Success Hides the Shame of the Soul

A Word for Kingdom Business Leaders in Planning Season

This is the season when calendars are filling, budgets are being finalized, goals are being sharpened, and vision decks are being polished. Every metric is being examined. Every strategy is being refined. Every leader is asking the same question:

“How do we win next year?”

But there’s a quieter question most leaders avoid:

“Who am I becoming while I’m succeeding?”

Success is a powerful thing. It builds influence. It opens doors. It earns credibility. It multiplies opportunity.
But here’s the sobering truth:

Success can hide the shame of the soul.

You can be winning publicly while bleeding privately.
You can be scaling companies while shrinking spiritually.
You can be crushing numbers while quietly carrying unresolved wounds, fear, pride, insecurity, or exhaustion.

From the outside, it looks like fruit.
On the inside, it can still be famine.

Why This Matters in Planning Season

Planning season is when leaders naturally focus outward:

Growth targets

Market expansion

Product strategy

Talent acquisition

Revenue projections

But Kingdom leaders must also plan inward—because what you build externally will always be limited by what you avoid internally.

If next year’s strategy is bigger than your capacity to stay whole, the growth will eventually expose what success once concealed.

Many leaders don’t slow down because slowing down feels dangerous. Stillness threatens the false identities we’ve learned to survive with:

I am only valuable if I am producing.

I am only safe if I am winning.

I am only worthy if I am impressive.

Success can become a covering, rather than a calling.

The Kingdom Tension: Growth vs. Wholeness

In the Kingdom, growth is never separated from wholeness.
God cares about the health of the root, not just the height of the tree.

You can outgrow your character.
You can outrun your healing.
You can outpace your intimacy with God.

And when that happens, success doesn’t just mask shame—it quietly feeds it, because now your identity is tied to performance instead of sonship.

Jesus never measured success by platforms, profits, or popularity.
He measured it by surrender, obedience, humility, and fruit that remains.

Questions Every Kingdom Leader Should Ask Right Now

As you plan next year, don’t just ask:

What are we building?

How fast will we grow?

How much will we scale?

Also ask:

What in me still needs healing?

What am I avoiding with achievement?

Where has my success outpaced my soul?

Am I leading from wholeness—or from wounds?

Because whatever you ignore internally will eventually surface externally—often at the worst possible moment.

The Invitation of This Season

This season isn’t just about new vision.
It’s about new depth.

God is not only preparing your next level of influence—
He is preparing your capacity to carry it without losing yourself.

True Kingdom success doesn’t hide shame.
It heals it.
It redeems it.
It transforms it.

You don’t need another strategy as much as you need a surrendered heart that can sustain the strategy.

A Final Kingdom Truth

You are not valuable because your business is growing.
You are valuable because you are already known, loved, and chosen.

Let next year be the year you plan not just for:

Bigger numbers

Broader reach

Greater impact

But also for:

Deeper integrity

Stronger identity

Greater intimacy with God

And a soul that is no longer hiding behind success

Because the greatest leadership breakthrough is not external expansion—it is internal freedom.

This morning I was meditating on Matthew 7 and the following thought came to me.

"Enter through the narrow gate... For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it." Matthew 7:13-14 (NRSV)

Why is the path narrow and pressing?

Because it transforms you, from the inside out. That kind of transformation only happens through deep intimacy with Jesus.

Most people stay comfortable in who they’ve become, even if it’s far from who God created them to be. But comfort can quietly lead to idleness… and eventually, destruction.

When you truly follow Jesus, He doesn’t just lead you He molds you.
The narrow way stretches you, shapes you, presses you. It brings you to a place of full surrender, where you're no longer relying on your own strength but on His joy, peace, patience, righteousness, and love.

It’s in that surrendered space that His strength is made perfect in our weakness, not to make us look strong, but so He gets the glory through our obedience.
So if you’re feeling the pressure right now, don’t run from it.

That may be the exact place where God is shaping you into who you were always meant to be. Ask God to reveal the area to surrender to allow His perfect will to flow through you.

On 9/11 God woke me at 4:27 and as I was worshipping Him, He told me to add up all the digits of 4:27 and it equals 13 of course. Then I realized where He was going.

There are 13 attributes of the mercy of God. It was very heavy on my heart that God is communicating MERCY, MERCY, MERCY to this nation so that we will respond to His MERCY with REPENTANCE.

13 is also the number of God's supernatural power and mercy. 12 is the number of order (12 disciples, 12 tribes of Israel, etc.) but when you add Jesus to the disciples or count the number of names of Israel's tribes, the number is 13 - representing God's super interacting with our natural.
