The Importance of NOT Knowing Yahwah Exodus 9:16 And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. • One of the greatest hinderances of knowing Yahwah is knowing Yahwah! • Most believers will tell you that they know Yahwah o Job 36:26 Behold, YHWH is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out. • Most religious people will tell you the same thing. Why? Because they think they know Yahwah and so they think they don’t have to know him anymore! (They already know all there is to know) o Ps 145:3 Great is YHWH, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. o Rom 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of YHWH! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! • The first title used for Yahwah in the Scriptures is Elohim (God in the KJV version) • This is a mystery word be because it is both singular and plural • Singular because Yahwah is one Elohim • Plural because there is always more to Yahwah o Always more to Him o Always more of Him to know • Do you want to know why we will be in Heaven for eternity? Because that’s how long it will take for us to know Yahwah! • Make your aim to Know Yahwah more then you ever have before! o Phil 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; o Ps 42:1-2 To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. The Story Behind the Hymns THE STORY BEHIND "GUIDE ME, O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH" Few hymns capture the journey of faith with the vividness of “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah.” Written out of the rich Welsh Christian tradition, the hymn turns the biblical story of Israel’s journey through the wilderness into a deeply personal prayer for God’s guidance, strength and provision. The original hymn was written in Welsh by William Williams Pantycelyn (1717–1791), one of the most influential hymn writers of the Welsh revival. The Welsh title, “Arglwydd, arwain trwy'r anialwch” meaning “Lord, lead me through the wilderness” first appeared in 1745. Williams drew heavily on the story of the Israelites travelling through the wilderness under God’s direction. The hymn speaks of a believer who recognises that the journey ahead cannot be completed by human strength alone. God is asked to lead, sustain and provide until the traveller reaches the promised destination. The English version familiar to congregations today came through the work of Peter Williams, who translated the hymn in 1771. It was subsequently adapted and revised in English hymnals, helping the hymn move beyond Wales and into the wider Christian world. Its imagery remains striking: the believer is a “pilgrim through this barren land,” dependent upon the “Bread of Heaven” for spiritual nourishment and upon God’s presence for every step of the journey. The hymn became especially associated with Welsh Christianity and eventually found a powerful musical setting in the tune “Cwm Rhondda,” composed by Welsh musician John Hughes in 1907. The combination of Williams’ words and Hughes’ stirring melody transformed it into one of the best-known hymns to emerge from Wales. “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah” has since been sung in churches, at major Christian gatherings, at national occasions and in moments of remembrance and celebration. MANY OF us remember singing in church, ‘Every promise in the Book is mine!’ Exciting words—but are they entirely true? If you’ve prayed for the fulfilment of a Bible promise that didn’t materialise, you may have wondered, felt disillusioned, or even stopped trusting. What’s true is that every promise in the Book intended for you, is yours! God is committed to keeping every promise He has made (Matthew 24:35). So how can you know which Bible promises are yours? Here are some scriptural guidelines to help you: 1) Be sure you understand the promise. God is committed to His Word, not to your interpretation of it. When Jesus said, ‘…Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up’ (John 2:19 NKJV), His audience completely misunderstood Him, thinking He meant the literal temple when He meant His body. 2) Walk in the Spirit, not the flesh. Walking in the Spirit, Peter received divine understanding of Christ’s deity. When Jesus asked, ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘…this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father…’ (Matthew 16:15-17 NIV). Soon afterwards, walking in the flesh, the same man totally misunderstood Jesus and was severely rebuked by Jesus (Matthew 16:21-23). Why? Because ‘…the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God…nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned’ (1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV). The Story Behind the Hymns THE STORY BEHIND "GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS" Some hymns are written in moments of triumph while others are born from the testimony of a life that has learned, through hardship and uncertainty, that God never fails. “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” is one of those hymns. In 1923, American Methodist minister Thomas Obediah Chisholm wrote words that would eventually become one of Christianity’s most cherished hymns. The hymn was not born from one spectacular miracle or a single dramatic event but grew from Chisholm’s personal experience of God’s steady care throughout his life. Born in Franklin, Kentucky, in 1866, Chisholm experienced financial difficulties and recurring health challenges. Yet, through the changing seasons of life, he became increasingly convinced that God’s faithfulness was not dependent on circumstances. His inspiration came largely from the powerful words of Lamentations 3:22–23: “It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” That biblical declaration became the foundation of his hymn. Chisholm sent the poem to his friend, William Marion