• Job 28:5 The earth, from which food comes, is transformed below as by fire…

Transformation happens not just in us, but also within the world we live in. We see in today’s verse how the earth is transformed below. But why was this verse selected to be included in this month’s devotions? Let’s see what we can glean from the words in it today.

This verse is taken from the book of Job which is one of the earliest books written and provides answers for such questions as suffering and why things happen. In the verses around today’s selection we see metaphors that explain things like mining and the provision of food. In these, we learn that man has many methods of technological advancement or ingenuity that allow him to extract things that can be used.

But none of this explains the mystery of HOW it all happens or why. The earth, which produces all of the wonderful and wondrous things we rely on, is being transformed. It is being changed, shaped, and remade by some mysterious force. Or rather, it is all done through the hand of God. He alone makes things happen, brings about the changes, remakes and builds things up that we see and use. It is not done through the efforts of mankind, no matter how advanced we become with our technology and know-how.

But what does this have to do with our daily walk?

We need to understand that what we have is not due to our own efforts, our own mining or farming efforts, our own ingenuity. It is ours because He has given it to us. He has blessed us. He has provided for us. He has done it all, not us.

What are you mining for or digging up? Are you seeking glory? Are you pushing for financial success or fame or notoriety? What are you sacrificing your praise and worship for in hopes of obtaining?

How much of the time that you spend digging for other things compared to how much time you spend digging through God’s Word? How much time do you give to Him thanking Him for the blessings He has poured out upon you?

Take a few moments today to stop and thank Him for providing everything you need and blessing you beyond those things with additional grace and blessings. Acknowledge His hand in your life and in all you have and thank Him. Then spend some time digging deep into His Word to learn something new. Not sure where to start? I always suggest the book of Romans to people wondering where to begin.

4 Reasons Why You Should Challenge Culture

But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened." But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:14-15

Have you ever asked yourself what prompts a mother who leads her three grade school children to the school bus every morning to become a leader in a cultural war? Or an unremarkable seamstress in the back of the bus to defy the laws of the land? Quiet and unassuming people who become passionate for a cause, and to the great surprise of even themselves, often lead the fight for right. So, how does that happen? What makes some strong enough to lead a fight while others, far better equipped and prepared, are marginalized or just give up?

First, you make a difference when you believe in the rightness of a cause. These individuals are driven with passion for what is moral or right. Take, for example, the story of a remarkable woman named Rosa Parks. She was called the "first lady of civil rights" by the U.S. Congress. In 1955, Parks refused to give up her seat in the colored section of a bus when the white section of the bus was filled.

Solely the fact that a person believes in a cause doesn't necessarily make it right. But Parks was a devout Christian, convinced that giving up that seat would be wrong - and she refused to get up. "Since I have always been a strong believer in God," she said, "I knew He was with me, and only He could get me through that next step." In her book, entitled Quiet Strength, Parks said her belief in God developed early in life. "Every day before supper and before we went to services on Sundays," Parks said, "my grandmother would read the Bible to me, and my grandfather would pray. We even had devotions before going to pick cotton in the fields." "Prayer and the Bible," she said, "became a part of my everyday thoughts and beliefs. I learned to put my trust in God and to seek Him as my strength."[1]

Whether it was Rosa Parks or Jose Rizal, each was motivated by a higher cause than just changing society. They believed they fought for what God decreed.

Second, you make a difference in a cause when you are willing to pay a price. That price may include ridicule, being the target of lies and slander, isolation, loneliness, at times even financial loss and pain. Perhaps being arrested.

Third, you make a difference in a cause when you don't give up but continually do battle for what you believe is right. Parks lived long enough to see civil rights gains which she fought for, but she inspired many after her to continue to stand up for right. In the fly leaf of my Bible is a quote by Edward Everett Hale that goes, "I am only one, yet I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something, and what I can do, I will do by the grace of God."

Fourth, you make a difference when you put your cause in the hands of God who is sovereign and never takes a backseat to wrongdoing. Sometimes we're intimidated by strong individuals whose lives and commitment have resulted in sweeping changes and are overcome by the helplessness of believing, "I can't do anything," and fail to do what we can.

Never minimize the fact God can still take you, and the small spark you ignite may well produce a raging social inferno that can consume dross and make a difference in our world. God will never hold you responsible for what you can't do, but He holds you accountable for what you can do. And when you do your utmost for His highest, that's enough. Never forget it.

