• This memoir is a raw, unapologetic, and thoroughly American life story. Ben E. Brady's journey reads like a cross between a classic country song and a testament to iron-willed survival.

Coming into the world at two pounds and two ounces in 1957—fifteen weeks premature, with broken legs and a cluster of heart defects—Brady was a statistical impossibility from day one. What stands out most about his early life is the sheer brutality of his upbringing: an unstable, schizophrenic father who eventually abandoned the family, a fifteen-year-old mother overwhelmed and abusive, and a childhood marked by violence, poverty, and isolation. Yet, rather than descending into self-pity or grievance politics, Brady treats these hardships as raw facts of life. He acknowledges the sins of his parents without wallowing in bitterness, ultimately finding a way to forgive them—a mature and distinctly Christian resolution to a turbulent past.

The book is also a fascinating historical time capsule. Brady captures the texture of mid-century America: the grit of Lowell, Massachusetts, the space program on black-and-white television, the terror of the Northeast Blackout of 1965, the pioneering days of home computing (tinkering with PDP-8s and writing Z-80 assembly language), and the rugged reality of working cattle ranches in Arizona.

Several threads make this memoir particularly compelling:

    1. Self-Reliance and the Intellect: Denied a normal childhood and bullied for being bookish, Brady used his intellect as armor. He taught himself to read from comic books, mastered electronics and computer programming from library books, and built a forty-year career as an independent software consultant—all without the benefit of formal degrees.

    2. Faith and Redemption: The pivotal moment on the Pawtucket Bridge—where a carp breaking the surface reminded him that God takes care of His creation—turned his life around. His conversion led him away from despair and into a lifelong walk of faith, music, and ministry. His knack for planting "seeds" by slipping a gospel song into a beer lounge performance is classic Americana evangelism.

    3. The Bench and Compassion: His four years as a Justice of the Peace in Caldwell County, Texas, show a man who understood human frailty firsthand. Operating under the principle of being "a Christian first and a judge second," he sought to rehabilitate young offenders through accountability and workbooks rather than simply throwing the book at them, while balancing the grim reality of death investigations with pastoral compassion.

    4. Resilience in the Face of Physical Trials: From losing his right eye to retinopathy of prematurity, surviving numerous car crashes, undergoing multiple cervical spine fusions, and battling severe neuropathy, Brady's body has taken a beating. Yet his spirit remains remarkably intact, anchored by his faith, his music, his 3D printing hobby, and his life with Kristie and their family in New Braunfels.

It is the story of a man who refused to let statistics, poverty, or abuse define the ceiling of his life. It is honest, humorous, deeply reflective, and a testament to the fact that with grit, faith, and a stubborn refusal to quit, a man can build something lasting out of the wreckage of a broken beginning.

  • TODAY'S MESSAGE

    SERMON TITLE:

YOUR ENEMY SAYS YOU WILL GO, BUT YOU WILL NOT GO FAR.

The Enemy Wants to Limit Your Destiny

Beloved, there are many people who have started well but never reached where God intended for them. The enemy is not always interested in stopping you from moving; sometimes he is satisfied if he can keep you from going far.

    The devil says:
"You may start the business, but it will never grow."
"You may get married, but there will be no peace."
"You may enter ministry, but you will never fulfill your calling."
But today, God has sent me with a prophetic declaration:
Your enemy may say you will go, but in the name of Jesus, you shall go far! You shall fulfill your destiny

    Key Scriptures

    1. Exodus 8:28
«"I will let you go... only you shall not go very far away..."»

Pharaoh represents satanic opposition. Notice that Pharaoh was no longer refusing Israel's departure. Instead, he wanted to place a limit on how far they could go.
    Spiritually, many believers experience this.
    - They get a job but never receive promotion.
    - They marry but never enjoy fruitfulness.
    - They begin ministry but never fulfill God's assignment.
    The devil's strategy is limitation.
But God's plan is total freedom.
    2. Jeremiah 29:11
«"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you... thoughts of peace... to give you an expected end."»
God has already planned a glorious future for His children.
The enemy's opinion cannot cancel God's purpose.
    3. Isaiah 54:17
«"No weapon formed against you shall prosper..."»
    Every weapon of delay,
    every weapon of limitation,
every weapon of stagnation shall fail.
Point 1: The Enemy Fights Progress More Than Beginnings
    Many people begin with excitement.
The challenge comes when they start making progress.
The enemy is comfortable with people who never become influential.
He attacks growth because growth brings impact.

