The Bible’s Big Story The Bible is one unified book telling the story of God’s glory through creation, humanity’s rebellion, God’s covenant promises, and their complete fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Everything moves toward Christ’s preeminence. The Old Testament prepares the way; the New Testament reveals Him as the fulfillment. Together they form 66 inspired books—39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New. The Old Testament (39 Books): God’s Promises and Preparation The Old Testament shows God creating the world, choosing a people, giving them His law, and promising a coming King who would fix what sin broke. It repeatedly points forward to the Messiah. Law (Pentateuch – 5 books): Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. These lay the foundation. Genesis shows creation, the fall, and God’s first promises. Exodus–Deuteronomy record God’s rescue of Israel from Egypt, the giving of the Torah at Sinai, and the covenant instructions for a holy people. Historical Books (12 books): Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1–2 Samuel, 1–2 Kings, 1–2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther. They trace Israel’s life in the Promised Land, their cycles of obedience and rebellion, the rise and fall of the monarchy, exile in Babylon, and return. They demonstrate that human kings fail, but God remains faithful to His promises. Wisdom and Poetry (5 books): Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon. These teach how to live wisely under God’s rule. They explore suffering, worship, daily righteousness, the emptiness of life without God, and the beauty of covenant love. Prophets (17 books): Major Prophets (5): Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel. Minor Prophets (12): Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi. The prophets confront idolatry, call for repentance, warn of judgment, and repeatedly promise a coming Deliverer, a new covenant, and a kingdom that will never end. The entire Old Testament builds expectation: a seed of the woman, a descendant of Abraham, a prophet like Moses, a son of David, a suffering servant, and a King who will reign forever. The New Testament (27 Books): Christ’s Arrival and the New Creation The New Testament announces that Jesus is the promised King. He is the preeminent One in whom all God’s promises find their “Yes” (2 Corinthians 1:20). It shows His life, death, resurrection, the birth of the church, and the final renewal of all things. Gospels (4 books): Matthew, Mark, Luke, John. These present Jesus from four angles: as King (Matthew), servant (Mark), perfect man (Luke), and eternal God (John). They record His teaching, miracles, crucifixion for sins, and resurrection. History (1 book): Acts. Luke’s second volume shows the Holy Spirit empowering the early church to take the gospel from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. It records the rapid spread of the message that Jesus is Lord. Letters (21 books): Paul’s Letters (13): Romans, 1–2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1–2 Thessalonians, 1–2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon. These explain the gospel, the meaning of Christ’s work, how the church should live, and how believers stand secure in Him. General Letters (8): Hebrews, James, 1–2 Peter, 1–3 John, Jude. These encourage perseverance, warn against false teaching, and call for holy living. Prophecy (1 book): Revelation. This apocalyptic letter reveals Christ as the victorious Lamb and coming King. It comforts suffering believers and shows the final defeat of evil and the making of a new heaven and new earth. How the Two Testaments Fit Together The Old Testament is not obsolete. Jesus said He came to fulfill it, not abolish it (Matthew 5:17). The New Testament constantly quotes and explains the Old, showing that Christ is the true temple, the better Moses, the perfect high priest, the faithful Israel, and the eternal King. Everything in the Bible centers on the supremacy and preeminence of Christ that we have been studying in Colossians 1. He is the goal of the Old Testament promises and the living reality of the New Testament gospel. The whole book calls you to trust Him, repent of sin, and live under His rule until He returns. 