    WE ASK GOD FOR MORE LIGHT—THEN MAKE EXCUSES WHEN HIS LIGHT REQUIRES CHANGE

    “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice.” — 1 Samuel 15:22

    We pray:

    “Lord, show me Your will.”

    Then His light touches something we love—

    our time, appetite, appearance, character, location, or tongue—

    and suddenly:

    “My situation is different.”
    “Everyone does it.”
    “I'm not convicted.”

    Perhaps our greatest problem is not always lack of light.

    IT IS THE HUMAN HEART'S AMAZING ABILITY TO EXPLAIN AWAY THE LIGHT IT DOES NOT WANT TO OBEY.

    Jesus asks:

    “Why call ye Me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” — Luke 6:46

    So here is the question beneath every reform:

    ARE WE SEEKING GOD'S WILL—OR ASKING GOD TO APPROVE OURS?

    ---

    ① SABBATH REFORM—WHO OWNS YOUR TIME?

    THE EXCUSES:

    “I have to work.”
    “Most Christians worship Sunday.”
    “God knows my heart.”

    Yes—God knows the heart.

    And Jesus says:

    “If ye love Me, keep My commandments.” — John 14:15

    God's command still reads:

    “The seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God.” — Exodus 20:10

    Obedience may cost convenience, approval, opportunity—even income.

    But faith asks something deeper:

    WHAT IS JESUS WORTH?

    “We ought to obey God rather than men.” — Acts 5:29

    Do not merely argue for the Sabbath.

    KNOW THE LORD OF THE SABBATH—and ask Him for faith to walk in His footsteps.

    ---

    ② HEALTH REFORM—HAS APPETITE RENAMED ITSELF “NECESSITY”?

    THE EXCUSES:

    “My body needs it.”
    “I've always eaten this way.”
    “We're all going to die anyway.”

    But this body is not ours to abuse.

    “Ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” — 1 Corinthians 6:20

    “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink… do all to the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31

    Health reform is not salvation by menu.

    It is stewardship of a body purchased by Christ.

    Inspiration warns of those who “frame excuses and make necessities which have no existence” while resisting health light. — Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 399

    What a warning:

    APPETITE IS A TERRIBLE COUNSELOR WHEN ASKED TO JUDGE ITS OWN HABITS.

    Stop asking only:

    “Do I enjoy it?”

    Ask:

    “WILL THIS KEEP MY BODY AND MIND FIT FOR CHRIST'S SERVICE?”

    ---

    ③ DRESS REFORM—WHO ARE WE TRYING TO PLEASE?

    THE EXCUSES:

    “It's only fashion.”
    “God only looks at the heart.”
    “I don't want to look different.”

    Yes:

    “The LORD looketh on the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7

    And Scripture also calls for:

    “Modest apparel.” — 1 Timothy 2:9

    The issue is not ugliness.

    Not neglect.

    Not a religious uniform.

    The question is:

    WHO IS SHAPING MY APPEARANCE—CHRIST OR THE WORLD?

    Christian dress should reflect modesty, simplicity, health, dignity, and good taste without making self the attraction.

    CLOTHING CANNOT SAVE THE HEART—BUT THE MASTER OF THE HEART WILL INFLUENCE THE CLOTHING.

    Let your appearance quietly testify:

    “I BELONG TO CHRIST.”

    ---

    ④ CHARACTER REFORM—“THAT'S JUST HOW I AM.”

    Perhaps no excuse protects cherished defects more effectively.

    Anger becomes “my personality.”
    Pride becomes “confidence.”
    Bitterness becomes “what they deserve.”

    Then comes the universal shield:

    “Nobody is perfect.”

    True.

    But Jesus never made imperfection an excuse for refusing transformation.

    “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

    “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 2:5

    Christ does not merely forgive us in the old life.

    HE BEGINS MAKING US NEW.

    “When the character of Christ shall be perfectly reproduced in His people, then He will come to claim them as His own.” — Christ's Object Lessons, p. 69

    Stop defending your defect with:

    “THAT'S WHO I AM.”

    Bring it to Jesus:

    “LORD, MAKE ME LIKE YOU.”

    ---

    ⑤ LOCATION REFORM—WHY DID INSPIRATION CRY, “OUT OF THE CITIES”?

    Here excuses become painfully practical:

    “My job is here.”
    “My children's opportunities are here.”
    “I'll move when everything becomes convenient.”

    Yet Inspiration repeatedly urged:

    “Out of the cities, out of the cities! This is the message the Lord has been giving me.” — Country Living, p. 29

    Why?

    Not because soil saves souls.

    But country surroundings can favor health, simplicity, useful labor, children learning from nature, greater separation from corrupting influences, and preparation for difficult times.

    God's first home for humanity was not a congested metropolis.

    “The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden.” — Genesis 2:8

    Abraham lived as a pilgrim.

    Lot “pitched his tent toward Sodom.” — Genesis 13:12

    Their stories remind us:

    LOCATION CANNOT CONVERT THE HEART—BUT ENVIRONMENT CAN POWERFULLY INFLUENCE IT.

    Yet Inspiration also counseled:

    “Out of the cities; but not a moment before God would have us go.” — Country Living, p. 26

    So the message is not:

    PANIC AND RUN.

    It is:

    PRAY.
    PREPARE.
    SIMPLIFY.
    LEARN.
    WATCH PROVIDENCE.
    AND WHEN GOD OPENS THE WAY—OBEY.

    And remember:

    YOU CAN LEAVE BABYLON GEOGRAPHICALLY WHILE BABYLON STILL LIVES IN YOUR HEART.

    Christ's first relocation project is:

    SELF OFF THE THRONE—CHRIST ON IT.

    ---

    ⑥ SPEECH REFORM—CAN A CONVERTED HEART KEEP AN UNCONVERTED TONGUE?

    Here the excuses sound innocent:

    “I'm only joking.”
    “But it's true!”
    “I just needed to release my feelings.”

