A Prayer for the Children in Our Lives Heavenly Father, I come before You today lifting up the precious children You have entrusted to my life and care. You know them by name, You knit them together, and Your love for them far exceeds my own. I lay their lives, their futures, and their hearts at Your feet, standing on the promises of Your Word. 1. Salvation and Faith Lord, above all else, I pray for their hearts. Open their eyes to Your truth at a young age. May they come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, trusting in Him for their salvation. For you Word states: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16) 2. Spiritual Growth and Wisdom Father, Grant them wisdom beyond their years. Help them grow daily in the grace and knowledge of our Lord, loving Your Word and seeking Your guidance in every decision. You says:"Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 3:18) 3. Protection from Harm and Evil I pray for Your divine hedge of protection around them Lord—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Guard them from accident, illness, temptation, and the schemes of the enemy. For you said in your Word: "The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore." (Psalm 121:7–8) 4. Godly and Wise Friendships Surround them with friends who encourage them, sharpen them, and walk in righteousness Lord. Protect them from unhealthy influences, and give them the courage to be a light to those around them. Again, you said in your Word Lord: "He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed." (Proverbs 13:20) 5. Purity and Integrity Father God, Keep their hearts, minds, and bodies pure. Give them the strength to stand against peer pressure and societal expectations, choosing integrity even when no one is watching. Your Word states: "How can a young man keep his way pure? By taking heed according to Your word." (Psalm 119:9) 6. Emotional Health and Peace of Mind Guard their minds against anxiety, fear, depression, and confusion. Lord, Fill them with the peace that surpasses understanding, and let them rest securely in their identity in Christ. I stand on your Word: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6–7) 7. Purpose and Calling Unveil Your purpose for their lives. Show them the unique spiritual gifts, talents, and passions You have placed inside them, and give them the desire to use those gifts to serve You and others. I believe what you say in your Word: "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10) 8. Respect and Obedience toward Authority Father, I ask you to Teach them by your Holy Spirit to honor their parents, teachers, leaders, and mentors. Give them a teachable spirit that receives instruction, discipline, and counsel with grace and humility. Your Word plainly states: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother,' which is the first commandment with promise." (Ephesians 6:1–2) 9. A Spirit of Kindness and Compassion And Lord God, Fill their hearts with genuine love for others. Give them eyes to see those who are hurting or lonely, and grant them a generous, compassionate spirit that reflects Your mercy. Again I believe what your Word says: "And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." (Ephesians 4:32) 10. Resilience and Perseverance When trials, failures, or disappointments come, Father give them the grit and faith to bounce back. Help them understand that challenges refine their character and strengthen their hope. I stand on what is written in your Word: "We also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope." (Romans 5:3–4) 11. Courage and Boldness Make them strong and courageous in a world that often opposes Your truth. Give them the boldness to share their faith and stand up for what is right, without fear or shame. Lord God, As you Word states: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9) 12. Self-Discipline and Diligence Father, I am trusting you to Instill in them a strong work ethic, whether in their schooling, chores, or responsibilities. Help them steward their time, resources, and bodies with discipline and self-control. Again, I stand on your Word: "Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men." (Colossians 3:23) 13. A Heart of Gratitude and Joy Lord, I pray that you Keep their hearts free from discontentment, envy, and entitlement. Plant a deep sense of joy in their souls and a habit of giving thanks to You in all circumstances. As your Word states: "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18) 14. Divine Guidance for Their Future And Lord, I pray for their future—their education, careers, relationships, and ultimate life choices. Lead them step-by-step along the path You have ordained for them, keeping them from wrong turns. I stand on what your Word says: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." (Proverbs 3:5–6) 15. Godly Future Spouses and Households Looking ahead to the years to come, Father God I ask that You prepare the hearts of their future spouses, if it be Your will. May they build families rooted in Christ, passing down a legacy of faith for generations to come. Again I agree with what your say in your Word Lord: "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15) And in closing Father, I place these children securely in Your hands.(Name them). Work in them and through them, and grant me the grace, wisdom, and patience to love, guide, and support them as well in your sight. I trust and ask your Holy Spirit to guide me in this great and all important endeavor and I thank you and praise you for these precious young lives you have blessed me with and I give them over to your watchful eyes, love and care this day. Many think pray can only be heard if you are on your knees, but God hears your prayers whether or not you are kneeling, standing, sitting, driving in a car, or taking a shower. The Story Behind the Hymns. THE STORY BEHIND "O GOD, OUR HELP IN AGES PAST" Few hymns have offered as much comfort across generations as O God, Our Help in Ages Past. Written by the English minister and hymn writer Isaac Watts in 1708, the hymn is based on Psalm 90, a prayer of Moses that reflects on God's eternal nature and humanity's brief existence. Before Watts began writing hymns, many churches in England sang only metrical versions of the Psalms. Watts believed Christians should sing hymns that expressed the fullness of the Christian faith in clear, heartfelt language. His work transformed English hymnody and earned him the title "Father of English Hymnody." Inspired by Psalm 90, Watts wrote this hymn to remind believers that while human life is fleeting, God remains constant through every generation. The opening line, "O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come," has become one of the most recognizable expressions of trust in God's unfailing care. When a Christian goes to work each day, God holds them accountable for adding, enhancing and improving things in their workplace. Jesus told the story of three men who were each given money. One was given five bags of it, another two, and another one. The first two ‘…went and traded with them, and gained…’ (Matthew 25:16 NAS). They showed skill, initiative, and made 100 percent profit. So they were commended by their master. But the third man just punched the clock, called in sick, didn’t train, try, dare, or do. So his job review didn’t go too well. And Jesus said something that ought to make us all sit up and take notice: ‘To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.’ That means if your attitude and work ethic are poor, you’re in trouble with God. So, let’s stop and think about your job. If Jesus were your supervisor, would you do your work any differently? How would you answer the phone, type documents, treat your employees, or teach your pupils if Jesus were checking your work? As a citizen of God’s kingdom you need to periodically review your attitude on the job, solicit feedback on how you can grow, demonstrate love and grace to those you work with, make your company profitable, and enjoy the work you do. All these show man's deliberate responsibilities in order to keep the blessings of God for a long time . In 1948, a released christian newsletter during the time of revivalist Abraham Branham reads. “All the great outpourings of the past have had their outstanding truths. Luther’s truth was Justification by Faith. Wesley’s was Sanctification. The Baptists taught the premillennial coming of Christ. The Missionary Alliance taught Divine Healing. The Pentecostal outpouring has restored the Baptism of the Holy Ghost to its rightful place. But, the next great outpouring is going to be marked by all these other truths plus such a demonstration of the nine gifts of the Spirit as the world, not even the Apostolic world, has ever witnessed before. This revival will be short and will be the last before the Rapture of the Church.” The consolation and joy is that whatever great and wonderful experiences we have enjoyed in the past can still be restored by God if man does the needful. This is the message of Hosea to Israel and the godly. *1. Call to Return to God* a. Adam, representing the man of all ages, started with God, but departed from God and many woes followed. In order to vacate the woes, the message of God is simple, return to God. All the woes, challenges, calamities, anguish, backslidings and challenges of man have only one divine prescription: Return to God. Returning to God requires turning or change. Man is generally, reluctant to change. This is one of Newton's Laws of Motion. Willingness to turn is generally, where the problem of man lies. The turning to God requires acceptance of wrongs towards God, decisions with appropriate steps and asking God for forgiveness without self justification. It involves deliberate action of repentance. Repentance from what cause the loss of good old blessings, including repentance from sin, unforgiving spirit, bitterness against neighbours and perhaps God, love of the world, selective obedience to the command of God in any area etc., are just what God is looking for before He pours down His blessings afresh. God did not see that turning or repentance in Adam and Eve. Both of them were busy giving excuses and blaming each other. Neither fully admitted his/her obvious wrong and neither fully repented and returned to God. The repercussion was that they never got the blessing they lost back. They were driven from the beautiful, blessed and blissful garden. If they had returned to God with words of soberness and repentance, the story would have been different for them and the whole humanity. All lost blessings from God are only returned after turning and repentance from the root cause. b. The message of God is the same. *"Come, and let us return unto the LORD"*. Stop the blame game. Stop the murmuring and complain. The promise of God for the repentant is valid at all times and in all generations. *"For he hath torn, and he will heal us"*. When your garment of glory is torn, when your shining regalia of blessings is torn, when the source of your joy is torn, the immediate and uncompromisable demand of God and solution is to turn to God. *"He hath smitten, and he will bind us up"*. This is a word of assurance for those who take the courage to turn from their evil ways, carelessness and compromise. *Question* Assess your life where you have departed from God and your old consecration to God and His word. Are you willing to turn? Start today. *2. Comforting Revival Through Grace* a. Has Israel not gone too far to an irredeemable damnable and bitter experience? God, through Hosea says NO. When there is possibility and willingness to turn, the promise to restore and revive is always unbreakable. Jesus said, *"the scripture cannot be broken."* Hosea used the picture of Calvary and the resurrection of Jesus on the third day to show the reality and restoration of revival for dead bones. *"After two days will he revive us"*. After two days is the third day including all other days after the third day. It shows the beginning of revival on the third day and the continuity of revival after the third day. *"In the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight"*. The resurrection of Jesus Christ has assurably made possible the restoration of any dead soul and experiences even when it appears they are already stinking spiritually in the grave. b. The parable of dead bones in Ezekiel 37 shows that revival and restoration is possible when the Word of God is given a prominent and final say in the life of an individual, family, church or nation. All the revivals the Church has experienced in different ages at a time of total darkness were as a result of giving the Word of God the first and unquestionably place. The same applies to any individual that needs revival. Taking the Word of God at face values drives to repentance including burdened and persistent prayers. Once this is done, the rain will definitely fall and there will be repentance and restoration. *Question* Are you desirous of revival and restoration of past glories in your life? From the explanation above, what is your decision? *3. Continuous Refreshment unto Glory* a. Why blessings are lost and revival is gone is because of lack of continuity in the Old faith and consecration that brought the revival in the first place. Jesus said, *"If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples