For whoever calls on the name of the Lᴏʀᴅ shall be saved. Romans 10:13 God commands people to repent and turn to Him. He calls them to acknowledge their guilt before Him and confess it to Him. He calls them to believe in the Lord Jesus, who died on the cross to atone for their sins. What God requires of people to be saved is not too difficult for them. Yet many find it difficult. There are several reasons for this: Some are too proud to bow before God and His judgment. They consider themselves righteous people. They think they have a good standing compared to others. Because they have not yet recognised themselves as lost sinners in the divine light, they are not willing to submit to God.For others, the way that God instructs people for their salvation is too easy. They would like to achieve something so they can come to God through their own efforts. They deny that they need Jesus Christ as a mediator to bridge the gap between them and their Creator. Yet God does not alter who He is to suit people. He declares: “For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lᴏʀᴅ shall be saved’.” This is possible for all people. Everyone can call on the Lord Jesus with confidence and personally accept Him as Saviour. However, it requires that we acknowledge our lost condition and are aware that we depend on God’s grace alone. Here are some scriptural guidelines to help you: 1) Be sure you understand the promise. God is committed to His Word, not to your interpretation of it. When Jesus said, ‘…Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up’ (John 2:19 NKJV), His audience completely misunderstood Him, thinking He meant the literal temple when He meant His body. 2) Walk in the Spirit, not the flesh. Walking in the Spirit, Peter received divine understanding of Christ’s deity. There are many contemporary cases of revival in addition to the one in Bible days. Jonah was used by God to bring Revival to the people of Nineveh where all the 120,000 inhabitants got convicted and converted. There were revivals in Israel during the time of king Hezekiah and Josiah. The Early Church also experienced great revival immediately after the Pentecost. When there is spiritual coldness and indifference to spiritual things, when there is no clear distinction between the world and the Church, when saints are distracted from heavenly desire to earthly preoccupation, then revival is needed. When the saints are weak, powerless and fainting in scriptural conviction and consecration, then we need revival. When formalism and entertainment fill our worship instead of true and holy devotion to God and heavenly things, revival is needed. In order to experience revival, there must be deep concern and burden for prayer coupled with passion for revival. It takes a revived person to be an instrument of revival. *1. The Man of Prayer* a. The man God uses must be a man of bended knees with power of prayer. *"A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.”* Habakkuk was not merely a prophet who preached; he was also a man who prayed. His direct communication with God was not clogged. God could express His mind and vision to him clearly and He also could hear from God and communicate with God effectively and fruitfully. He was a true servant of God that stood between God and man as mediator. He lived a life that was pleasing to God and God could speak to him about people. He dwelt in the midst of compromised and corrupted people without being defiled and with boldness to declare unto them their sins and evil as God had told him without fear or favour. His response to the difficult circumstances surrounding Judah was to seek God. The spiritual condition of a nation should drive God's servants to their knees. Revival begins when someone becomes sufficiently burdened to pray as he comes out of the cocoon of self seeking and self satisfaction. b. There is no revival that ever came in human history without people who had the passion and power of prayer from God. Habakkuk's prayer demonstrates that prayer is not a sign of weakness, but an expression of dependence upon the Almighty. The revival God wants to bring may begin with one person who is willing to stand before Him in persistent intercession. Churches need prayer warriors who will carry the burden of their generation before God. The praying saints or warriors that bring revival concentrate their prayers on heavenly things and not on earthly benefits and blessings. Earnest, consistent and persistent prayers by holy people with deep burden and passion for the glory of God, salvation of souls and perfection of saints are indispensable to a true God sent revival. *Question* Am I sufficiently burdened by the spiritual condition of my generation to become a man or woman of prayer? *2. The Manifestation of Passion* *"O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid"*. Habakkuk's prayer reveals intense spiritual passion. Having heard God's Word and understood His dealings with His people, he was moved deeply. He was such a person that was not indifferent to the Word of God. The Word of God moved, burned and melted his heart. It became fire in his bones that only revival could quench. First he heard the voice of God. Second he was afraid. He was like Noah who, after hearing the Word of God, believed and *"being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house"* (Hebrews 11:7). True passion for God is not passive. It actively engages in things that will bring change and revival. b. Passion for revival means longing to see God glorified, sinners saved, believers renewed and righteousness restored. Habakkuk did not ask God merely to improve circumstances; he asked Him to revive His work. True revival passion is therefore God-centred rather than man-centred. We must pray until spiritual hunger replaces spiritual complacency. *Question* Does my prayer life demonstrate a genuine passion for God to revive His work in my generation? *3. The Mercy from the Potentate* a. What does this world need desperately from God? Mercy! The degree of worldliness and ungodliness are inexcusable. Man deliberately lives his life, spurning His Word and commandments as if God does not exist. Saints' lives are soiled with carnality, worldliness and corruption. Their focus has shifted from serving the Lord to what mundane things the Lord will give to them. b. Passionate prayer for the mercy of God is an indication that we accept that God has been offended and He is angry at us because of our coldness and carnality. It should always be a prayer point constantly. *“In the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.”