    Spiritual Insight

Satan fears what you will become more than where you are today.
Point 2: God Never Designed You for Stagnation
Our God is a God of increase.

    Throughout Scripture:

    - Abraham became great.
    - Joseph became a governor.
    - David became king.
    - Daniel became a national leader.
    - Esther became queen.
    God's pattern is advancement.
If your life has remained on one level for years, seek God concerning every spiritual barrier.
Point 3: Every Limiting Voice Must Be Silenced
    Many limitations begin with words.
    "You cannot succeed."
"Nobody in your family has gone far."
    "Your ministry will fail."
These are voices from the kingdom of darkness.
    But remember:
God's Word is greater than every negative declaration.
When God speaks, every contrary voice loses its authority.
Point 4: Your Obedience Determines How Far You Go
Many people blame witches and demons while ignoring disobedience.
    Faithfulness,
    holiness,
    prayer,
    wisdom,
    hard work,
and obedience position believers for greater heights.
God opens doors for those who walk with Him.

    Biblical Case Study:

    Joseph

Joseph's brothers believed they had ended his destiny.
They threw him into a pit.
He was sold as a slave.
    He entered prison.
Everything suggested that he would never go far.
But every attack became another step toward the palace.
The pit could not stop him.
    Slavery could not stop him.
    Prison could not stop him.
Eventually, he became Prime Minister of Egypt.

    Lesson:

What the enemy intended to limit, God used to promote.

    Modern-Day Illustration

A young woman from a poor village dreamed of becoming a medical doctor.

    People mocked her.
    She failed an entrance examination.
Financial problems almost forced her to quit school.
Instead of giving up, she continued praying, studying, and trusting God.
Years later, she graduated with distinction and now serves as a consultant physician, helping thousands of people.
The voices that once mocked her became silent because perseverance and God's grace carried her farther than anyone expected.

    Practical Action Steps

    1. Reject every mentality of limitation.
    2. Stay committed to prayer and God's Word.
    3. Walk in obedience and holiness.
    4. Develop your gifts and skills.
    5. Refuse discouragement.
    6. Surround yourself with people who encourage your destiny.
    7. Speak God's promises over your life daily.

    Deep Spiritual Insights

    - Every destiny has opposition.
    - Delay is not denial.
    - Your present condition is not your final destination.
    - God often prepares people in hidden places before promoting them publicly.
    - Spiritual warfare increases as destiny increases.
    - God's grace is stronger than satanic resistance.

    Questions for Reflection

    1. What areas of my life have experienced unusual limitation?
    2. Have I believed negative words spoken over my life?
    3. Am I obeying God completely?
    4. What habits are preventing my spiritual growth?
    5. What is God calling me to pursue with greater faith?

    Prayer Points

    1. Father, every power assigned to limit my destiny, be destroyed in Jesus' name.
    2. Every spirit of stagnation operating against my life, lose your hold now.
    3. Lord, break every invisible barrier before my progress.
    4. Every evil voice speaking failure over my life, be silenced by the blood of Jesus.
    5. Father, enlarge my territory and establish the work of my hands.
    6. Every delay in my career, ministry, marriage, finances, and spiritual life, come to an end.
    7. Lord, take me farther than my enemies ever imagined.
    8. I receive divine speed, favor, wisdom, and uncommon promotion.
    9. Every blessing stolen from my life shall be restored.
    10. I declare that I will finish my God-given assignment with joy and victory.

