The Story of Abraham in the Bible

Introduction

Abraham is one of the most important people in the Bible. He is remembered as a man of faith, obedience, and trust in God. His story is found mainly in the book of Genesis, chapters 12–25.

Abraham was originally called Abram. God called him to leave his homeland and go to a land that God would show him. God promised to make him a great nation and to bless all the families of the earth through him.

God Calls Abraham

One day, God spoke to Abram and said:

«“Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.”»

God promised Abram that He would make him into a great nation, bless him, make his name great, and make him a blessing to others.

Abram obeyed God. He left his homeland with his wife, Sarai, and his nephew Lot, and they traveled toward the land of Canaan.

When Abram arrived in Canaan, God appeared to him and promised to give that land to his descendants.

Abraham and Lot

As Abram and Lot became wealthy, their servants began arguing because there was not enough land for all their animals.

Abram did not want conflict. He gave Lot the opportunity to choose where he wanted to live.

Lot chose the fertile area near Sodom, while Abram remained in the land of Canaan.

After Lot separated from him, God renewed His promise to Abram. God told him that his descendants would be as numerous as the dust of the earth.

God Promises a Son

Although Abram was growing older, he still had no child. He wondered how God's promise of a great nation could come true.

God told him that he would have a son of his own and that his descendants would be extremely numerous.

Abram believed God, and the Bible says that his faith was counted to him as righteousness.

God also changed his name from Abram to Abraham, meaning “father of a multitude,” and changed Sarai's name to Sarah.

The Birth of Isaac

Abraham and Sarah waited many years for the promised child.

When Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was very old, God fulfilled His promise. Sarah gave birth to a son, and they named him Isaac.

The birth of Isaac brought great joy to Abraham and Sarah because God had kept His promise despite the long years of waiting.

Abraham Is Tested

One of the greatest tests of Abraham's faith came when God commanded him to offer Isaac as a sacrifice.

Abraham obeyed and took Isaac to the place God had shown him. Isaac did not understand what was going to happen, but Abraham continued in faith.

Just as Abraham was about to sacrifice his son, an angel of the Lord stopped him.

God provided a ram caught in a thicket as a sacrifice instead.

Through this test, Abraham demonstrated his willingness to trust and obey God even when he did not understand God's plan.

God then reaffirmed His promise to bless Abraham and multiply his descendants.

Abraham's Later Years

Abraham continued to live as a man of faith. After Sarah died, he made arrangements for her burial.

Abraham later married Keturah and had more children, but Isaac remained the son through whom God's covenant promise would continue.

Abraham eventually died at the age of 175. His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him beside Sarah.

The Legacy of Abraham

Abraham's story is one of faith and obedience. He did not always understand what God was doing, but he continued to trust God's promises.

His life teaches us several important lessons:

1. Trust God even when you cannot see the whole plan.
2. Obey God when He calls you to something difficult.
3. Be patient while waiting for God's promises.
4. Faith sometimes requires sacrifice.
5. God is faithful to His promises.

Abraham became known as a great man of faith, and his story continues to inspire millions of people around the world.

The story of Abraham reminds us that when God makes a promise, we can trust Him—even when the answer takes longer than we expected.

Good morning everyone. today is God’s day. well let’s be honest, EVERYDAY is God’s day.
Ya know sometimes we forget that our purpose is serve God, not man. Matthew 22:37 says “And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
‭‭ How often do we forget that we are to love the lord with all our heart? how many times do we simply forget to say thank you?
In this day and age, it’s so easy to get caught up in the worries and stresses of the world. It simple to just live our daily lives as we are use to it. But if anything changes, we are knocked off gaurd. we have to readjust to allow the change to happen and to also adapt it into our lives. But during that process, we slip away from recognizing God and all he has given us. Without him, we wouldn’t have any of the things he has given us.
In conclusion, don’t let the things of this world, the constant changes in life, deter you from showing your love to God daily. Don’t let changes eliminate much needed time with God. he is our supplier, our provider, and our savior. Every moment you get, give him praise and continually trust him. he deserves so much more than we can give. Have a blessed day.

Daily Devotion — August 27 | Acts 21:33 (NKJV)

God Is in Control Even in Trials

Acts 21 records Paul's arrest in Jerusalem after an angry crowd falsely accused him. Before the situation became even more violent, the Roman commander intervened and had Paul bound with two chains. Although Paul appeared to be a prisoner, God was still carrying out His perfect plan. This arrest became the beginning of Paul's testimony before rulers, governors, and kings, just as the Lord had promised.

From a human perspective, Paul's circumstances seemed discouraging. Yet God was using this difficult moment to open doors for the gospel that would not have existed otherwise. What looked like defeat was actually part of God's greater purpose.