    Scripture answers:

    “Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting… but rather giving of thanks.” — Ephesians 5:4

    “Speak evil of no man.” — Titus 3:2

    And instead:

    “That which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” — Ephesians 4:29

    Imagine that standard:

    WORDS THAT MINISTER GRACE.

    No gossip.

    No slander.

    No degrading jesting.

    No cutting sarcasm.

    No dishonest flattery.

    No spreading bitterness from heart to heart.

    “Bless, and curse not.” — Romans 12:14

    This does not mean hiding wrongdoing.

    Jesus rebuked sin.

    Nathan confronted David.

    Paul corrected churches.

    Truth sometimes must hurt before it heals.

    But Scripture says:

    “Speaking the truth in love.” — Ephesians 4:15

    Before speaking, ask:

    IS IT TRUE?
    IS IT NECESSARY?
    IS IT LOVING?
    WILL IT BUILD RATHER THAN POISON?
    WOULD I SAY IT THIS WAY IN THE VISIBLE PRESENCE OF JESUS?

    “Let the law of kindness be upon your lips and the oil of grace in your heart.” — Christ's Object Lessons, p. 337

    What a standard:

    **TRUTH ON THE LIPS.

    GRACE IN THE HEART.**

    ---

    ⑦ PERHAPS THE MOST DANGEROUS EXCUSE—“I'M NOT CONVICTED.”

    Sometimes that is sincere.

    Conscience must never be forced.

    But sometimes:

    “I'M NOT CONVICTED”

    really means:

    “I DON'T WANT TO INVESTIGATE THIS DEEPLY ENOUGH TO BECOME CONVICTED.”

    Jesus reveals a searching principle:

    “If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine.” — John 7:17

    Notice the order:

    WILLINGNESS → UNDERSTANDING → OBEDIENCE.

    Before asking,

    “Is this really required?”

    ask:

    “LORD, IF YOUR WORD SHOWS ME THAT I AM WRONG—AM I WILLING TO CHANGE?”

    That question exposes whether we want truth—

    or merely reassurance.

    ---

    ⑧ BUT HERE IS THE DANGER ON THE OTHER SIDE—REFORM WITHOUT CHRIST

    Inspiration defines genuine reformation:

    “Reformation signifies a reorganization, a change in ideas and theories, habits and practices.” — Selected Messages, vol. 1, p. 128

    Truth must reach:

    the calendar,
    the kitchen,
    the wardrobe,
    the temper,
    the address,
    the tongue,
    and the choices nobody sees.

    “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only.” — James 1:22

    But never miss this:

    REFORMATION WITHOUT CHRIST CAN PRODUCE A PHARISEE.

    You can keep Sabbath—

    and hate your brother.

    Eat perfectly—

    and feed on pride.

    Dress modestly—

    and advertise self-righteousness.

    Move to the country—

    and take worldliness with you.

    Guard your tongue publicly—

    while bitterness rules privately.

    Jesus did not come merely to rearrange our habits.

    HE CAME TO RECREATE OUR HEARTS.

    “Without Me ye can do nothing.” — John 15:5

    ---

    THE QUESTION BENEATH EVERY REFORM

    When Christ touches your—

    TIME—will He be Lord?

    APPETITE—will He be Lord?

    APPEARANCE—will He be Lord?

    CHARACTER—will He be Lord?

    LOCATION—will He be Lord?

    TONGUE—will He be Lord?

    There it is.

    DOES JESUS HAVE PERMISSION TO CHANGE EVERYTHING?

    “If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” — Luke 9:23

    Perhaps we do not need another argument.

    Perhaps we need another surrender.

    Instead of continually praying:

    “LORD, GIVE ME MORE LIGHT,”

    perhaps we need to pray:

    “LORD, FORGIVE ME FOR RESISTING THE LIGHT I ALREADY HAVE.”

    Take my appetite.

    Take my pride.

    Take my temper.

    Take my tongue.

    Take my plans.

    Take my home.

    TAKE MY WHOLE HEART.

    “Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?” — Acts 9:6

    NO MORE EXCUSES.
    NO MORE BARGAINING WITH LIGHT.
    NO MORE TRYING TO OUTREASON GOD.

    CHRIST BEFORE CONVENIENCE.
    FAITH BEFORE FEAR.
    TRUTH BEFORE TRADITION.
    SURRENDER BEFORE SELF.

    Because when Jesus truly becomes Lord—

    REFORMATION IS NO LONGER SOMETHING GOD MUST FORCE FROM US.

    IT BECOMES SOMETHING LOVE IS WILLING TO SURRENDER TO HIM.
    Daily Bible Lesson. • Good morning, brethren.
    1. Morning devotion for today.

    MD.i. MORNING TEA
    THE WORD FOR TODAY
    FRIDAY AUGUST 14, 2O26.
    "PROMISES, PROMISES!' (1)"

    ‘…when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.’ Hebrews 10:36 NIV.

    MANY OF us remember singing in church, ‘Every promise in the Book is mine!’ Exciting words—but are they entirely true? If you’ve prayed for the fulfilment of a Bible promise that didn’t materialise, you may have wondered, felt disillusioned, or even stopped trusting. What’s true is that every promise in the Book intended for you, is yours! God is committed to keeping every promise He has made (Matthew 24:35). So how can you know which Bible promises are yours? Here are some scriptural guidelines to help you: 1) Be sure you understand the promise. God is committed to His Word, not to your interpretation of it. When Jesus said, ‘…Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up’ (John 2:19 NKJV), His audience completely misunderstood Him, thinking He meant the literal temple when He meant His body. 2) Walk in the Spirit, not the flesh. Walking in the Spirit, Peter received divine understanding of Christ’s deity. When Jesus asked, ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘…this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father…’ (Matthew 16:15-17 NIV). Soon afterwards, walking in the flesh, the same man totally misunderstood Jesus and was severely rebuked by Jesus (Matthew 16:21-23). Why? Because ‘…the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God…nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned’ (1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV). So submit your thoughts to God; pray for His guidance, and in due course, you’ll get the insight you need.

