, Heb. 9:14; 2 Cor. 5:17.

    ‣ Because we are clean in His sight, we have an open invitation to enter into the presence of God at any time. In fact, we are commanded to do so, Heb. 4:16.

    • Based on what Jesus did for us and what He has provided for us, people are challenged to “draw near”. There are only two possible responses to the Gospel message: acceptance or rejection.

The call is for people to come.

    - We can come with “a true heart”. We must be “sincere” when we come to Jesus. We are not to come to Him lightly. We are not to treat spiritual things as if they were a game.

    - We can come in “full assurance of faith”. This means we can come to God with the full assurance that He will receive us. If we come to Him as a born again believer seeking His help, He will receive us and hear us. If we come to hIm as a lost sinner crying out for salvation, He will hear us and not turn us away!

    • The question that comes to mind at this point is this: What have you done with the Gospel invitation? Have you accepted it?

    - If you have, then you have access to God the Father. Make good use of that privilege. Seek His face and call on Him often. Find yourself frequently in the throne room of the King calling on Him to do the incredible for His church and for the lost.

    - If you haven’t the way has been opened for you, if you will come to Him, John 6:37, 47; Rom. 10:13.

    I. The Faithful Draw Near

II. v. 23 THE FAITHFUL HOLD FAST

    • We are told to “hold fast the profession of our faith”. This means that since we claim to have hope in Jesus, and since we say we are saved and headed to Heaven some day, we are to live out that hope by remaining faithful to Him.

Some of these Jewish converts were having a hard time making a complete break from the rituals of their old religion. They were trying to hold onto their Jewish roots and Jesus too. The writer tells them to beware lest they turn away from Christ and go back to their old lives.

There is a danger in that for us as well. Most of us were not saved out of religion, but out of the darkness of our sin. There is always the danger that we might turn back to the world. We are challenged here to be faithful to the Lord Who saved our souls by His grace.

We have all known those people who were in the church for a while and have departed for the world. We must be on guard that the same thing does not happen to us.

There is nothing back there but pain, suffering, heartache and death. Ill. Lot’s wife – Gen. 19:26. Ill. Heb. 10:38. Here is what John said about those who turn back: “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us,” 1 John 2:19.

    • We can endure faithfully with the sure knowledge that Jesus will keep His end of the bargain. When He saved us and called us out of our sins; He promised us a new life, John 10:10, and a home in Heaven when this life is over, John 14:1-3. He will not fail to deliver everything He has promised the children of God. We will come short in our commitment to Him, but He will never fail us, Heb. 6:18; Heb. 13:5! Every promise He made to us is an ironclad promise and it will be fulfilled.

The knowledge that God will always be faithful to us should serve to make us desire to be faithful to Him in return!

    I. The Faithful Draw Near

    II. The Faithful Hold Fast

III. v. 24-25 THE FAITHFUL LOOK AFTER ONE ANOTHER

    • These verses have told us that we can have access to God through the blood of Jesus.

    • They have also told us that we are expected to live out faithful, dedicated lives to the glory of God.

Verses 24-25 teach us that we are to help one another along the way of life.

    • The challenge here is for us to “consider one another”. The word “consider” means “to set the mind on”. We are to set our minds on our fellow believers in an effort to “provoke” them.

    • The word “provoke” is usually used in a negative manner. It means “to incite”. It has the idea of causing a crowd to “riot”. In this context word means “to stir up”.

    • Another significant word in these verses is the word “exhort” in verse 25. This word means “to encourage”. Taken together, these words are a challenge for the saints to look out for one another and to encourage one another in our walk with the Lord.

Notice the ways we are to do this.

    A. We Are To Love Together – Love is to be the calling card of the church, John 13:35.

    • Our love for God is to be the supreme love of our lives, Matt. 22:37-38.

    • Second only to that love is the love we are to have for our brothers in Christ, Matt. 22:39-40.

    • Genuine, godly love one for another is one of the sure marks of real salvation, 1 John 3:14.

    • The absence of this love reveals the absence of true salvation, 1 John 4:7-8; 4:20-21.

Ill. The church house is to be a place where people feel loved! It is sad when people receive a warmer greeting at Walmart than they do at the house of God!

We are to love! Don’t wait to be love, start loving others and love will come your way!

    B. We Are To Work Together – We are to help our brothers and sisters in their work for the Lord. We are to encourage them in the work they do. Instead of finding fault with everyone and everything they do, we should take the time to notice the positive things people are doing and encourage them in their work for Jesus. We are in this thing together and we are to be in the “building up” business, not the tearing down business, Rom. 14:19; Eph. 4:29. We should be encouraging one another to continues faithfulness in the Lord’s work. (Ill. I appreciate you!)

    C. We Are To Worship Together – Some of the Jewish converts had abandoned the public gatherings of the believers. We are to seek out the fellowship of the saints and not find ways to avoid it. Church attendance is far more vital than many people realize. Just as a hot coal becomes cold when it is separated from the fire, the believer will become cold when that believer is separated from the fellowship of other believers.

