He walked into Beirut alone, unarmed, trusting men he had no reason to trust, because four hostages needed someone brave enough to try. Terry Waite had already secured the release of hostages in Iran and Libya, so when the Church of England needed an envoy to negotiate in Lebanon, he didn't hesitate. In January 1987, he arrived in Beirut believing he'd been promised safe passage to visit ailing captives. Instead, his captors broke their word and seized him. What followed was almost unthinkable. Terry spent 1,763 days in captivity, the first four years entirely in solitary confinement, chained to a wall, denied books, denied contact, denied any certainty he'd ever see home again. Most men would have been consumed by despair. Terry wasn't. He composed poetry in his head, held onto his faith, and quietly resolved that bitterness would not be the thing that defined him. When he finally walked free in November 1991, church bells rang out across Britain in celebration. He could have spent his remaining years angry at what was taken from him. Instead, he chose forgiveness, dedicating his life to charity work and supporting former hostages who understood, better than anyone, what he had endured. That's not just courage. That's true British grit.

Just 20 minutes before the incident at Big Church Festival, I was sharing a brand-new Pause for Thought that I’ll be doing on BBC breakfast next week, exploring the themes of “empty walls”, grief, disappointment and loss at Dai’s spoken word venue Myself and the Moses Brothers ended the piece by singing “It Is Well.” Those words echoed around that venue with such faith. We had no idea that just 20 minutes later, only a few metres or so from the stage, a freak accident would happen — and lives would be changed forever. I’m sitting in disbelief and grief, trying to process the questions that have no easy answers so much that’s going on in the world right now. And yet, through the tears, I find myself trying to raise a quiet “It is well.” Not because everything is well. It isn’t. But because I believe God is still there in the middle of the questions. In the heartbreak. In the silence. In the moments when we don’t understand. Sometimes faith isn’t a triumphant song — sometimes it’s simply holding onto God when you can barely hold onto anything else. So I’m praying for everyone affected, for those carrying unimaginable grief, and for the hope that somehow, even in the darkest moments, God’s light will keep breaking through. ‘It is well with my soul’. 🤍 even if we can only muster it as a whisper right now Oh that this abiding ache of grieving hearts for so much in the world right now, would be daily orientated toward the approaching moments of inevitable restoration- both in the now and most certainly in the not yet. @mosesbros @bigchurchfest

Here are photos of my maternal Grandmother Constance Mary Harrison who was a student at a ladies college in Manchester, England in the early 1900's and of her wedding photo to John Mould ( known as Jack ) in the English Lake District in 1916.

Here are some of my Ancestors from my Maternal Grandfather's side. Grandfather's name was John Mould ( commonly-called Jack ) and the family latterly moved from Lancashire, England . His father was Thomas Mould had owned a clothing store in Lancashire but took the family to County Durham in the late 19th century. My grandfather (a cobbler's apprentice ) and his younger brother Robert eventually moved with their then widowed mother Mary ( nee Dowson ) to North Yorkshire and took up farming. WHAT IS YOUR ANCESTRAL STORY ?
