• The Story Behind the Hymns
THE STORY BEHIND "BREATHE ON ME, BREATH OF GOD"

“Breathe on Me, Breath of God” is one of the most reflective and prayerful hymns in Christian worship. Its words were written by Edwin Hatch (1835–1889), an English theologian and professor known more for his academic work than for hymn writing. Interestingly, this hymn is the only hymn he is widely remembered for today.

The origin of the hymn traces back to a sermon Edwin Hatch delivered at the University of Oxford on Whitsunday (Pentecost) in the late 19th century. In that sermon, he reflected deeply on the work of the Holy Spirit in transforming the believer’s life. The message centered on how the Spirit of God renews, purifies, and empowers Christians to live according to God’s will. After delivering the sermon, Hatch wrote a short poem summarizing its central idea, a heartfelt prayer asking the Holy Spirit to breathe new life into the soul.

The imagery of “breath” in the hymn is deeply biblical. It echoes Genesis 2:7, where God breathes the breath of life into Adam, and John 20:22, where the risen Christ breathes on His disciples and says, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” By using this imagery, Hatch portrayed the Holy Spirit not as something distant, but as the very life-giving presence of God renewing the believer from within.

The hymn was first published in 1878 in a small collection connected to Hatch’s sermon. Its powerful simplicity quickly captured the hearts of worshippers. Unlike many Victorian hymns that were long and elaborate, Hatch’s text was short, direct, and deeply personal, making it feel like an intimate prayer rather than a formal song.

Several musical settings were later composed for the hymn, but the tune most commonly associated with it today is “Trentham,” composed by Robert Jackson in 1878. Jackson reportedly wrote the tune in just a few minutes during a church rehearsal break. The gentle, flowing melody perfectly matched the quiet spiritual longing expressed in the words, helping the hymn spread widely through churches across Britain and eventually around the world.

Each stanza of the hymn reflects a progressive spiritual journey. The first verse asks for the Spirit’s breath to fill the believer with life. The following verses pray for cleansing, surrender of the human will to God’s will, and finally complete transformation so that Christ’s life is fully reflected in the believer. The final line “Till all this selfish part of me glows with Thy fire divine”, expresses the desire for a heart purified and filled entirely with God’s presence.

Over the years, “Breathe on Me, Breath of God” has become especially associated with Pentecost services, prayer meetings, ordinations, and moments of spiritual renewal. Its enduring appeal lies in its humility and simplicity. Rather than celebrating human effort, the hymn acknowledges that true spiritual life begins only when God breathes His Spirit into the believer.

More than a century after Edwin Hatch penned those lines, the hymn continues to be sung across churches worldwide as a gentle prayer asking God for renewal, surrender, and transformation through the Holy Spirit.

  • Good evening , brethren.
    1. Evening devotion for today.

    ED.i. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST*
    (COCIN DEVOTIONAL)

    *DATE:*
    THURSDAY 28TH MAY, 2026.

    *SUB-THEME:*
    RESPONSE TO GRACE.

    *TOPIC:*
    GOOD WORKS.

    *TEXT:*
    EPHESIANS 2:10-11.
10 For we are God’s masterpiece, created in the Messiah Jesus to perform good actions that God prepared long ago to be our way of life.
    2Co 5:17 Eph 1:4 Eph 4:24 Tit 2:14 [Heb 3:4]
11 So then, remember that at one time you gentiles by birth were called “the uncircumcised” by those who called themselves “the circumcised.” They underwent physical circumcision done by human hands.

    *TOPIC:*
    GOOD WORKS.

    *THE MESSAGE:*
God saved us to fulfil His divine purposes. Our passage says, "We are created in Christ for good works. 'Good works in itself does not earn us salvation. However, faith in Christ must translate into good works (Jam. 2:26). God has a good plan for us. Interestingly, He had prepared what He wanted us to do for Him long before we were born. Therefore, you'll need to ask Him to show you where to fit into His purpose. Out of gratitude for God's gift of salvation, believers should use their skills and abilities to serve others with diligence, kindness, love, gentleness, and so on. They should not cheat or inflate bills in their place of service. Doing good works is not for our benefit; it overflows to building others, and it is pleasing to the Lord. Are your works good? Evaluate!