    Call to Action

Child of God, never allow the enemy to define the limits of your destiny. Pharaoh said, "Go, but not very far." Yet God led Israel through the wilderness into the Promised Land. The same God is still working today.
No matter the opposition, remain faithful. Keep praying. Keep obeying. Keep moving forward. Refuse to settle for less than God's purpose for your life.

Today, make this declaration with faith:
"By the grace of God, I will go far. I will fulfill my destiny. No power of darkness will stop my progress. The Lord who began a good work in me will complete it. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen!"

  • SOME PEOPLE WANT RESCUE WITHOUT SURRENDER

There are people who call on God, but they do not want to obey Him.

Imagine a man drowning. The rescuer tells him, "Stretch your hand to the right. There is a rope there. Grab it." But the man refuses.

He says, "If you want to save me, save me exactly the way I am. Save me without me having to reach for the rope." That is how many people approach God.

They want salvation without submission. They want deliverance without obedience. They want rescue without surrender.

But the Scriptures contain instructions. God does not merely save; He tells people what to do.

Jesus must be acknowledged as Lord. Not as adviser. Not as consultant. Not as emergency backup plan.

Many people do not like that language because they want to remain in charge of their own lives. Yet salvation begins when a person recognizes that his methods have failed.

You come into God's presence and admit that your way is not working. You stop arguing. You stop defending yourself. You stop insisting on your own wisdom.

Then you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead. (Romans 10:9-10)

Why is the resurrection important? Because if He can rise from the dead, He can raise you from whatever death has touched.

If He possesses resurrection power, then there is no situation beyond His ability.

The issue is not whether He has the power. The issue is whether you truly believe He does.

    Receive God's peace!

  • DIARY OF A SOULWINNER

The day was Sunday, May 17, 2026. I was at the University of Lagos, Akoka, for an evangelism outreach. After I finished preaching, I stopped by the university chapel to meet with some people.

After the meetup, I left for my residence. As I walked past the chapel, I saw a young man praying fervently in English and in tongues. He knelt as he poured out his heart in prayer.

Something beyond the fervency of his prayers made me stop in my tracks.

It was the content of his prayer.

He prayed, “God, have mercy on me. Forgive me. Take this spirit of smoking from me.” Then he continued, “Every power from my mother’s house that does not want me to succeed in Lagos, O God of my father, Godman Akinlabi, destroy them in the name of Jesus.”

I intended to walk past him, but I felt pity for him, knowing that he would never overcome the challenges in his life if he continued praying that way.

I knew I could help him easily, and he would never have to pray about those challenges again. But he was deep in prayer, and I needed to get home before nightfall.

I stood there looking at him, and the parable of the Good Samaritan came to mind. I knew I should not ignore a man whose problem I had the solution to.

While he was still deep in prayer, I walked up behind him and placed my right hand on his left shoulder.

“I want to answer your prayers,” I told him.

    Immediately, he went quiet.

I was interrupting his prayer, but I knew he did not need to continue praying when the answer to his prayer was already available.

“Stand up. Put on your shoes and follow me.”

He stood up, put on his shoes, and followed me as instructed.

He appeared surprised that I interrupted his prayers, but the confidence with which I spoke compelled obedience from him.

We found a good spot to sit. I told him I overheard his prayers and that I had information that would resolve the challenges he was facing.

“There are things we pray to God about that we do not need to pray about,” I said. “The Bible says, ‘My people perish for lack of knowledge.’ So when suffering is caused by ignorance, prayer is not the right approach. Such a challenge can only be solved by acquiring knowledge. And that knowledge is what I want to give you now.”

He kept his gaze fixed on me with the same passion with which he had poured out his heart in prayer.

“Let’s begin from here. Are you born again?” I asked.

    “Yes,” he replied.

“So tell me, what must a person do to be born again?”

“To be born again, one has to take God seriously, obey the commandments of God, and avoid sin,” he answered.

“As beautiful as those things sound, that is not how a person becomes born again,” I told him.

“The answer to your prayers begins with you getting born again. The information I am about to share with you on how to be born again will take care of the challenges you were praying about,” I added.

I shared the gospel with him, and he believed.