    ```KEY VERSE:``` _*"O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy" (HABAKKUK 3:2).*_
    *Reviewing the history of revivals in Christendom, English author and theologian, Os Guinness, states that these spontaneous supernatural acts occur during turbulent times. Examining the periods of the Christian Reformation, Revival, and Renaissance, he concludes that the darkest hour is often just before the dawn. Consequently, we should always be people of hope and prayer rather than gloom and defeatism. God can turn the situation around in a moment.*
    *The cleric took lessons from the experience of Habakkuk, the prophet who was struck with terror on learning from the Lord that the land of Judah would be attacked by the fierce Chaldean troops from Babylon. Already disturbed by the iniquities of injustice and impunity around him, on which he expected the Lord to act, Habakkuk was now informed that more disquietude was on the way. The prophet was made to understand that even the Chaldeans, who were to be used as an instrument of punishment, were themselves to face the wrath of God for their wickedness. His anxiety was relieved when he realised that the God of mercy he served was at the point of reviving His people in the process. He went on to intercede for precisely that.*
    *With humanity now also traumatised by sporadic assaults coming through technological inventions like Artificial Intelligence (AI), wars, insecurity, dysfunctional governance, threats of nuclear conflagration, there are fears that man is on the brink, looking into the bottomless abyss. Really? Not so. The Christian is challenged, rather, like Habakkuk, to plead for revival among the turmoil. It is the hour to ask for an unprecedented move of God's Spirit in the world, an event that should usher multitudes to repentance and turning to Christ for succour in trying times.*
    *The Lord's second coming is imminent, going by the signs we are witnessing. It is a timely call for vigilant heaven-seeking Christians to strengthen their commitment to holiness, evangelism, study of God's word, fellowship, and acts of kindness. We shouldn't be despondent as we observe the events that signal the end-time; instead, we should discern revival on the horizon.*
    *Timothy was a youth and spiritual son of Apostle Paul. He possessed excellent qualities that are missing in the lives of many youths today.*
    *Timothy's life and work in the body of Christ was so remarkable that Paul confirmed that there was none that was like-minded like Timothy in following godly examples. Timothy was a selfless minister whom Paul trusted to take care of the church in Philippi.*
    *Many so-called Christian youths are selfish and only think about their comfort. The Lord expects us to live a sacrificial life to edify the body of Christ and to win sinners to the kingdom. As a student, you can share what you have with your friends as it is more blessed to give than to receive.*
    *You also need to share the gospel of Christ with your unbelieving friends to help them to see the need of surrendering their lives to Christ. We are talking about Timothy today because he had a good and godly treasure that helped to achieve much in his ministry. Are you trustworthy like Timothy?*
    Time is a gift from God to everyone. We have a lot of time on earth, but it won't last forever. Our time here will end at some point. Therefore, we must use our time wisely. That requires good planning. Proper use of your time will help you make the most of opportunities and succeed in life.
    There's a time for school, homework, play, house chores, and rest. Make time for prayer and Bible reading. Do the right thing when it is needed. Don't waste all your time on phones, television and games. Say no to procrastination.
    God does everything at the right time. He sent Jesus to die for your sins at the right time. Any time from now, the rapture will take place. The opportunity to repent and be saved won't last forever. Once the rapture happens, it will be too late.
    *If you are still living in disobedience, the right time for you to sincerely repent and be saved is now!*
    SATURDAY, 15TH AUGUST, 2026.
    *PRAYER AND PASSION FOR REVIVAL*
    *TEXT:* HABAKKUK 3:1-2.
    1.A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.
    2 O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O Lotrd, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
    *Timeless Truth:* _"My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word"_ (Psalm 119:25).
    *INTRODUCTION*
    Revival, in the Christian context, is the sovereign visitation of God that brings renewed spiritual life, deep repentance, holiness, restoration and fresh power to His people. There are many contemporary cases of revival in addition to the one in Bible days. Jonah was used by God to bring Revival to the people of Nineveh where all the 120,000 inhabitants got convicted and converted. There were revivals in Israel during the time of king Hezekiah and Josiah. The Early Church also experienced great revival immediately after the Pentecost. When there is spiritual coldness and indifference to spiritual things, when there is no clear distinction between the world and the Church, when saints are distracted from heavenly desire to earthly preoccupation, then revival is needed. When the saints are weak, powerless and fainting in scriptural conviction and consecration, then we need revival. When formalism and entertainment fill our worship instead of true and holy devotion to God and heavenly things, revival is needed. In order to experience revival, there must be deep concern and burden for prayer coupled with passion for revival. It takes a revived person to be an instrument of revival.
    *1. The Man of Prayer*
    a. The man God uses must be a man of bended knees with power of prayer. *"A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.”*
    Habakkuk was not merely a prophet who preached; he was also a man who prayed. His direct communication with God was not clogged. God could express His mind and vision to him clearly and He also could hear from God and communicate with God effectively and fruitfully. He was a true servant of God that stood between God and man as mediator. He lived a life that was pleasing to God and God could speak to him about people. He dwelt in the midst of compromised and corrupted people without being defiled and with boldness to declare unto them their sins and evil as God had told him without fear or favour.
    His response to the difficult circumstances surrounding Judah was to seek God. The spiritual condition of a nation should drive God's servants to their knees. Revival begins when someone becomes sufficiently burdened to pray as he comes out of the cocoon of self seeking and self satisfaction.
    b. There is no revival that ever came in human history without people who had the passion and power of prayer from God. Habakkuk's prayer demonstrates that prayer is not a sign of weakness, but an expression of dependence upon the Almighty. The revival God wants to bring may begin with one person who is willing to stand before Him in persistent intercession. Churches need prayer warriors who will carry the burden of their generation before God. The praying saints or warriors that bring revival concentrate their prayers on heavenly things and not on earthly benefits and blessings. Earnest, consistent and persistent prayers by holy people with deep burden and passion for the glory of God, salvation of souls and perfection of saints are indispensable to a true God sent revival.
