I grew up in a remote, rugged, and underprivileged hilly region. It was within this challenging environment that I was raised in a traditional family where my ancestors served as devout priests of the Hindu faith. Since my childhood, I remember my grandfather, who owned his own temple in our locality and performed the duties of a chief priest with utmost dedication. As the eldest son of the family, the mantle of this spiritual lineage and responsibility naturally passed down to my father after my grandfather's passing.
Growing up in these isolated hills, I watched my father devote his life to offering pujas and rituals to various gods and goddesses. Yet, despite his relentless efforts to please millions of deities throughout the year, he never found true peace in his heart. The constant burden of trying to satisfy an endless pantheon of gods left him with a deep, lingering spiritual emptiness.
It was during this time, by a divine orchestration, that my father’s life took a profound turn. One day, while visiting a local marketplace down from the hills, an unfamiliar person handed him a Christian tract. The following week, when he returned to the market, the same individual gave him more literature. Intrigued, my father began reading these tracts regularly and with deep concentration.
Driven by a newfound spiritual hunger, he contacted the address listed at the bottom of the tract and enrolled in a one-year Bible correspondence course via the Post Office. Upon successful completion of the course, he received a brand new Bible. He immersed himself in it, reading the entire Holy Scripture from cover to cover with great devotion.
The living Word of God transformed his heart. He shared this good news with my mother, and together, they made the life-altering decision to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
After embracing Lord Jesus, my father could not keep this joy to himself. Utilizing the knowledge and profound experience he gained from his postal Bible course, he began preaching the Gospel across our difficult mountain terrains. Through my father's ministry, a group of 40 people from our village were the first to accept Jesus. Later on, his continued outreach brought countless more people into the fold of Christ. Despite the geographic isolation and challenges of our area, his tireless dedication and faithful witnessing transformed many lives.
Hearing my father preach and witnessing his living faith amidst the hills allowed me to grow up knowing and experiencing the Lord personally.
Today, my father is very ill and frail. Because of his declining health, he can no longer travel across these remote terrains to continue his ministry. Therefore, I have stepped forward to take up the mantle of his unfinished work. Carrying the torch my father lit in these mountains, I am dedicated to continuing this missionary work daily, committing myself to fulfilling the Great Commission in our region.