    *REFLECTION:*
Christ saved you to do good works.

    *PRAYER:*
Father, help me to be found doing good works at all times. Amen.

    *MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:*
    TITUS 2:12.
It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age.

    *TODAY'S BIBLE READING PLAN:*
    JOB 31-34.

    Watch therefore and pray always
    Luke 21:36

    Pray without ceasing
    1 Thessalonians 5:17

    High Standard

The literal translation of this verse in Luke begins:-“watch ye, then – in every season..” And the verse continues :- “praying…” Jesus sets an incredibly high standard – watching in every season and praying. Paul also sets a seemingly unreachable goal – pray without ceasing.

    Spiritual Behaviour

To watch in every season and pray without ceasing seems an unrealistic request, and yet we find both Christ and Paul giving believers a seemingly impossible task, but the physical action must be transliterated into a spiritual behaviour. Am I to be continually gazing out of the window or be forever crouched on my knees? Am I to neglect the daily duties of life or adopt the attitude of some pious monk?

    Godly Principle

Not at all. But the injunction is to keep Christ as the pivotal point of all life. We are to pray continuously in the spirit and to be always watchful in spirit and truth. Spiritual watching and spiritual praying are two sides of the same spiritual coin. The Pharisees and religious leaders failed to understand the ‘spirit’ of the Law. They became entangled in their attempts to perform the spiritual in the physical,` They tried to carry out the letter of the command rather than the godly principle.

    Spiritually Alert

We too must grasp the spirit of Christ’s earnest entreaties to watch and pray. We too must be unceasingly spiritual alert maintaining an unbroken attitude of heart. We are to clothe ourselves with a temperament of anticipated watchfulness. We are to develop a perspective of ceaseless prayerfulness. We are to watch and pray in spirit and in truth, at all times and without ceasing.

    Spiritually Equipped

For what purpose are we implored to carry out this magnificent task….? Often it’s in the context of Christ’s return. We are to be spiritually ready for His return. Often it’s connected with Satan’s attacks and we must be spiritually equipped. We are to be ready: for we do not know the day or the time that our Lord will come.. but our readiness should not be in fear but a dear desire to be with the One we love. We are to be equipped: for the enemy is a roaring lion seeking who to devour, – but our alertness should be a deep concern to stand fast in the evil day for His sake.

    Standing Firm

A watchful prayerfulness and a prayerful watch is linked is with patient endurance, and patient endurance is linked with standing firm in Christ. Patient endurance is to do with standing firm in the evil day, Paul warns us to:- “Stand therefore … and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:13 And the Lord Jesus Himself in this same context earnestly exhorts us to:- Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is” And He tells us:- “Take heed – See, I have told you all things beforehand.”

    Armour of God

We can’t buckle on our armour as we hear the mighty floodgates burst open.. We can’t practice being covered by Him as the raging waters engulf our lives. I believe God is stripping away all areas of support upon which we have relied. I believe He is preparing a remnant that will stand fast in that evil day. I believe God wants a few watchmen that’ll truly recognise the approaching day. I believe that those heeding His warning will have prepared beforehand.

    Be Ready

So how do we fulfil the continuous watch and unceasing prayer demanded here? For evil days will wax worse and worse and many will faint by the wayside.. Well the Lord Himself gives us the answers – we are not kept in the dark… He tells us – watch ye, then – in every season, praying that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that are about to come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man. Luke 21:36

    Constant Watchfulness

Philips in his translation of this passage writes:- Watch out – don’t let My sudden coming catch you out, don’t let it find you living in careless ease, carousing and drinking. Don’t let Me find you occupied with the problems of this life either, like all the rest of the world are. Keep a constant watch and pray that it’s possible that you may arrive in My presence without having to experience these horrors.