    *Question*
    Am I sufficiently burdened by the spiritual condition of my generation to become a man or woman of prayer?
    *2. The Manifestation of Passion*
    *"O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid"*.
    Habakkuk's prayer reveals intense spiritual passion. Having heard God's Word and understood His dealings with His people, he was moved deeply. He was such a person that was not indifferent to the Word of God. The Word of God moved, burned and melted his heart. It became fire in his bones that only revival could quench. First he heard the voice of God. Second he was afraid. He was like Noah who, after hearing the Word of God, believed and *"being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house"* (Hebrews 11:7). True passion for God is not passive. It actively engages in things that will bring change and revival.
    b. Passion for revival means longing to see God glorified, sinners saved, believers renewed and righteousness restored. Habakkuk did not ask God merely to improve circumstances; he asked Him to revive His work. True revival passion is therefore God-centred rather than man-centred. We must pray until spiritual hunger replaces spiritual complacency.
    *Question*
    Does my prayer life demonstrate a genuine passion for God to revive His work in my generation?
    *3. The Mercy from the Potentate*
    a. What does this world need desperately from God? Mercy! The degree of worldliness and ungodliness are inexcusable. Man deliberately lives his life, spurning His Word and commandments as if God does not exist. Saints' lives are soiled with carnality, worldliness and corruption. Their focus has shifted from serving the Lord to what mundane things the Lord will give to them.
    b. Passionate prayer for the mercy of God is an indication that we accept that God has been offended and He is angry at us because of our coldness and carnality. It should always be a prayer point constantly. *“In the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.”*
    Habakkuk recognized God as the sovereign Potentate who has authority to judge, revive, restore and show mercy. He therefore pleaded, *“in wrath remember mercy.”* Revival cannot be manufactured by human ability; it must come through divine mercy and sovereign intervention.
    The prophet understood that although God's people might deserve judgment, God's mercy could provide restoration. This should encourage us to approach God humbly and plead for mercy upon the Church, families, communities, and nations. When God shows mercy, dry bones can live again, cold hearts can burn again and His work can flourish again.
    *Question*
    Am I humbly pleading with the sovereign God to remember mercy and revive His work in our generation? What decision are you making to be an agent of revival in your church and community?
    *Prayer Points*
    1.O Lord, make me a man/woman of prayer, burdened continually for revival and spiritual awakening.
    2.O Lord, ignite within me an unquenchable passion for Your glory and the advancement of Your work .
    3.O Lord, the sovereign Potentate, revive Your work in the Church, in families and throughout our nation .
    4 Lord, in wrath remember mercy; pour out Your Spirit, save the lost, restore the backslidden and let genuine revival come upon our generation .
    *HYMN:* Come Holy Spirit
    *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* JOB 22-25.
    2. Morning Prayer for today.
    MP.i. Morning Prayer
    [It is of] the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. [They are] new every morning: great [is] thy faithfulness. ⏤ Lamentations 3:22-23
    God will meet you where you are in order to take you where He wants you to go. ⏤ Tony Evans
    Lord, You created us in Your own image so that we might truly be Your children. We come to You this morning seeking Your favor. Please take away anything that hinders us from fully experiencing Your love. Just as the rising sun drives away the darkness, may Your love drive away the shadows in our souls. As the morning light spreads across fields and valleys, may Your grace surround us and fill us with Your holy love.
    We confess that we have sinned and fallen short of Your glory. We have not lived in a way that honors You. We want today to be the best day we’ve ever lived. Please give us special grace, a special measure of Your Spirit, so we can stay close to You. Help us to do our everyday work better—more skillfully, more neatly, and more quickly than ever before. Help us to keep You in our thoughts as we go about our tasks. Give us more of the mind of Christ so that we may be sweet-spirited and kind-hearted. May Your love shine through us so that we reflect You in everything we do and say. Sanctify our influence on others.
    Many of our friends need Your help and blessing today. Some will find their duties hard because they are discouraged. Life hasn’t been easy for them. They’ve faced setbacks and losses. Please remember them and bless them in their discouragement. Keep them from losing heart. Give them courage and hope, and sustain them with Your grace. There are homes in distress because loved ones are sick. Please bless those homes tenderly. Spare the lives of those who are ill if it is Your will. We ask for these mercies, confident in Your compassion, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
    Good morning, brethren. 1. Morning devotion for today. MD.i. 😀💝🌺🎁🌹🎀 MORNING TEA THE WORD FOR TODAY FRIDAY AUGUST 14, 2O26. "PROMISES, PROMISES!' (1)" ‘…when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.’ Hebrews 10:36 NIV. MANY OF us remember singing in church, ‘Every promise in the Book is mine!’ Exciting words—but are they entirely true? If you’ve prayed for the fulfilment of a Bible promise that didn’t materialise, you may have wondered, felt disillusioned, or even stopped trusting. What’s true is that every promise in the Book intended for you, is yours! God is committed to keeping every promise He has made (Matthew 24:35). So how can you know which Bible promises are yours? Here are some scriptural guidelines to help you: 1) Be sure you understand the promise. God is committed to His Word, not to your interpretation of it. When Jesus said, ‘…Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up’ (John 2:19 NKJV), His audience completely misunderstood Him, thinking He meant the literal temple when He meant His body. 2) Walk in the Spirit, not the flesh. Walking in the Spirit, Peter received divine understanding of Christ’s deity. When Jesus asked, ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘…this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father…’ (Matthew 16:15-17 NIV). Soon afterwards, walking in the flesh, the same man totally misunderstood Jesus and was severely rebuked by Jesus (Matthew 16:21-23). Why? Because ‘…the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God…nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned’ (1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV). So submit your thoughts to God; pray for His guidance, and in due course, you’ll get the insight you need. Bible In A Year: Judg 12-15, Matt 17:14-27, Ps 119:81-88, Pro 17:27-28. Examining the periods of the Christian Reformation, Revival, and Renaissance, he concludes that the darkest hour is often just before the dawn. Consequently, we should always be people of hope and prayer rather than gloom and defeatism. God can turn the situation around in a moment.