    Today’s Scripture

    John 2:8 (ESV)

“And he said to them, ‘Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.’ So they took it.”

    Opening the Scriptures

The servants had obeyed Jesus and filled the six stone jars with water up to the brim.

    Then Jesus gave another command.

“Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.”

Notice what John tells us next:

    “So they took it.”

    There is no recorded argument.

There is no demand for an explanation.

    There is simply obedience.

The servants had put water into those jars. They knew what had been placed there. Yet Jesus now told them to draw from the jars and take it to the man responsible for the wedding feast.

They still did not know what Jesus was doing.

But they obeyed what He said.

    Living God’s Word Today

There are times when obeying Christ requires us to move forward without knowing what the result will be.

We often want certainty before obedience.

We want God to show us exactly how everything will work before we act.

But Scripture does not teach us to trust our ability to understand every circumstance.

It teaches us to trust God.

This does not mean Christians should act carelessly or treat every personal feeling as though it were a command from God.

    That would be dangerous.

Our obedience must be governed by what God has actually revealed in His Word.

When Scripture speaks clearly, however, we should not delay obedience simply because we cannot see what God will accomplish through it.

We forgive because Christ commands us to forgive.

We speak truth because God commands truthfulness.

We love because Christ commands us to love.

We share the Gospel because Christ has commanded His people to make disciples.

We serve faithfully because we belong to Him.

The servants at Cana could not change water into wine.

    Their responsibility was much simpler.

    Jesus commanded.

    They obeyed.

What happened next depended entirely upon the power of Christ.

This protects us from two serious mistakes.

We must not become passive and refuse to do what God commands.

But neither should we imagine that the results depend entirely upon us.

Obedience belongs to us. The power and the results belong to God.

Whatever responsibility Christ has placed before you today, carry it out faithfully according to His Word.

Then trust Him with what follows.

    Question for Today

Are you willing to obey Christ even when you cannot yet see what He will do?

Respond: “Lord Jesus, I will trust You and obey Your Word.”

    TOPIC: BREAKING COVENANTS, PART 2

    MEMORIZE:
"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world" 1 John 4:4 (KJV)

    BIBLE READING: 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17-19
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

    18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

    MESSAGE:
Years ago, one of my daughters in the Lord came to me and said, "Daddy, a young man approached me and said he wants to marry me." I congratulated her, but she replied, "Daddy, my father told me that I was dedicated to a river goddess when I was born, and a covenant was made that whoever I marry is going to die on our wedding day. I don't want the young man to die." I told her that I know someone stronger than the river goddess. We prayed a simple prayer, and she left. The next time I saw her, she was happily married and already had a baby. I declare that any evil force that might be hindering your progress is destroyed today, in Jesus' name.

A new and greater covenant can cancel a previously existing one. For instance, if you want to break a covenant with someone, all you need to do is enter into a covenant with someone greater; the greater fellow can release you from the lesser person's covenant by force. If a person enters into a covenant with the devil, the moment he or she enters into a covenant with God, He will wipe out all evil covenants from the fellow's life. God's covenant is superior to any other covenant. Our God is stronger than the strongest; therefore, once a person enters into a covenant with Him, He will bind any strong man who was previously in charge of the fellow's life and throw him out.

It is also important to note that the devil still seeks to retain his strongholds in the lives of people even after they have become born again. A stronghold is a deeply entrenched evil pattern that the devil has instilled in a person, and it must be addressed. Otherwise, the person will continue to operate under its influence even after he or she has become born again. Such strongholds typically include bitterness, pride, generational curses, anger, and other similar issues.

Beloved, (2 Corinthians 10:3-5) urges us to pull down strongholds and cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. If you are a party to any evil covenant or are under the influence of any demonic stronghold, cry out to God today to deliver you by His mighty power. I join my faith with yours and decree that you are completely free from any evil covenant or demonic stronghold that might be in your life, in Jesus' name.

    KEY POINT:
Having a covenant with God annuls every evil covenant in a person's life.

HYMNAL 10 - IN CHRIST ALONE
1 In Christ alone, my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
    This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

2 In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

3 There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

4 No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
    Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

    Today’s Scripture

    John 2:7 (ESV)

“Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ And they filled them up to the brim.”

    Opening the Scriptures

The six large stone jars were standing nearby.

Then Jesus gave the servants a simple command:

    “Fill the jars with water.”

The servants did not yet know what Jesus was going to do. The wedding needed wine, yet Jesus told them to bring water.

From a human point of view, the command may have seemed unrelated to the problem.

    But the servants obeyed.

    John adds an important detail:

“They filled them up to the brim.”

They did not partially obey. They did not fill the jars halfway and decide that was enough. They carried out the command completely.

They still did not know what would happen next.

They simply did what Jesus told them to do.

    Living God’s Word Today

There is an important lesson here about Christian obedience.