  • Before we retire to bed lemme remind you something kindly,, I'm not here to discourage you from praying for one another or against it because intercession is powerful and there is nothing wrong with telling someone, "please pray for me," but there is another question each one of us must ask ourselves; do I also have the desire to learn how to pray for myself and seek God personally? Simply because being prayed for all the time can sometimes create small spiritual expectations if we never develop our own relationship with God whereby you may always wait for someone else to carry your burden to God yet God is also calling you to discover what it means to seek Him personally hear His word grow in faith and build your own altar...and that's why our morning prayers and devotions are not a command that forces anyone to wake up but it is just a personal decision therefore tonight before you sleep ask yourself honestly, "am I really willing to sacrifice some sleep because I desire a deeper encounter with God? And am I willing to seek Him beyond the hours that are convenient for me?" that is why we intentionally make room for midnight prayers and 3am prayers because we are learning to deny ourselves, not only through food but also by sacrificing comfort and sleep to seek God...the Bible gives us powerful pictures of people seeking God in the night if we read Psalm 119:62 says it says“at midnight I rise to give you thanks," and also in Genesis 28:12 Jacob saw a stairway reaching from earth to heaven with angels ascending and descending on it therefore we should not turn these passages into a formula that says every angelic activity happens at a particular hour rather they remind us that the spiritual life is deeper than what our physical eyes can see and that seeking God requires intentionality because there are moments when you need to leave your bed enter your prayer place and say; "Lord I don't only want people to pray for me but teach me how to seek You for myself,”that is why this fast includes moments of midnight and 3am prayer,,we are training ourselves to pursue God beyond convenience, to develop spiritual discipline, to deepen our prayer lives and to make room for Him in the quiet hours of the night...so tonight don't only ask "who will pray for me?" but ask yourself, "when will I learn to seek God for myself?" Because intercession from others is a blessing but your personal altar must also be built don't only be a Christian who desire someone else prayers but also desire to develop your own hunger for God,,make room wake up seek Him and build your altar

  • BE STILL, MY SOUL: THE LORD IS ON MY SIDE
How to anchor your soul in the One who never changes.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
    —Psalm 46:10 NKJV

There are moments in life when you have to preach to your own soul.

Your circumstances are speaking. Your emotions are speaking. Fear is whispering about tomorrow, disappointment is reminding you of yesterday, and your mind is trying to solve things God never asked you to figure out. Before long, your soul can become so noisy that it becomes difficult to hear the quiet confidence of faith.

That is when you have to say, “Be still, my soul. The Lord is on my side.”

Your soul will not always tell you the truth. It may tell you that this time you are not going to make it, that the storm is too strong, or that perhaps God has forgotten where you are. But faith answers:

“If God is for us, who can be against us?”
    —Romans 8:31 NKJV

That does not mean nothing will ever oppose us. There will be battles, disappointments, losses, and seasons when the road makes absolutely no sense. But none of those things changes the fact that God is for us. And if God is for us, whatever is against us does not get the final word.

David understood the need to speak to his own soul. He asked, “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me?” Then he answered his troubled heart: “Hope in God” (Psalm 42:5).

David acknowledged his heaviness, but he refused to let heaviness become his master. He redirected his soul toward God.

Sometimes we must do the same.

Stop rehearsing disaster. Stop imagining endings God has never written. Stop allowing fear to preach to you all day long. Remember who God is. Remember what He has already done.

    Be still, my soul.

I love the story of Jesus and His disciples in the storm. The waves were beating against the boat and the disciples were terrified, yet Jesus was asleep. The same storm surrounded all of them, but it did not have the same effect on Jesus.

The disciples saw waves. Jesus knew the Father.

Then He arose and said, “Peace, be still!” and the wind ceased.

We often want Jesus to immediately speak to everything around us: “Lord, fix this. Change this. Stop this.” And He certainly can. But sometimes, before He changes what is happening around us, He establishes His peace within us.

The storm may still be raging, but suddenly your heart becomes quiet. You remember: My Father sees me. My Father knows where I am. My Father has not abandoned me.

That is the rest of God.

One of the enemy’s favorite lies is to convince us that trouble means God has withdrawn. A door closes, a prayer is delayed, an unexpected change comes, and suddenly we question what we once knew.

But difficulty is not proof of abandonment.

    God has not changed sides.

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
    —Hebrews 13:5 NKJV

Never means never—not only when you feel Him, not only when everything makes sense, and not only when answers come quickly.

Life changes. People change. Health changes. Finances change. Families change. Doors open and doors close. But in the middle of all that movement stands One who does not change.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
    —Hebrews 13:8 NKJV

Think back over your life. Has He sustained you before? Has He provided when you did not know where the answer would come from? Has He carried you through something you thought would break you?

Then do not allow your present trouble to erase the memory of His past faithfulness.

The God who carried you yesterday has not suddenly lost His ability to carry you today.

And remember—you are going through this.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…”
    —Psalm 23:4 NKJV

You are not building your house in the valley. You are passing through it. You may be tired and moving slowly, but by the grace of God you are still moving.

The valley is not your destination. The storm is not your destination. There is another side.

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”
    —Psalm 30:5 NKJV

    Night has an expiration date.

So today, if your soul is weary, speak to it. If fear is whispering dark predictions, answer it with what you know.

The Lord is still God. He is still faithful. He is still near. He is still fighting battles you cannot see.

Lift your head again. Square your shoulders. Take up your shield. You may be battle weary, but you are not defeated.

And when your soul begins whispering fear again, answer it with faith:

“Be still, my soul. The Lord is on my side.”

    PRAYER

Father, quiet every voice in me that speaks louder than Your truth. When fear rises, remind me that You are near. When circumstances change, anchor me in Your unchanging faithfulness. Help me remember how You have carried me before and trust You to carry me again. Teach my soul to rest in You, even before the storm changes. I believe You are with me, You are for me, and You have not changed sides. In Jesus’ name, amen.

  • Think about all the people and things we trust and entrust ourselves to every single day, and yet when it comes to putting our trust in Jesus many are hesitant, doubtful and unwilling to do so.

If you're blessed by it, please share it with others.
