• Good morning, brethren.
    Morning devotion for today.

    MD.i. MORNING TEA
    THE WORD FOR TODAY
    TUESDAY AUGUST 11, 2O26.
    "WORKING IN THE KINGDOM (2)"

‘To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given...’ Matthew 25:29 NLT

YOUR VALUE in a job is determined by the value you add to the job. When a Christian goes to work each day, God holds them accountable for adding, enhancing and improving things in their workplace. Jesus told the story of three men who were each given money. One was given five bags of it, another two, and another one. The first two ‘…went and traded with them, and gained…’ (Matthew 25:16 NAS). They showed skill, initiative, and made 100 percent profit. So they were commended by their master. But the third man just punched the clock, called in sick, didn’t train, try, dare, or do. So his job review didn’t go too well. And Jesus said something that ought to make us all sit up and take notice: ‘To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.’ That means if your attitude and work ethic are poor, you’re in trouble with God. So, let’s stop and think about your job. If Jesus were your supervisor, would you do your work any differently? How would you answer the phone, type documents, treat your employees, or teach your pupils if Jesus were checking your work? As a citizen of God’s kingdom you need to periodically review your attitude on the job, solicit feedback on how you can grow, demonstrate love and grace to those you work with, make your company profitable, and enjoy the work you do.

    *HEALING THROUGH REPENTANCE* 🫵🏽🏽‍🏽‍🏽🏽‍🏽🏽

    ```TEXT:HOSEA 6:1-3```
    ```KEY VERSE:``` _*"Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up" (HOSEA 6:1).*_

*In 1949, a remarkable spiritual revival swept through the Scottish Hebrides Islands, known today as the Hebrides Revival. At that time, churches were nearly empty, and the younger generation had grown indifferent to the faith. Two elderly women, Peggy and Christine Smith, deeply burdened by the spiritual decline, began fervent prayer for God to awaken their community to righteousness. Their prayers were anchored in repentance and a return to the Lord. Soon, other believers joined them in prayer. One night, a young man leading the prayer meeting read from Psalm 24:3, 4: "Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart..." He cried out, "Is my heart clean? Are my hands pure?" That honest moment of repentance sparked a spiritual breakthrough, and soon people across the island began confessing their sins, turning back to God, and experiencing profound spiritual healing.*

*In our text, the prophet calls God's people to repentance. The passage begins with a heartfelt plea for repentance and return to the Lord. It reflects Israel's realisation that they had strayed from God and were suffering the consequences of their rebellion. Yet, despite their waywardness, God desired to restore and revive them if they genuinely repented. The promises of being "revived after two days" and "restored on the third day" symbolised God's readiness to bring spiritual renewal to those who returned to Him.*

*Christians today have important lessons to learn. True healing, whether it is healing from guilt, broken relationships, spiritual dryness or backsliding, begins with repentance. It is not just about feeling remorse but about acknowledging your sins, seeking God's forgiveness, and making a decisive turn toward Him.*

*In our modern world, temptations and sin often pull people away from God. But just as the Hebrides Revival demonstrated, God responds powerfully to repentance. When believers humble themselves and call upon God for themselves or others, He is faithful to heal, restore, and pour out His blessings. For those who need healing today, they should return to the Lord, so He can bind up their wounds and revive their spirit.*

*A haughty person is one who is proud of himself or herself. Many youths are guilty of pride because they fail to recognise God as the Giver of all things and to Him alone all glories must return. Pride is dangerous to your spiritual wellbeing, as God hates pride.*

*Saint Augustine was correct when he affirmed that "It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels." Pride cost the devil the opportunity of living eternally with God after he revolted against the authority of God in heaven.*

*Young people of nowadays demonstrate pride because of their beauty or handsomeness, wears, education, family wealth and position in the society. Pride cost the devil and the fallen angels the kingdom of God, and would cost those who still indulge it.*

*God frowns on pride among His children because all are equal before God and no one should look down on others. His judgment awaits every single soul, whether rich or poor, educated or uneducated, and so on. If you fail to kill pride now, it will kill you later.*

*Jesus Christ is God in human flesh. He came into the world to identify with our sufferings and troubles. He came to bear our burdens and carry our sorrows.*

Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, Prophet Isaiah spoke about what He would do. He said He would be a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. This was exactly what Jesus did when He was on earth. He is loving and compassionate.

Our Bible passage shows one aspect of the nature of Christ. Getting to the house of His friends whose brother had died, Jesus, moved with compassion wept openly. It was the highest show of love from God to His creature.

Jesus is teaching us here that weeping is not a sign of weakness. It is a way to identify with those who are hurting. At the end, Jesus raised Lazarus from death.

*Are you sad or lonely? Are you suffering in any way? Remember, Jesus cares for you. He does not want you to suffer. Call upon Him in time of trouble, and you will experience His comforting arms of love.*

    *PATHWAY TO RESTORATION AND REVIVAL*

    *TEXT:* HOSEA 6:1-3.

1Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

*Timeless Truth:*_"Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth"_ (Hosea 6:3).

    *INTRODUCTION*

"Return, "Revival", "Refresh" and "Restoration" are some of the words used in Biblical and Christian circles that show that something good and precious have been lost or missing and appropriate efforts should be made to get those things back. All these show man's deliberate responsibilities in order to keep the blessings of God for a long time . In 1948, a released christian newsletter during the time of revivalist Abraham Branham reads. “All the great outpourings of the past have had their outstanding truths. Luther’s truth was Justification by Faith. Wesley’s was Sanctification. The Baptists taught the premillennial coming of Christ. The Missionary Alliance taught Divine Healing. The Pentecostal outpouring has restored the Baptism of the Holy Ghost to its rightful place. But, the next great outpouring is going to be marked by all these other truths plus such a demonstration of the nine gifts of the Spirit as the world, not even the Apostolic world, has ever witnessed before. This revival will be short and will be the last before the Rapture of the Church.” The consolation and joy is that whatever great and wonderful experiences we have enjoyed in the past can still be restored by God if man does the needful. This is the message of Hosea to Israel and the godly.