We often want God to explain everything before we obey Him.

    We want to know why.

We want to know what will happen.

We want to understand how obedience will benefit us.

But obedience to Christ cannot depend upon our understanding of the outcome.

When God has spoken clearly in His Word, our responsibility is to obey.

Sometimes His commands will challenge us.

    Forgive.

    Love your enemies.

    Speak the truth.

    Flee from sin.

    Care for those in need.

    Share the Gospel.

Remain faithful when obedience becomes costly.

We may not always understand what God is accomplishing through our obedience.

The servants at Cana certainly did not.

But they filled the jars “up to the brim.”

There is also a warning for us here.

Partial obedience is often disguised disobedience.

We cannot faithfully follow Christ while selecting only the commands we find comfortable.

Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

Our obedience does not earn salvation. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ, not by our works. But a life transformed by Christ should increasingly become a life of obedience to Christ.

The servants could fill the jars.

They could not perform the miracle.

    That belonged entirely to Jesus.

The same distinction remains important for us.

Our responsibility is faithful obedience. The results belong to God.

Today, do not demand to see the outcome before obeying.

Trust Christ enough to do what He has commanded.

And when you obey, do not stop halfway.

    Fill it to the brim.

    Question for Today

Is there an area where you have been giving Christ only partial obedience?

Respond: “Lord Jesus, help me to obey You completely.”
DAILY BREAD FELLOWSHIP DBF-001-028 Today’s Scripture John 2:7 (ESV) “Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ And they filled them up to the brim.” Opening the Scriptures The six large stone jars were standing nearby. Then Jesus gave the servants a simple command: “Fill the jars with water.” The servants did not yet know what Jesus was going to do. The wedding needed wine, yet Jesus told them to bring water. From a human point of view, the command may have seemed unrelated to the problem. But the servants obeyed. John adds an important detail: “They filled them up to the brim.” They did not partially obey. They did not fill the jars halfway and decide that was enough. They carried out the command completely. They still did not know what would happen next. They simply did what Jesus told them to do. Living God’s Word Today There is an important lesson here about Christian obedience. But they filled the jars “up to the brim.” There is also a warning for us here. Partial obedience is often disguised disobedience. We cannot faithfully follow Christ while selecting only the commands we find comfortable. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” Our obedience does not earn salvation. Question for Today Is there an area where you have been giving Christ only partial obedience? Respond: “Lord Jesus, help me to obey You completely.”

    Today’s Scripture
    John 2:6 (ESV)
“Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.”
    Opening the Scriptures
John now draws our attention to something standing nearby at the wedding: six large stone water jars.
These were not ordinary drinking containers. John specifically tells us that they were connected with Jewish purification practices.
The jars were large. Together they could hold well over one hundred gallons of water.
At this point, however, they were simply standing there.
The servants did not yet know why Jesus would soon direct their attention toward them.
This detail reminds us of something important when reading Scripture. God often accomplishes His purposes through things that appear completely ordinary.
    The servants saw water jars.
Jesus knew what He was about to do.
    Living God’s Word Today
We often think God can use us only when we possess something impressive.
We may believe we need greater ability, more education, more money, greater influence, or better circumstances before we can serve Him effectively.
But Scripture repeatedly challenges that thinking.
God is not limited by what appears small or ordinary to us.
The question is not whether what we possess seems impressive.
The question is whether it is available for His purposes.
Those stone jars could not perform a miracle.
    Neither could the servants.
The power belonged entirely to Christ.
That distinction is essential in Christian service.
Whenever God accomplishes something through our lives, ministries, churches, abilities, or resources, we must never confuse the instrument with the One who supplies the power.
    Christ receives the glory.
Perhaps you sometimes feel that what you have to offer God is insignificant.
Do not measure usefulness according to human standards.
Bring what you have under the authority of Christ.
Your time can be used by Him.
Your home can be used by Him.
Your abilities can be used by Him.
Your resources can be used by Him.
Your ordinary conversations can become opportunities to speak truth and demonstrate the love of Christ.
But never forget: the power is not in us.
We are servants. Christ is Lord.
The six stone jars were standing at Cana, ready to be used according to His command.
The servants would soon discover that ordinary obedience placed them in the service of an extraordinary Savior.
Our responsibility today remains the same.
    Be available.
    Listen to His Word.
    Obey what He commands.
And give Christ all the glory for whatever He accomplishes.
    Question for Today:
Are you willing to place what you have at Christ’s disposal for His purposes?
Respond: “Lord, use what You have given me for Your glory.”

  • WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM PSALM 45?

Psalm 45 is more than a beautiful royal wedding song. It gives us a powerful picture of kingship, righteousness, devotion, and an everlasting throne.

    Three lessons stand out:

Honor the King — Recognize the greatness and authority of Christ.

