• On Sunday morning, 18 June 1995, Steve Hill (an itinerant revivalist) started preaching at the Brownsville Assembly of God. His text was on Psalm 77 verses 11-12.
He prophesied that God was going to do something special, “Every person who is dry will be drenched by rain”. At the end of his message, he gave an altar call and only 6 people came forward.
He told the rest of the congregation that when in was in Argentina (where he served as a missionary with Carlos Annacondia), he didn’t realize that he was so dry until God came and soaked him. He asked those who needed more of God to come forward.
One thousand did; half of the congregation. The majority of people just collapsed on the floor as Steve Hill and John Kilpatrick laid hands on them. It was Father’s Day; and the Spirit of God finally showed up! Kilpatrick had been praying for a revival for 2.5 years and it finally came. This revival would last 5 years with daily revival services (the church only closed for 2 weeks over the course of 5 years).

  • “On Father’s Day, June 18, 1995 Steve Hill was invited by John Kilpatrick, the Pastor of Brownsville Assembly of God, to speak at the Sunday morning service. Kilpatrick had just lost his mother to cancer was emotionally and physically weary, so he requested his longtime friend Hill to speak in his place.
Hill issued an altar call and a thousand people responded. Kilpatrick says that he felt the sensation of a wind blowing in the church. Various manifestations occurred such as falling to the ground, weeping and violent shaking. The morning service was scheduled to finish at noon but continued till 4 p.m. Likewise the night service was extended and became a five-hour long service.
    The Pensacola Revival had begun.
Congregation members asked Hill to stay a several more days. This he did and began to cancelling appointments, including a trip to Russia. He decided to stay and moved his family to be near the revival. It is estimated that over 100,000 people have been saved and over 1 million people from all over the world have visited Pensacola since 1995.”
