The first version of a story can sound incredibly convincing.

But hearing someone’s account first doesn’t mean we suddenly know everything that happened. And it certainly doesn’t mean we should allow their experience to determine how we treat someone we’ve never spoken to ourselves.

There may be another side we haven’t heard.

Someone comes to you with information about another person.

Before accepting their version, taking a side, or carrying that information somewhere else, there’s a question worth asking:

Why are you telling me this?

Can I actually help resolve it? Is somebody unsafe? Do I have responsibility here? Or am I being recruited into a conflict that was never mine?

How does a conflict between two people eventually spread through an entire group?

Sometimes nobody explicitly tells us what to think. They simply plant enough seeds that we begin viewing another person through suspicion—and then those seeds get carried somewhere else.

This goes deeper than gossip.

Were you called “mature for your age” growing up?

Maybe you were responsible, independent, the easy child, the peacemaker—the one who learned to read the room before you even understood why you were doing it.

Those things can look like strength from the outside. But what happens when the strength you learned as a child follows you into adulthood?

What do you pray when you’ve reached the point where you simply can’t carry everything anymore?

Moses didn’t give God a polished answer or pretend he was handling everything just fine. He brought God the truth about where he was.

Sometimes faith isn’t pretending we’re stronger than we are.

What do you do when something really ends and there’s no going back to the way things were?

Maybe moving forward with God doesn’t mean pretending it didn’t hurt. Maybe it doesn’t mean rushing into the next season or trying to recreate the life you had before.

Maybe the prayer simply becomes, “God, show me how to follow You from here.”

Hours spent in prayer, studying God’s Word, seeking wisdom, and carrying the burdens of people who are hurting, grieving, struggling, or searching for hope. Faithful shepherds carry much more than a message—they carry a deep concern for the flock Christ has entrusted to them. May we remember to pray for those who faithfully serve His Church.

This week I was reminded that faithful shepherds carry far more than a sermon. They carry the people God has entrusted to them—their families, marriages, children, joys, sorrows, and souls. It’s a responsibility that points us back to Christ, the Chief Shepherd, and reminds us to pray for those who faithfully care for His flock.

If you’ve ever felt called to write the book, start the podcast, or create something God has placed on your heart, let this encourage you.

I had no idea what would come from Unpolished but Called when I began. I simply knew I needed to be obedient. Looking at where it is today reminds me that we don’t need to have everything figured out before we begin.

Sometimes obedience is simply saying yes and trusting God with what comes next.

Start where you are. Give Him the glory.

July was one of those months that reminded me why I keep doing this.

Books found new readers. The podcast reached new people. Conversations happened that I never expected, and somehow this little show is still hanging out in the Top 10 on Goodpods.

But the numbers aren’t really what I’ll remember.

I’ll remember the people, the conversations, the encouragement, and all the little ways God reminded me that obedience reaches places we may never see.

What a month.

To God be the glory for every bit of it.

July was one of those months that reminded me why I keep doing this. Books found new readers. The podcast reached new people. Faithful shepherds spend countless hours studying God’s Word, praying, interceding, and caring for the people Christ has entrusted to them. It’s a reminder to pray for those who faithfully shepherd God’s flock.

One of the things I love most about Jesus’ ministry is that He consistently noticed the people everyone else overlooked. He didn’t measure someone’s worth by their influence, position, or what they could offer Him. Instead, He stopped, listened, served, and loved.

May we learn to see people the way Christ sees them—not as opportunities to gain something, but as people made in the image of God who are worthy of our love and attention.

“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.” — Romans 12:10 (KJV)