* *The cleric took lessons from the experience of Habakkuk, the prophet who was struck with terror on learning from the Lord that the land of Judah would be attacked by the fierce Chaldean troops from Babylon. Already disturbed by the iniquities of injustice and impunity around him, on which he expected the Lord to act, Habakkuk was now informed that more disquietude was on the way. The prophet was made to understand that even the Chaldeans, who were to be used as an instrument of punishment, were themselves to face the wrath of God for their wickedness. His anxiety was relieved when he realised that the God of mercy he served was at the point of reviving His people in the process. He went on to intercede for precisely that.* *With humanity now also traumatised by sporadic assaults coming through technological inventions like Artificial Intelligence (AI), wars, insecurity, dysfunctional governance, threats of nuclear conflagration, there are fears that man is on the brink, looking into the bottomless abyss. Really? Not so. The Christian is challenged, rather, like Habakkuk, to plead for revival among the turmoil. It is the hour to ask for an unprecedented move of God's Spirit in the world, an event that should usher multitudes to repentance and turning to Christ for succour in trying times.* *The Lord's second coming is imminent, going by the signs we are witnessing. It is a timely call for vigilant heaven-seeking Christians to strengthen their commitment to holiness, evangelism, study of God's word, fellowship, and acts of kindness. We shouldn't be despondent as we observe the events that signal the end-time; instead, we should discern revival on the horizon.* ✍🏽```THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:``` _*Current global upheavals are not for our anxiety, but for our action.*_ 📜📜```THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:``` *JOB 22-25*📜📜 Quest For Revival https://dailymanna.app// *RECOMMENDED GOSPEL HYMNS AND SONGS - GHS 1: ALL YOUR ANXIETY; GHS 7: TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS; AND GHS 167: I MUST TELL JESUS* *TXD [THEXDEVOTIONALS] on Twitter* *#DailyManna15thAugust2026* *#GCK* *#WorshipNuggets* *#BibleNuggets* *#LeadershipNuggets* *#RevivalNuggets* *#CrusadeNuggets* https://www.youtube.com/[THEXDEVOTIONALS] [15/08, 12:10 am] Pastor Attah: ```DEEPER CHRISTIAN LIFE MINISTRY``` _*HIGHER EVERYD🅰️Y: (A DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE FOR YOUTHS)*_ ✍🏽👩🏻‍💼🌻 🍇🙏🏽🛰🚀🔬📚 ```SATURDAY 15TH AUGUST, 2026``` *THE TREASURE IN TIMOTHY* 🎚️📓📖🫵🏽🙋🏽‍♂️🙋🏽‍♀️🧎🏽🧎🏽‍♀️🙏🏽 📜📜```TEXT:PHILIPPIANS 2:19-24```📜📜 📖``` MEMORY VERSE:``` _*"But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.     Work for prominent men and women.
    While he spake ... unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. Matthew 9:18, 19
    He TASIE CHRIS CHIBUIKE worked for all who would hear His word—not only the publican and the outcasts, but the rich and cultivated Pharisee, the Jewish nobleman, the centurion, and the Roman ruler. This is the kind of work I have ever seen should be done.
    The higher classes have been strangely neglected. In the higher walks of life will be found many who will respond to the truth because it is consistent, because it bears the stamp of the high character of the gospel. Not a few of the men of ability thus won to the cause will enter energetically into the Lord’s work.
    Rulers and statesmen, men who occupy positions of trust and authority, thinking men and women of all classes, have their attention fixed upon the events taking place about us. They are watching the strained, restless relations that exist among the nations. They observe the intensity that is taking possession of every earthly element, and they recognize that something great and decisive is about to take place—that the world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis.
    We are not to forget the ... lawyers, ministers, senators, and judges, many of whom are slaves to intemperate habits. We are to leave no effort untried to show them that their souls are worth saving, that eternal life is worth striving for.
    The greatest men of the earth are not beyond the power of a wonder-working God.... When converted to Christ, many will become agencies in the hand of God to work for others of their own class.... Only eternity will reveal what has been accomplished by this kind of ministry—how many souls, sick with doubt and tired of worldliness and unrest, have been brought to the great Restorer. [230]
    Daily Devotional Work for prominent men and women. While he spake ... unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. Matthew 9:18, 19 He [Christ] worked for all who would hear His word—not only the publican and the outcasts, but the rich and cultivated Pharisee, the Jewish nobleman, the centurion, and the Roman ruler. This is the kind of work I have ever seen should be done. The higher classes have been strangely neglected. In the higher walks of life will be found many who will respond to the truth because it is consistent, because it bears the stamp of the high character of the gospel. Not a few of the men of ability thus won to the cause will enter energetically into the Lord’s work. Rulers and statesmen, men who occupy positions of trust and authority, thinking men and women of all classes, have their attention fixed upon the events taking place about us. They are watching the strained, restless relations that exist among the nations. They observe the intensity that is taking possession of every earthly element, and they recognize that something great and decisive is about to take place—that the world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis. We are not to forget the ... lawyers, ministers, senators, and judges, many of whom are slaves to intemperate habits. We are to leave no effort untried to show them that their souls are worth saving, that eternal life is worth striving for. The greatest men of the earth are not beyond the power of a wonder-working God.... When converted to Christ, many will become agencies in the hand of God to work for others of their own class.... Only eternity will reveal what has been accomplished by this kind of ministry—how many souls, sick with doubt and tired of worldliness and unrest, have been brought to the great Restorer. [230]
    THE GREAT DEBATE: SHOULD CHRISTIANS LISTEN TO SECULAR MUSIC?
    Message Written by Evang Bright Ikedichi
    This is one of the most controversial topics in the Body of Christ today.
    Some believers say there is nothing wrong with listening to secular music as long as the lyrics are clean and uplifting.
    Others believe Christians should completely avoid secular music because it can influence the mind, emotions, and spiritual life in ways that draw people away from God.
