I have been a Christian since 1986 and a tradie since 1990. I went through Bible college and served through youth ministry, worship leading, small groups and church leadership roles. In construction, I started as a commercial builder’s laborer, then moved into carpentry and building.
I worked in numerous roles from carpenter, residential builder, foreman, site and project manager for government and private firms in the residential, commercial and property development arenas.
2023 saw a pivot into teaching in a local state high school in ITD and construction subjects which gives me the opportunity to transfer my experience onto my students.
My wife and I attend Anthem Church on the Sunshine Coast. I make an excellent latte, enjoys bacon on the weekends, as do our dogs.

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17 NIV)
Toolbox Talk:
Time is a resource God expects you to manage well. Part of living wisely is spending your time wisely. We lose days to distractions and pointless activities. If you want to move forward, choose what’s important and guard it. You don’t have to have a perfect schedule. What you really need are clear priorities and fewer distractions.
Jobsite Story:
In construction, your time is either being used to build something or it's being lost. I started tracking how I spent my site hours on complex projects and was consistently surprised by what I found. Time not managed is time that gets consumed by whoever has the most urgent request.
Debrief:
Where does your time leak most: phone, interruptions or saying yes to many times?
What is one time block you will protect this week?
Prayer:
Lord, help me use time wisely. Show me what to cut and what to protect. Amen.
Takeaway:
Protect what matters.

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” (Proverbs 25:28 NIV)
Toolbox Talk:
Self-control protects you. Without it, anything can get in: anger, temptation, distractions and bad habits. With it, you make cleaner choices when pressure rises. Self-control isn’t personality. It’s daily decisions. One disciplined choice today strengthens you for tomorrow.
Jobsite Story:
I've seen big, capable blokes lose a client over a single outburst. I've seen quiet, disciplined tradies hold contracts for decades because they were always the same person regardless of frustration. Self-control isn't weakness dressed up. It's the actual measure of professional strength.
Debrief:
Where do you lack self-control most: spending, food or screentime?
What is one specific choice you will make today that builds strength?
Prayer:
Lord, strengthen my self-control. Help me choose what is right and refuse what drags me down. Amen.
Takeaway:
Build your walls.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2 NIV)
Toolbox Talk:
Discipline isn’t only what you do. It’s what you allow in. What you watch, scroll, listen to and repeat becomes part of you. Guarding your heart protects your choices before the pressure hits. If you keep feeding yourself rubbish, it shows up later in your mood, speech and actions. Protect your inputs and your life becomes more balanced, peaceful and enjoyable.
Jobsite Story:
I’ve seen blokes get sloppy at work because they were cooked mentally from late nights and constant noise. When they’ve curbed their habits, their focus and mood improved fast. Inputs always show up in outputs.
Debrief:
What input is dragging you down right now?
What boundary can you set today to protect your mind and heart?
Prayer:
Lord, help me guard my heart. Give me discipline with what I allow in and strength to hold boundaries. Amen.
Takeaway:
Protect your inputs.