For believers today, this passage reminds us that God remains in control even when our lives take unexpected turns. Trials do not mean God has abandoned us. Often, He is preparing opportunities for His glory that we cannot yet see. We can trust Him because His plans are always good and His purposes never fail.

1. Do I trust God when life does not go as I expected?

2. How has God used difficult circumstances for good in my life?

3. How can I remain faithful during seasons of uncertainty?

Prayer

Lord God, thank You that You are always in control, even when my circumstances seem confusing. Help me to trust Your plan and remain faithful during every trial. Give me peace, knowing that You are working all things together for Your glory and my good. In Jesus name Amen.

Practical Application

● Trust God's purpose even during difficult circumstances.

● Pray for faith instead of giving in to fear.

● Look for opportunities to honor Christ in every situation.

DBF-001-034 continues with John 2:13. John now moves from the quiet days in Capernaum to Jerusalem at Passover. This verse begins an important change of scene that will reveal Christ’s concern for the holiness of His Father’s house.

Today’s Scripture

John 2:13 (ESV)

“The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.”

Opening the Scriptures

Jesus had spent a few days in Capernaum with His mother, His brothers, and His disciples.

Now John takes us to Jerusalem.

The reason was Passover.

Passover was one of Israel’s great appointed feasts. It looked back to the time when God delivered His people from slavery in Egypt. On that first Passover night, judgment came upon Egypt, while the Israelites were protected according to God’s command concerning the blood of the Passover lamb.

Generation after generation remembered God’s mighty act of deliverance.

Now Jesus Himself was going to Jerusalem for Passover.

John has already introduced Him with the remarkable words of John the Baptist:

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

The full significance of those words has not yet unfolded.

But John is directing our attention toward Christ.

Living God’s Word Today

Passover reminded Israel that deliverance came from God.

That remains an essential truth for us.

Human beings naturally want to contribute something toward their acceptance before God.

We trust our morality.

We remember our good deeds.

We compare ourselves with people whom we consider worse than ourselves.

We may even trust our church attendance, religious service, or knowledge of Scripture.

But none of these things can remove our sin.

Salvation belongs to the Lord.

The Passover pointed backward to God’s deliverance from Egypt, but it also helps us understand the greater deliverance accomplished through Jesus Christ.

The New Testament identifies Christ as our Passover Lamb.

He did what we could never do for ourselves.

He lived without sin.

He willingly went to the cross.

He bore the judgment deserved by sinners.

He rose from the dead.

Our hope before God therefore rests not upon the strength of our religious performance but upon the finished work of Jesus Christ.

This should also produce humility.

We cannot boast about rescuing ourselves.

We cannot look down upon another sinner as though we earned our place before God.

If we are saved, we are recipients of grace.

Jesus was traveling toward Jerusalem.

The disciples could not yet understand everything that Jerusalem would eventually mean.

But the Lamb of God was moving according to His Father’s purpose.

Today, remember where your confidence must rest.

Not in yourself.

Not in your goodness.

Not in your religious activity.

In Christ alone.

Question for Today

What are you trusting in for your acceptance before a holy God?

Respond: “My hope is in Jesus Christ alone.”

No one “likes” to go through hard times, nor do they wish for a “bad day,” but it is through life’s toughest battles that you’ll receive some of your biggest blessings. It is when the rent is due, the baby is sick, you lost your job, or your friend betrayed you that you’ll lean on God the most! Leaning on the everlasting arms of Jesus is a great place to be! WHAT GOD DOES REMAINS

Ecclesiastes 3:14

"I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him."

Ecclesiastes reflects on God's works and the limitations of humankind. God acts according to His wisdom and purpose, while humanity has no control over time or circumstances.

What God establishes does not need human striving to endure. God's work possesses a solidity that time can never destroy.

We sometimes want to add to, correct, or hasten what God is doing. Yet, faith also knows how to wait and let God complete His work.

At that moment, the promise is reassuring: if God is truly the originator of something, time will not undo it.

Don't rush what God is building. Do your part faithfully, then let God do His. Focus less on controlling the results and more on walking in His will.

May the Lord teach us to trust in His work. May He give us the patience not to rush His plans and the faith to believe that what God has established will remain in the name of Jesus.

Solomon reminds us that generations and circumstances change, but the patterns of life continually repeat themselves under God’s sovereign watch. Nothing catches God by surprise, and nothing that seems forgotten or lost escapes His attention. We may not always understand His timing or purposes, but we can trust that God sees the whole picture when we see only a small part. Times change, circumstances change, but God remains firmly in control.

GOD'S WORD FOR THE DAY

“God Is Greater Than Our Understanding”

Job 12:13

“With God are wisdom and might; He has counsel and understanding.”