Runyan, a Methodist minister and musician associated with the Moody Bible Institute. Deeply moved by the words, Runyan composed the melody that would carry the hymn into churches around the world. Then came the unforgettable opening: “Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee.” The hymn celebrates something profoundly simple: God’s character does not change. Morning after morning, His mercies are renewed. Through seasons of abundance and seasons of need, through joy and sorrow, uncertainty and hope, His faithfulness remains. That is why the hymn has endured for generations. It reminds us that we do not have to wait for a great miracle to recognize God’s goodness. Sometimes, the greatest evidence of His faithfulness is simply waking up to another morning, another day of mercy, another opportunity to trust Him. Nearly a century after Chisholm wrote those words, the hymn continues to cross generations, cultures and denominations. Its message remains as powerful today as when it was first written: God was faithful yesterday. God is faithful today. And God will be faithful tomorrow. Every new morning is another testimony. The Mice in the Piano Pastor Joseph Clark August 12, 2026 “He who denies the existence of God, has some reason for wishing that God did not exist.” —Saint Augustine “Whoever acknowledges Me before others, I will also acknowledge before My Father in heaven. But whoever disowns Me before others, I will disown before My Father in heaven.” —Matthew 10:32–33 The Mice in the Piano Once upon a time, there were two little mice. They were brothers, and they had lived their entire lives inside a piano. It was the only world they had ever known. Their parents and siblings had died of old age, leaving the two brothers as the last members of their family. They spent their days exploring their strange little world and listening in wonder to the beautiful music that constantly filled the piano. They could not see where the music came from. Their parents had taught them that the music was produced by a great and mysterious being who lived beyond their understanding—the one who played the piano. The two mice loved to think about this great player. They talked about him, wondered about him, and delighted in the beautiful music he produced. Then, one day, one of the mice went exploring. When he returned, he was thoughtful and unusually serious. “There is no great player,” he told his brother. “It is all a myth. I have seen the inside of this piano. The music is produced by wires, hammers, strings, and mechanisms. I have seen them with my own eyes!” The brothers abandoned their belief in the great player. They were convinced that they had finally discovered the truth. They understood the mechanisms of the piano, and therefore they believed they had explained away the musician. They examined the wires, hammers, strings, and mechanical workings repeatedly. The more they learned about how the piano worked, the more confident they became that there was no need to believe in a player. But they had overlooked something very important. Knowing how the piano works does not explain who is playing it. And so, while the two mice congratulated themselves on their newfound wisdom, the great player continued to play. The mice simply could not see him. The Limits of Human Understanding There is an important lesson in this little story. Human beings are intelligent. We have learned extraordinary things about the universe. We have explored the depths of the oceans, walked on the moon, examined the microscopic world, mapped the human genome, and discovered astonishing laws governing the physical universe. But our ability to understand something does not mean that we understand everything. The Bible repeatedly reminds us that humility is essential when approaching God. Jesus said: “Unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” —Matthew 18:3 He also said: “Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” —Matthew 19:14 And again: “Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” —Luke 18:17 Jesus is not telling us to abandon reason or become intellectually childish. Rather, He is calling us to humility, trust, and dependence upon God. Scripture says: “Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” —Matthew 18:4 The Christian life begins with recognizing that God is God—and we are not. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” —Ephesians 2:8 And: “The righteous shall live by faith.” —Romans 1:17 Faith is not a rejection of reason. Faith recognizes that human reason has limits. Living in a Skeptical Age In 1897, Francis Pharcellus Church wrote his famous response to eight-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon concerning her question about Santa Claus. Church observed that people can become skeptical of anything they cannot see or fully comprehend. Although Church was writing about Santa Claus—not God—the broader observation is worth considering. We live in an age that often treats what can be measured as though it were the only thing that can be real. But there are many things we accept as real without seeing them directly. We cannot see gravity. We cannot see thoughts. We cannot see love. We cannot see electricity itself. Yet we observe their effects. Likewise, Christians believe that although God cannot be placed under a microscope or reduced to a laboratory experiment, His existence can be considered through the evidence of creation, reason, morality, human consciousness, history, and ultimately the revelation of Jesus Christ. The fact that we cannot see God with our physical eyes does not prove that God does not exist. The mice could not see the piano player either. That did not mean he wasn't there. When People Mock Our Faith A close friend of mine, an Archbishop, once told me a humorous story from his childhood. He had