*1. Call to Return to God*

    a. Adam, representing the man of all ages, started with God, but departed from God and many woes followed. In order to vacate the woes, the message of God is simple, return to God. All the woes, challenges, calamities, anguish, backslidings and challenges of man have only one divine prescription: Return to God. Returning to God requires turning or change. Man is generally, reluctant to change. This is one of Newton's Laws of Motion. Willingness to turn is generally, where the problem of man lies. The turning to God requires acceptance of wrongs towards God, decisions with appropriate steps and asking God for forgiveness without self justification. It involves deliberate action of repentance. Repentance from what cause the loss of good old blessings, including repentance from sin, unforgiving spirit, bitterness against neighbours and perhaps God, love of the world, selective obedience to the command of God in any area etc., are just what God is looking for before He pours down His blessings afresh. God did not see that turning or repentance in Adam and Eve. Both of them were busy giving excuses and blaming each other. Neither fully admitted his/her obvious wrong and neither fully repented and returned to God. The repercussion was that they never got the blessing they lost back. They were driven from the beautiful, blessed and blissful garden. If they had returned to God with words of soberness and repentance, the story would have been different for them and the whole humanity. All lost blessings from God are only returned after turning and repentance from the root cause.
    b. The message of God is the same. *"Come, and let us return unto the LORD"*. Stop the blame game. Stop the murmuring and complain. The promise of God for the repentant is valid at all times and in all generations. *"For he hath torn, and he will heal us"*. When your garment of glory is torn, when your shining regalia of blessings is torn, when the source of your joy is torn, the immediate and uncompromisable demand of God and solution is to turn to God. *"He hath smitten, and he will bind us up"*. This is a word of assurance for those who take the courage to turn from their evil ways, carelessness and compromise.

    *Question*

Assess your life where you have departed from God and your old consecration to God and His word. Are you willing to turn? Start today.

    *2. Comforting Revival Through Grace*

    a. Has Israel not gone too far to an irredeemable damnable and bitter experience? God, through Hosea says NO. When there is possibility and willingness to turn, the promise to restore and revive is always unbreakable. Jesus said, *"the scripture cannot be broken."* Hosea used the picture of Calvary and the resurrection of Jesus on the third day to show the reality and restoration of revival for dead bones. *"After two days will he revive us"*. After two days is the third day including all other days after the third day. It shows the beginning of revival on the third day and the continuity of revival after the third day. *"In the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight"*. The resurrection of Jesus Christ has assurably made possible the restoration of any dead soul and experiences even when it appears they are already stinking spiritually in the grave.
    b. The parable of dead bones in Ezekiel 37 shows that revival and restoration is possible when the Word of God is given a prominent and final say in the life of an individual, family, church or nation. All the revivals the Church has experienced in different ages at a time of total darkness were as a result of giving the Word of God the first and unquestionably place. The same applies to any individual that needs revival. Taking the Word of God at face values drives to repentance including burdened and persistent prayers. Once this is done, the rain will definitely fall and there will be repentance and restoration.

    *Question*

Are you desirous of revival and restoration of past glories in your life? From the explanation above, what is your decision?

    *3. Continuous Refreshment unto Glory*

    a. Why blessings are lost and revival is gone is because of lack of continuity in the Old faith and consecration that brought the revival in the first place. Jesus said, *"If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples in deed"*. Disciples in deeds are different from disciples in the mouth to profession. Continuity is the key. *"Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD"*. Continuous following leads to deeper knowledge and deeper knowledge is manifested by continuous following. *"His going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth"*. The former rain is to prepare the ground for planting while the latter rain is to prepare the crop for harvesting. It is the harvesting that is generally seen, but not the planting time of rigour and sacrifice. He that sows, though not seen by many should sow in hope because harvesting is certain. Rain of the Holy Spirit is needed to sow the seed of repentance, intercession and consecration while rain of the Holy Spirit is also needed to enjoy the harvest of refreshment, restoration and revival. Continuity in sowing the seed of the Word of God and wetting it with tears of prayers and acts of consecration will bring the abundant rain and there will be overflowing joy, revival and restoration again.

    *Question*

Are you determined to continue getting deeper into the Word, prayer and consecration without giving up until the rain falls and there are blessings and visitations from heaven again?

    *Prayer Points*

1.Lord, open my eyes to areas that I need to turn to you afresh and make me willing to pay the price of turning .
2.Give me the rain of the Spirit that will help me to sow with tears and deeper consecration until the abundant rain falls on my soul, nation and church .
3.I ask for power and determination to continue seeking your face without giving up and backing out .
4.Father, send the rain and awaken your Church to true restoration and revival .

    *HYMN:* Come Holy Spirit.

*BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* JOB 9-12.

    2. Morning Prayer fir today.

    MP.i. Morning Prayer

For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin. ⏤ Hebrews 4:15

He is never nearer than when we are tempted. ⏤ E.M. Bounds

O Jesus, we thank You for living this human life with us, knowing all about our experiences. You became a man. You were tempted in every way, just as we are, and understand what temptation is like. It comforts us to know that You understand our struggles and that we can rely on Your sympathy. Help us today, O Jesus, to overcome every temptation. Stand by us and do not let us fall into darkness in any moment of trial.

We are also grateful that You know all about sorrow. You have experienced every depth of human pain. There is no sorrow unknown to You, no grief that You cannot understand. Life brings us sorrows, sometimes very deep ones. No human friend can fully understand them. Our loved ones want to help us but cannot take away our pain or give us true comfort. Earth has no sufficient consolation for us.