📌 Today's Readings are from the Book of 2 Kings 17–18 | Galatians 4 📌 👇 Overviews Are Below (PLEASE READ YOUR BIBLE: Overviews Do Not Replace Daily Reading) 👇 2 Kings 17 The Consequences of Persistent Rebellion 2 Kings 17 records one of the most significant turning points in the history of God's people—the fall of the northern kingdom of Israel to Assyria. After generations of rejecting the Lord, the nation experiences the judgment that God had repeatedly warned would come through His prophets. The chapter is not simply a historical account of military defeat; it is a theological explanation of why the nation fell. The final king of Israel reigns during a time when Assyria grows increasingly powerful. Eventually, Samaria is besieged, the people are carried into exile, and the northern kingdom comes to an end. Yet the inspired writer makes it clear that Assyria is only the instrument. The true reason for Israel's downfall is persistent covenant unfaithfulness. The chapter pauses to explain Israel's long history of rebellion. Despite God's continual faithfulness, the people repeatedly chose idolatry, ignored His commandments, rejected His prophets, and followed the practices of the surrounding nations. Again and again, the Lord patiently called them to repentance. He warned them through Elijah, Elisha, Amos, Hosea, and many other prophets. Yet they hardened their hearts and refused to return. God's judgment, therefore, is not sudden or unfair. It comes only after centuries of patience and repeated opportunities for repentance. The exile demonstrates that God's holiness requires Him to deal with sin while His patience reveals His desire to save rather than destroy. The chapter concludes by describing the resettlement of the land by foreign peoples who adopt a mixture of pagan worship and limited acknowledgment of the Lord. This blending of truth and idolatry becomes another reminder that God desires wholehearted devotion rather than divided allegiance. Theologically, 2 Kings 17 reveals both God's justice and His extraordinary patience. The Lord faithfully keeps both His promises of blessing for obedience and His warnings of judgment for persistent rebellion. The chapter also demonstrates that outward religion without genuine faithfulness can never substitute for wholehearted obedience. This chapter points to Christ, who bore the judgment that sinful humanity deserved. Israel experienced exile because of covenant unfaithfulness, but Jesus endured separation and judgment on the cross so that those who trust Him might be reconciled to God forever. Through Christ, believers are brought into a new covenant founded upon His perfect obedience rather than their own. For believers today, 2 Kings 17 reminds us not to take God's patience for granted. His mercy invites repentance, not complacency. We are called to reject every form of idolatry and remain wholly devoted to the Lord. In Christ, we have received grace beyond measure, and our response should be faithful obedience flowing from grateful hearts. 2 Kings 18 Trusting God Above Every Earthly Power 2 Kings 18 introduces the reign of Hezekiah, one of Judah's most faithful kings. In sharp contrast to many of his predecessors, Hezekiah wholeheartedly seeks the Lord and leads the nation through a season of genuine spiritual reform. He removes idols, destroys the high places, and restores proper worship according to God's Word. His leadership demonstrates that true revival begins when God's people return to wholehearted obedience. The chapter emphasizes that Hezekiah trusted the Lord with exceptional faith. Rather than simply maintaining religious traditions, he actively removed everything that competed with God's rightful place in the nation. Even objects that had once served a legitimate purpose were removed when they became idols. His actions remind us that anything replacing devotion to God must be surrendered, regardless of its history or significance. Because of Hezekiah's faithfulness, God blesses his reign. Yet obedience does not eliminate opposition. The powerful Assyrian Empire eventually invades Judah, placing enormous pressure upon the nation. Humanly speaking, Judah appears defenseless against such overwhelming military strength. The Assyrian commander attempts to undermine Judah's confidence through intimidation and deception. He mocks Hezekiah's trust in God, questions the Lord's ability to save His people, and encourages surrender rather than faith. His strategy is spiritual as well as military, seeking to replace confidence in God with fear and doubt. Throughout the chapter, the central question becomes this: Will God's people trust the Lord when circumstances appear impossible? The enemy's arguments sound persuasive from a human perspective, yet they ignore the sovereign power of the living God. Hezekiah's response is marked by restraint and quiet trust. Rather than engaging in fearful debate, the people remain silent according to the king's instruction. The chapter closes with the crisis unresolved, preparing the reader for God's remarkable deliverance in the chapters ahead. Theologically, 2 Kings 18 teaches that genuine faith is demonstrated not only during seasons of blessing but also in moments of overwhelming opposition. The chapter highlights the importance of removing idols, trusting God's promises, and refusing to allow fear to replace faith. This chapter points to Christ, who perfectly trusted the Father in every circumstance. Jesus faced opposition, temptation, and impossible situations without wavering in His confidence. He is the greater King who leads His people not merely against earthly enemies but to victory over sin, death, and Satan through His perfect obedience and finished work. For believers today, 2 