The New Creation in Christ
The Son of the living God, the Lord Jesus Christ, the giver of life, came and gave us peace with the Father, demolished all human speculations, revealed that He is "the Resurrection and the Life," captured death and transformed its nature from destruction of life to destruction of sin; for He transformed this hidden disease—i.e., death on the cross—into a power for repentance, and made suffering and pain a cause of salvation, crucified greed with giving, selfishness by carrying the cross, killed envy with love, abolished adultery with the holiness of communion, and poured His life into us so that the Evangelist exclaimed in amazement: "Whoever is born of God does not sin" (1 John 5:18), thus revealing the life of the Lord in us, that which is born of the Father in the Son by the power and work of the Holy Spirit, and given to us.
We share in the sonship of the Son in this manner, as far as human words and meanings can convey:
Firstly, by the Lord's birth from the Virgin Mary, He transferred the human origin from nothingness to the Holy Spirit, the source of the creature's life.
Secondly, through Baptism, He anointed human nature and gave us the anointing of the Truth and the Holy One, i.e., the Spirit of truth the Comforter, the Spirit of the Son and the Spirit of holiness "who raised Jesus from the dead" (Romans 8:11), thus transferring the new human nature from the counsel of thought and the power of the will and the struggle for survival through wisdom to the counsel of holiness and life and the power of the life-giving Lord, thus granting it eternal stability.
Thirdly, He destroyed death on the cross and captured it by His death, and nailed it in us through the cross, so death, which is the fruit of sin, became the power working in us for repentance and life, thus transferring death into the economy of salvation, and death is no longer the power of the soul's separation from the body, but the power of the whole man's separation from sin. Death became the death of Jesus and not the death of the first Adam, and death was transformed into a power of salvation.
Fourthly, by His holy resurrection, He gave us immortality, conquered the corruption of the body, shut the mouth of Hades, and abolished the judgment and sentence of death.
Let us gather together these surpassing gifts: from existence according to the old nature to existence according to the new creation, so we see our return to God through the Holy Spirit. And from the counsel and thought of Adam to the counsel and work of the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. And from life closed under judgment to the life of immortality and the offering of body and spirit on the cross; so that the power of the Lord's resurrection and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit may be manifested.