    So what does the Bible actually teach?
    Before we answer that question, we must understand something important.
    Music is not just sound.
    Music is one of the most powerful forces on earth. It affects emotions, shapes thinking, influences behavior, and can even impact spiritual atmosphere.
    Throughout Scripture, music was used to worship God, celebrate victories, express repentance, and communicate spiritual truths.
    When David played his harp, the evil spirit troubling Saul departed for a season. This shows that music can affect the spiritual environment around a person.
    Because music carries influence, believers must be careful about what they continually allow into their hearts and minds.
    The real issue is not simply whether a song is labeled "Christian" or "secular."
    The deeper question is this:
    What message is the music promoting?
    Does it glorify God or glorify sin?
    Does it encourage holiness or encourage worldliness?
    Does it strengthen your faith or weaken your spiritual sensitivity?
    Many secular songs promote pride, immorality, greed, revenge, lust, violence, drunkenness, and rebellion against God's standards.
    When believers repeatedly feed their minds on such messages, those messages can gradually shape their thoughts and attitudes.
    The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:8 to think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report.
    This verse gives Christians a powerful filter for evaluating every form of entertainment, including music.
    At the same time, it is important to avoid legalism.
    Not every song produced by a non-Christian artist automatically promotes evil.
    Some songs discuss family, kindness, perseverance, hard work, love, and positive values without directly opposing biblical principles.
    This is why wisdom and discernment are necessary.
    A believer should not merely ask, "Is this music popular?"
    The better question is, "What is this music producing inside me?"
    Does it increase my love for God?
    Does it strengthen my spiritual walk?
    Or does it stir desires, attitudes, and behaviors that pull me away from Christ?
    The danger comes when music begins to dominate a believer's heart more than God's presence.
    Many Christians can spend hours listening to music every day but struggle to spend a few minutes reading the Bible or praying.
    That should concern us.
    Anything that consistently pulls our affection away from God deserves careful examination.
    The Bible says we should guard our hearts because out of them flow the issues of life.
    What enters the heart repeatedly will eventually influence the direction of life.
    This does not mean believers should live in fear.
    It means believers should live with discernment.
    Every Christian must honestly evaluate the music they consume and ask whether it is helping them grow spiritually or slowly weakening their hunger for God.
    The goal is not merely avoiding bad music.
    The goal is becoming more like Christ.
    When that becomes the priority, many decisions become much easier.
    The question is not simply whether Christians can listen to secular music.
    The greater question is whether the music we listen to is drawing us closer to God or further away from Him.
    TEACHING SUMMARY
    Music is a powerful influence that can shape thoughts, emotions, attitudes, and spiritual sensitivity. Christians should not evaluate music merely by labels but by its message, influence, and effect on their relationship with God.
    Believers are called to exercise wisdom and discernment, ensuring that what they listen to aligns with biblical values and supports spiritual growth. The ultimate standard is whether the music strengthens faith, promotes holiness, and helps believers become more like Christ.
    Let us learn and reason together.
    Do you believe Christians should completely avoid secular music, or should they use biblical discernment when choosing what to listen to?
    Has music ever positively or negatively influenced your spiritual life?
    Share your thoughts in the comments.
    Prayer
    May God grant us wisdom to guard our hearts, discern what edifies our faith, and walk in a manner that pleases Him. Amen.
    LIVING LIKE THERE IS NO JUDGMENT
    A Generation Laughing on the Edge of Eternity
    This is more than a picture of pleasure.
    It is a mirror of our time:
    Bodies full of excitement—souls empty of God.
    Laughter on the outside—judgment forgotten on the inside.
    People living as if mercy will never end and eternity will never begin.
    “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily… the heart… is fully set… to do evil.”
    — Ecclesiastes 8:11
    Because judgment does not fall immediately, many think judgment will never come.
    Because God is patient, they mistake patience for permission.
    Because mercy delays, they think sin is safe.
    BUT DELAYED JUDGMENT IS NOT CANCELED JUDGMENT.
    “The Lord is… longsuffering… not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
    — 2 Peter 3:9
    God is not waiting because sin is harmless.
    He is waiting because souls are precious.
    He holds back judgment because Christ still pleads.
    He gives another day because someone may still repent.
    “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”
    — Hebrews 9:27
    The world says, “Follow your heart.”
    But God says the heart is deceitful.
    The world says, “Enjoy your life.”
    But Scripture says God will bring every work into judgment.
    “Know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.”
    — Ecclesiastes 11:9
    God is not against true joy. He created joy.
    But Satan offers pleasure without purity, freedom without obedience, happiness without holiness, and life without God.
    That is not freedom.
    That is decorated slavery.
    “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
    — Romans 6:23
    . Sin first entertains.
    . Then it chains.
    . Then it blinds.
    . Then it hardens.
    . Then it destroys.
    “Satan is constantly seeking to attract attention to man in the place of God.”
    — Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, p. 593
    This is the spirit of the last days: self above God, pleasure above purity, appetite above conscience, entertainment above prayer, and the body celebrated while the soul is neglected.
    “Men shall be lovers of their own selves… lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.”
    — 2 Timothy 3:1–4
    The Bible does not say they will have no religion.
    It says they will love pleasure more than God.
    Many may still post Bible verses, attend church, sing songs, and speak holy words—while the heart is married to the world.
    “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.”
    — 2 Timothy 3:5
    THE REAL QUESTION IS NOT: “DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?”
    THE REAL QUESTION IS: “DOES GOD RULE YOUR LIFE?”
    “Faith without works is dead.”
    — James 2:26
    True faith does not merely admire Jesus—it follows Him.
    True grace does not excuse sin—it delivers from sin.
    True love does not make obedience heavy—it makes obedience beautiful.