This is the Word of God. Job 12 reminds us that God possesses wisdom and understanding far beyond human knowledge. Job was suffering deeply, yet he recognized that God remained sovereign and wise even when he could not understand what was happening.

There are times when life brings questions for which we have no answers. We may wonder why God allows certain things to happen or why our prayers seem unanswered. In such moments, we may not understand God's ways, but we can still trust His wisdom.

Our limited understanding sees only a small part of the story, while God sees the beginning, the middle, and the end. Faith means trusting Him even when we cannot see the whole picture.

May God give us humble hearts that trust His wisdom, especially when we do not understand His ways, and help us rest confidently in His sovereign care. Amen.

THANKFUL THURSDAY MORNING PRAYER!
“O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” — Psalm 107:1 (KJV)
Heavenly Father, in the mighty and precious name of Jesus, we come before You this Thursday morning with grateful hearts.
Before we ask You for anything, we simply want to say THANK YOU!
Thank You for waking us up this morning. Thank You for another day of life. Thank You for breath in our bodies, strength to rise, and another opportunity to experience Your grace and mercy.
Your Word declares:
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24 (KJV)
Lord, everything may not be the way we want it to be, but You are still good.
Some of us woke up carrying burdens nobody knows about. Some are worried about their families. Some are concerned about their health. Some are struggling financially. Some are grieving the loss of someone they love. Some are dealing with problems in their marriages and relationships. Some are concerned about their children. Some are waiting on employment or a better opportunity. Some are fighting battles in their minds. And some are simply tired from everything life has brought their way.
But this morning, we choose gratitude over complaining, faith over fear, and worship over worry.
Your Word tells us:
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)
Father, thank You for the prayers You have answered, and thank You for the prayers where the answer is still on the way.
Thank You for the doors You opened, and thank You for the doors You closed because You knew what was on the other side.
Thank You for what You allowed, and thank You for what You prevented.
Thank You for protecting us from dangers seen and unseen.
Thank You for the times we didn't know how we were going to make it—but somehow You made a way!
Lord, somebody needs healing this morning. Touch bodies from the crowns of their heads to the soles of their feet. Strengthen those who are weak. Comfort those experiencing pain. Bring peace to troubled minds and encouragement to discouraged hearts.
For Your Word declares:
“For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD.” — Jeremiah 30:17 (KJV)
Father, remember those who are grieving. When the house feels different, when memories bring tears, and when loneliness becomes overwhelming, wrap Your loving arms around them.
Remind them:
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” — Matthew 5:4 (KJV)
Lord, bless our families. Restore broken relationships. Bring parents and children together. Strengthen marriages. Heal misunderstandings between siblings. Remove bitterness, unforgiveness, jealousy, division, and confusion.
Teach us to love one another, forgive one another, pray for one another, and appreciate one another while we still have the opportunity.
Father, somebody is worried about finances. Bills are due. Prices are high. Resources may be limited. Someone needs employment, a promotion, increased income, or simply enough to make it through.
But we stand upon Your Word:
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:19 (KJV)
Provide, Lord. Open doors. Give wisdom concerning finances. Create opportunities that no person can shut.
Father, we pray for those struggling silently with anxiety, fear, depression, loneliness, disappointment, and discouragement.
Your Word says:
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
So this morning, we give You what we cannot carry.
We give You our children.
We give You our marriages.
We give You our health.
We give You our finances.
We give You our careers.
We give You our unanswered questions.
We give You our fears about tomorrow.
Lord, we put it all in Your hands!
Father, draw those who do not know Jesus into a saving relationship with You. Let hearts be softened, lives transformed, and souls saved. Restore those who have walked away and remind them that there is still room at Your table.
And Lord, as we go through this Thursday, order our steps.
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” — Psalm 37:23 (KJV)
Go before us into every workplace, classroom, hospital room, doctor's office, courtroom, meeting, highway, and home.
Protect those traveling.
Give wisdom to those making difficult decisions.
Give strength to caregivers.
Give peace to families facing uncertainty.
Give hope to those waiting for an answer.
Give courage to those beginning again.
And give endurance to those who are simply trying to make it through another day.
Most of all, Lord, keep us thankful.
When we are tempted to focus on what we don't have, remind us of what You have already provided.
When we become discouraged by how far we still have to go, remind us how far You have already brought us.
When life becomes difficult, remind us that we are never walking alone.
“For he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” — Hebrews 13:5 (KJV)
So today we declare:
THANK YOU, LORD, FOR LIFE!
THANK YOU FOR GRACE!
THANK YOU FOR MERCY!
THANK YOU FOR PROTECTION!

Let this Thankful Thursday be filled with peace in our minds, joy in our hearts, strength in our bodies, love in our homes, provision for our needs, and the presence of God everywhere we go.