* Habakkuk recognized God as the sovereign Potentate who has authority to judge, revive, restore and show mercy. He therefore pleaded, *“in wrath remember mercy.”* Revival cannot be manufactured by human ability; it must come through divine mercy and sovereign intervention. The prophet understood that although God's people might deserve judgment, God's mercy could provide restoration. This should encourage us to approach God humbly and plead for mercy upon the Church, families, communities, and nations. When God shows mercy, dry bones can live again, cold hearts can burn again and His work can flourish again. *Question* Am I humbly pleading with the sovereign God to remember mercy and revive His work in our generation? Who are Israelites, to whom pertain … the giving of the law. Romans 9:4 ɴᴋᴊᴠ Israel was a nation and a people who were under the Law of God. It was given to them by God through Moses, who was their mediator, as well as through angelic mediation (Gal. 3:19; Ex. 19–20; 34:1–9). This was a privilege only they had. Other nations had their laws and national constitutions, but they were man-made. Not so for Israel! The apostle Paul mentioned this privilege earlier in the Epistle to the Romans when he wrote, “What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision? Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God” (Rom. 3:1–2). The “oracles of God” were the Old Testament Scriptures, and in particular, the books of Moses: the Law. Israel had an advantage over other nations in that they had written, inspired communications from the living God, a wonderful privilege. These oracles showed them how to conduct their nation and order their personal lives. But herein lay the problem: “the carnal mind,” or the flesh, “is not subject to the law of God” (8:7). In fact, one of the purposes of the law was to show man that he is a sinner (4:15; 5:20; 7:7, 13; Gal. 3:19–24). Israel was the “test case” to prove this. Their history revealed continual insubjection to God’s law. Righteousness could not come through the law (Rom. 10:4), only through faith in God’s provision of grace in Christ. This is important to understand because some teach we are under the law. It is said, “We are not under law for justification but are for sanctification.” However, we have died to the law and spiritual fruit comes, not through the law or legalism, but through the Spirit of God (6:14; 7:6; 2 Cor. 3:18). There is a beautiful difference between honoring God's servants and centering our devotion on them: The Bible honors Mary as the virgin chosen by God's grace to bear the promised Messiah. She is called blessed among women because she believed God's promise (Luke 1:42–45). She is a humble servant, an obedient disciple, and a faithful witness of Jesus Christ. Yet every page of Scripture gently leads our eyes beyond Mary—and beyond every prophet, apostle, pastor, missionary, or saint—to Jesus Christ Himself. Mary rejoiced in "God my Saviour" (Luke 1:47). John the Baptist declared, "He must increase, but I must decrease." The apostles preached Christ, not themselves. Even the angels refused misplaced honor, directing worship to God alone (Revelation 22:8–9). The pattern is clear: every faithful servant points away from themselves and toward the Son of God. This is not a call to dishonor Mary or any believer whom God used mightily. Rather, it is an invitation to honor them biblically—by following their example of faith while reserving our worship, trust, prayer, and ultimate devotion for Jesus Christ alone. Practical ways to gently turn from misplaced devotion and grow in Christ: - Immerse yourself in daily, deep meditation on Scripture. Read entire books of the Bible in context, not only familiar verses. Ask, "What does this passage reveal about Jesus Christ?" (John 5:39; Luke 24:27). - Cultivate a serious and consistent prayer life. Bring every part of life before God—your family, work, neighbors, church, your nation, times of typhoons and other disasters, government leaders and local government offices, those serving the public, the poor, the sick, and those who are searching for truth. As Scripture teaches, pray "for all people... for kings and all who are in high positions" (1 Timothy 2:1–2). - Speak directly to the Father through Jesus Christ. Give thanks, confess your sins, ask for wisdom, and present your needs with confidence because Christ is our great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14–16). - Search the Scriptures daily. Follow the example of the Bereans, who examined the Scriptures to test what they heard (Acts 17:11). Let God's Word be the final authority over every tradition, teacher, and personal opinion. - Learn from faithful believers without placing them on a pedestal. Thank God for those whose lives point to Christ, but remember that every servant is a fellow disciple in need of God's grace. - Fill your mind with the Gospel every day. Remember that Jesus alone lived without sin, died for our sins, rose again, intercedes for His people, and will return in glory. In a world fascinated by spiritual celebrities, beloved saints, gifted leaders, and influential teachers, let us be people who search the Scriptures daily, testing everything by God's Word. Let every sermon, testimony, tradition, and devotion lead us back to Christ. For the Father's eternal purpose is not that we become captivated by even His greatest servants, but that we behold His beloved Son. May our hearts echo Mary's own testimony: "My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour." (Luke 1:46–47) And may our lives echo her faithful instruction: "Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it." (John 2:5) Let every honor given to God's servants become another reason to glorify the One they served—Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the one mediator between God and mankind (1 Timothy 2:5). May all our devotion, worship, hope, and confidence ultimately rest in Him alone.