I went on to show him from the Scriptures that God was not holding any sin against him, and that asking God for forgiveness of sins was praying amiss. What he needed was knowledge of the forgiveness that is already available in Jesus Christ. I further taught him how he could overcome his addiction to smoking.

I emphasized that he should stop trying to overcome the addiction merely through physical efforts. Rather than struggling endlessly not to smoke, he should continue confessing his righteousness in Christ while refusing to yield to guilt and condemnation anytime he smoked.

I explained to him that the goal of the spirits influencing him to smoke was to dominate him through the guilt, shame, and condemnation he felt whenever he smoked. I added that if their goal failed because he chose to see himself as righteous by faith in Christ despite his moral failures, the spirit would leave him, and the addiction would eventually lose its hold on him.

I then addressed his prayers concerning the “powers from his mother’s house.”

I showed him from the Scriptures that the sins upon which the demons in his lineage based their oppression had already been forgiven through the death of Jesus Christ, and therefore they had no legal grounds to afflict any member of the family.

I also explained to him that it was not God who would deal with those spirits on his behalf. Rather, he was to confront them himself by educating them about the advantage he now had in Christ and commanding them to leave.

“You are now the power in your mother’s house,” I told him. “Summon every spirit that once plagued your family, tell them that the sins of your forbears have been forgiven, and command them to leave, because the sins upon which they based their oppression have been forgiven by the death of Jesus Christ.”

By the time I finished speaking to him, his countenance had completely changed. He brightened up and told me that everything I said made sense to his spirit.

The conversation ended in high spirits, and I watched as he walked away from the chapel.

    He got his answers.

He did not need to continue praying.

The harvest is great, and laborers will no longer be few.

DIARY OF A SOULWINNER The day was Sunday, May 17, 2026. Forgive me. Take this spirit of smoking from me.” Then he continued, “Every power from my mother’s house that does not want me to succeed in Lagos, O God of my father, Godman Akinlabi, destroy them in the name of Jesus.” I intended to walk past him, but I felt pity for him, knowing that he would never overcome the challenges in his life if he continued praying that way. “Stand up. Put on your shoes and follow me.” He stood up, put on his shoes, and followed me as instructed. They Were Conned!

    May 6th, 2026

Today, Frank Abagnale is a security consultant who lives in South Carolina. But nearly sixty years ago, as a young adult, he pulled off one “con” after another, convincing people he was an airline pilot, a teaching assistant, a physician, even an attorney—when he was, actually, none of these.

He once said, “When people write about me, they usually start off with the headline ‘World’s Greatest Con Man.’ ” But after doing time in prisons in three countries, including the United States, Abagnale realized that a life of honesty was better.

While Abagnale pulled off some amazing cons, another figure in history deserves the title of “World’s Greatest Con Artist.” Satan, in the guise of a talking serpent, convinced Eve that she could partake of something God prohibited and still be okay (Genesis 3:4). She then persuaded Adam (v. 6), and it was in this act that all of humanity lost not only their innocence, but also eternal life (v. 22).

Convincing humans to disobey God required a con far greater than anything Abagnale ever attempted. In describing Satan through the image of the King of Tyre, the Bible says, “By the abundance of your trading you became filled with violence within” (Ezekiel 28:16). The word “trading” is best understood as one who goes about trading evil words. The devil was a slanderer who accused God of injustice.

Eve believed Satan’s ploy and disobeyed God’s restriction. After that, the downward spiral was assured, culminating in an expulsion from paradise and the introduction of death into the world. This con gave Satan the audacity to claim to be “ruler of this world” (John 14:30), the world God had wanted Adam and Eve to have dominion over. It changed the course of human history and necessitated the sacrifice

of Jesus to redeem a fallen humanity.

    Apply It:

Con artists generally succeed because people want to trust others. When someone offers something too good to be true, consider the offer and ask God to guide your steps!

    Dig Deeper:

    Genesis 3:1–7; Proverbs 12:22; Galatians 6:7, 8

    Key Bible Texts
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? (Genesis 3:1 KJV)