So we turn to You, O Jesus, and ask for Your help in our sorrows. We want to bear them sweetly, without complaining. We want to receive the blessing that comes with every pain or suffering, a blessing that is often missed. Teach us how to suffer according to Your will. Give us true comfort that enables us to endure whatever pain or trial we must face. Help us to grow stronger and kinder in every affliction. May Your sympathy bless us, lifting us into deeper fellowship with You. We ask all this in Your precious name, Jesus our Savior. Amen.

*Question* Are you determined to continue getting deeper into the Word, prayer and consecration without giving up until the rain falls and there are blessings and visitations from heaven again? *Prayer Points* 1.Lord, open my eyes to areas that I need to turn to you afresh and make me willing to pay the price of turning 🙏. 2.Give me the rain of the Spirit that will help me to sow with tears and deeper consecration until the abundant rain falls on my soul, nation and church 🙏. 3.I ask for power and determination to continue seeking your face without giving up and backing out 🙏. 4.Father, send the rain and awaken your Church to true restoration and revival 🙏. *HYMN:* Come Holy Spirit. *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* JOB 9-12. 2. Morning Prayer fir today. MP.i. Morning Prayer For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin. ⏤ Hebrews 4:15 He is never nearer than when we are tempted. ⏤ E.M. Bounds O Jesus, we thank You for living this human life with us, knowing all about our experiences. Amen. https://www.youdevotion.com/daily-prayer/miller/37/morning #taptapstudio #youdevotion.

  • Good morning, brethren.
    1. Morning devotion for today.

    MD.i. MORNING TEA
    THE WORD FOR TODAY
    THURSDAY JULY 30, 2O26.
"DEAL WITH THE STUMBLING BLOCKS (2)"

'Make up your mind not to put any stumbling block…in your brother’s way.’
    Romans 14:13 NIV

HERE ARE two more stumbling blocks you need to remove in order to win someone to Christ: 1) boredom. Jesus isn’t boring, but sometimes religion is. The story is told of a lady who fell asleep during the sermon. Pointing at the man sitting next to her, the pastor said, ‘Please wake that woman up!’ The man replied, ‘You put her to sleep, Reverend, you wake her up!’ Jesus is called ‘the Good Shepherd’ (John 10:11), and the Greek word for ‘good’ is ‘kalos’, which means ‘captivating’; that’s the Christ we need to present to those seeking spiritual direction. 2) money. It’s been said the most sensitive nerve in a person’s body is the one that runs to their wallet. Have there been financial scandals in the church? Yes. They even had them in the New Testament church (Acts 5). But don’t throw the baby out with the bath water! It takes money to build churches, feed and clothe the needy and send out missionaries. When money is in the right hands, it’s a solution, not a problem. Furthermore, if God can trust you to finance His plans, He will show you how to make more money. He said, ‘…I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit…’ (Isaiah 48:17 AMP). 3) discomfort. People say, ‘I just don’t feel comfortable in church.’ The truth can do that to you! The gospel is designed to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. When Paul preached, some people trembled, but when trembling leads to trusting in Christ, it’s a good thing.

    ```TEXT:JEREMIAH 50:17-24```
    ```KEY VERSE:``` _*"And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead" (JEREMIAH 50:19).*_

*The story of Jeff, as published on the website of _Changed Lives Archives,_ narrates the amazing account of redemption and restoration of a wandering child come home. He grew up in the church and drifted away from the faith after the sudden death of his father. He pursued a career in rock music, which led him into broken relationships and addiction. However, through the persistent prayers and support of his aunt, Jeff experienced a spiritual revival. He surrendered his life to Christ. The good news and God's intervention must have accelerated his mother's miraculous healing and recovery from cancer.*

*Stepping back into history, the children of Israel had been warned by God to ensure faithful obedience to His laws and complete separation from the contamination of the Gentile nations around them, as they were preparing to inherit the Promised Land. Unfortunately, they kept on disobeying God, and falling into rebellion and idolatry. Eventually, God expressed His divine displeasure after they had exhausted His long rope of love and overdrawn their cheque of mercy. Prophet Jeremiah warned them of the consequences of their disobedience to God and stiff-necked refusal to change their ways and return to the path of righteousness.*

*The pronouncement of judgment eventually took its proper cause, and they went into captivity and suffered terribly in Babylon. The passage today, however, comes with a message of hope and comfort to the people of God. After the expiration of the period of their punishment, Jeremiah returned with a message of glorious restoration, refreshment and satisfaction in their land. Israel would have a second chance, after spending 70 years in exile.*

*This teaches us that no matter how far anyone has wandered away from God, the loving arms of the Lord are wide open to receive such if only the individual will retrace their steps like the prodigal son and return to God, the Father of mercy. Our loving Father in heaven is longing to receive as many as will seek His face. A new season of glorious restoration and refreshing starts now.*

*The pleasures that come with wrongdoing are short-lived and frequently result in regret, pain, and broken ambitions. This is what happened to Amnon, the first son of David, when he committed incest with his sister Tarmar.*

*As youths, we must allow God's word, the wise counsels of our godly parents and righteous leaders in our schools and neighbourhoods to guide our actions and each step we take. Sinful temporary pleasures will lead to sorrow and the displeasure of God. They cause stagnation and backwardness in the long run. And may lead to eternal regret if there is no repentance.*

Besetting sin is that bad thing you do constantly which makes God unhappy. It could be bad habits, telling lies, living a life of pretense, using abusive words, even after you confess to be born again.