The Almighty God, who is the Creator of the universe, is beyond compare — supreme in power, unmatched in holiness, miraculous in works, and overflowing with love and mercy. This transcendent God revealed Himself to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus came into this world so that we might truly understand who God is in a way tangible to us. Indeed, there is none like Jesus — our Saviour, Healer, Miracle Worker, Counselor, Provider, Protector, Mediator, Teacher, Shepherd, Promise-Keeper, the Truth, the Way, and the Source of abundant Life, now and for all eternity. *Revised Version: "Psalm 82 Explained - Excerpt"* Earthly angels are prone to complacency. This is why God rebuked those David called “gods” in *Psalm 82:1* for failing to execute justice or defend the poor. The word “gods” refers to the _sons of God_ — those who present themselves before the Lord in *Job 1:6*. They are the angels God assigned to watch over mankind, to ensure that evil and violence do not completely overrun the earth. Among them were the earthly angels who accompanied the Lord to Sodom and Gomorrah in *Genesis 18*. Unlike the Seraphim and Cherubim whose duties are confined to heaven and the throne, the sons of God have an assignment that is earth-bound. Yet in *Genesis 6*, they abandoned that post. They took wives for themselves and neglected their duty to watch men and report back to God. As a result, evil multiplied. Violence filled the earth until only Noah was found righteous. If there had been 15 or 20 righteous people, perhaps God would have spared the world for their sake. But with only one left, God chose to rescue the righteous rather than allow him to be swallowed by wickedness, or destroy him with the nation. *The Contrast: Melchizedek* Earthly angels are meant to be watchers and mediators. A perfect example is *Melchizedek, King of Salem*: *Hebrews 7:1-3* > _1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;_ > _2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;_ > _3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually._ Not many earthly angels are as remarkable as Melchizedek. Most received the rebuke and judgment David records in *Psalm 82:2-6*. Melchizedek was called _King of Righteousness_ and _King of Peace_. He was also a priest of God — a mediator. He represents what the assignment was supposed to look like. *The Charge of Folly* While some earthly angels and righteous men on earth served faithfully as mediators, many others watched complacently as evil prospered. That is why *Psalm 82:1* says _“God judgeth among the gods.”_ Verses 2-6 list the charges. *Job 4:18* confirms it: > _Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly._ The folly here is specific to the earthly angels. While men like Melchizedek stood as examples, others abandoned their post. God has every right to bring charges. When evil men prosper unchecked, a nation can be overtaken. In the worst case, one righteous man is all that remains — and God must come down, verify, and bring judgment on that nation to save that one. To prevent this, God assigned the sons of God as watchers and mediators among men. This is what they failed to do in *Genesis 6*. They saw that the daughters of men were fair, took wives, and abandoned their duties. For 5 centuries the earth grew more corrupt and full of violence. By the time of Noah, only one righteous man remained, and the sons of God were still present, doing nothing. After Genesis 6, God took a stance. He began to judge earthly angels who were negligent. That judgment is recorded in *Psalm 82*. That is also why *Job 4:18* says God _“charged his angels with folly.”