been at a park with his mother when he ran over excitedly and told her that the sun was actually a star and that the stars in the sky were also suns. His mother, apparently overwhelmed by the complexity of the information, responded with a blunt declaration that, in essence, the sun was the sun and the stars were the stars—and that was the end of the discussion! Sometimes we can become uncomfortable when someone challenges what we believe. That is particularly true when people we respect dismiss Christianity as foolishness. Richard Dawkins, Woody Allen, Isaac Asimov, Mark Twain, Carl Sagan, and many others have expressed skepticism toward Christianity or belief in God. But Christians should not respond with anger or hatred. We should respond with grace. Forgive them. Pray for them. Love them. And share the Gospel with them. The Apostle Peter instructed Christians: “Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you for the reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” —1 Peter 3:15 That is an important distinction. We are called to defend the faith, but we are not called to be quarrelsome. Jesus said: “If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.” —Matthew 10:14 And He warned: “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls before swine.” —Matthew 7:6 There comes a time when we must recognize that arguing louder will not make someone believe. Our responsibility is to faithfully proclaim Christ. The Holy Spirit is responsible for changing hearts. What About Suffering? One of the most common objections to belief in God is the existence of suffering. People ask: “How can I believe in a loving God when there is so much suffering in the world?” This is a serious question, and Christians should never dismiss it with a shallow answer. The Bible itself contains people crying out to God in the midst of suffering. Job asked difficult questions. David cried out in the Psalms. Even Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus. Christianity does not pretend that suffering is imaginary. Instead, Christianity tells us that suffering exists in a fallen world and that God entered that suffering Himself through Jesus Christ. The cross is Christianity's answer to the claim that God is indifferent to human suffering. God did not remain distant from our pain. He entered our world. He suffered. He died. And He rose again. The Apostle Paul writes: “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” —Romans 8:18 C.S. Lewis famously described pain as God's “megaphone” to a deaf world. Suffering does not prove that God does not exist. For many people, suffering instead becomes the very circumstance that drives them to ask the deepest questions about meaning, morality, mortality, and God. What About Hell? Another question frequently asked is: “How can a loving God send people to Hell?” The Christian answer begins with the extraordinary love of God. Jesus said: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” —John 3:16 God offers salvation freely through Christ. The Gospel is not a message that God delights in condemning people. It is a message that God has provided a way of salvation. Jesus came to seek and save the lost. The seriousness of judgment is precisely what makes the offer of salvation so important. God does not force anyone to love Him. The Gospel calls us to repent, believe, and receive the grace of God. Faith and the Evidence of Creation The universe raises enormous questions. Why is there something rather than nothing? Why does the universe possess order? Why are the laws of nature intelligible? Why does human consciousness exist? Why do human beings possess an awareness of moral obligation? Science can investigate how many things work. But questions concerning ultimate meaning and purpose extend beyond the laboratory. The Christian does not believe that science is the enemy of faith. Quite the opposite. The universe is intelligible because Christians believe it was created by an intelligent God. The laws of nature can be investigated because Christians believe those laws reflect an ordered creation. The human capacity to reason can be used to explore the universe because Christians believe human beings were created by God. Science can tell us much about the mechanisms of the piano. But science alone cannot answer the question: Who is playing the music? Believers in the Scientific Community Christianity has never belonged exclusively to the uneducated or uninformed. Throughout history, many highly accomplished scientists have believed in God. Among them are figures such as: Isaac Newton, whose work transformed physics and mathematics. James Clerk Maxwell, one of the great figures in electromagnetic theory. Gregor Mendel, whose experiments established foundational principles of genetics and who was also an Augustinian friar. Georges Lemaître, a Catholic priest and physicist whose work on an expanding universe helped establish the foundation of what became known as Big Bang cosmology. Francis Collins, physician-geneticist and former director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, who has publicly identified as a Christian. Charles Townes, Nobel Prize-winning physicist and inventor of the maser and co-inventor of the laser, who was an openly religious Christian. These examples do not prove Christianity simply because these scientists believed. But they do demonstrate something important: Faith in God is not incompatible with intellectual achievement. A person does not have to abandon intelligence in order to believe in God. Nor does becoming a Christian require someone to stop asking questions. Christians should welcome honest questions. The Problem With the Piano Mice The two mice made a fundamental mistake. They confused an explanation of the mechanism with an explanation of the ultimate cause. They discovered the