Romans 8:3 NASB
For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

Legalistic people try to twist Romans 8:3 into the idea that the problem wasn't the law but the people were weak and failed to keep it.

Let's look again at what the verse said. "What the law could not do in that ๐’Š๐’• ๐’˜๐’‚๐’” ๐’˜๐’†๐’‚๐’Œ." Not just the people. "๐—ถ๐˜ ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜€ ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ธ." The law was weak. What was it weak at doing?

Romans 8:2 KJV
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

We weren't free, certainly not by the law. Jesus made us free.

Galatians 2:21 KJV
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Worse though... legalism tries then to say that the Holy Spirit empowers them to keep the law. In other words, they aren't weak in the flesh and, unlike the Israelites, they can now keep the law because they are strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

Bah -- the Holy Spirit was not given to us to help us in commandment keeping. The Holy Spirit helps us by teaching us and bringing things to remembrance.
John 14:26 NASB
โ€œBut the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.โ€

We do not strive to keep the law as believers. If we go to the law, for anything as a help to us, we are obliged to keep the entire law. If we fail in one point though, we are guilty of all of it.

Galatians 5:4-5 NASB
You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by the Law; you have fallen from grace. [5] For we, through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.
