*SERMON TITLE: SMALL STEPS, BIG MIRACLES*
*Text: 2 Kings 5:11* – _“But Naaman went away angry and said, ‘I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy.’”_
*Theme:* God often hides big miracles in small acts of obedience.
*INTRODUCTION*
Good morning, saints.
Naaman was not an ordinary man. He was a *mighty commander* in the army of Syria. He had rank, wealth, and respect. But there was one problem: *leprosy*.
His greatness could not heal him. His money could not buy his miracle. His title could not cover his shame.
So he went to the prophet Elisha expecting drama. He expected the prophet to come out, wave his hand, call on God loudly, and do something spectacular.
But God gave him something else: *“Go wash seven times in the Jordan River.”*
Naaman got angry. Why? Because God’s instruction looked too small for his big problem.
Today, God is telling someone: *Don’t despise small steps. Your big miracle is inside them.*
---
*3 TRUTHS ABOUT SMALL STEPS AND BIG MIRACLES*
*1. GOD’S WAYS ARE NOT OUR WAYS*
Naaman had a picture in his head of how God should work. _“I thought He would...”_
But God refused to follow Naaman’s script.
_Isaiah 55:8-9_ – _“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.”_
*Lesson:* God often works through unusual, simple, and humble means.
He used a river, not a stage. He used water, not fire.
Don’t limit God to your expectations. His way may look foolish, but it carries power.
_Boost:_ The same God who fed 5000 with 5 loaves and 2 fish can use your little seed, little prayer, little step to bring a big harvest.
*2. OBEDIENCE IN SMALL THINGS OPENS DOORS FOR BIG THINGS*
Elisha didn’t say “do 100 things.” He said “wash 7 times.”
That’s it. A simple, repetitive, humble act.
But Naaman’s pride almost cost him his healing. His servants had to tell him: _“If the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it?” 2 Kings 5:13_
*Lesson:* When you yield to God’s word in little things, He releases favour, healing, and breakthroughs.
God is testing your heart in the small before He trusts you with the big. _Luke 16:10_
*Examples:*
- The widow’s little oil became enough. _2 Kings 4:2-7_
- The boy’s little lunch fed multitudes. _John 6:9_
- Naaman’s 7 dips brought complete healing.
_Boost:_ Don’t wait for a “big calling” to obey. Obey the small instruction today and watch God do the big tomorrow.
*3. TRUSTING GOD BEYOND OUR EXPECTATIONS BRINGS SURPRISE BLESSINGS*
Naaman finally obeyed. He dipped 1...2...3...4...5...6...7 times.
And on the 7th dip, his flesh came back like that of a little child. _2 Kings 5:14_
He didn’t just get healed. He got a testimony that nations would hear.
*Lesson:* When we trust God beyond what makes sense to us, He surprises us with blessings far greater than we imagined. _Ephesians 3:20_
God is not interested in impressing you. He is interested in *healing you, promoting you, and restoring you.*
*APPLICATION: WHERE ARE WE RESISTING?*
*Reflection Question:* _Where might I be resisting God’s unusual instructions because they do not fit my expectations—and how can I choose obedience in the small things today?_
Maybe God is telling you to:
1. *Forgive that person* – small step, but it will unlock big peace.
2. *Pay your tithe and first fruit* – small seed, but it opens big doors.
3. *Serve in that department* – small service, but it leads to big promotion.
4. *Pray for 10 minutes daily* – small discipline, but it brings big fire.
5. *Apologize and reconcile* – small humility, but it restores big relationships.
Don’t let pride or “I thought God would...” rob you of your miracle.
---
*CONCLUSION*
Saints, God’s favour is not always loud. Sometimes it’s quiet.
Sometimes it’s not on a mountain. Sometimes it’s in a dirty river called Jordan.
*Small steps of obedience = Big miracles of God.*
Naaman discovered it. The widow discovered it. The disciples discovered it.
You can discover it too.
---
*PRAYER*
_Father, thank You that You are the true and living God and that You reward those who honour You. Teach me to obey even in the small things, trusting that Your ways lead to miracles. I believe that as I walk in obedience, You will release favour, healing, and open doors. In Jesus’ name, Amen._
*Prophetic Declaration:*
From today, I receive grace to obey God’s instructions, no matter how small. My Jordan is about to turn into my miracle. In Jesus’ name.
