Daily Devotion — September 13 | Acts 28:5 (NKJV)

Do Not Let the Attack Defeat You

Paul and the others had finally reached safety on the island of Malta after surviving the storm at sea. While Paul was gathering sticks for a fire, a poisonous viper came out because of the heat and fastened onto his hand. The people watching expected him to swell up or suddenly die.

Instead, Paul simply shook the creature into the fire and suffered no harm. What looked like a deadly attack did not have the final word over his life.

This moment reminds us that unexpected attacks can come even after we have made it through a difficult season. Paul had just survived a dangerous storm, yet another trial appeared almost immediately. Sometimes we may think that because we have overcome one difficulty, everything should become easy. But life can bring new challenges when we least expect them.

Paul did not panic or allow the snake to control him. He shook it off and continued serving. His response teaches us not to allow adversity to stop us from doing what God has called us to do.

There may be things that try to attach themselves to our hearts today—fear, discouragement, rejection, criticism, disappointment, or past failures. We do not have to carry them everywhere we go. Through God's strength, we can release them and continue moving forward.

Paul's experience also shows that God's protection and purpose were greater than the attack against him. The Lord had already promised that Paul would testify in Rome, and this unexpected danger could not prevent God's plan from being fulfilled.

When something comes against you, do not allow it to define you or destroy your faith. Bring it before God, shake it off, and keep moving forward in obedience.

Reflection Questions

1. What discouragement or attack am I allowing to remain attached to my heart
2. How can I respond to difficult situations with greater faith instead of fear
3. What has God called me to continue doing despite the challenges I am facing

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for being with me through every trial and unexpected attack. Give me strength not to be controlled by fear, discouragement, or the words of others. Help me to release what is weighing me down and continue faithfully in what You have called me to do. In Jesus name Amen.

Practical Application

- Give your fears and disappointments to God instead of carrying them
- Refuse to let criticism or setbacks determine your identity
- Continue faithfully serving God even when unexpected difficulties arise

Takeaway Thought

Do not let the attacks of life stop you from moving forward in God's purpose.