wires. They discovered the hammers. They discovered the strings. They discovered the machinery. And then they concluded: “Therefore, there is no piano player.” But that conclusion did not logically follow from their discovery. In fact, their discovery of the piano's complexity could have led them to ask an entirely different question: Who designed this? And that is the question we must ultimately ask about our universe. Where did everything come from? Why is there something rather than nothing? Why does the universe operate according to discoverable laws? Why does consciousness exist? Why do we have an innate sense that some things are genuinely right and others genuinely wrong? And perhaps the greatest question of all: Who are we, and why are we here? The Christian answer is that we are creatures made by our Creator. We are not accidents without purpose. We were created by God, for God, and ultimately for relationship with Him. We Are the Mice There is another lesson in the story that we must not miss. Perhaps the greatest danger is not being ignorant. Perhaps it is believing that we know everything. We are the mice in the piano. We live inside a universe vastly larger and more complicated than our minds can fully comprehend. We see only a fraction of reality. We understand only a fraction of what exists. And yet we sometimes look at the small portion we understand and confidently declare that nothing exists beyond it. The Bible reminds us: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the LORD.” —Isaiah 55:8 And: “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and how inscrutable His ways!” —Romans 11:33 The proper response to a God who is greater than our understanding is not arrogance. It is humility. It is worship. It is faith. The Music Continues The two mice eventually stopped believing in the piano player. They became convinced that they had explained everything. But outside their tiny world, the musician continued to play. The music never stopped. The fact that they could not see him did not mean he was absent. And perhaps that is where many people find themselves today. They have examined the mechanisms of the universe. They have learned about physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and astronomy. They have become fascinated by the machinery. But they have never stopped to ask whether there is a Creator behind it all. The Christian message is that there is. His name is Jesus Christ. He is not merely an idea, a philosophy, or a comforting story. He is the Son of God who entered human history, died for our sins, and rose from the grave. And He calls every one of us to respond. Jesus said: “Whoever acknowledges Me before others, I will also acknowledge before My Father in heaven.” —Matthew 10:32 The question is not merely whether we believe that God exists. The deeper question is: What will we do with Jesus Christ? The piano is playing. The music is all around us. The question is whether we will remain convinced that there is nothing beyond the wires and hammers—or whether we will humble ourselves, listen carefully, and seek the One who is playing the music. The Story Behind the Hymns. THE STORY BEHIND “NEARER, MY GOD, TO THEE” When the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg and began its final descent into the North Atlantic on April 15, 1912, the ship’s musicians continued playing as passengers faced the unfolding tragedy. Among the hymns associated with those final moments was “Nearer, My God, to Thee.” The image of the hymn being played as the great ship disappeared into the darkness has become one of the most enduring stories connected with the hymn. Its words, centred on drawing closer to God even in the face of suffering and death, gave the moment a profound spiritual significance. The hymn’s opening lines express that longing: “Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee! E’en though it be a cross That raiseth me…” However, the story of “Nearer, My God, to Thee” began long before the Titanic. The words were written by Sarah Flower Adams, an English poet, in 1841. Adams drew her inspiration from the biblical story of Jacob’s dream at Bethel, recorded in Genesis 28. According to the biblical account, Jacob was travelling away from home when he stopped to sleep. During the night, he dreamed of a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, with angels ascending and descending upon it. God spoke to Jacob and reassured him of His presence and promises. Inspired by this powerful encounter, Adams wrote “Nearer, My God, to Thee” as a prayer expressing the desire to remain close to God through every circumstance of life, even through hardship, sorrow and death. The hymn was later set to several melodies. The tune most commonly associated with it today is “Bethany,” composed by American church musician Lowell Mason and published in 1856. Over the generations, the hymn became a treasured part of Christian worship, particularly in moments of grief, farewell and personal trial. Its message is timeless: circumstances may change, suffering may come, and the journey may become difficult, but the believer can continually seek the presence of God. More than 180 years after Sarah Flower Adams wrote its words, and more than a century after its association with the Titanic, “Nearer, My God, to Thee” continues to be sung around the world. At its heart is a simple prayer: Nearer to God, through every step, every struggle and every season of life.