    Prepare Hearts

Should we not take the warnings of Christ as seriously as His precious promises? Should we not regard these words of scripture with equal care and caution? We are to guard our heart – in thought and word and deed and motive.. We are to obey His warning – and prepare our hearts for the days are evil.. We are to be ready and watch in every season and pray continuously. So that having done all we are able to stand firm – in Christ

    2. Evening Prayer for today.

    EP.i. Evening Prayer

This [is] the day [which] the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. ⏤ Psalm 118:24

A day without prayer is a day without blessing, and a life without prayer is a life without power. ⏤ Edwin Harvey

O blessed Jesus, whom we love even though we have not seen You, in whom, though we do not see You, we believe and rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory—we come to You at the close of another day. Abide with us, for it is evening, and the day is almost over. The night will be as bright as day if You are with us, for it is never dark where You are.

We bring to You the joys of this day. All the happiness we have experienced came from You. Every fragment of beauty we enjoyed was from Your hand. You made the blue skies, the green fields, the lovely flowers, the birds with their sweet songs, and all the beautiful things in this world. You made the children whose voices bring music into our homes. The sunshine is Yours, and the stars are from Your hand. It’s amazing what a beautiful world You have made just to be our home. Our hearts are full of praise as we think of all these things that show Your loving thought for us.

We lay our burdens down at Your feet. What we have done today, we bring to You for Your blessing, for no work is complete until it bears Your touch and blessing.

    Finish what we have begun.
Cleanse what our soiled hands have stained.
Correct what our clumsiness has marred.

If we have neglected any duty, forgive us and show us what it is so that we may still try to do it. Teach us more and more to be thoughtful, watchful, and alert so that we may do what we ought to do, that we may hear the cries of human need from weary hearts around us, calling us to acts of love. May we live ever closer to Jesus, and then we will know what we ought to do. Bless us, Father, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

How Science Led a World Leading Astronomer, Allan Sandage, to God.

For decades, the late Allan Sandage was heralded as the successor to Edwin Hubble, standing as a renowned astronomer and cosmologist who spent his life measuring the expansion of the universe and peering into the depths of deep time. As a giant in his field, Sandage was the first to accurately estimate the age of the universe and the rate of its expansion. Yet, the more he quantified the cosmos through the lens of high-level physics, the more he found himself confronted by a reality that telescopes alone could not explain. He famously transitioned from a state of scientific skepticism to a profound belief in God, concluding that the exquisite order of the universe was not a product of chaotic chance, but the deliberate fingerprint of a Master Architect.

Sandage’s shift was driven by the realization that science is exceptional at explaining how things work, but remains utterly silent on why they exist at all. As a world-class cosmologist, he observed that the mathematical precision required for the universe to sustain life—often referred to as "fine-tuning"—was so improbable that it defied naturalistic explanation. He argued that the existence of such a complex, coherent system pointed toward an underlying intelligence. In his view, the biological and cosmological evidence didn't just suggest a higher power; it made the existence of God the most rational deduction for a mind committed to following the evidence wherever it leads.

"It was my science that drove me to the conclusion that the world is much more complicated than can be explained by science. It is only through the supernatural that I can understand the mystery of existence." — Allan Sandage

Sandage’s journey proves that the more we learn about the heavens, the more we find the heart of the Father. He showed the world that true scientific inquiry doesn’t lead away from faith—it leads straight to the realization that we are not here by accident. By recognizing the limits of cold equations, this renowned astronomer joined a long line of great thinkers who saw the stars as a celestial testimony. His life stands as a powerful reminder that when we study the origin of the universe, we are truly beholding the handiwork of God.

  • Good evening, brethren.