Isaac in our Bible passage never knew that his father (Abraham) told the same lies at the same place, and this continued in their family lineage unconsciously. Jacob, with the support of his mother, also told a lie to his father. Your sin will always follow after you, if you do not repent of it. Yours might be anger or hatred towards others.

Jesus wants to remove such sins from your life and family lineage. *"And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live"* (Deuteronomy 30:6). *Tell Jesus to root out the adamic nature of besetting sin, and make you pure within and without. He will do it.*

    *BACKSLIDING, JUDGMENT, MERCY AND RESTORATION*

    *TEXT:* JEREMIAH 50:17-24.

17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.
18 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.
20 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.
21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.
22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.
23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!
24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD.

*Timeless Truth:*_"And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you"_ (Joel 2:25).

    *INTRODUCTION*

The Book of Judges gives a summary of the events happening to the children of Israel as *"In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes."* . First there is obedience to the Word of God which leads to abundance of blessings and victory over the adversaries. Due to their abundance, they went back into idolatry and sinned after which there came oppression and defeat by the adversary nations for many years. In their afflictions, they cried to God and God showed His mercy and restored them. After restoration to blessings, then backsliding set in and the cycle continued to repeat itself. Such is the life of a believer who is not stable in the Lord. The history of Israel reveals both the severity and the goodness of God. When God's people departed from Him, they suffered oppression because of their disobedience. Yet, God never abandoned His covenant people forever. He promised to judge the cruel nations that afflicted them and to restore the repentant remnant. The text teaches that backsliding attracts divine discipline, wicked oppressors will not escape God's judgment, and sincere repentance always opens the door to God's mercy and restoration.

    *1. The Retribution for Backsliding*

    a. Israel is compared to a scattered sheep driven away by fierce lions. Israel, under the shepherd of the Lion of the tribe of Judah, was supposed to be an unconquerable ruler over every nation on earth since they were promised to be the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13). They only enjoyed this blessing for a few moments under some of their good kings like David, Solomon, Hezekiah and Josiah. Why was the enjoyment of their promised blessings always short lived? Sin of different forms or different shades. What were the consequences) of their sins? Defeat and oppression from the adversaries.
    b. The Assyrian and Babylonian empires became instruments of God's chastisement because of Israel's persistent rebellion. Sin always weakens believers, exposes them to the enemy and robs them of the peace and blessings of God. Backsliding never leaves anyone better than before. A backslider deprives himself of the best of God. Though God disciplines His children, His purpose is to bring them to repentance and renewed fellowship with Him.

    *Question*

Have you allowed any form of backsliding to expose your life to unnecessary suffering and spiritual defeat?
*2. The Retribution for the Brutal*

    a. Although God used Babylon as an instrument of judgment, He also held Babylon accountable for its cruelty, pride and violence. *"Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria"*. The Lord declared that He would bring desolation upon the land, and trap the nation because it arrogantly opposed Him. No oppressor, persecutor or wicked person escapes God's righteous judgment. Those who exploit others, fight against God's people or exalt themselves against the Lord will ultimately face His justice. There are those who set up snares for God's people and those who are responsible for the fall of God's people. Such people will definitely be judged by God.
    b. *"Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!"* (Matthew 18:3). Those who cause others to offend God or fall into sin will definitely be recompensed by God.

    *Question*

Are you involved directly or indirectly ensnare, beloved of God, to fall by your life, compartments etc.?

    *3. Restoration from Backsliding*

The marvels of God's mercy is God's grace and willingness to totally restore those who are backsliders and are sincerely repentant. Nobody is doomed for destruction except those who willingly reject the mercy of God. The final condemnation of sinners in hell is so severe that God is willing to forgive no matter the gravity of the offence and backsliding. The final word to His people was not destruction, but restoration. He promised to bring Israel back to their own pasture where they would enjoy abundance and satisfaction. Even more wonderful, He declared that their sins would be sought, but not found because He would pardon the remnant whom He preserved. This points to God's abundant mercy toward all who genuinely repent. Through His forgiveness, the repentant sinner is restored to fellowship, usefulness and spiritual fruitfulness.

    *Question*

Have you genuinely returned to God so that you can experience His complete forgiveness and restoration?

    *Prayer Points*

1.Father, deliver me from every form of backsliding and keep my heart steadfast in my walk with You .
2.Lord, forgive all my sins, restore my spiritual strength, and renew my fellowship with You .
3.Help me to be watchful so that I will never be a source of the fall of anybody .
4.Heavenly Father, let Your mercy restore every blessing, opportunity, and spiritual inheritance each of Your children have lost through disobedience, in Jesus' name .

*HYMN:* I have decided to follow Jesus

*BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EPHESIANS 4-6.l.

    2. Morning Prayer for today.

    MP.i. Morning Prayer

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ⏤ 2 Corinthians 12:9

Grace is but glory begun, and glory is but grace perfected. ⏤ Jonathan Edwards

O God, our Father, we, Your children, come to You for a blessing. Just as the earth needs the sun and rain from Heaven—so do our lives need Your grace, love, and life. We cannot live without You. Without blessings from You—our souls would die. Pour upon us Your grace and love as we bow at Your feet.

We have duties to fulfill today, and we need wisdom to do them well. Please bestow upon us the grace that will prepare us for whatever You have planned for us. Help us to live together as a family in a way that honors You. Deepen our love for each other, and help us to be patient and kind in all our interactions. Help us to love like You do. Fill our hearts with Your love—then we will love truly. Destroy all selfishness in us and give us the mind of Christ Jesus. Help us to bear one another's burdens and to be patient with one another. Make our home more and more like Heaven. May we do Your will here as it is done in Heaven. May our love be like Heaven's love in its purity, tenderness, sincerity, and fellowship.

