    SERMON TOPIC:

WHEN OUR MEN ARE PLAITING HAIR AND WEARING EARRINGS.

    Main Text:

    1 Corinthians 11:14-15, 1 Peter 3:3-4, Deuteronomy 22:5, Romans 12:1-2

We live in a generation where the lines between masculinity and femininity are becoming increasingly blurred. Many men are adopting styles once associated with women, while some women are embracing appearances traditionally associated with men. Fashion has become a powerful influence, and many believers follow trends without asking whether they honor God.

As Christians, our highest standard is not culture, celebrities, or social media. Our standard is the Word of God. Every believer must ask: Does my appearance glorify Christ? Does it reflect godly identity, or merely the latest trend?
God is concerned not only with the heart but also with the testimony our lives present to the world.

    KEY BIBLE VERSES

    1. 1 Corinthians 11:14-15
    > "Does not nature itself teach you..."
Paul teaches that God established distinctions between men and women. His emphasis is that believers should respect the order and identity God has created.
    2. Romans 12:2
    > "Do not be conformed to this world..."

Christians must resist the pressure to imitate worldly fashions that conflict with biblical values.
    3. 1 Peter 3:3-4
Peter reminds believers that outward appearance should never replace inward holiness. A gentle and godly spirit is precious before God.
    4. Deuteronomy 22:5
This passage highlights God's concern that distinctions between male and female should be respected rather than intentionally blurred.
POINT 1: GOD CREATED MEN AND WOMEN WITH DISTINCT IDENTITIES
From creation, God intentionally made male and female different.
Our identity is God's gift, not something culture should redefine.
A godly man should embrace biblical manhood with confidence, dignity, and holiness.
POINT 2: NOT EVERY TREND IS WORTH FOLLOWING
    Fashion changes every season.
    God's Word never changes.
Many harmful practices began as "just fashion."
Believers must exercise discernment instead of copying every trend.
POINT 3: YOUR BODY IS A TESTIMONY
People often see your life before they hear your message.
Our appearance should reflect modesty, wisdom, and reverence for God.
The goal is not legalism but living in a way that points people to Christ rather than to ourselves.
POINT 4: TRUE BEAUTY COMES FROM INNER TRANSFORMATION
    External appearance cannot replace holiness.
God values purity, humility, love, and obedience far more than outward decoration.
When Christ transforms the heart, it influences speech, character, and even personal choices.

    BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Consider Daniel and his friends in Babylon.

Though surrounded by a culture that sought to reshape their identity, they chose faithfulness to God rather than conformity to society. Because they stood firm, God honored them with wisdom, favor, and influence.

    PRACTICAL ACTION STEPS

Examine whether your lifestyle reflects Christ or merely follows culture.
Base your choices on Scripture rather than social pressure.
Parents should lovingly teach biblical identity to their children.
Church leaders should disciple believers with truth spoken in love.
Focus on developing Christlike character above outward appearance.

    DEEP SPIRITUAL INSIGHTS

Identity is established by God, not by changing cultural trends.
Holiness affects every area of life, including our outward conduct.
Christians are called to be transformed, not merely fashionable.
God's desire is not outward uniformity but inward obedience that shapes outward living.

    QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION

    1. Am I allowing culture or Scripture to shape my identity?
    2. Do my choices bring honor to Christ?
    3. Is my appearance helping or hindering my Christian testimony?
    4. Am I more concerned with pleasing people than pleasing God?
    5. Does my life reflect holiness both inwardly and outwardly?

    POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS

    1. Father, help me to honor You in every area of my life.
    2. Lord, renew my mind so that I will not conform to worldly patterns.
    3. Give me wisdom to make choices that glorify Christ.
    4. Let my life be a testimony that points others to Jesus.
    5. Strengthen men in the church to embrace godly character and biblical masculinity.
    6. Raise up families that model holiness and truth.
    7. Let revival begin with transformed hearts that delight in obeying Your Word.

    CALL TO ACTION

The Christian life is not about following every cultural trend; it is about following Christ. Our identity is found in Him, and every part of our lives—including our attitudes, conduct, and appearance—should reflect His lordship.
Whether you are young or old, male or female, choose to honor God above the opinions of the world. Let your life proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, and let your character shine brighter than your outward appearance.

"Holiness is not old-fashioned; it is the beauty of a life fully surrendered to God."

