Daily devotion: Psalms 16:8-10

“I am always aware of the LORD’s presence; he is near, and nothing can shake me. And I am so thankful and glad, and feel completely secure, because you protect me from the power of death.”

We should all be dancing for joy! What a wonderful privilege it is to be a child of God. We’ve learned this week just how powerful God really is and how He always protects us. We are never alone, even if we may feel consumed by despair and darkness. He is the Light that shines ahead of us, leading us closer to His presence.

Living with a joyful heart is a gift from God – Ecclesiastes 2:26: “God gives wisdom, knowledge, and happiness to those who please him,”

We can find joy in God’s presence – 1 Chronicles 16:27: “Glory and majesty surround him, power and joy fill his Temple.”

True joy is a fruit of obedience to the Lord – John 15:10-11: “If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”

Happiness and joy are manifestations of our trust in God – 1 Peter 1:8: “You love him, although you have not seen him, and you believe in him, although you do not now see him. So you rejoice with a great and glorious joy which words cannot express,”

The Lord wants us to be happy – John 16:24: “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your happiness can be complete.”

Are you rejoicing or are you worrying? You now know that you need not worry and that nothing is stopping you from rejoicing in the Lord. Remember  that nothing pleases God more than when you rejoice in Him; glorify His Name then, sing, dance and shout your happiness to the world.

Philippians 4:4: “May you always be joyful in your union with the Lord. I say it again: rejoice!”