Give us the grace to help each other grow spiritually, to make each other holier, and to encourage each other to love and good works. May we be a means of grace to one another. This morning, we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit, that we may receive a new baptism of love as we go out for the day. Keep us from falling along the difficult way. Let no harm come to us. Shield us from temptation—or strengthen us to resist it. Bring us all home safely at nightfall when the day is done. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Good morning, brethren. 1. Morning devotion for today. MD.i. 😀🌺🌹🎁🎀💝 MORNING TEA THE WORD FOR TODAY THURSDAY JULY 30, 2O26. *1. The Retribution for Backsliding* a. *Question* Have you allowed any form of backsliding to expose your life to unnecessary suffering and spiritual defeat? *2. The Retribution for the Brutal* a. *Question* Are you involved directly or indirectly ensnare, beloved of God, to fall by your life, compartments etc.? *3. Restoration from Backsliding* The marvels of God's mercy is God's grace and willingness to totally restore those who are backsliders and are sincerely repentant. *Question* Have you genuinely returned to God so that you can experience His complete forgiveness and restoration? *Prayer Points* 1.Father, deliver me from every form of backsliding and keep my heart steadfast in my walk with You 🙏. 2.Lord, forgive all my sins, restore my spiritual strength, and renew my fellowship with You 🙏. 3.Help me to be watchful so that I will never be a source of the fall of anybody 🙏. 4.Heavenly Father, let Your mercy restore every blessing, opportunity, and spiritual inheritance each of Your children have lost through disobedience, in Jesus' name 🙏. *HYMN:* I have decided to follow Jesus *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EPHESIANS 4-6.l. 2. Morning Prayer for today. MP.i. Morning Prayer And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ⏤ 2 Corinthians 12:9 Grace is but glory begun, and glory is but grace perfected. ⏤ Jonathan Edwards O God, our Father, we, Your children, come to You for a blessing. Please, share these lessons with your family, friends, and Facebook groups. To enhance the Kingdom of GOD.

7 Benefits of Keeping the Sabbath

And He said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath‘.

    Mark 2:27 (ESV)

Human beings need rest. There’s no escaping the need for a break, and we’d all go a little crazy if we never stopped to enjoy everything we work for.

Sabbath is the perfect opportunity to take this kind of restorative rest.

Sabbath means to stop for the purpose of rest.((Merriam Webster Dictionary definition of Sabbath )) God established the original Sabbath at creation (Genesis 2:3), when He shifted from “making” to “enjoying.”

He set the seventh day apart from the rest of the week, so we can experience that same enjoyment on a regular basis.

To truly understand the depth of this blessing and the many benefits and promises that come with it, we’ll go over:

    Where Sabbath came from

Mental and physical benefits of the Sabbath

    Spiritual benefits of the Sabbath

How people enjoyed Sabbath in the Bible

How we can benefit from a weekly Sabbath today

We’ll look at all these points using Scripture, starting at the very beginning.

Where did Sabbath come from, and why was it created?

After Genesis 1 tells us how God created our earth, Genesis 2 begins on a note of reflection. God declared His satisfaction in what He made, then stopped and “rested.” And as He rested, He “blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from all His work of creation” (Genesis 2:3, CSB).

It’s further explained in Exodus 16, again in the context of resting on the seventh day after a full week of work. This is also right after the Israelites were freed from slavery (during which they definitely did not get to celebrate Sabbath). God was helping them to become a structured, organized, principled nation.

A big focus in this transition was establishing a new work ethic. As slaves, they worked from dawn to dusk every day, with little regard for their wellbeing. So God reminded them of the Sabbath—a necessary piece of a sustainable work schedule.

Six days to focus on what needed to be done, then a full day of complete rest.

    Sound familiar?

When we get to the Ten Commandments just a few chapters later, we see the fourth commandment presented as a memorial of creation (Exodus 20:8-11).

It makes sense. After working six straight days, wouldn’t you want a break? God knew we needed it. And He knew we needed dedicated time to stop, reflect, and acknowledge Him as the Creator and sustainer of life.

Each week, Sabbath frees us from the constant rat race of a world that expects so much from us. It’s a gift that keeps on giving.

But why would it need to be a “commandment”? Why would God make a day of rest part of His Law?

First, think about the Israelites receiving the Ten Commandments. As slaves, they were used to living by commands. They were still learning how to think for themselves, care for themselves, and conduct themselves as a benevolent, supportive community.

They needed to be told to rest, or they probably wouldn’t stop! Though this was a commandment, it also gave them permission to stop. Permission to dedicate the day to God, to the enjoyment of His creation, and to their wellbeing.

They needed a proper schedule and regimen—one that benefited them, not enslaved them.

And if we’re honest with ourselves…we often need that, too. Sometimes we don’t stop until someone tells us to. Sometimes we also need that permission to switch out of “go” mode.

But simply “stopping” isn’t the only thing Sabbath is about. God wants us to get the full effect of this day of rest—to find the Sabbath “a delight” (Isaiah 58:13, ESV).

So let’s look more closely at all the benefits the Sabbath offers.

Mental and physical benefits of the Sabbath

It’s not hard to see why a break from the weekly chaos would be beneficial for our minds and bodies. But is it just the act of taking a break, or is there more to it?

A study published in 2012 showed that the real benefit of taking time off was “detachment” from work… not just not working.

Not thinking about work, worrying about work, preparing for work, etc.

Specifically, the study revealed that people who “experience more detachment from work during off-hours are more satisfied with their lives and experience fewer symptoms of psychological strain.”

Plain and simple—proper rest reduces stress. Intentional, dedicated rest.

So this isn’t about just stopping for a quick break in between things. Sabbath is a full stop—24 hours that allow us to “detach” ourselves from the burdens and obligations of the rest of the week.

Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

    Matthew 11:28 (NASB)

What better method and opportunity to connect with God? Finally, all other distractions are out of the way. We can recharge our minds and our bodies while focusing on the One who created them.

To get more specific, a Sabbath rest provides these health benefits:

It shows us we’re worth more than what we do or what we produce

If God thought our rest and enjoyment were so important that He made it part of His loving Law, it’s clear we are more valuable to Him than anything else. Our existence, our identities, our gifts…these things that make us “us” are much more important than the things we do or what we accomplish.

The rest of the world can make it feel like it’s the opposite. How much did you get done today? How can you get more people to like you? How can we get ahead of the rest?

God tells us to just “be.” Enjoy who we are, who He is, and what He made for us.

And even though things aren’t perfect in this messed-up world, we can rest in the hope that one day soon, Jesus will return for us.

It shows us we don’t have to be enslaved by the world’s expectations

Think about it. If we feel like we can’t say no to our work or obligations for one day, that elevates work as more important than our own wellbeing. (And that has echoes of the slavery God wanted to deliver us from!)

The Sabbath validates our worth and gives us permission to say “no” to those obligations for one day each week. Our allegiance is to God—our Creator—not to the world, which will never be satisfied.

No one can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and wealth.

    Matthew 6:24 (NASB)

The world says, “Make yourself more. Give us more.”

God says, “You are enough. I want to spend time with you.”

It gives us time to assess, refocus, and be present in the world God created

You don’t need to read scientific data reports to know that rest helps mental health, as well as our physical health. Mental exhaustion can feel like a whole new level of tiredness because it usually carries stress with it.

Without taking some time to get away from all the hustle and bustle, it’s difficult to think clearly and focus on the things we value.

And that’s the design of the Sabbath. Knowing there’s a dedicated day off, it’s the perfect chance for prayerful reflection.

And that fits in with the Hebrew root words used for “Sabbath.” Shabbat means to “stop for rest.” And another word often used interchangeably with shabbat is nuach, which means to “rest in place.” To stay put, to be still, to be present.

Sabbath is a time to be relaxed and to live in the moment, which makes it easier to appreciate God’s creation around us.

It strengthens our relationships and our communities

Notice the wording of the fourth commandment:

…You must not do any work—you, your son or daughter, your male or female servant, your livestock, or the resident alien who is within your city gates. For the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days; then He rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and declared it holy.

    Exodus 20:10-11 (CSB)

The rest that comes through Sabbath isn’t just for some people. It’s for all people. Servants, strangers, and even animals!

This provides an ideal opportunity for gathering together as a family, as friends, or as a faith community—all in the name of Jesus and what He’s done for us.

When everyone is allowed to stop and enjoy the world around them together, relationships can grow, too. Our bonds can deepen as we worship, pray, and study the Bible together.

Healthy relationships and a strong community provide support and peace of mind, which in turn promotes both physical and mental well-being.

    Spiritual Benefits of the Sabbath

Closely alongside these physical and mental benefits are the spiritual benefits. A time for recharging physical and mental health also paves the way for healthy spiritual development. It allows us to be more calm, present, and focused on God.

Sabbath is a day to think about the things we can’t see but affect us every day. This is difficult to do during the busy week when the “material world” takes up all our attention.

We need regular time off to quiet our minds and look for God’s handiwork in the things around us.

Psalm 46:10 invites us to “be still and know He is God” (ESV), which is something we can do in a special way on the Sabbath.

So it’s more than just stopping what we’re doing. It’s stopping with the intention of directing our thoughts to Him.

Other translations of this verse further echo what we covered earlier, about detaching from our weekly worries and work, in order to stop with the intention of looking to God.

“Stop striving and know that I am God” (NASB).

“Stop fighting and know that I am God” (CSB).

Disengaging from our weekly obligations and pursuits helps us welcome the spiritual benefits the Sabbath can provide.

A refreshed mind for reflection, contemplation, and connection with God

When our minds and bodies are rested, we can think more clearly. Then we can appreciate the Sabbath as a dedicated time for prayer, study, and worship.

It’s a great time to reflect on the previous week, looking for the subtle ways God blessed us and kept us going.

Spending time with God will always strengthen your relationship with Him. Spending quality time with Him allows that to deepen even further.

When we’re intentional about how we spend our time, it helps channel our effort and energy into what we’re choosing to do. Sabbath can be our opportunity to patiently and prayerfully connect with God. We can be in communion with Him during everything we do that day.

    A more active prayer life

Prayer is our primary communication method with our Creator. But it can be all too easy to rush through our prayers during the week. We’re often distracted or in a hurry.

And while there are many ways to develop healthy prayer habits even during busy workweeks, the Sabbath allows us to devote ourselves more completely to our prayer time.

You could even make a day of it!

Sometimes Sabbath prayers can happen while on a walk, on a hike, while watching your kids, etc. It can be a wonderful experience to pray throughout the day or plan activities that help remind us that God is our priority.

A perfect time for Bible study

Just like Sabbath is a perfect opportunity for prayer, it’s a perfect opportunity to devote to studying God’s Word.

There can be significant benefits to studying with other believers. And Jesus promises us that “where two or three or gathered in my name, there I am among them” (Matthew 18:20, ESV).

That’s what makes the Sabbath an ideal time to meet together at church for corporate worship.

You can even gather to study in Sabbath school, at someone’s home, or at a park.

It’s also a great time to read the Bible with just you and God or with your family.

How did people enjoy the gift of the Sabbath in the Bible?

God celebrated the first Sabbath by stopping and reflecting (Genesis 2:2, 3). People throughout the Bible followed this example to experience the blessing of the Sabbath:

    They rested restoratively

“Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there is to be a Sabbath of complete rest…” (Leviticus 23:3, CSB).