We need the excitement, the teaching, the preaching, the worship, the challenges, the encouragement, the fellowship and the sense of family that is available when we go to church. Many of the saints need to reexamine their commitment to the public worship of the Savior. Nothing will help you stay close to the Lord any more than regular, faithful attendance to the services at the House of God!

Please do fall for the trick and trap of the enemy. Do not let him convince you that other things are more important than you being in your place when it is time to worship. Do not let him take away one of the greatest blessing the Lord has ever placed in your life.

    • Come to church.

    • Come often.

    • Come faithfully.

    • Come to Sunday School.

    • Come to morning worship.

    • Come to church!

    Here’s something to think about.

Football in the fall. Basketball in the winter. Baseball in the spring and summer. This pastor has been an avid sports fan all his life. But I've had it! I quit this sports business once and for all. You can't get me near one of those places again. Want to know why...

    • Every time I went, they asked me for money.

    • The people with whom I had to sit didn't seem very friendly.

    • The seats were too hard and not at all comfortable.

    • I went to many games, but the coach never came to call on me.

    • The referee made a decision with which I could not agree.

    • I suspected that I was sitting with some hypocrites -- they came
to see their friends and what others were wearing rather than to see the game.

    • Some games went into overtime, and I was late getting home.

    • The band played some numbers that I had never heard before.

    • It seems that the games are scheduled when I want to do other things.

    • I was taken to too many games by my parents when I was growing up.
I don't want to take my children to any games, because I want them to choose for themselves what sport they like best.

That’s silly isn’t it? Yet, those are the same kinds of excuses people use for not coming to church. Church is far more important than any ball game has ever been. We need to stow our excuses, and just admit that our hearts are not where they need to be with the Lord. We need to repent of our sin of not attending His house, and get back to where we need to be: the house of God!

If you need a reason to go to church, I will give you two excellent reasons.

    1. God commands it - Heb. 10:25.

    2. Jesus practiced it - Luke 4:16.

    D. We Are To Wait Together – As we see the coming of the Lord draw closer each day, we are to encourage one another to faithfulness and holy living. The idea here is this: as the end of this evil age draws near, and the coming of Christ draws near; it is going to become increasingly harder to remain holy and separated from this world. We are going to need the fellowship of the church more than we ever have. We have a duty to one another to encourage, challenge and help one another along the way of life.

Jesus is coming and we need one another. We need the fellowship and the strength we draw from one another if we are to make it. We need what the church has to offer while we wait for Jesus.

Conc: When you see the phrase “let us” in the Bible, it is usually a command. These “let us” phrases here are no different. These commands teach us what the faithful people of God do with their lives. This is what the faithful do. Does this describe you?

As we close our thoughts today, let me ask you a couple of questions.

    • Are you saved? If you are, you are in the family of God and these commands apply to your life. If you are not, let me invite you to come to Jesus today. He loves you. He died to save you. If you will come to Him, He will save your soul and put you in His family.

    • Are you faithful? If you are, the Lord will reward you for your faithful service and attention to His will. If you have allowed yourself to wander from the path God intended for you to walk. You can get that made right today.

If you need help in your life, please listen to what the Lord has to say to you today.
Hebrew 10:19-25 WHAT THE FAITHFUL DO Intro: The book of Hebrews was written to Jewish converts. They are said to have “trodden under foot the Son of God” and “counted...the blood...and unholy thing.” This passage contains some very important challenges that we need to hear. I. v. 19-22 THE FAITHFUL DRAW NEAR The first challenge is for us to “enter in” and “draw near”. 10:13. I. The Faithful Draw Near II. v. 23 THE FAITHFUL HOLD FAST • We are told to “hold fast the profession of our faith”. I. The Faithful Draw Near II. The Faithful Hold Fast III. v. 24-25 THE FAITHFUL LOOK AFTER ONE ANOTHER • These verses have told us that we can have access to God through the blood of Jesus. (Ill. I appreciate you!) C. • Come to evening worship. • Come to Wednesday evening meeting. • Come to prayer room. • Come to prayer meeting. • Come to youth meeting. • Come ready to worship. • Come to sing. • Come to pray. • Come to praise Him. • Come to hear HIs Word. • Come to fellowship with His people. • Come to serve. • Come to help. • Come to be helped. • Come excited. • Come expectantly. • Come prepared for the Lord to do something big. • Come praying. • Whatever you do, come! • Come for your children. • Come for yourself. • Come for the glory of the Lord. • Be in your place every time the doors open. • Come to church! • Good morning, brethren.