in deed"*. Disciples in deeds are different from disciples in the mouth to profession. Continuity is the key. *"Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD"*. Continuous following leads to deeper knowledge and deeper knowledge is manifested by continuous following. *"His going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth"*. The former rain is to prepare the ground for planting while the latter rain is to prepare the crop for harvesting. It is the harvesting that is generally seen, but not the planting time of rigour and sacrifice. He that sows, though not seen by many should sow in hope because harvesting is certain. Rain of the Holy Spirit is needed to sow the seed of repentance, intercession and consecration while rain of the Holy Spirit is also needed to enjoy the harvest of refreshment, restoration and revival. Help us today, O Jesus, to overcome every temptation. Stand by us and do not let us fall into darkness in any moment of trial. We are also grateful that You know all about sorrow. You have experienced every depth of human pain. There is no sorrow unknown to You, no grief that You cannot understand. Life brings us sorrows, sometimes very deep ones. No human friend can fully understand them. Our loved ones want to help us but cannot take away our pain or give us true comfort. Earth has no sufficient consolation for us. The Story Behind the Hymns THE STORY BEHIND "COME THOU FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING" Few hymns capture the wonder of God's grace as beautifully as Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing. Written in 1758 by Robert Robinson (1735–1790), this timeless hymn has encouraged Christians for more than two and a half centuries to remember God's faithfulness and rely on His grace. Robert Robinson was far from God during his youth. At the age of 17, he listened to a powerful sermon preached by the renowned evangelist George Whitefield. Though he initially resisted the message, the Holy Spirit continued to work in his heart, and after months of conviction, Robinson gave his life to Christ. Filled with gratitude for the grace that had transformed him, he wrote Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing at just 22 years old. The hymn opens with a heartfelt prayer: "Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace." These words acknowledge God as the source of every blessing and ask Him to prepare the believer's heart for continual praise. One of the hymn's most intriguing lines is: 'Here I raise mine Ebenezer." This phrase comes from 1 Samuel 7:12, where the prophet Samuel erected a memorial stone after God delivered Israel from the Philistines. He called it Ebenezer, meaning "Stone of Help," declaring, "Thus far hath the Lord helped us." Robinson used this biblical image as a testimony that God had faithfully guided and sustained him. Another deeply personal verse has resonated with generations of Christians: "Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love." These words honestly express the believer's struggle with a wandering heart while pointing to the need for God's preserving grace. Today, Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing remains one of the most cherished hymns in Christian worship. "Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious blood." Luke 15:7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Can you imagine the rejoicing in heaven that happens when sinners repent? Jesus spoke of this great joy in heaven at the change of heart of one who has been living in sin and finally repents. His statement can be found in the book of Luke where we see Him conversing once more with the judgemental Pharisees. We know the story as the Parable of the Lost Sheep. Once again the religious leaders are being critical as they judge Him for eating with social outcasts. His response is given in the form of a parable where He explains that God rejoices deeply when a lost soul repents and is turned to Him. We see the joy of our Father while the Pharisees stood before Him with their self-righteous attitudes, looking down on Him and the tax collectors and sinners He ate with. The parable is simple. A shepherd leaves 99 sheep behind knowing they are safe and goes to find the one stray that has wandered away. Once the shepherd has found the lost sheep he has a massive party to celebrate the one lost sheep having been found. This story mirrors our own Shepherd. He actively pursues the lost and then rejoices and celebrates with all of heaven when that soul repents. The heavens erupt in praise and rejoicing over just one, single soul. Imagine how much more there would be if more lives were changed and people came to real, heartfelt repentance? But what of the other 99, the ones who are righteous? Is there no celebration of their lives or choices? We are all sinners and we make poor choices daily. None of us is truly righteous. We all fall short. But when we turn from sin, repent and seek God’s forgiveness the heavens rejoice. The 99 righteous in the story likely referred to the religious leaders who assumed they were morally correct already and did not need to repent. They falsely believed they were living a proper, righteous life and would be rewarded for it. They did not see their own sin and their need for repentance. Have you become like the Pharisees, blind to your own sin? There is no justification for doing what is contrary to God’s will. One day, when Samuel had gathered all the children of Israel at Mizpah to sanctify and teach them, the Philistines suddenly came up to fight against them. When the children of Israel heard this, they were very afraid and begged Samuel, saying, "Cry to God for us so that we may be saved." The children of Israel did not come prepared for battle. Moreover, even if they were prepared, the military strength of the Philistines was much greater than theirs. Therefore, the Israelites should have been afraid. But they did not try to declare peace with the Philistines out of fear, or they did not flee this way and that and scatter, but they used the power of prayer. Samuel was their judge and prophet at that time; so they came to him and asked him to pray. And Samuel offered a burnt offering and offered a heartfelt prayer to the Lord. What happened as a result of this prayer? God disturbed the Philistines with a loud thunder. All the powers of the solar system trembled. There was such a thunder that the Philistines began to flee for their lives. Would they then fight? They were in a situation where they were in a state of 'save your life'. But they did not escape even if they fled. Meanwhile, the children of Israel prepared for battle and struck them with a great blow.