“…and they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment” (Luke 23:56, NKJV).

“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from His” (Hebrews 4:9, 10, ESV).

They gave everyone the day off

The fourth commandment in Exodus 20 states that the Sabbath isn’t just for a small chosen few.

It includes “your son or daughter, your male or female servant, your livestock, or the resident alien who is within your city gates” (Exodus 20:10, CSB).

No person is left out. God’s people both enjoyed the Sabbath blessing and extended it to everyone in their family, in their community, in their employment, and in their vicinity.

They enjoyed the gift of fellowship by gathering together

In Leviticus, the Sabbath was mentioned as a day for “sacred assembly” (Leviticus 23:3, CSB). Similar wording is used in the New Testament when describing the Sabbath practice of the disciples and the early church (Acts 13:44; 17:2; 18:4).

The study of Scripture (Acts 13:14, 15) and group prayer (Acts 16:13) were common during these gatherings.

And when looking at the life of Jesus, we read of Him going to the temple on Sabbath to read and study Scripture with His community (Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 13:10).

    They set business aside

A step further than simply not working, the Bible tells us of Israel’s own methods of “detaching” from their work.

They refrained from trading, bartering, buying, and selling (Nehemiah 10:31).

They even guarded against outside influences that would try to distract them from the complete rest of the Sabbath (Nehemiah 13:15-22).

They wrote and sang praises to God

Some psalms were written specifically to praise God on the Sabbath (Psalm 92).

In temple services, the Levites stood up to sing to God when offerings were given on Sabbath (1 Chronicles 23:30, 31).

    They enjoyed life’s simple pleasures

Jesus and His disciples walked through grainfields on a Sabbath afternoon, picking and eating fresh grain (Matthew 12:10-12; Mark 2:23; Luke 6.1).

Jesus also mentioned in many different ways that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath (Mark 12:11, 12; Luke 6:9). When we see Sabbath as an opportunity to help people and connect with them, we’re celebrating the nature of our loving, relational God.

How can we enjoy the gift of the Sabbath in today’s fast-paced world?

It’s no question how difficult it can be to “disconnect” or “detach” from all the obligations of life. Especially when our electronic devices follow us around everywhere we go.

But that means the benefits of the Sabbath can be even more meaningful for us when we make an effort to guard this time each week.

While Sabbath is a great time to go outside and enjoy nature, one thing we can remember is that enjoying God’s creation can mean so many different things.

The key is our focus and acknowledgment. God made the world, and He made us into creative human beings, in His image. He’s given us the ability to create our own things out of the materials He put into the world. So we can appreciate God’s creation as we appreciate the roof over our heads, the people we know and love, and simple pleasures like our couches, shoes, bikes, gardens, or hot beverages on a cold day.

By enjoying and reflecting upon life, and acknowledging that all the good things come from God, we are celebrating Sabbath.

Try making some time on Sabbath to pray a prayer of appreciation. Read a new passage of Scripture. Call an old friend. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Do something special that you don’t do any other day. And know that God’s Holy Spirit is with you wherever you go.

Preparing for the Sabbath ahead of time also helps ensure we reap the most benefit from this day of rest. As the week nears its end, try to finish everything you can by Friday. It’s easier to detach yourself from the workweek when pending projects aren’t still hanging over your head.

Many people plan to do grocery shopping and house cleaning near the end of the week. That way, when Friday’s sunset rolls around, it’s easier just to sit back and forget about all the “things” of life for 24 blissful hours.

When we really think about how much we try to cram into our lives, what a fitting gift for God to give us each week. Permission to pause. An opportunity to reflect on life and to worship the God who made it.

Mental and physical benefits of the Sabbath It’s not hard to see why a break from the weekly chaos would be beneficial for our minds and bodies. But is it just the act of taking a break, or is there more to it? A study published in 2012 showed that the real benefit of taking time off was “detachment” from work… not just not working. Not thinking about work, worrying about work, preparing for work, etc. Specifically, the study revealed that people who “experience more detachment from work during off-hours are more satisfied with their lives and experience fewer symptoms of psychological strain.” Plain and simple—proper rest reduces stress. Matthew 11:28 (NASB) What better method and opportunity to connect with God? Finally, all other distractions are out of the way. We can recharge our minds and our bodies while focusing on the One who created them. To get more specific, a Sabbath rest provides these health benefits: It shows us we’re worth more than what we do or what we produce If God thought our rest and enjoyment were so important that He made it part of His loving Law, it’s clear we are more valuable to Him than anything else. It shows us we don’t have to be enslaved by the world’s expectations Think about it. If we feel like we can’t say no to our work or obligations for one day, that elevates work as more important than our own wellbeing. (And that has echoes of the slavery God wanted to deliver us from!) The Sabbath validates our worth and gives us permission to say “no” to those obligations for one day each week. Our allegiance is to God—our Creator—not to the world, which will never be satisfied. No one can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and wealth. Matthew 6:24 (NASB) The world says, “Make yourself more. Give us more.” God says, “You are enough. I want to spend time with you.” It gives us time to assess, refocus, and be present in the world God created You don’t need to read scientific data reports to know that rest helps mental health, as well as our physical health. It strengthens our relationships and our communities Notice the wording of the fourth commandment: …You must not do any work—you, your son or daughter, your male or female servant, your livestock, or the resident alien who is within your city gates. For the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days; then He rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and declared it holy. Exodus 20:10-11 (CSB) The rest that comes through Sabbath isn’t just for some people. Spiritual Benefits of the Sabbath Closely alongside these physical and mental benefits are the spiritual benefits. A refreshed mind for reflection, contemplation, and connection with God When our minds and bodies are rested, we can think more clearly. A more active prayer life Prayer is our primary communication method with our Creator. A perfect time for Bible study Just like Sabbath is a perfect opportunity for prayer, it’s a perfect opportunity to devote to studying God’s Word. People throughout the Bible followed this example to experience the blessing of the Sabbath: They rested restoratively “Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there is to be a Sabbath of complete rest…” (Leviticus 23:3, CSB). “…and they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment” (Luke 23:56, NKJV). “So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from His” (Hebrews 4:9, 10, ESV). They gave everyone the day off The fourth commandment in Exodus 20 states that the Sabbath isn’t just for a small chosen few. They enjoyed the gift of fellowship by gathering together In Leviticus, the Sabbath was mentioned as a day for “sacred assembly” (Leviticus 23:3, CSB). They set business aside A step further than simply not working, the Bible tells us of Israel’s own methods of “detaching” from their work. They refrained from trading, bartering, buying, and selling (Nehemiah 10:31). They even guarded against outside influences that would try to distract them from the complete rest of the Sabbath (Nehemiah 13:15-22). They wrote and sang praises to God Some psalms were written specifically to praise God on the Sabbath (Psalm 92). In temple services, the Levites stood up to sing to God when offerings were given on Sabbath (1 Chronicles 23:30, 31). They enjoyed life’s simple pleasures Jesus and His disciples walked through grainfields on a Sabbath afternoon, picking and eating fresh grain (Matthew 12:10-12; Mark 2:23; Luke 6.1).