    1. Morning devotional for today:

MORNING TEA. THE WORD FOR TODAY
    FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 2026.
    "LIFE IS ABOUT CHOICES (2)"
‘Give your servant a discerning heart to…distinguish between right and wrong.’ 1 Kings 3:9
    NIV

CHOICES —THEY'RE the determining factor in how your life turns out. When Solomon came to the throne as a young man, he prayed for wisdom to make the right choices in life. Legendary basketball coach John Wooden said, ‘There’s a choice you have to make in everything you do. So keep in mind that in the end, the choice you make, makes you.’ Some of us make life harder by making bad choices; others move through life more easily because they make good choices. The truth is, you don’t always get what you want but you always live with the consequences of your choices. Observe: 1) Your choices reveal who you really are. Theologian H.P. Liddon observed, ‘What we do on some great occasion will probably depend on what we already are; and what we are will be the result of previous years of self-discipline.’
    2) The higher you rise, the more difficult your choices become. King Solomon could have had any woman he wanted. Sadly, he chose women who turned his heart away from God (1 Kings 11:4). 3) Your choices change you for good or evil. Once you choose, you become a servant of that choice. It impacts your life and often on the lives of others. C.S. Lewis said: ‘Every time you make a choice you are turning the central point of you, the part…that chooses, into something a little different from what it was before. And taking your life as a whole, with all your innumerable choices, you are slowly turning this central thing either into a heavenly creature or a hellish creature.’ So you must make your choices prayerfully and wisely.

    Morning prayer for today:

    Morning Prayer

A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps. ⏤ Proverbs 16:9

To pray is to let go and let God take over. ⏤ Philip Yancey

O God, our Father, we, Your children, wait for Your blessing before we go out to the work and care of this new day. We thank You for the blessings You gave us in our sleep. You have renewed our strength and restored what yesterday’s toil took from us. We are strong this morning and ready for another day’s work because of the blessings You gave us in our sleep.

We consecrate our lives to You for this new day. Take us and use us as You will. We don’t want to make our own plans, for we are too short-sighted and would only plan for present comfort or earthly success. We would rather have You reveal Your plan for our day. It may not be easy, but we know it is wiser and better than our way could ever be, for You see the end from the beginning, and You choose the best things for us. We lay our plans at Your feet and ask You to use them if they are the best, but if not, to set them aside so that Your plan for the day may work unhindered in us.

We pray for our neighbors. Some of them are sick. Remember them and grant them healing and restoration. Send them Your comfort in their pain, and let them be richly blessed by the experiences they are going through. Some of our neighbors have gone through sorrows. Heal their broken hearts and give them comfort that will make them stronger to bear their grief, and help them find the blessings You have hidden in their sorrow.

Receive us now into Your care for this day; bless us, keep us, and use us as You will. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

    1 Corinthiens (1 Corinthiens) 6

    KING JAMES BIBLE VERSION :

    1 Corinthians 6:8-11
[8]No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren!
[9]Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,

  • When You Feel Small, Remember This… 🏽

In 1977, I walked through the gates of St. Teresa’s Boys High School in Eastleigh, Nairobi. I was 12 years old — small, unsure, and trembling inside.

Around me were boys who seemed like men already. They carried themselves with confidence. Some had beards beginning to show, muscles in their arms, and hair on their legs.

    I felt invisible.

This school was a breeding ground for basketball legends. To me, the court was a stage of greatness, and I longed to belong there.

But when the new boys — the “Monos” — tried out for the team, I didn’t make it. My name wasn’t even mentioned.

    My heart sank.

That first holiday, I wrestled with myself. I couldn’t grow taller overnight, but maybe… just maybe… I could learn to jump higher.

So I gave myself a challenge. I looked at a light bulb hanging outside a neighborhood shop and said to myself:

“George, if your hand can touch that bulb, then maybe one day you’ll touch the rim, which is 10 feet high. No boy your age can do that.”

And with that… I began to jump.

Day after day. Hundreds of times. But my fingers never reached.

“Why do you do this?” my brother asked one day. My legs were aching, and since I didn’t want Dad to see me limping, I made my brother run errands for me. He hated it.

Still, my hope wore thin. By the last Sunday before school reopened, I had not touched the bulb. So I quit.

I even started thinking of soccer.

Then one evening, my father sent me to the shops. Passing by the bulb, I leapt at it in anger, almost without thought. I just wanted to slap it.

And to my shock, my fingers brushed it. The bulb shattered on the pavement.

The shopkeeper came out, furious, accusing me of stoning it. He dragged me home. That night, I got a whipping.

But deep inside, I was smiling. Because I knew: I had touched the impossible.

The Bible tells us Jesus endured the cross “for the joy set before Him.”

In the same way, sometimes you must walk through pain, endure misunderstanding, or even carry failure — because deep inside, you know joy and victory are waiting on the other side.

And when school resumed, I joined the basketball team.

Not as the tallest or the most skilled, but as the boy who could rebound. The one who could tip shots. The one who could leap where others couldn’t. The one the team couldn’t do without.

The very weakness that once made me feel small became the strength that defined me.

Here is my little advice to you:

    1. Set a clear target. My light bulb gave me something real to chase.
    2. Discipline shapes destiny. The daily jumps built strength no one else could see.
    3. Breakthrough often comes just past the moment you give up.
    4. What feels like weakness can become your gift.
    5. Find the unique role only you can play your value lives there.

So whatever your “light bulb” is — keep jumping. Because one day, your hand will touch what once felt impossible.

  • Winners don’t look back. They push forward.

I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 3:14

A basketball game isn’t won by standing still. You push through defense, stay focused on the hoop, and take the shot.

Life is the same. The past may try to block you, but God calls you forward.

Don’t let past failures hold you back.
Keep your eyes on the goal.
Press on—God has something greater ahead.
