“Spirit-Filled Builders and Overflowing Generosity”
Introduction
Exodus 36 continues the story of obedience and unity among God’s people as they begin constructing the Tabernacle, the sacred dwelling place of God among them.
After being filled with the Spirit of God in wisdom, understanding, and skill, Bezalel and Oholiab now lead the work, assisted by every craftsman “whose heart the Lord had stirred.” This chapter beautifully illustrates how God’s plans are brought to life when His people work together in faith, skill, and devotion.
One of the most remarkable moments occurs when the people bring so many offerings that Moses has to tell them to stop — their generosity exceeds what is needed. This rare scene in Scripture shows what happens when hearts are fully yielded to God: abundance replaces scarcity.
Every curtain, clasp, board, and covering described in this chapter represents both obedience to God’s

Verses 1–2 – God’s Spirit Empowers the Workers
“And Bezalel and Aholiab, and every gifted artisan in whom the Lord has put wisdom and understanding, to know how to do all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, shall do according to all that the Lord has commanded. Then Moses called Bezalel and Aholiab, and every gifted artisan in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, everyone whose heart was stirred, to come and do the work.”
God appoints and fills His workers with wisdom and skill to complete the Tabernacle. Their abilities are not self-taught — they are Spirit-given for divine purpose.
Lesson: When God calls you to a task, He equips you completely. His Spirit turns natural talent into
supernatural ability for His glory.
Verses 3–5 – The People Give More Than Enough
“And they received from Moses all the offering which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of making the sanctuary. So they continued bringing to him freewill offerings every morning. Then all the craftsmen who were doing all the work of the sanctuary came, each from the work he was doing, and they spoke to Moses, saying, ‘The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which the Lord commanded us to do.’”
The people give so generously that the workers can’t keep up. Their love for God overflows into abundance.
Lesson: When hearts are moved by God’s presence, giving becomes joyful and generous. God’s work never lacks when His people’s hearts are willing.
Verses 6–7 – Moses Stops the Offerings
“So Moses gave a commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, ‘Let neither man nor woman do any more work for the offering of the sanctuary.’ And the people were restrained from bringing, for the material they had was sufficient for all the work to be done—indeed too much.”
Moses actually has to stop the people from giving — they had given more than enough! This rare moment reveals what true revival looks like.
Lesson: When love for God drives generosity, supply exceeds need. Abundance always follows obedience.
Verses 8–13 – The Curtains of the Tabernacle
“Then all the gifted artisans among them who worked on the tabernacle made ten curtains woven of fine linen and of blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim they made them. The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; the curtains were all the same size.
And he coupled five curtains to one another, and the other five curtains he coupled to one another. He made loops of blue yarn on the edge of the curtain on the selvedge of one set; likewise he did on the outer edge of the other curtain of the second set. Fifty loops he made on one curtain, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the curtain on the end of the second set; the loops held one curtain to another. And he made fifty clasps of gold, and coupled the curtains to one another with the clasps, that it might be one tabernacle.”
The skilled artisans craft the inner curtains exactly as God commanded. Every color and detail reflects
heavenly beauty and unity.
Lesson: God’s presence deserves excellence. When you build according to His pattern, beauty and unity
naturally follow.
Verses 14–19 – The Coverings of the Tabernacle
“He made curtains of goats’ hair for the tent over the tabernacle; he made eleven curtains. The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; the eleven curtains were the same size. He coupled five curtains by themselves and six curtains by themselves. And he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in one set, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the curtain of the second set. He also made fifty bronze clasps to couple the tent together, that it might be one. Then he made a covering for the tent of ram skins dyed red, and a covering of badger skins above that.”
The multiple layers protected the sanctuary. The fine inner beauty was shielded by simple outer coverings — symbolizing the hidden majesty of God’s glory.
Lesson: True holiness is often hidden beneath humility. What God builds within you is more beautiful than what others can see on the surface.
Verses 20–30 – The Boards and Structure
“For the tabernacle he made boards of acacia wood, standing upright. The length of each board was ten cubits, and the width of each board a cubit and a half. Each board had two tenons for binding one to another. Thus he made for all the boards of the tabernacle. And he made boards for the tabernacle, twenty boards for the south side. Forty sockets of silver he made to go under the twenty boards: two sockets under each of the boards for its two tenons. And for the other side of the tabernacle, the north side, he made twenty boards and their forty sockets of silver: two sockets under each of the boards. For the west side of the tabernacle he made six boards. He also made two boards for the two back corners of the tabernacle. And they were coupled at the bottom and coupled together at the top by one ring. Thus he made both of them for the two corners. So there were eight boards and their sockets—sixteen sockets of silver—two sockets under each of the boards.”
The strong acacia boards form the framework of God’s house, standing on silver sockets — the foundation of redemption.
Lesson: God’s house stands on redemption. The strength of every believer’s life is rooted in the price Jesus paid to make us His dwelling.
Verses 31–34 – The Bars of Unity
“And he made bars of acacia wood: five for the boards on one side of the tabernacle, five bars for the boards on the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle on the west side. And he made the middle bar to pass through the boards from one end to the other. And he overlaid the boards with gold, made their rings of gold to be holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.”
The bars held the structure together, ensuring unity and strength. Each piece was overlaid with gold, reflecting divine glory.
Lesson: God’s presence binds His people together. His Spirit is the “golden bar” that holds His Church in unity and strength.
Verses 35–38 – The Veil and the Entrance
“And he made a veil of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen; it was worked with an artistic design of cherubim. He made for it four pillars of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold, with their hooks of gold, and he cast four sockets of silver for them. He also made a screen for the tabernacle door of blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen, made by a weaver, and its five pillars with their hooks. And he overlaid their capitals and their rings with gold, but their five sockets were bronze.”
The veil and screen mark the entrance into God’s presence — beauty and holiness intertwined. The colors and cherubim reflect heaven’s perfection and God’s majesty.
Lesson: God’s presence is holy but accessible. Through Jesus, the true veil, we enter boldly into the glory of God’s presence with confidence and reverence.

1. Use Your Gifts for God: Every skill matters in His Kingdom — from craftsmanship to leadership, from
serving to singing.
2. Give Freely and Joyfully: When your heart belongs to God, giving becomes an act of love, not
obligation.
3. Build with Excellence: God’s presence deserves your best effort, attention, and devotion in every
task.
4. Stay United: Like the joined boards and curtains, the Church must work together in unity for God’s
presence to dwell among His people.
5. Remember the Veil Is Gone: Live with gratitude and boldness — Christ has made the way open for
constant fellowship with the Father.