  • Dear Father,

What would be the case if all my walk on earth were set up as a race--one I never saw myself competing in? Today, I came across the passage that says, “Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.” So I wondered: what if the whole world were a race field, with humans engaged in different kinds of races, and the varying disciplines in our careers and ministerial assignments were all classified as races: whether we be pastors or presidents, accountants or parents?

Also, this illustration connects the rules to the crown: the rules, not necessarily our own definition of what it means to win. So maybe the standard for a president is commitment to the wellbeing and safety of the people, not material acquisitions and affluence. For parents: the discipline instilled in their children, and whether they have been brought up in Your way. For a creative: the motive and inspiration behind their work, and whether it brings glory to You.

What if every one of our actions would be rewarded, and all that is placed in our hands would be analyzed by how we put it to use? What if all we do in life is a race we do not see ourselves competing in? What if there are rules to this race, where success in this realm differs significantly from success in Your realm?

I know for a surety, if earth were a race and there were rules, one would most assuredly apply: that in all we do, we bring glory to Your Name.

A former UK high school teacher sexually assaulted and smothered to death a baby boy he adopted months earlier with his partner, a jury has been told.

The court heard Preston Davey, who was pronounced dead at Blackpool Victoria Hospital ( UK ) in July 2023, had suffered 40 traumatic injuries over four months.

Jamie Varley, 37, is accused of killing the 13-month-old, along with 25 other charges relating to his sexual and physical mistreatment.

His partner John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, is accused of causing or allowing the death of the child and four other offences. Both men deny all charges.

Warning: The following court evidence contains information some readers may find distressing
Preston Crown Court heard that in the final months of his brief life, the child had been routinely ill-treated, sexually abused and physically assaulted.

Peter Wright KC, opening the case for the prosecution, said Preston had been a "perfectly healthy boy" before he was adopted by the defendants in April 2023.

But, he said, the boy was admitted to hospital with injuries three times in the next four months. He died on 27 July.

Wright said: "This is inevitably a highly emotionally charged case.

"It's a terrible case because it involves the death of a very, very young child.

"It is inevitable that it will provoke strong feelings in anyone who hears the details."

Preston was born on 16 June 2022, and at nine months old was placed with the defendants for them to adopt, living at their home on Staining Road, Blackpool, the court heard.

Wright said Preston had been taken by the defendants to the hospital's A&E at about 18:30 BST on 27 July.

He was unconscious and in a state of cardiac arrest and died less than an hour later.

    'Sinister pathology'
A post-mortem examination found Preston's cause of death was acute upper airways obstruction, as a result of smothering.

Wright said the boy's tragic death was "not the result of some dreadful yet unforeseen accident or natural phenomenon".

"The evidence gathered during the investigation into his untimely death revealed a much more sinister pathology," he said.

"We say the evidence demonstrates that he was murdered by one of the people entrusted with his wellbeing; one of his proposed adoptive parents.

"We say the person responsible for killing Preston Davey was the defendant, Jamie Varley."

Wright said the post-mortem had also shown the child had suffered about 40 injuries over four months, including external and internal bruising, and a fractured arm.

The prosecution said that Varley was mostly responsible, but evidence recovered by detectives implicated both men in sexual assault – and McGowan-Fazakerley had failed to protect the baby.

Wright told the jury, that on the day Preston died Varley had sexually assaulted Preston, causing internal injuries, while home alone with the child and McGowan-Fazakerley had been at work.

    Indecent images
Wright said detectives found videos on Varley's mobile phone, recorded earlier that day, with the boy lying on a bed with physical and obvious signs of respiratory arrest but the defendant did not seek medical help.

The prosecutor warned jurors to "steel themselves" as images of the child were shown on screen.

The jury was told Varley had taken indecent images and videos of the abuse.

The defendants appeared to be a happy, stable couple, but that was far from the truth, Wright said.

Varley denies murder, manslaughter, two counts of assault by penetration, five counts of cruelty to a child, grievous bodily harm, sexual assault of a child, 13 counts of taking indecent photos or videos of a child, one of distributing an indecent photo of a child, to his co-accused, and one of making an indecent photo.

McGowan-Fazakerley denies allowing the death of a child, three counts of child cruelty and one count of the sexual assault of a child.

The trial continues. ( as at April 21, 2026 )
