Is a birthday merely a worldly custom, or can it become an occasion that truly honors Christ?

You've celebrated every birthday you've ever had. But have you ever stopped to ask:

Paul wasn't speaking only about worship services or special religious occasions. He was talking about everything—ordinary moments, daily activities, celebrations, and yes, even birthdays.

    Here is the challenging truth:
If you're not celebrating your birthday to God's glory, you're not celebrating it according to His purpose. That may be difficult to hear, but it's a question every believer should consider.

The Birthday Checklist That Changes Everything
    — Look at the glass you're holding during your celebration.

Let's be honest. How many of us can confidently say that our last birthday celebration was truly centered on honoring Him?

This isn't meant to rob us of joy.
It's meant to sanctify our joy.

    Scripture gives us clear guidance.
    — To glorify God means:
    — To act with gratitude. Recognizing every breath and every year of life as a gift from Him.
    — To walk in humility. Refusing to make everything about ourselves.
    — To seek His approval. Valuing God's pleasure above likes, comments, and human praise.
    — To live in obedience. Aligning our choices with His Word.

This can drift into legalism. Scripture gives believers liberty in matters not explicitly forbidden, while calling us to honor God in all things.

    Romans 14:5–6 (KJV):
“One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it.”

    Colossians 2:16 (KJV):
“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:”

    1 Corinthians 10:23 (KJV):
“All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.”

    Romans 14:7–8 (KJV):

    1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (KJV):
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

True. But the Bible does command us to glorify God in everything we do. That part is not optional.

    1 Peter 4:11 (KJV):
“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”

  • The Story Behind the Hymns.
THE STORY BEHIND "COME CHRISTIANS JOIN TO SING"

Come, Christians, Join to Sing is one of the Church's most joyful hymns of praise, inviting believers everywhere to unite their voices in worship. Though simple in language and melody, it has become a beloved congregational hymn across many Christian traditions.

The words were written in 1843 by Christian Henry Bateman (1813โ€“1889), an English minister in the Moravian Church. Bateman originally titled the hymn Come, Children, Join to Sing and wrote it for young worshippers, encouraging them to praise God together with glad hearts. As the hymn gained popularity, the opening line was changed to Come, Christians, Join to Sing, making it suitable for congregations of all ages.

The hymn first appeared in Bateman's collection Sacred Melodies for Children and quickly spread beyond Moravian circles. Its message of united praise resonated with churches across Britain and later around the world.

The familiar tune associated with the hymn was arranged and published by Henri Abraham Cรฉsar Malan (1787โ€“1864), a Swiss pastor, theologian, and hymn composer. His bright, uplifting melody perfectly complements Bateman's words, making the hymn easy for congregations to sing with enthusiasm.

One of the hymn's most memorable features is the repeated cry of "Alleluia! Amen!" at the end of each stanza. "Alleluia" is a universal expression of praise to God, while "Amen" means "so be it" or "truly." Together, they reinforce the hymn's central message: believers are called to glorify God with one voice, rejoicing in His love, grace, and eternal reign.

For more than 180 years, Come, Christians, Join to Sing has been sung at worship services, choir festivals, thanksgiving celebrations, and special church occasions. Its enduring popularity reminds Christians that praise is not merely an individual act but a joyful expression of the unity of God's people.

  • Hello all, for those of you that have been praying for my family because of the death of my grandson, Tyler, again THANK YOU! The last 2 Saturdays have been pretty rough, but comforting. There were 2 celebrations of life held for him, on in WI, where he last lived with his dad, and the other in MN where my son and Tyler's mom live. His dad, and both Pastors spoke of him receiving Jesus as his savior. So in that I am comforted. Knowing I'll see him again, thank you LORD! God bless every one of you for you love and prayers.