Live devoted to God — Leave behind what separates you from Him and pursue Him wholeheartedly.

Remember the eternal kingdom — Earthly circumstances change, but Christ's reign does not.

Psalm 45 reminds us that our ultimate hope is found in a King whose kingdom will never end.

Jesus Christ is worthy of our worship, our loyalty, and our lives.

JESUS: THE MIRACLE WORKER AND TEMPLE OF GOD

    TEXT: JOHN 2:1–25

    KEY VERSE:

«“This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.” — John 2:11 (KJV)»

John 2 introduces us to two significant events in the ministry of Jesus: His first recorded miracle at Cana and His cleansing of the temple.

These two events reveal something powerful about Jesus.

He is not only able to change circumstances; He also desires to cleanse and transform lives.

At Cana, Jesus turned water into wine.

In the temple, Jesus confronted everything that had corrupted a place meant for worship.

    The message is clear:

Jesus has power to transform what is empty, restore what is broken, and cleanse what has become polluted.

    THREE LESSONS FROM JOHN 2

    INVITE JESUS INTO YOUR SITUATION.

At the wedding in Cana, the wine ran out.

Mary brought the situation to Jesus.

    John 2:3 says:

    «“They have no wine.”»

The situation appeared embarrassing and hopeless.

    But Jesus was present.

Sometimes we focus so much on what is missing that we forget who is present.

You may have a situation that seems impossible today.

You may have run out of strength.

You may have run out of resources.

You may feel like your joy has disappeared.

But if Jesus is present, there is still hope.

    Take your situation to Jesus.

    Don't only complain about it.

    Don't surrender to fear.

Don't depend solely on human strength.

    Bring it to Christ. 🏽

JESUS CAN TRANSFORM THE ORDINARY INTO SOMETHING GLORIOUS.

Jesus instructed the servants to fill six waterpots with water.

    Then He performed the miracle.

    Water became wine.

John 2:9 records the servants' astonishment at what had happened.

This teaches us that Jesus can take ordinary things and use them for extraordinary purposes.

    Your life may look ordinary.

    Your resources may seem small.

    Your abilities may seem insignificant.

But when you place them in the hands of Jesus, He can do something extraordinary.

Never underestimate what God can do with a surrendered life.

    Your testimony can change.

    Your character can change.

    Your family can change.

    Your ministry can change.

    Your future can change.

    Jesus is still a transformer.

OBEDIENCE IS PART OF THE MIRACLE.

The servants at Cana had a role to play.

They had to fill the waterpots.

They had to draw out the water.

They had to obey the instructions of Jesus.

They did not understand everything Jesus was doing, but they obeyed.

Sometimes we want to see God's miracle while refusing to follow God's instructions.

But faith and obedience belong together.

    When Jesus says forgive—obey.

    When Jesus says pray—obey.

    When Jesus says leave sin—obey.

    When Jesus says serve—obey.

    When Jesus says go—obey.

You don't need to understand everything before you obey God.

    JESUS CLEANSES THE TEMPLE

Later in John 2, Jesus entered the temple and found people buying and selling.

The house of worship had become a marketplace.

Jesus drove them out and declared:

«“Make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.” — John 2:16»

Jesus was deeply concerned about the holiness of God's house.

This should challenge us as believers.

Paul later teaches that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.

    Therefore, we must ask:

What have I allowed into my life that Jesus would want to remove?

Are there attitudes that need to go?

Is there bitterness that needs to go?

Is there secret sin that needs to go?

Are there relationships that are pulling you away from God?

Are there habits that are damaging your spiritual life?

    LET JESUS CLEAN YOUR TEMPLE

Sometimes we ask Jesus to bless our lives while resisting His desire to cleanse our lives.

We want His miracles but not His correction.

We want His blessings but not His discipline.

We want His presence but not His holiness.

    But Jesus does both:

    He transforms and He cleanses.

Allow Him to examine your heart.

Allow Him to remove what does not glorify Him.

Allow Him to restore your spiritual altar.

DON'T TURN YOUR WORSHIP INTO A TRANSACTION

The temple was designed for worship, but it had become a place of business.

This warns us against treating God like a transaction.

Don't serve God only because you want something.

Don't pray only when you need something.

Don't worship only when life is going well.

Don't follow Christ only for blessings.

Jesus deserves our worship because He is Lord.

JESUS KNOWS WHAT IS IN OUR HEARTS

John 2:24–25 says that Jesus knew all people and knew what was in man.

You may hide things from people, but nothing is hidden from Christ.

    He knows your thoughts.

    He knows your motives.

    He knows your struggles.

    He knows your secret battles.

And yet He still calls you closer.

Therefore, don't run from Jesus because of what He already knows.

    Run to Him for transformation.

    ✍🏽 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

When Jesus enters your life, He does not only change your circumstances; He also cleanses your heart and transforms you into a vessel for His glory.