If you have not given your life to Jesus kindly do so by joining a Bible believing Church.

  • Excerpts from the book — The Woman Question by Caleb Eleojo

So here's the truth, everything God designed carries the principle of sustainability, growth, and fruitfulness. In creation, every living thing was made to produce — to multiply, to add value, to bring something to the table.

So a woman’s place cannot be passive. Her design, like man’s, is productive. She is meant to add — not only through childbearing, but through thought, creativity, and purpose.

And this is where many men have failed to grow. Most are not raised to marry women who mirror their strengths. They’re taught to marry someone “less” — less ambitious, less educated, less capable — because that imbalance guarantees their dominance in the household.

But this distortion cripples marriage itself because instead of two whole people forming a partnership, marriage becomes a stage where one must dim their light so the other can shine brighter. That was never God’s vision.

So marriage, at its best, is not a hierarchy but a partnership — a union where two
individuals, each strong in their own right, come together to multiply strength. A man doesn’t lose relevance because his wife is accomplished; rather he gains a partner who expands their collective influence.

And a woman doesn’t diminish when she marries; she brings the full weight of her identity into the union.

But when we fail to see women beyond marriage, society suffers. We lose innovation, leadership, and brilliance that could have transformed entire systems. And by teaching girls that their highest calling is to become wives, we waste decades of creativity and silence voices that could change the world.

So here’s the truth; a woman’s place in marriage is earned before marriage — through her independence, growth, and maturity. Whatever she builds as a provider and priest of her own life, she carries into her marriage.

Therefore, marriage, then, is not the destination — it’s the stage where everything she has built finds expression.

  • — Can A Woman, Pastor A Church || excerpts from the book - “The Woman Question”

1 Timothy 2:12 (NLT) || “I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly”.

Now this isn’t a blanket ban on women teaching since elsewhere Paul commends women like Priscilla, Phoebe, and Junia.

So Paul here is addressing a particular abuse in Ephesus — how women influenced by false doctrines were trying to dominate the men because they believed in certain false teachings that Eve was superior to Adam.

And the Greek word (authentein), as translated, assumes that authority carries a domineering, usurping, or controlling sense.

But some people, hardened in heart, might misuse the word “usurp” to argue that women were created to be under the authority of men, and that Paul was merely telling them not to rebel against that authority.

    However, this interpretation is biased, as it fails to consider a particular command given by Jesus;

Matthew 20:25–26 (ESV) || “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. Instead, whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant.”

So the scripture above is saying that there should be no attempt at control or dominance amongst you. Rather, you all (men and women now) should take on the role of servants in how you relate with one another.

Serving, not lording it over, with the gifts God has given to you.

John 13:12-14 (NLT) || “After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? [13] You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. [14] And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.”

Jesus, our Lord and Teacher, humbled Himself to take on the role of a servant — and He commanded us to do the same. Therefore, no one, whether man or woman, is meant to exercise control or lordship over others within the body of Christ.

This sheds light on the true meaning of the word “usurp”. So Paul was not concerned about women usurping the authority of men; rather, he was concerned about anyone — specifically women in that context — usurping the authority that belongs to Jesus.

For Christ has already commanded us to serve one another in humility.

To act otherwise, by being domineering or controlling, is to usurp the authority of Jesus Christ Himself.

Thus, Paul’s concern was not about women teaching or pastoring, but about a spirit of domination that replaces servanthood with self-exaltation, thereby undermining the authority of Jesus Christ.

Now if this challenged what you thought you knew, then the conversation doesn’t end here.

  • It's crazy how masculinity is considered taboo today but is necessary to produce good strong men who can and will protect their family and be a leader and ensure stability in all aspects of the household or good caring women who not only know how to look for a good man set by the example of the father but also know how to nurture and bring peace to the household set by the example of the mother. That's why men and women in a family have their roles to play. The divorce rate is sky high because you have both men and women trying to lead. Reasearch and studies show that, that doesn't work. The man(father) leads, disciplines and protects while the woman(mother) nurtures, teaches and brings peace. If both try to lead, discipline and protect then it falls apart which creates discourse and tension which leads to divorce. The femininity of men will be the downfall of good fruitful families. Also without God in the home it will all fall apart anyway, serving God as a family should be the #1 priority in a household.
