Daily devotion for August 21st The Need For A Sacrifice We assume the responsibility. For the holy offerings; for sin offerings to make atonement for Israel; and for all the duties of the house of our God. Nehemiah 10:32-33 The people recognized the need for offerings and sacrifices. The history of Israel clearly reveals that this nation emphasized shedding the blood of animals and offering up their crops and grain to God. By so doing they were never allowed to forget the cost of redemption. Blood shed means a death has occurred. God is teaching His people that their problem with sin within is of such a serious nature it cannot be solved by merely instructing the mind. Only death can cure it. These bloody offerings prepared the way for the death of Jesus and even our remembrance of that death at the Lord's table. We ought to meditate on this every day. We should never allow ourselves to forget the cost of our redemption. It took all that God had to open a door that we might return to Him. As Peter put it, For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect (1 Peter 1:18-19). Very closely related to the blood offerings was the promise of these people to bring the firstfruits of their crops, herds, flocks, and even their sons to God. What they were doing was recognizing the ownership and rights of God in their lives. A corresponding truth for us today is, You are not your own; you were bought at a price (1 Corinthians 6:19b-20a). God owns us. We do not own ourselves. The world says, You are your own. If you are pregnant and you do not want the baby, you can kill it, because you have a right to do what you please with your own body. But the Bible says, No, you are not your own. You do not have a right to do anything you like with the body God gave you. This is true in other aspects of life as well. We are not our own. We have no right to determine what we are going to do with our lives or even whom we are going to marry, apart from God's limitations. We have certain choices granted to us, but not all choices. One of the important aspects of becoming a Christian is to recognize the rights of God and to live our lives within the limits He establishes. This is what this great passage is teaching. It is the way by which Israel recognized frequently and continually that their lives were not their own. They too were bought with a price. They belonged to God. He has the right to direct their affairs and make many choices for them. Thank You, Lord, for this reminder that I am not my own; I have been bought with a price. I surrender my life to You, knowing that You have redeemed me with the precious blood of Christ

Thursday, 20th August, 2026 TITLE: "THE LORD FIGHTS FOR YOU" ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S) Deuteronomy 20:4 (KJV) "For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you." Exodus 14:14 (KJV) "The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." QUOTE TO REFLECT ON "When God goes before you, no battle is greater than His power." DAY'S REFLECTION Life sometimes brings battles we cannot avoid—opposition, difficult circumstances, uncertainty, disappointment, and situations that seem beyond our control. In such moments, God's Word gives us a powerful assurance: we are not fighting alone. Deuteronomy 20:4 declares that "the LORD your God is he that goeth with you." The word "goeth" reminds us that God does not send His people into battle and abandon them. He goes with them. His presence gives us courage when circumstances create fear. The Scripture also says that God goes with us "to fight for you against your enemies, to save you." This does not mean that believers will never face opposition. Rather, it assures us that our ultimate confidence is in God's power, justice, and ability to deliver. Some battles require our action and obedience; others require us to stand still and allow God to intervene. This is exactly what Moses told Israel at the Red Sea in Exodus 14:14: "The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." Israel was trapped between the Red Sea and Pharaoh's army. Humanly speaking, there seemed to be no escape. Yet God was about to demonstrate that an impossible situation was not beyond His ability. "Hold your peace" means to remain calm and trust God rather than allowing fear and panic to control you. There are times when our greatest act of faith is to stop worrying, pray, obey God's instructions, and wait for Him to act. In everyday life, we may encounter situations where we have done everything within our ability and still see no solution. Such moments remind us that God's power is greater than human limitations. We should not respond with panic, bitterness, or despair. Instead, we should place the matter before God and trust Him for direction and deliverance. Today, remember that the battle belongs to the Lord. Do what He requires of you, but do not carry what only He can carry. God goes before you, God stands with you, and God is able to fight for you. Dear Father, Edmund Gettier, a philosopher, proposed an addition to the concept of epistemology-- the study of knowledge, when he argued that a person can believe something without knowing it, but no one can claim to know something without believing it. How true is this of humanity? There is also a branch of epistemology called empiricism, which supports the idea that the most reliable source of human knowledge is experience or sensory perceptions. My problem with this view is that it limits the truth of humanity’s existence to what is attainable in his lifetime. I was reminded of Thomas, who, when the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” responded, “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” The issue, however, lies not in the limitations that exist in obtaining the experience needed for an unwavering belief in You, but in how willing we are to pay the price to know what we have always believed. It is true that many of us are like Thomas, with certain doubts and confusions, believing in Jesus but not all that He purports to represent. Perhaps this is what Edmund communicates: that there is a risk in believing when sufficient knowledge is lacking. Isn’t this one of the reasons we struggle with our faith? Isn’t this the reason we doubt-- asking questions without necessarily seeking answers? Today, I took it upon myself to reflect on how much I have put into knowing all that I believe about You. 18-08-2026 Nothing Is Impossible With God Mark 10:27 (AMP): “With people [as far as it depends on them] it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.” Mark 10:27 reminds us that our limitations are not God’s limitations. There will be moments when you look at a situation and think, “There is absolutely no way this can happen.” Maybe the door seems completely closed, the