It is unsafe to trust to feelings or impressions; these are unreliable guides. God’s law is the only correct standard of holiness. It is by this law that character is to be judged. If an inquirer after salvation were to ask, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” the modern teachers of sanctification would answer, “Only believe that Jesus saves you.” But when Christ was asked this question He said, “What is written in the law? how readest thou?” And when the questioner replied, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, ... and thy neighbour as thyself,” Jesus said, “Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.” Luke 10:26-28. No value is attached to a mere profession of faith in Christ; only the love which is shown by works is counted genuine. Yet it is love alone which in the sight of Heaven makes any act of value.... The hidden selfishness of men stands revealed in the books of heaven.... Sad is the record which angels bear to heaven. Intelligent beings, professed followers of Christ, are absorbed in the acquirement of worldly possessions or the enjoyment of earthly pleasures. Money, time, and strength are sacrificed for display and self-indulgence; but few are the moments devoted to prayer, to the searching of the Scriptures, to humiliation of soul and confession of sin. Satan invents unnumbered schemes to occupy our minds, that they may not dwell upon the very work with which we ought to be best acquainted. The archdeceiver hates the great truths that bring to view an atoning sacrifice and an all-powerful Mediator. He knows that with him everything depends on his diverting minds from Jesus and His truth. Those who would share the benefits of the Saviour’s mediation should permit nothing to interfere with their duty to perfect holiness in the fear of God.

Rather than learning from the failures of his father, Ahaziah continues walking in rebellion against the Lord. After suffering a serious injury, he seeks guidance, not from the God of Israel, but from the false god Baal-Zebub. His decision reveals the true condition of his heart. In his moment of greatest need, he trusts idols instead of the living God. The Lord immediately sends Elijah to intercept the king's messengers. Elijah asks a piercing question: Is there no God in Israel that the king must seek counsel elsewhere? The issue is not merely where Ahaziah seeks information, but whom he trusts. His actions reveal that he has rejected the Lord's authority despite belonging to God's covenant people. God announces that Ahaziah will not recover because he has deliberately rejected the Lord. Rather than humbling himself, the king repeatedly sends soldiers to arrest Elijah. Twice, military commanders approach the prophet with arrogance and demand that he come immediately. Each time, God's judgment falls, demonstrating that no earthly authority stands above the Lord. The third commander approaches differently. Instead of pride, he comes with humility and asks for mercy. God honors this attitude, and Elijah willingly goes with him. The contrast is striking. Pride brings judgment, while humility receives grace. When Elijah finally stands before Ahaziah, he faithfully delivers God's message exactly as he had received it. The king's death follows precisely as the Lord declared, confirming once again that God's Word never fails. Theologically, 2 Kings 1 reveals the futility of seeking answers apart from God. It also demonstrates that God opposes pride but extends grace to the humble. The chapter emphasizes God's complete authority over kings, nations, and every human power. This chapter points to Christ, who alone reveals the Father perfectly. Rather than seeking false sources of hope, believers are invited to come directly to Jesus, who is the truth and the only mediator between God and humanity. He offers grace to the humble and life to all who trust in Him. For believers today, 2 Kings 1 reminds us to seek God first in every circumstance. The world offers many competing voices, but true wisdom comes from the Lord alone. In Christ, we have direct access to God's truth and guidance. We are called to approach Him with humility, trusting that He alone has the words of eternal life. 2 Kings 2 The God Who Continues His Work 2 Kings 2 records one of the most remarkable transitions in Scripture as Elijah's earthly ministry comes to an end and Elisha is prepared to continue God's work. The chapter demonstrates that while God's servants may change, God's mission continues without interruption. As Elijah prepares for his departure, he repeatedly tests Elisha's commitment by inviting him to remain behind. Each time, Elisha refuses to leave his mentor. His persistence reflects loyalty, faithfulness, and a desire to remain close to the work God is accomplishing. Elisha understands that the greatest blessing is not simply witnessing miracles but remaining faithful to God's calling. When Elijah asks what he desires before his departure, Elisha requests a double portion of Elijah's spirit. His request is not driven by ambition or personal glory but by a recognition that he will need God's power to fulfill the ministry ahead. He understands that God's work can only be accomplished through God's enabling. The dramatic departure of Elijah in a whirlwind demonstrates God's sovereign authority over life and death. Elijah does not experience death in the ordinary sense but is taken directly into God's presence. The event confirms God's approval of His faithful servant and marks the completion of a remarkable prophetic ministry. Immediately afterward, Elisha begins exercising the ministry God has entrusted to him. The parting of the Jordan River demonstrates that the same God who worked through Elijah is now working through Elisha. The focus is never on the prophet himself but on the Lord who empowers His servants. The remainder of the chapter records miracles that reveal God's compassion, holiness, and authority. Through Elisha, bitter waters are healed and God's holiness is upheld. The Lord continues revealing Himself to His people through His faithful prophet. The chapter moves beyond the practical act of giving to reveal the spiritual principles behind it.