Kings 18 reminds us that faithfulness to God does not guarantee an easy life, but it does guarantee God's presence. We will face voices that question God's promises and encourage compromise, yet we are called to trust the Lord above every earthly power. In Christ, we have a King who has already won the ultimate victory, giving us confidence to stand firm regardless of the challenges before us. Galatians 4 — Adopted as Sons Through the Christ Galatians chapter 4 continues Paul's explanation of the believer's freedom in the Christ, the Son of God. Having established that righteousness comes by faith rather than by the Law, Paul now reveals the intimate relationship believers have with God through adoption into His family. The chapter contrasts slavery under the Law with the freedom of sonship, demonstrating that the redemptive plan has always pointed toward a personal relationship with God through His Son rather than a life of religious bondage. The chapter begins with the illustration of an heir who, while still a child, lives under guardians and restrictions until the appointed time. Paul uses this picture to explain that before the coming of the Christ, God's people lived under the supervision of the Law. The Law served an important purpose, but it was temporary. It prepared people for the coming of the Son of God, who would bring the fullness of God's redemptive plan. At the perfect time in history, God sent His Son into the world. The Christ entered humanity, fulfilled the requirements of the Law, and accomplished redemption for those who were under its condemnation. Through His work, believers are no longer slaves but sons and daughters of God. Christian living begins with this new identity. The Son of God has not simply forgiven sinners; He has welcomed them into His family. Paul emphasizes the privilege of adoption. Believers are no longer distant from God but are able to know Him as their loving Father. The Holy Spirit confirms this relationship by producing confidence, assurance, and intimacy with God. The redemptive plan does not merely change a believer's legal standing before God; it transforms the relationship completely. Those who belong to the Christ become heirs of all that God has promised. The chapter then expresses Paul's concern that the Galatian believers were drifting back toward religious bondage. Having experienced the freedom found in the Christ, they were allowing themselves to become entangled again in regulations and external observances. This saddened Paul because it represented a return to slavery after having experienced true freedom. Christian living is never sustained through legalism but through continual dependence upon the grace of the Son of God. Paul reminds the Galatians of the love they once shared and recalls how they had joyfully received him when he first preached the gospel. His concern is not personal rejection but their spiritual well-being. Like the Christ, Paul longs to see believers fully mature in their faith. The redemptive plan is not complete until the character of the Son of God is increasingly formed within His people. Toward the end of the chapter, Paul uses an illustration from the lives of Abraham's two sons to explain the difference between living under the Law and living under God's promise. One son represents human effort and bondage, while the other represents God's promise fulfilled by grace. This comparison demonstrates that believers belong to the family established through God's promise rather than through human achievement. The Son of God fulfills the promise, and those who trust in Him become children of the promise as well. The chapter concludes by reminding believers that they are not children of slavery but children of freedom. Their identity is no longer defined by striving to earn God's acceptance but by receiving His grace through the Christ. Christian living flows from that secure relationship rather than attempting to achieve it. Throughout Galatians chapter 4, the Christ is revealed as the One who brings believers into God's family, secures their inheritance, and frees them from the bondage of legalism. The redemptive plan moves from law to grace, from slavery to sonship, and from fear to joyful fellowship with God. For believers today, this chapter reminds us to live in the freedom the Christ has secured for us. Christian living is rooted in our identity as God's beloved children, not in our ability to keep religious rules. We are encouraged to reject every form of spiritual bondage and to embrace the confidence that comes from knowing the Son of God. "Hosea 4:6 The restoration of God's Word brings us back to true life and righteousness through faith in Christ alone, not by water baptism. The thief on the cross was saved instantly by faith without being dipped in water (Luke 23:43). Believers today walk in newness of life by obeying the inward baptism of the Holy Spirit. Restoration of the Word and righteousness= The GREEN 7 Vision l saw on the wall after it vanished: Joel 