🙌 The Annunciation and the New Creation Why did the angel say to the Virgin Mary: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God"? This was not only for the Lord's birth but also for us, because the Holy Spirit comes upon the waters of baptism, and the one born of the waters of baptism is sanctified and becomes a child of God in Christ. This beginning was the root or "origin" of the new creation in Christ, and here we must not ask how, but why; because when we enter the new life, we enter into communion within the Trinity. The Holy Spirit came upon her so that the Son might be born incarnate of the Virgin. And after Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon the community of apostles so that through teaching and the mystery of baptism, children of God might be born from the Church, called to the communion of the Lord Jesus and to the new life.
