What do you do when your sin can no longer be hidden?

Psalm 51 gives us one of Scripture’s clearest pictures of genuine repentance.
After David’s sin was exposed, he stopped making excuses and cried out for something far greater than relief from consequences. He asked God to cleanse him, change him, restore him, and use him again.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
—Psalm 51:10 LSB
Psalm 51 reminds us that repentance is more than saying, “I’m sorry.” It means agreeing with God about our sin and asking Him to transform what is happening inside of us.
God does not ask us to pretend our failures never happened. He invites us to bring them honestly before Him.
And the God who forgives is also the God who cleanses, renews, restores, and uses broken people again.