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths._ ( Proverbs 3:5–6) *INTRODUCTION* During the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge (1933–1937), many workers initially feared working hundreds of feet above the water. After several fatal accidents, engineers installed a massive safety net beneath the bridge. Although the net cost a significant amount of money, it saved many lives and gave workers greater confidence to continue their work. What seemed restrictive actually became a means of preservation. Similarly, God's discipline and correction may appear unpleasant or restrictive, but they are expressions of His wisdom and love. Isaiah 28 addresses Judah's misplaced confidence in political alliances rather than in God. Through the prophet, the Lord warned that every false refuge would fail, yet He also revealed that His judgments are purposeful, measured and redemptive. The illustration of the farmer (vv. 23–29) teaches that just as a skilled farmer knows the proper method and timing for cultivating each crop, God perfectly knows how to deal with His people. *For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.* (Hebrews 12:6) God's discipline is never arbitrary; it is guided by infinite wisdom and aimed at producing righteousness. Our heavenly Father knows every detail of our lives. He knows when to comfort, when to correct, when to wait and when to act. What may seem confusing or painful to us is never without purpose in His hands. Sometimes God allows difficult seasons to break the hard soil of pride. At other times He plants seeds of truth, waters them with His grace and patiently waits for spiritual fruit. Even His discipline is measured by perfect wisdom and infinite love. Therefore, let us not resist His work, but submit to it. Let us abandon every false refuge and place our complete confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ—the sure foundation that will never fail. As we trust Him, we will discover that His wisdom is flawless, His discipline is loving and His purposes are always for our good and His glory. *1. The Collapse of False Confidence* a. Judah trusted in deceptive alliances instead of depending on God. Their "covenant with death" would be annulled because no human refuge can replace God's protection. The Bible says: *Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.*(Psalm 20:7) Isaiah describes a bed too short and a covering too narrow, illustrating the insufficiency of human solutions. b. God's judgment is described as His "unusual work," showing that while He is just, He takes no delight in punishing His people. When we build our lives on wealth, influence, intellect or human security instead of Christ, disappointment is inevitable. *Questions* (i) What am I trusting most for my security—God or human resources? (ii) Have I built my life upon Christ, the only sure foundation? *2. The Counsel of Perfect Wisdom* a. Isaiah invites the people to observe the wisdom of a farmer who works with understanding. The farmer knows when to plow, sow and cultivate because God teaches him. The farmer does not plow endlessly; each season has its purpose. *“To everything there is a season.”* (Ecclesiastes 3:1) b. Every action is intended to produce a fruitful harvest. *“No chastening seems to be joyful... nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness.”* (Hebrews 12:11). God knows exactly what we need and when we need it. His timing and methods are always perfect. *Questions* (i) Am I patiently submitting to God's process even when I do not fully understand it? (ii) Do I seek God's wisdom before making important decisions? *3. The Compassion of God's Discipline* a. Our text concludes with the illustration that different crops require different methods of threshing, demonstrating God's wisdom and moderation. The farmer adjusts his methods according to the crop. Likewise, God disciplines each believer wisely and appropriately. God never disciplines beyond what is necessary to accomplish His purpose. b. Isaiah concludes by praising God's wonderful counsel and excellent wisdom. Even when God's dealings are difficult to understand, we can trust that they are always governed by love, wisdom and grace. *Questions* (i) Do I view God's discipline as punishment or as a loving correction designed for my growth? (ii) Am I willing to let God shape my character through His refining work? *Prayer Points* 1. Lord, help me to place my confidence entirely in You and not in human strength or worldly security.🙏 2. The husbandman (farmer) does his work with pains and prudence and handles the plants according to their nature. The Almighty God who gives men this great wisdom is wonderful in counsel and excellent in His working.* *Afflictions are God's threshing instruments to loosen us from the world, to part between us and our chaff, and to prepare us for use. As the occasion requires, the Lord warns, corrects, spares, shows mercy or executes vengeance. How we need to heed God's warning today and not to trust in anything outside Christ. It takes trust and diligence to please God. The children of Israel were once slaves in Egypt. God then led them out of slavery through Moses their leader. Independence means freedom to exercise your human rights. This is the physical meaning. In the spiritual, it is different. Independence means total deliverance from sin and all its influence. No one can become free without knowing and accepting the Truth. This Truth is God's word, which Jesus represents. Jesus is the word of God that was from the beginning, and is forever. *To be free therefore, a sinner must take these steps: Acknowledge his sinfulness. Repent and confess his sins to God. Pray for forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. You wonder why you lived so long with it weighing you down. It’s the same with mental and emotional clutter. Jon Gordon says, ‘We fill our minds with thoughts that hold us back, habits that limit us, distractions that derail us, negative people who drain us, fear that paralyses us, time-sappers that sabotage our productivity. We spend so much time and energy on things that don’t matter—we fail to focus on what does matter. