“Preparing to Meet a Holy God”
Introduction
Exodus 19 is one of the most significant turning points in Scripture. The Israelites have journeyed from Egypt’s bondage to the base of Mount Sinai, where they will meet the God who delivered them.
Three months have passed since their exodus, and now God invites them into a covenant relationship — not as slaves, but as His chosen people. Before He gives them the Ten Commandments (in the next chapter), God first reveals His heart and holiness. He reminds them that He carried them “on eagles’ wings” and brought them to Himself.

After three months of journeying through the wilderness, Israel arrives at Mount Sinai — the mountain of God. Here, they will meet the Lord personally and receive His covenant.

For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.”

But first, they must be cleansed and prepared.

And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire.
Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly. And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice.
The mountain shakes, thunder roars, and lightning flashes — a powerful display of divine majesty. God reveals His glory in a way that inspires awe and reverence.
