Faith That Trusts God’s Power

Mark chapter 9 tells the story of a father who brought his son to Jesus because the boy was suffering from a tormenting spirit that caused violent seizures. The father had first asked the disciples for help, but they were unable to cast the spirit out. When Jesus arrived, the father pleaded for mercy and said If You can do anything have compassion on us and help us.

Jesus responded by addressing the heart of the issue. He said If you can believe all things are possible to him who believes. The statement was not suggesting that human faith creates miracles by its own power. Instead it pointed to the truth that faith trusts in the power and authority of God.

The father responded with honesty and humility saying Lord I believe help my unbelief. His words reveal a struggle that many believers understand. Faith may exist alongside doubt, yet when we bring that struggle honestly before God, He meets us with grace.

Jesus then commanded the unclean spirit to leave the boy, and the child was restored. The miracle
demonstrated that God’s power is not limited by human weakness when faith turns toward Him.