2:28-31, acts26:16. The color green speaks of life, growth, and restoration. A vision given on the wall may fade from physical sight, but God's eternal truth remains firm. The Promise of the Spirit: God promised to pour out His Spirit upon all flesh in the last days (Joel 2:28-29). The Living Word: The written and spoken Word of God wakes up our dead hearts. It calls us back to pure truth and spiritual sight. Water BAPTISM vs. Christ's BAPTISM: JOHN'S WATER BAPTISM: John baptized with water for repentance. It pointed forward to the coming Savior, but it could not wash away sins or give new life. CHRIST'S Spirit BAPTISM: Jesus baptizes believers with the Holy Spirit and fire. Drawn into Christ: We are buried with Him by baptism into death through the Spirit (Romans 6:3-4). One Body: By one Spirit, we are all baptized into one body (1 Corinthians 12:13). Water does not place us into this body; the Spirit does. Obedience for Righteousness and Life Listening to Faith: True obedience today means yielding our hearts completely to the finished work of Jesus Christ. Walking in the Spirit: Righteousness comes when we stop trusting our own works and trust God's grace. Bearing Fruit: A heart changed by the Spirit naturally obeys God out of deep love and gratitude. Salvation by Faith Alone A Free Gift: Salvation is the gift of God, not of works, so no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). The Thief on the Cross: Jesus told the dying thief he would be in Paradise that day (Luke 23:43). The thief had no chance to go to a river for water baptism. His faith in Jesus saved him instantly. The New Creation: Faith in Christ makes a person brand new on the inside. Grace saves us completely apart from physical rituals. Why is following God vital? We follow God and His servants that we might know His ways. The Scripture reminds us that, “The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him and He will show the His covenant.” (Psalm 25:14). For this reason, “He made His ways known to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.” (Psalms 108:7). His servant teaches, “Then shall we know if we follow on to know the Lord: His going forth is prepared as the morning; He shall come to us as the rain, as the latter and the former rain to the earth” (Hosea 6:3). When God comes to us in His glory, we manifest His greatness. Signs, wonders and miracles become the norm in our lives. The Scripture also teaches that, “That at the name of Jesus should bow of things in heaven, and things in earth and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father”(Philippians 2:10). Not only has God come to us in glory; now He in duels us in the Holy Spirit. And where God is, nature being creature is subject. To the bodies that the almighty God has made His temple, we read that, “God also bearing them witness both with signs and wonders and with diverse miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost according to His own will”(Hebrews 2:4). Much of my book "The Seven Steps to Dominion with Christ Jesus" deals with issues of following the Lord God to dominion; but let us for a moment turn our attention on those He has put us under to take us forward – the leaders. True success comes from following the Lord God Almighty. But we can also follow God through His servants-the men and women He has walked with. Such great people are the mentors.

August 14 - Jesus Urges Compassion #LifeOfChrist “‘But go and learn what this means: “I desire compassion, and not sacrifice”’” (Matthew 9:13). Jesus never shied away from speaking directly and bluntly if the situation demanded such talk. Here He pins the Jewish leaders to the wall by quoting from their own most honored scriptural authorities. Their own prophets rebuke them for their spiritual ignorance and their lack of obedience to God’s clear commands. Jesus paraphrases Hosea’s prophetic and divinely inspired words: “I delight in loyalty rather than sacrifice, and in the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings” (Hos. 6:6). The perfect Word of God should have been the Pharisees’ supreme concern, as it should be ours, rather than the flawed words and ideas of humanity. Without true and godly compassion, all the Pharisees’ rituals, ceremonies, and sacrifices were worth nothing to God. The person who is indifferent toward other people verifies that he or she is also indifferent toward God, no matter how correct their theology or impeccable their morality. Ritual separated from righteousness and a concern for the downtrodden and lost has always been an affront to God. Through the prophet Amos, the Lord declared, “Take away from Me the noise of your songs; I will not even listen to the sound of your harps. But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream” (Amos 5:23–24). Ask Yourself In what ways have you let duty and religious reputation become elevated in importance beyond genuine love and compassion for others? What is so empty about the former . . . and so rejuvenating about the latter?