circumstances seem too complicated, or something you have been praying for feels impossible. But Jesus tells us something powerful: what is impossible with people is possible with God. Sometimes we measure God’s ability by our own ability. We think, “I can't fix this, I don't have enough, I don't know how this will work out.” And perhaps you don't know how—and that's okay. God doesn't need you to know how. He simply asks you to trust Him. Your responsibility is not to figure out every detail. Your responsibility is to keep believing, keep praying, keep walking in obedience, and keep your eyes on the One who can do what you cannot. God can make a way where there appears to be no way. He can restore what seems broken beyond repair. He can provide when the resources seem insufficient. He can open doors you could never open yourself. Your impossible situation is not an impossible situation for God. Today, surrender the things you cannot control. Stop carrying the pressure of having to figure everything out. Give God room to work in His way and in His timing. 🙏 Prayer Father, Thank You that nothing is impossible for You. When I look at my circumstances and see limitations, help me to look at You and see possibility. Forgive me for the times I've allowed fear, doubt, or my own understanding to become bigger than my faith. Teach me to trust You even when I cannot see the way forward. I surrender my impossible situations to You. Where I see no way, make a way. Where I feel weak, give me strength. Where I feel uncertain, give me peace. Help me remember that I don't have to understand everything to trust You. I believe that You are able to do what I cannot do. I believe that You are working even when I cannot see it. Dear Father, I find the story of Jacob interesting, where he obtained greater flocks from Laban, his mother's brother, as a reward for his labor. The agreement between them was that all the speckled, spotted, and brown animals would be given as Jacob's wages, while Laban would retain the pure colored animals. At first, Jacob admits that his choice of speckled flocks was influenced by what You revealed to him in his dream; however, he also did something beautiful. The Scripture says: “Jacob pilled and set rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chestnut tree, before the flocks in the gutters, in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink. And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.” In the olden days, our ancestors believed that what a mother saw or experienced during conception could affect the appearance of her offspring. The amazing part is that Jacob was not just aware of the analogy between sight and perspective and their influence on outcomes; he went out of his way to build before the eyes of the flocks what he desired to see. Despite having seen it in a dream, he did not leave it to chance. He proceeded and worked towards bringing into his world what he had first seen in Yours. I believe one of the first limitations to fulfilling destiny is not circumstance, but perspective. How can we become what we do not see? These possibilities do exist in Your realm, but to make them a reality in ours, we must first believe it. August 17th, 2026 Read; Psalm 139: 13-14 Our Creator intimately formed us, possessing our innermost being and covering us in our mother's womb. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, a testament to His marvelous works, and our souls know this truth well. Before anyone knew of our coming, He had divine plans for us. When we consider all God has done, we see His hand in our unique creation, His faithful care for our lives, and His powerful ability to heal. He is not only our Maker but also our constant Sustainer, demonstrating His infinite love through His works. Prayer God Almighty, my Savior and Redeemer, thank You for knowing me before I could know myself and for giving me life. I receive the abilities, limitations, history, and relationships You have entrusted to me as part of Your wise care. Keep me from turning my particular gifts into pride or comparing my life with another's. Sunday, 16th August, 2026 TITLE: "ASK GOD FOR WISDOM: LET HIM DIRECT YOUR STEPS" ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S) James 1:5 (KJV) "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." Proverbs 2:6 (KJV) "For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding." QUOTE TO REFLECT ON "When you lack direction, ask God for wisdom; He gives generously." DAY'S REFLECTION Life presents us with decisions that require more than knowledge or experience. We need wisdom—the ability to understand situations correctly and apply God's truth in the right way. James 1:5 gives believers a simple invitation: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God." The word wisdom refers to practical, godly understanding that helps us make choices that honour God. James does not say we should be ashamed when we lack wisdom. Instead, he tells us to ask. God is described as the One who gives "liberally", meaning generously and freely. He does not embarrass us for asking, because He knows our limitations. The phrase "upbraideth not" means that God does not reproach or shame us for coming to Him. We can approach Him confidently and honestly. Proverbs 2:6 reinforces this truth: "For the LORD giveth wisdom." True wisdom ultimately comes from God. Education, experience, advice, and human intelligence are valuable, but they cannot replace divine wisdom. God's knowledge gives us understanding of what is true, while His understanding helps us discern how to apply that truth. Life experience teaches us that many mistakes happen when people make important decisions based only on emotions, pressure, assumptions, or appearances. A decision may look attractive today but produce painful consequences tomorrow. God's wisdom helps us look beyond the immediate and consider what is right, wise, and pleasing to Him. Before making important decisions, develop the habit of asking God for wisdom. Pray before responding. Search His Word before choosing. Seek godly counsel when necessary, and be willing to obey what God reveals. You do not have to know everything. You simply need to know where to go when you do not know what to do. Ask God. *TODAY'S PROPHETIC DECLARATION - SUNDAY, 16TH AUGUST, 2026.* 🌟*PRAISE GOD FOR HIS MIGHTY ACTS.* *(11th Sunday after Trinity)* 📖 Scripture: “Praise ye the LORD. Today, as we celebrate the 11th Sunday after Trinity, we are reminded that praise should not depend on our circumstances. God deserves our worship because of who He is and because of what He has done. There are blessings we can see and others we may never know about. When we praise God, we acknowledge His sovereignty, celebrate His faithfulness, and declare our confidence in His power.