    Evening devotion for today.

    i. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST*
    (COCIN DEVOTIONAL)

    *DATE:*
    THURSDAY 26TH FEBRUARY, 2026

    *SUB-THEME:*
    THE NATURE OF GOD'S GRACE

    *TOPIC:*
    USHERS IN THE NEW COVENANT

    *TEXT:*
    HEBREWS 8:3-7
    3. Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer.
    4. If He were on earth, He would not be a priest, for there are already priests who offer the gifts prescribed by the law.
    5. They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”
    6. But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which He is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.
    7. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.

    *TOPIC:*
    USHERS IN THE NEW COVENANT

    *THE MESSAGE:*
Today's text emphasises the necessity and superiority of Christ's priesthood. In the Old Testament, every High Priest had to offer gifts and sacrifices, implying that Christ, too, must offer a sacrifice, and He opted to offer His own life, which God accepted as the ultimate sacrifice. The Mosaic covenant was weak and ineffective in offering salvation. The earthly Tabernacle was a copy, not the actual dwelling of God. Christ serves as the mediator of a better covenant, ushering the worshipper into God's presence. The new covenant fosters a relationship with God based on grace, making us His tabernacle. Therefore, build your faith in Christ, not on mere rituals. As a beneficiary of the New Covenant, you have the privilege to access the presence of God and to enjoy His promises.

    *REFLECTION:*
Be a beneficiary of the new covenant.

    *PRAYER:*
Father, thank You for the new covenant. Amen.

    *MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:*
    ISAIAH 26:10.
"Though grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness, they go on doing evil and regard not the majesty of the Lord."

    *TODAY'S BIBLE READING PLAN:*
    DEUTERONOMY 18-20.

    ii. HOW TO RESIST TEMPTATION

"Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel." - Philippians 1:27

The Bible says that the evil one goes around like a roaring lion looking for prey to devour. Devouring means to eat something greedily and quickly. This is what the evil one does when he seduces God's children. He does not care how much pain you have, because he has no mercy.

You are also not immune to his seductive power. The closer you live to God, the more the evil one will try to take you away from God. Jesus says: 'Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat' (Luke 22:31). The wicked do not have to be seduced by the evil one. They already live in sin anyway.

    Be happy with temptation

When you are a child of God, it is not strange that you are tempted by the evil one, because he tries that with all of God's children. That is why the Bible says in James 1:2: 'Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.'

You might ask: 'Why should I be joyous?' Well, God allows these temptations. He seeks people who are able to say afterwards: 'It was such a fierce battle but praise the Lord: God was with me. Hallelujah.'

    God trusts His child

Getting into temptations is not a sign of weakness. No, it is an honor when you face temptations. It is a sign that God trusts His child. That is why He allows this. You can say in every circumstance of life: 'God is with me. I don't have to be scared. The evil one is powerless.' You have the shield of faith with which you can extinguish his flaming arrows.

The evil one is a fool. If you know the almighty power of God, you are able to laugh at the tricks of the evil one. You can resist him in the name of Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit and with the Word of God.

    2. Evening Prayer for today.

Amen.

Good evening, brethren. Evening devotion for today. i. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST* (COCIN DEVOTIONAL) *DATE:* THURSDAY 26TH FEBRUARY, 2026 *SUB-THEME:* THE NATURE OF GOD'S GRACE *TOPIC:* USHERS IN THE NEW COVENANT *TEXT:* HEBREWS 8:3-7 3. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” 6. But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which He is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises. 7. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. *TOPIC:* USHERS IN THE NEW COVENANT *THE MESSAGE:* Today's text emphasises the necessity and superiority of Christ's priesthood. *REFLECTION:* Be a beneficiary of the new covenant. *PRAYER:* Father, thank You for the new covenant. Amen. *MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:* ISAIAH 26:10. What Does It Mean to Repent?

