Dear Father,
So often, we wait because there isn't always a worthy replacement for our expectations and desires; otherwise, we'd easily make do with one. Usually, a replacement is lesser in glory and endowment, or, even more troubling, it may be entirely out of place, purpose-defeating, or spiritually and morally disruptive. Today, I pondered the effects of delay and how humans respond differently to it.
During the period when Moses led the Israelites through the wilderness, You summoned him to meet with You: "And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people spoke to Aaron saying, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us."
We've all experienced what seems like a delay at some point in our lives, and too often, it is easier to embrace the next available but disruptive alternative because, to us, it feels even more disruptive to wait. Yet, there is a waiting season in every one of our journeys. So often, we devise ways to escape the waiting because waiting feels like idleness; waiting seems unproductive and stagnant. Yet, this isn't always the case. We seldom discuss the shift that happens in the waiting.
What better way to know You than to wait? What better place to build capacity or develop sound judgment than in the waiting? Yet, we seldom wait--often becoming occupied with crafting alternatives.