Whenever I remember the marriage of the prophet Hosea and Gomer, I am reminded of just how radical God’s love truly is and how precious humanity is to Him. Who are we, after all? Mortals whom He created in His own image! When we fell in Eden, He came to us in the flesh and gave Himself on the cross, so that He might reconcile us to Himself and restore us to fellowship with Him. We prostitute ourselves through all manner of sin, yet He looks upon us through the blood of Jesus Christ, extends mercy to us, and restores us to Himself. If His love is this profound, just imagine how fearful His judgement must be for those who ultimately die in their sins. The same God whose mercy relentlessly calls us back to Himself is also the righteous Judge who will judge sin. His love is extreme. His mercy is immeasurable. But His judgement is equally certain.

"WORKING IN THE KINGDOM (2)" ‘To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given...’ Matthew 25:29 NLT YOUR VALUE in a job is determined by the value you add to the job. When a Christian goes to work each day, God holds them accountable for adding, enhancing and improving things in their workplace. Jesus told the story of three men who were each given money. One was given five bags of it, another two, and another one. The first two ‘…went and traded with them, and gained…’ (Matthew 25:16 NAS). They showed skill, initiative, and made 100 percent profit. So they were commended by their master. But the third man just punched the clock, called in sick, didn’t train, try, dare, or do. So his job review didn’t go too well. And Jesus said something that ought to make us all sit up and take notice: ‘To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.’ That means if your attitude and work ethic are poor, you’re in trouble with God. So, let’s stop and think about your job. If Jesus were your supervisor, would you do your work any differently? How would you answer the phone, type documents, treat your employees, or teach your pupils if Jesus were checking your work? As a citizen of God’s kingdom you need to periodically review your attitude on the job, solicit feedback on how you can grow, demonstrate love and grace to those you work with, make your company profitable, and enjoy the work you do. At that time, churches were nearly empty, and the younger generation had grown indifferent to the faith. Two elderly women, Peggy and Christine Smith, deeply burdened by the spiritual decline, began fervent prayer for God to awaken their community to righteousness. Their prayers were anchored in repentance and a return to the Lord. Soon, other believers joined them in prayer. One night, a young man leading the prayer meeting read from Psalm 24:3, 4: "Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart..." He cried out, "Is my heart clean? Are my hands pure?" That honest moment of repentance sparked a spiritual breakthrough, and soon people across the island began confessing their sins, turning back to God, and experiencing profound spiritual healing.* *In our text, the prophet calls God's people to repentance. The passage begins with a heartfelt plea for repentance and return to the Lord. It reflects Israel's realisation that they had strayed from God and were suffering the consequences of their rebellion. Yet, despite their waywardness, God desired to restore and revive them if they genuinely repented. The promises of being "revived after two days" and "restored on the third day" symbolised God's readiness to bring spiritual renewal to those who returned to Him.* *Christians today have important lessons to learn. True healing, whether it is healing from guilt, broken relationships, spiritual dryness or backsliding, begins with repentance. It is not just about feeling remorse but about acknowledging your sins, seeking God's forgiveness, and making a decisive turn toward Him.* *In our modern world, temptations and sin often pull people away from God. But just as the Hebrides Revival demonstrated, God responds powerfully to repentance. When believers humble themselves and call upon God for themselves or others, He is faithful to heal, restore, and pour out His blessings. In 1948, a released christian newsletter during the time of revivalist Abraham Branham reads. “All the great outpourings of the past have had their outstanding truths. Luther’s truth was Justification by Faith. Wesley’s was Sanctification. The Baptists taught the premillennial coming of Christ. The Missionary Alliance taught Divine Healing. The Pentecostal outpouring has restored the Baptism of the Holy Ghost to its rightful place. But, the next great outpouring is going to be marked by all these other truths plus such a demonstration of the nine gifts of the Spirit as the world, not even the Apostolic world, has ever witnessed before. This revival will be short and will be the last before the Rapture of the Church.” The consolation and joy is that whatever great and wonderful experiences we have enjoyed in the past can still be restored by God if man does the needful. This is the message of Hosea to Israel and the godly. *1. Call to Return to