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths._ ( Proverbs 3:5–6) *INTRODUCTION* During the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge (1933–1937), many workers initially feared working hundreds of feet above the water. After several fatal accidents, engineers installed a massive safety net beneath the bridge. Although the net cost a significant amount of money, it saved many lives and gave workers greater confidence to continue their work. What seemed restrictive actually became a means of preservation. Similarly, God's discipline and correction may appear unpleasant or restrictive, but they are expressions of His wisdom and love. Isaiah 28 addresses Judah's misplaced confidence in political alliances rather than in God. Through the prophet, the Lord warned that every false refuge would fail, yet He also revealed that His judgments are purposeful, measured and redemptive. The illustration of the farmer (vv. 23–29) teaches that just as a skilled farmer knows the proper method and timing for cultivating each crop, God perfectly knows how to deal with His people. *For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.* (Hebrews 12:6) God's discipline is never arbitrary; it is guided by infinite wisdom and aimed at producing righteousness. Our heavenly Father knows every detail of our lives. He knows when to comfort, when to correct, when to wait and when to act. What may seem confusing or painful to us is never without purpose in His hands. Sometimes God allows difficult seasons to break the hard soil of pride. At other times He plants seeds of truth, waters them with His grace and patiently waits for spiritual fruit. Even His discipline is measured by perfect wisdom and infinite love. Therefore, let us not resist His work, but submit to it. Let us abandon every false refuge and place our complete confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ—the sure foundation that will never fail. As we trust Him, we will discover that His wisdom is flawless, His discipline is loving and His purposes are always for our good and His glory. *1. The Collapse of False Confidence* a. Judah trusted in deceptive alliances instead of depending on God. Their "covenant with death" would be annulled because no human refuge can replace God's protection. The Bible says: *Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.*(Psalm 20:7) Isaiah describes a bed too short and a covering too narrow, illustrating the insufficiency of human solutions. b. God's judgment is described as His "unusual work," showing that while He is just, He takes no delight in punishing His people. When we build our lives on wealth, influence, intellect or human security instead of Christ, disappointment is inevitable. *Questions* (i) What am I trusting most for my security—God or human resources? (ii) Have I built my life upon Christ, the only sure foundation? *2. The Counsel of Perfect Wisdom* a. Isaiah invites the people to observe the wisdom of a farmer who works with understanding. The farmer knows when to plow, sow and cultivate because God teaches him. The farmer does not plow endlessly; each season has its purpose. *“To everything there is a season.”* (Ecclesiastes 3:1) b. Every action is intended to produce a fruitful harvest. *“No chastening seems to be joyful... nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness.”* (Hebrews 12:11). God knows exactly what we need and when we need it. His timing and methods are always perfect. *Questions* (i) Am I patiently submitting to God's process even when I do not fully understand it? (ii) Do I seek God's wisdom before making important decisions? *3. The Compassion of God's Discipline* a. Our text concludes with the illustration that different crops require different methods of threshing, demonstrating God's wisdom and moderation. The farmer adjusts his methods according to the crop. Likewise, God disciplines each believer wisely and appropriately. God never disciplines beyond what is necessary to accomplish His purpose. b. Isaiah concludes by praising God's wonderful counsel and excellent wisdom. Even when God's dealings are difficult to understand, we can trust that they are always governed by love, wisdom and grace. *Questions* (i) Do I view God's discipline as punishment or as a loving correction designed for my growth? The Almighty God who gives men this great wisdom is wonderful in counsel and excellent in His working.* *Afflictions are God's threshing instruments to loosen us from the world, to part between us and our chaff, and to prepare us for use. As the occasion requires, the Lord warns, corrects, spares, shows mercy or executes vengeance. How we need to heed God's warning today and not to trust in anything outside Christ. It takes trust and diligence to please God. We spend so much time and energy on things that don’t matter—we fail to focus on what does matter. It is like a ritual that is observed in commemoration of their independence from colonial or oppressive masters. Each country has her special day of the year to celebrate its independence. The children of Israel were once slaves in Egypt. God then led them out of slavery through Moses their leader. Independence means freedom to exercise your human rights. This is the physical meaning. In the spiritual, it is different. Independence means total deliverance from sin and all its influence. No one can become free without knowing and accepting the Truth. This Truth is God's word, which Jesus represents. Jesus is the word of God that was from the beginning, and is forever. *To be free therefore, a sinner must take these steps: Acknowledge his sinfulness. Repent and confess his sins to God. Pray for forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Ask Jesus into your heart to be your personal Saviour and Lord.* *Continue with the Truth that sets free by praying every day, reading, meditating on and obeying God's word.
