An interesting interaction with brethren at Bible questions.org Gen. 6:5-8 says: 5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 So the LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. The underlying word for "sorry" (or "repent" depending on your translations) has a range of meaning: to be sorry, console oneself, repent, regret, comfort, be comforted (https://www.blueletterbible.org/lexicon/h5162/nkjv/wlc/0-1/) Ditto for "grieve": to hurt, pain, grieve, displease, vex, wrest (https://www.blueletterbible.org/lexicon/h6087/nkjv/wlc/0-1/) To be "sorry" or "repent" can have multiple applications, to include: Godly sorrow after sinning. Having regret over a decision that didn't turn out well. Having regret and grief over someone else's decision and having to do something necessary, like disciplining a rebellious child. Since God can't sin, that eliminates #1. Since God is all-knowing (including the future), that would seem to eliminate #2. #3 seems to be the best fit. God experiencing emotion when some event He knew would happen is an interesting characteristic. We see something similar with Jesus with Lazarus (John 11:35) and in the garden (Luke 22). I also like e-sword and https://www.blueletterbible.org/. e-sword is an app you have to install on your pc. it has modules of free Bibles, commentaries, maps, dictionaries, Strong's for some Bibles. There are some things that you have to pay for if you want it but there is a lot that is free too. I will post the link in a separate post.