    🏽 PRAYER

    Heavenly Father,

Thank You for revealing the power and glory of Jesus Christ through His Word.

Lord Jesus, come into every area of my life. Transform what needs to be transformed and restore what has been broken.

Teach me to trust You even when I do not understand Your ways. Give me grace to obey Your Word completely.

Cleanse my heart from every attitude, habit, desire, relationship, and sin that does not glorify You.

Make my life a holy temple where Your presence is welcomed and Your name is honored.

Help me never to treat my relationship with You as a transaction. Let my worship come from a genuine heart that loves and honors You.

May Your glory be revealed through my life.

In Jesus' mighty name, Amen. 🏽

    DATE: WEDNESDAY 19TH AUGUST 2026

    TOPIC: GOD'S COVENANT OF PROTECTION

    MEMORIZE:
"For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her." Zechariah 2:5 (KJV)

    BIBLE READING: PSALM 91:1-16
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

    5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

    9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

    MESSAGE:
The devil lures many people into evil covenants with the promise of protection; however, complete protection only exists in God. Romans 8:31 says, "... If God be for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:37 further says that we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us. This means that, if you are in a covenant with God, you will not have to fight any battle, because He will always fight for you. Many times, you would have won the battle before you even realise that someone was trying to attack you.

I ran away from my village after some people threatened that they were going to 'eat me for breakfast,' and for 13 years, I could not return. However, after I met the Lord Jesus Christ, I was able to visit my village, and I even attended a wedding where I saw many of the people who had threatened to kill me through diabolical means. I was much younger in the faith at the time, so I had a lot of zeal but not much wisdom. I was asked to preach at the wedding, and I delivered a powerful sermon that hit them hard with the word of God. Some months later, those people went to the mother of the lady who got married and told her that it was her daughter's wedding that provided a platform for me to insult them. They further said that they had been waiting for an opportunity for revenge, and the opportunity had presented itself now that her daughter was pregnant. They told her, "We will see if your daughter will give birth, unless we are not the ones in charge here on earth." The lady's mother became frightened and came to me. I told her not to worry and assured her that on the day her daughter would give birth, all those who had threatened her would fall asleep. To the glory of God, things turned out exactly as I said; her daughter gave birth while those who threatened her were sleeping. The baby they swore would not be born is now a medical doctor.

Beloved, God said that He will be a wall of fire around you in today's memory verse, and anyone who chooses to confront the Consuming Fire will not live to tell the story. Never be afraid of any force, person, or situation that threatens to harm you. Cry out to God in such cases, and He will show up to defend you and give you victory.

    KEY POINT:
God is a wall of fire around those who are in a covenant with Him.

Zechariah 2:5 (KJV) BIBLE READING: PSALM 91:1-16 1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. MESSAGE: The devil lures many people into evil covenants with the promise of protection; however, complete protection only exists in God. KEY POINT: God is a wall of fire around those who are in a covenant with Him. BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR: JEREMIAH 49 AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE HYMNAL 5 - BLESSED ASSURANCE 1. THE GRANDEST INVITATION

"Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready." — Revelation 19:7

In our world, wedding invitations carry weight. We check our calendars, coordinate attire, and prepare gifts to honor the couple. Yet the most magnificent celebration in human history—the Marriage Supper of the Lamb—requires a far different kind of preparation.

Revelation 19 shifts the cosmic scene from the fall of earthly empires to an outburst of unhindered praise. The long-awaited climax of history arrives not as a political conquest, but as a wedding feast. Jesus, the Lamb who was slain to purchase humanity with His blood, is revealed as the Bridegroom. The Church—every believer across time—is His bride.

This short verse carries three deep spiritual movements for your day:

Rejoice and Be Glad: True Christian joy is grounded in an unshakable future. Whatever hardship or disappointment you face today, it is not the final chapter of your story. The end of history is a feast, not a famine.

Give Him Glory: Salvation is entirely God’s initiative. We do not earn our place at this table; we are invited by grace.

Make Yourself Ready: The bride's readiness is both a gift and a pursuit. In the very next verse, Revelation notes that her fine linen is given to her, representing the righteous acts of God's holy people.

To be ready for the Bridegroom means living today in light of eternity. It means letting love, purity, and devotion shape how you treat others, manage your time, and guard your heart. You are not waiting aimlessly; you are preparing for a wedding.

Take time today to consider what temporary worry or distraction is currently competing for the joy that belongs to your eternal future, and how you can actively make yourself ready in your daily decisions and relationships.

Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting me to Your eternal feast through Jesus Christ, the Lamb. When the cares of this world feel heavy, lift my eyes to the joy that awaits me. Purify my heart today, align my desires with Your kingdom, and help me live with expectant hope. Let my life reflect the grace and righteousness You have so generously given me. Amen.