God* a. Adam, representing the man of all ages, started with God, but departed from God and many woes followed. In order to vacate the woes, the message of God is simple, return to God. All the woes, challenges, calamities, anguish, backslidings and challenges of man have only one divine prescription: Return to God. Returning to God requires turning or change. Man is generally, reluctant to change. This is one of Newton's Laws of Motion. Willingness to turn is generally, where the problem of man lies. The turning to God requires acceptance of wrongs towards God, decisions with appropriate steps and asking God for forgiveness without self justification. It involves deliberate action of repentance. Repentance from what cause the loss of good old blessings, including repentance from sin, unforgiving spirit, bitterness against neighbours and perhaps God, love of the world, selective obedience to the command of God in any area etc., are just what God is looking for before He pours down His blessings afresh. God did not see that turning or repentance in Adam and Eve. Both of them were busy giving excuses and blaming each other. Neither fully admitted his/her obvious wrong and neither fully repented and returned to God. The repercussion was that they never got the blessing they lost back. They were driven from the beautiful, blessed and blissful garden. If they had returned to God with words of soberness and repentance, the story would have been different for them and the whole humanity. All lost blessings from God are only returned after turning and repentance from the root cause. b. The message of God is the same. *"Come, and let us return unto the LORD"*. Stop the blame game. Stop the murmuring and complain. The promise of God for the repentant is valid at all times and in all generations. *"For he hath torn, and he will heal us"*. When your garment of glory is torn, when your shining regalia of blessings is torn, when the source of your joy is torn, the immediate and uncompromisable demand of God and solution is to turn to God. *"He hath smitten, and he will bind us up"*. This is a word of assurance for those who take the courage to turn from their evil ways, carelessness and compromise. *Question* Assess your life where you have departed from God and your old consecration to God and His word. Are you willing to turn? Start today. *2. Comforting Revival Through Grace* a. Has Israel not gone too far to an irredeemable damnable and bitter experience? God, through Hosea says NO. When there is possibility and willingness to turn, the promise to restore and revive is always unbreakable. Jesus said, *"the scripture cannot be broken."* Hosea used the picture of Calvary and the resurrection of Jesus on the third day to show the reality and restoration of revival for dead bones. *"After two days will he revive us"*. After two days is the third day including all other days after the third day. It shows the beginning of revival on the third day and the continuity of revival after the third day. *"In the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight"*. The resurrection of Jesus Christ has assurably made possible the restoration of any dead soul and experiences even when it appears they are already stinking spiritually in the grave. b. The parable of dead bones in Ezekiel 37 shows that revival and restoration is possible when the Word of God is given a prominent and final say in the life of an individual, family, church or nation. All the revivals the Church has experienced in different ages at a time of total darkness were as a result of giving the Word of God the first and unquestionably place. The same applies to any individual that needs revival. Taking the Word of God at face values drives to repentance including burdened and persistent prayers. Once this is done, the rain will definitely fall and there will be repentance and restoration. *Question* Are you desirous of revival and restoration of past glories in your life? From the explanation above, what is your decision? *3. Continuous Refreshment unto Glory* a. Why blessings are lost and revival is gone is because of lack of continuity in the Old faith and consecration that brought the revival in the first place. Jesus said, *"If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples in deed"*. Disciples in deeds are different from disciples in the mouth to profession. Continuity is the key. *"Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD"*. Continuous following leads to deeper knowledge and deeper knowledge is manifested by continuous following. *"His going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth"*. The former rain is to prepare the ground for planting while the latter rain is to prepare the crop for harvesting. It is the harvesting that is generally seen, but not the planting time of rigour and sacrifice. He that sows, though not seen by many should sow in hope because harvesting is certain. Rain of the Holy Spirit is needed to sow the seed of repentance, intercession and consecration while rain of the Holy Spirit is also needed to enjoy the harvest of refreshment, restoration and revival.