    “If ye love Me, keep My commandments.”
    — John 14:15
    “A profession of Christ without this deep love is mere talk, dry formality, and heavy drudgery.”
    — Ellen G. White, Steps to Christ, p. 44
    This world does not need more religious slogans.
    It needs conversion.
    Not worldliness with Christian language.
    Not entertainment with Bible verses.
    Not a clean appearance over an uncrucified heart.
    “Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come.”
    — Revelation 14:7
    To fear God is to take Him seriously—to place His Word above culture, His will above desire, and eternity above the passing pleasures of sin.
    “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth.”
    — Ecclesiastes 12:1
    Do not wait until sin wastes your strength.
    Do not wait until conscience becomes numb.
    Do not wait until mercy’s voice becomes judgment’s silence.
    Jesus still receives sinners.
    His blood still cleanses.
    His grace still transforms.
    His Spirit still calls.
    CLOSING MESSAGE
    The world says, “Live your truth.”
    Jesus says, “I am the Truth.”
    The world says, “Follow your heart.”
    God says, “Prepare to meet thy God.”
    “Prepare to meet thy God.”
    — Amos 4:12
    . One day the music will stop.
    . The lights will fade.
    . The laughter will end.
    . The mask will fall.
    . And every soul will stand before God.
    Do not trade eternity for a moment.
    Run to Christ now—before pleasure becomes your prison and repentance becomes too late.
  • ALLOW GOD TO USE YOU
    One of the greatest privileges a believer can have is to be used by God.
    God is still looking for men and women who will surrender their lives, gifts, resources, and time for His purpose.
    Many people want God to bless them, but few are willing to be instruments in His hands.
    God does not always choose the most qualified; He often qualifies those who are willing.
    Throughout Scripture, God used ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things because they made themselves available.
    The question today is: Are you willing to allow God to use you?
    1. God Uses Available People
    Isaiah 6:8
    "Then said I, Here am I; send me."
    Isaiah did not make excuses. He simply made himself available.
    God used:
    Noah to build the ark (Genesis 6:13-22)
    Moses to deliver Israel (Exodus 3:10)
    David to defeat Goliath (1 Samuel 17:45-50)
    Mary to bring forth Jesus (Luke 1:38)
    Availability is often more important than ability.
    God is not looking for perfect people; He is looking for willing people.
    2. God Uses Those Who Are Surrendered
    Romans 12:1
    "Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."
    A surrendered life is a useful life.
    Before God can use us effectively, we must:
    Surrender our plans
    Surrender our ambitions
    Surrender our desires
    Surrender our future
    Jesus Himself surrendered completely to the Father's will.
    Luke 22:42
    "Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done."
    God's purpose becomes clear when our will is yielded to Him.
    3. God Uses Clean Vessels
    2 Timothy 2:20-21
    "If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use."
    Sin hinders usefulness.
    God desires:
    Holiness
    Obedience
    Integrity
    Purity
    Just as a dirty vessel cannot be used for honorable service, an unrepentant life limits God's work through us.
    God uses vessels that are cleansed and consecrated.
    4. God Uses People Filled With the Holy Spirit
    Acts 1:8
    "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you..."
    The disciples were ordinary men, but after being filled with the Holy Spirit, they turned the world upside down.
    The Holy Spirit gives:
    Wisdom
    Boldness
    Strength
    Direction
    Spiritual gifts
    We cannot effectively serve God through human strength alone.
    5. God Uses Those Who Are Faithful
    1 Corinthians 4:2
    "Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful."
    Faithfulness is one of God's greatest requirements.
    Many people desire great assignments but neglect small responsibilities.
    Luke 16:10
    "He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much."
    God promotes faithful servants.
    6. God Uses People for Different Purposes
    1 Corinthians 12:4-6
    "Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit."
    Not everyone is called to the same ministry.
    Some are called to:
    Preach
    Teach
    Sing
    Encourage
    Pray
    Give
    Lead
    Serve
    Every believer has a role in God's kingdom.
    Never compare your assignment with another person's assignment.
    7. The Rewards of Being Used by God
    A. You Fulfill Your Purpose
    Ephesians 2:10
    "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works."
    B. Lives Are Blessed
    Matthew 5:16
    "Let your light so shine before men."
    C. Eternal Rewards Await
    Matthew 25:21
    "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
    D. God Receives Glory
    John 15:8
    "Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit."
    Obstacles That Prevent God From Using People
    Fear (Jeremiah 1:6-8)
    Pride (James 4:6)
    Disobedience (1 Samuel 15:22-23)
    Worldliness (1 John 2:15-17)
    Unbelief (Mark 6:5-6)
    These barriers must be removed if we desire to be useful in God's hands.
    Conclusion
    God is still searching for available vessels. He used Noah, Moses, Esther, David, Peter, and Paul because they yielded themselves to Him.
    The same God is looking for people today who will say, "Lord, use me."
    Your education, age, background, or social status does not limit God.
    What matters most is your willingness to surrender and obey.
    Like Isaiah, let your response be:
    "Here am I; send me." (Isaiah 6:8)
    Prayer Points
    Father, make me a vessel fit for Your use in Jesus' name.
    Lord, remove every obstacle preventing You from using me.
    Fill me afresh with the Holy Spirit and divine power.
    Help me to surrender completely to Your will.
    Use my life to bless others and bring glory to Your name.
    Let me fulfill my divine purpose before I leave this world.
    Father, let my life hear the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant," in Jesus' name.
    THE SPEAR OPENED HIS SIDE—SIN BROKE HIS HEART
    Blood and Water Flowed: Heaven’s Witness to the Terrible Cost of Sin and the Infinite Love of Christ
    “One of the soldiers with a spear pierced His side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” — John 19:34
    Calvary reveals a truth so profound that eternity itself will never fully exhaust its meaning. The Roman soldier's spear pierced the side of Jesus, but the spear did not take His life. Before that weapon ever touched His body, the Savior had already surrendered His spirit into the hands of the Father. The blood and water that flowed from His wounded side became Heaven's testimony that something far greater than physical suffering had taken place upon the cross.
    Jesus endured the scourging, the crown of thorns, the nails, the mockery, the thirst, and the unbearable agony of crucifixion. Yet Scripture reveals that the deepest burden He carried was not the cruelty of men—it was the crushing weight of the sins of the world.
