• Dear Father,

Today, I discovered that there is more to this Scripture than the natural occurrence of Joseph being sold to Potiphar and the jealousy of his brothers. It reveals a known pattern the enemy operates to destroy a man. The Scripture says: “And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit; and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.”

The pattern is, “Afflict the man, and he will lose sight of his dreams.” Strangely, afflictions may arise in various ways: frustration from the cosmos, discouragement from loved ones, betrayal and unreasonable offences, lack, distractions, losses, or even death. The point is, if it would make him lose sight of his destiny, let us bring it before him.

With this, we are naturally ushered into the responsibility of discerning and prayerfully engaging with circumstances that bear natural patterns but may be inspired by demonic forces. Because how do we explain the inspiration behind the thought, “Kill the man, and his dreams will fade”? So, the wrestle does not really seem to be against the man, but against his divine destiny.

Through this story, I have learned that we should not go wrestling with a person over their obvious displays of envy, or be discouraged by the hostility of the people we love. If destiny is the plan, its fulfilment must remain the focus, because there will be no fulfilment of destiny without spiritual warfare.

  • When the Holy Father places His hand upon someone's life, no power of darkness can separate that person from God's plan. Sometimes doors close, paths seem blocked, and new difficulties arise. But that does not mean God has abandoned us. Just as in the story of Joseph, every setback, delay, and trial was part of God's greater purpose. What others meant for harm, God used for good. Trust His timing, trust His process, and remember that God's plans are always greater than our understanding.

  • Dear Father,

Joseph was a humble and honest man with a great future ahead of him, yet he was thrown in prison despite his innocence. The Scripture says, “Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.”

This would have been a deeply discouraging experience in his walk with You, yet he remained faithful, and even in prison, he was entrusted with leadership. Though a prisoner, he displayed the character of a king. This illustration reveals that: the crown may be hidden and the palace unseen, yet a king is known by the way he lives.

However, I pondered on this: the prison holds not only criminals, but great men--though only for a season. The danger arises when we no longer know how to separate character from circumstance. We begin to treat all men in prison as prisoners. Yet, there are Josephs in prisons.

On their part, they are being refined, and destiny will take its course. But what happens to us? We risk losing the opportunity to partake in greatness through honor and relationship. Father, this is a problem that haunts mankind; especially the attitude of selective honor. Yet, one of the clearest ways to know a man is by how he treats others in their lowest state. Joseph found his way out of prison because he did not withhold honor from others who were also in low estate.
