• Daily Devotion — August 4 | Acts 15:28 (NKJV)

Walking in Step with the Holy Spirit

Acts chapter 15 records the Jerusalem Council, where the apostles and church leaders gathered to resolve an important question concerning Gentile believers. Rather than allowing division or personal opinions to guide their decision, they sought the Lord together. After careful discussion, prayer, and the testimony of God's work among the Gentiles, they concluded that the Holy Spirit had made His will clear.

Their statement, "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us," reveals the importance of seeking God's direction before making decisions. The leaders did not rely solely on human wisdom. They desired to align their hearts with what God was already doing. Their decision protected the truth of the gospel while encouraging unity within the growing church.

This verse reminds us that God desires to lead His people today through His Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. While we may face difficult choices, we can confidently seek His wisdom through prayer, Scripture, and godly counsel. When our hearts are surrendered to Him, He faithfully directs our paths.

For believers today, this passage encourages us to pursue unity, humility, and dependence on God rather than insisting on our own preferences. A life led by the Holy Spirit produces peace, wisdom, and obedience that honors Christ.

    Reflection Questions

    1. Do I seek God's direction before making important decisions?

    2. Am I willing to submit my plans to the leading of the Holy Spirit?

    3. How can I promote unity while remaining faithful to God's truth?

    Prayer

Lord God, thank You for giving Your Holy Spirit to guide Your people. Help me to seek Your wisdom above my own understanding and to walk in obedience to Your Word. Give me a humble heart that desires Your will in every decision. In Jesus name Amen.

    Practical Application

    ● Spend time in prayer before making important decisions.

    ● Study God's Word for wisdom and direction.

    ● Seek to encourage unity while remaining faithful to biblical truth.

    Takeaway Thought

When we seek God's guidance, the Holy Spirit leads us in wisdom, truth, and peace.

  • AVOID EMOTIONAL DECISIONS WITHOUT SPIRITUAL CONFIRMATION

Many believers make critical life decisions based on how they feel rather than what God is saying. Emotions are powerful, but they are not reliable guides.

If not subjected to the leadership of the Holy Spirit, emotions can lead to regret, pain, and spiritual setbacks.

The Bible clearly warns us that emotions—especially the heart—can be deceptive.

Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV): “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

    1. EMOTIONS ARE UNSTABLE AND CAN MISLEAD YOU

Emotions fluctuate based on situations, moods, and external influences.

You can feel love today and hate tomorrow.

You can feel confident now and doubtful later.

Proverbs 14:12: “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

What feels right is not always God’s will.

    2. GOD DOES NOT LEAD BY EMOTIONS BUT BY HIS SPIRIT

God’s guidance is not based on your feelings but on His Spirit and His Word.

Romans 8:14: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

Galatians 5:16: “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

Emotional decisions often satisfy the flesh, but spiritual decisions align with God’s purpose.

    3. THE DANGER OF EMOTIONAL DECISIONS

    A. Wrong Relationships
Many enter relationships out of loneliness or attraction, not divine direction.

2 Corinthians 6:14: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers…”

    B. Financial Mistakes
Impulse spending or investments without prayer can lead to loss.

Luke 14:28: “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost…”

    C. Ministry Errors
Acting out of excitement or pressure rather than calling can derail destiny.

Hebrews 5:4: “And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God…”

    4. SEEK SPIRITUAL CONFIRMATION BEFORE ACTION

God expects you to verify decisions spiritually before acting.

    A. Through Prayer
James 1:5: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God…”

    B. Through the Word
Psalm 119:105: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet…”

    C. Through Inner Peace
Colossians 3:15: “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts…”

God’s confirmation often comes with peace, not pressure.

    5. WAITING IS BETTER THAN WRONG ACTION

Many people rush because of emotions—fear, excitement, anger—but waiting on God preserves destiny.

Isaiah 40:31: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…”

Ecclesiastes 3:1: “To everything there is a season…”

Delay is not denial; sometimes it is divine protection.

    6. JESUS: OUR PERFECT EXAMPLE

Even Jesus did not act on emotion but sought the Father’s will.

Luke 22:42: “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”

Submission to God’s will overrides emotional pressure.

    7. HOW TO CONTROL EMOTIONAL DECISIONS

Pause before acting – Never decide in haste

Pray before responding – Especially when emotional

Seek godly counsel – Proverbs 11:14

    Test every spirit – 1 John 4:1

Allow time for confirmation – God is not in a hurry

    CONCLUSION

Emotions are part of human life, but they must never lead your decisions. A life led by emotions is unstable, but a life led by the Spirit is secure.

    Proverbs 3:5–6:
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

    ALTAR CALL

    Ask yourself:

Am I making decisions based on feelings or God’s voice?

Have I truly prayed and received confirmation?

Surrender every emotional burden to God and ask for spiritual sensitivity.

    PRAYER
Father, deliver me from making decisions based on emotions. Teach me to wait for Your voice and confirmation. Let Your Spirit lead me in every step I take. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
