Daily Devotion: Mark 24:42 & 44
“Be on your guard, then, because you do not know what day your Lord will come…you [also] must always be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him.”
If you are a Christian, you will be well aware of the scriptures that predict the return of Jesus Christ. This is no idle prediction by a human who calls himself a prophet; these are the words of angels themselves. Remember whom the disciples met after Jesus’ ascension? These are their words.
Acts 1:11: “Galileans, why are you standing here looking up at the sky? This Jesus, who was taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way that you saw him go…..”
Throughout the Bible there are hints and warnings about things to come. If you take heed, if you dare look around you, you will see the prophecies are being fulfilled in our lifetime. We see how the world is wandering away from God, we see the evil face of men controlling the world by force, we see their terrible deeds and we see the confusion of the entire human race. Plagues, natural disasters, yes, even knowledge is increasing. People are seeing strange signs in the sky, hearing inexplicable noises coming from the heavens and, all the while, we are bustling around like ants. Forever consuming what has been provided, forever increasing in knowledge, forever nurturing hate, envy and hypocrisy.
Timothy describes the ways of the world very well in 2 Timothy chapter 3.
2 Timothy 3:1-5: “Remember that there will be difficult times in the last days. People will be selfish, greedy, boastful and conceited; they will be insulting, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, and irreligious; they will be unkind, merciless, slanderers, violent and fierce; they will hate what is good; they will be treacherous, reckless, and swollen with pride; they will love pleasure rather that God; they will hold the outward form of religion, but reject its real power.”
When you know the signs, you will recognise it all around you and come to understand that the time for Christ’s return is closer than ever. I want you to heed the warnings, to read the signs and to ensure that you have accepted Christ as your Saviour. Watch your ways, be prepared, and do not be caught off guard, for our Lord is on His way.
Revelation 1:7: “Look, he is coming on the clouds! Everyone will see him, including those who pierced him.”