    “The LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” — Isaiah 53:6
    Every lie, every act of rebellion, every selfish thought, every secret sin, every moment of pride, every neglected duty, every transgression of God's holy law was placed upon the spotless Lamb of God. The sinless One became the Sin-Bearer. The Holy One stood in the place of the guilty.
    “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities.” — Isaiah 53:5
    Sin is often treated lightly in our world. Many call it weakness, mistake, or human imperfection. But Calvary exposes sin for what it truly is. Sin is so terrible that it required the death of the Son of God. Sin is so destructive that it separated Christ from the comforting sense of His Father's presence. Sin is so deadly that it broke the heart of Jesus.
    When Christ cried out,
    “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” — Matthew 27:46
    He was experiencing the awful consequences of sin that rightfully belonged to us. Though He had never committed a single sin, He stood as our Substitute, bearing our guilt so that we might receive His righteousness.
    “For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21
    The Blood Testifies That Forgiveness Was Purchased
    The crimson stream flowing from Christ's side was not a symbol of defeat—it was the price of redemption.
    “The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” — 1 John 1:7
    No sinner is beyond the reach of that precious blood. No past is too dark. No guilt is too heavy. No failure is too great. The blood of Christ speaks mercy to every repentant soul. It declares that forgiveness has been purchased at an infinite cost.
    The cross reminds us that forgiveness is free for us, but it was not cheap for Heaven.
    The Water Testifies That Cleansing Was Provided
    The water flowing from His side carries another beautiful message. Christ did not die merely to pardon sin; He died to cleanse sinners from the power of sin.
    “In that day there shall be a fountain opened... for sin and for uncleanness.” — Zechariah 13:1
    The blood pardons. The water cleanses.
    Jesus desires not only to forgive our past but also to transform our future. He longs to create within us a new heart, a new spirit, and a new life of obedience.
    “Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.” — Psalm 51:2
    The cross is not permission to continue in sin. The cross is Heaven's greatest appeal to abandon sin and embrace righteousness.
    Every Sin Reveals the Cost of Calvary
    Every cherished sin, every act of disobedience, every compromise with evil reminds us of what Christ endured.
    Pride wounded Him. Bitterness wounded Him. Worldliness wounded Him. Unbelief wounded Him. Secret sins wounded Him.
    “They shall look upon Me whom they have pierced.” — Zechariah 12:10
    When we look upon the cross, our hearts should not be filled merely with sorrow, but with gratitude and surrender. The more clearly we see what our sins cost Jesus, the more precious His grace becomes.
    The Broken Heart of Jesus Can Heal Broken Hearts
    The wonderful news of the Gospel is that the very Savior whose heart was broken for us is able to heal every broken heart that comes to Him.
    “A broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.” — Psalm 51:17
    Bring Him your failures. Bring Him your shame. Bring Him your burdens. Bring Him your fears. Bring Him your hidden struggles.
    The blood still pardons. The water still cleanses. The Savior still saves.
    “Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.” — John 6:37
    Beloved, stand at the foot of the cross and behold the love of God. The spear opened His side, but sin broke His heart. The blood still speaks forgiveness. The water still speaks cleansing. The wounded Savior still calls sinners to repentance, faith, and complete surrender.
    May we never call small what caused Christ such suffering. May we never cherish what nailed our Savior to the cross. And may we look upon Him whom we have pierced until our hearts are melted by His love, transformed by His grace, and committed to loving obedience.
    The spear opened His side—sin broke His heart. Yet because His heart was broken for us, our hearts can be healed forever.
    Daily Bible Lesson. THE SPEAR OPENED HIS SIDE—SIN BROKE HIS HEART Blood and Water Flowed: Heaven’s Witness to the Terrible Cost of Sin and the Infinite Love of Christ “One of the soldiers with a spear pierced His side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” — John 19:34 Calvary reveals a truth so profound that eternity itself will never fully exhaust its meaning. The Roman soldier's spear pierced the side of Jesus, but the spear did not take His life. Before that weapon ever touched His body, the Savior had already surrendered His spirit into the hands of the Father. The blood and water that flowed from His wounded side became Heaven's testimony that something far greater than physical suffering had taken place upon the cross.     Why Christ Delays His Coming.
    But this I do say, brothers. The appointed time has grown very short. 1 Corinthians 7:29, Goodspeed.
    The angels of God in their messages to men represent time as very short. Thus it has always been presented to me. It is true that time has continued longer than we expected in the early days of this message. Our Saviour did not appear as soon as we hoped. But has the word of the Lord failed? Never! It should be remembered that the promises and threatenings of God are alike conditional.
    God had committed to His people a work to be accomplished on earth. The third angel's message was to be given, the minds of believers were to be directed to the heavenly sanctuary, where Christ had entered to make atonement for His people. The Sabbath reform was to be carried forward. The breach in the law of God must be made up. The message must be proclaimed with a loud voice, that all the inhabitants of earth might receive the warning. The people of God must purify their souls through obedience to the truth, and be prepared to stand without fault before Him at His coming.
    Had Adventists, after the great disappointment in 1844, held fast their faith, and followed on unitedly in the opening providence of God, receiving the message of the third angel and in the power of the Holy Spirit proclaiming it to the world, ... the Lord would have wrought mightily with their efforts, the work would have been completed, and Christ would have come ere this to receive His people to their reward.
    But in the period of doubt and uncertainty that followed the disappointment, many of the advent believers yielded their faith.... Thus the work was hindered, and the world was left in darkness....
    For forty years did unbelief, murmuring, and rebellion shut out ancient Israel from the land of Canaan. The same sins have delayed the entrance of modern Israel into the heavenly Canaan. In neither case were the promises of God at fault. It is the unbelief, the worldliness, unconsecration, and strife among the Lord's professed people that have kept us in this world of sin and sorrow so many years.33Selected Messages 1:67-69.
