“The Final Warning”
Introduction
Exodus 11 brings the story of God’s confrontation with Pharaoh to its final moment. After nine devastating plagues, Pharaoh has hardened his heart again and again. Now God announces one last judgment — the death of every Egyptian firstborn.
This is not only an act of justice but also a message: God’s patience has limits, and rebellion always brings consequences. For God’s people, however, this chapter marks the beginning of freedom and deliverance.

Verses 1–2 – God Announces the Final Plague
And the Lord said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will surely drive you out of here altogether. Speak now in the hearing of the people, and let every man ask from his neighbor and every woman from her neighbor articles of silver and articles of gold.”
God reveals that one final plague will break Pharaoh’s resistance. This time, Israel will not simply be released — they will be driven out. Before leaving, God instructs them to collect silver and gold from the Egyptians, turning former slaves into a blessed people.
Lesson: When God delivers, He restores. He not only frees His people from bondage but ensures they do not leave empty-handed.
Verse 3 – God Gives His People Favor
And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.
Though hated by Pharaoh, Moses and the Israelites are honored by the Egyptians. God shifts the hearts of those around them, granting favor even in a hostile land.
Lesson: God can give you favor where there was once opposition. His power changes how others see you when His purpose is on your life.
Verses 4–6 – The Death of the Firstborn Announced
Then Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt; and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the female servant who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the animals. Then there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as was not like it before, nor shall be like it again.’”
God’s final act of judgment strikes at the very heart of Egypt — the firstborn. The same Pharaoh who once ordered the death of Hebrew babies will now experience loss in his own house.
Lesson: God’s justice is perfect. What we sow in rebellion, we eventually reap. His warnings are not idle
threats — His Word always stands.
Verses 7–8 – God’s Protection for Israel
“But against none of the children of Israel shall a dog move its tongue, against man or beast, that you may know that the Lord does make a difference between the Egyptians and Israel. And all these your servants shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, ‘Get out, and all the people who follow you!’ After that I will go out.” Then he went out from Pharaoh in great anger.
God makes a clear distinction between His people and Egypt. While judgment falls on the oppressors, His protection covers the faithful. Moses leaves Pharaoh’s presence with holy indignation — confident that God’s deliverance is near.
Lesson: God knows how to separate the righteous from the wicked. His protection is complete for those who belong to Him.
Verses 9–10 – Pharaoh’s Heart Remains Hard
But the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not heed you, so that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.” So Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh; and the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go out of his land.
Even with the final warning, Pharaoh’s heart remains hard. Yet God uses this defiance to magnify His glory through what will soon be the greatest deliverance in history.
Lesson: When people resist God, His power is not diminished — it is displayed. Every act of rebellion
becomes an opportunity for His glory to be revealed.
Application for Today
1. Don’t Ignore God’s Warnings: His patience is great, but His justice is certain.
2. Trust His Provision: God always prepares and provides for His people before deliverance.
3. Rest in His Protection: No darkness or judgment can touch what God covers.
4. Recognize the Consequences of Pride: A hardened heart leads to destruction.
5. Remember God’s Sovereignty: No one can hinder what God has determined to do.
Summary