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

A man walked into a bank, handed the teller a threatening note and walked out with a bag of money. The man was never caught, but the whole thing has authorities baffled. It began a few months later when the bank received an envelope which had been mailed from a distant city containing a cashier’s check in the name of a Mr. R. E. Morse as in the word “remorse.” Along with one of the checks was the following note: “My faith in Christ as my Savior has impelled me to undertake this reimbursement and I hope to be able to pay it off within six months.”

A bank official said, “I’ve heard of people coming forward and admitting complicity in criminal activity years before, but this is the first time I’ve seen anything like this.” Such is the power of a smitten conscience which produces real repentance—hence, the pseudonym—R. E. Morse. Now, if genuine repentance and remorse were more common, perhaps the bank officials wouldn’t be quite so shocked at what took place.

Remorse is regret over something; repentance is positive action to make restitution for what was done. The word repentance, or repent, is found in the New Testament more than 50 times. The book of Hebrews lists it as an elementary doctrine of Christ—one of the foundational truths of the New Testament. Now, the early church took repentance seriously. Paul talked about it in letters to the Romans, the Corinthians, and to Timothy. The writers of Hebrews and Peter also discussed it. When Luke recorded the great commission, he included repentance as being part of the command laid down by Jesus Himself. “And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem” (Luke 24:47).

Now, the fellow who robbed the bank became remorseful when he was converted, but he was genuinely repentant when he began to do something about his wrong by returning the money. In a very real sense, repentance is one of the sterling marks of genuine conversion—it’s obvious that God has wrought a work in your life when you become repentant. Question. Can a person be genuinely converted without repentance? Not according to Scripture. Jesus Himself commanded, “Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”

Let me illustrate. Suppose you were in Tokyo and you received a telegram saying, “Return to Manila immediately.” To return to Manila, you must leave Tokyo; there’s no conceivable way you could get to Manila without leaving Tokyo. You can’t get to one without leaving the other. Now, genuine conversion demands leaving where you are, and that spells repentance.

But there is even more to the concept than the outward actions. There is an internal, heart element as well. The Greek word metanoia comes from two words—meta meaning to change, and noia meaning mind or thought; hence, real repentance is a revolution of thought—a complete change of mind which results in a different kind of behavior.

Perhaps real repentance will lead the person who robbed the bank to step forward and also accept the due consequences of his action. As J. Edwin Orr has written, “In other words, whenever a believer realizes that his life falls short of the standards of the Gospel, he must return to his change of mind, heart, and life, as at the beginning.” A renewed believer thus becomes equipped to preach a message of repentance through his life to his friends and neighbors, and to share in the repentance for national sins. “If we confess our sins,” says the Bible, “he’s faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). It’s still true today.

  • Chapter 48 Daughters of Babylon

In the previous chapter, Babylon is identified as the church of false worship. False worship is the supposed worship of the true God, but turns out to be a false God. Modern Christianity carries the name of Christ but more than 99% do not worship the real Christ. Trinitarianism defines the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to be three equal partners in ruling the universe, suggesting an arbitrary decision on the roles to be played in the salvation of man. One member volunteered to be the Son and thus gave Himself as a sacrifice for mankind. The second was willing to be God omnipresent in the form of the Holy Spirit, and the remaining partner accepted the role of being the Father, in charge of the process of salvation.

This understanding of the Godhead turns the terms for the Father and the Son used in the whole of the New Testament into role-play. The Father isn’t a real father, and the Son isn’t a real son. The apostle John defines those people and churches that do not recognise the Father as the real father of Christ as the antichrist:

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

This verse indicates that if we deny that God is the real Father, and Jesus is the real Son, we reject Jesus as the Christ. We reject His salvation. Such are liars because they claim to believe in Christ and His Father, but deny their relationship. They deny the real God and His Son, and are therefore worshipping a false godhead where the father and son and spirit are coequal partners. Trinitarianism is the worship of the Babylonian gods of Baal, Ishtar and Tammuz, garbed in the robes of “Christian” gods. Trinitarians worship other gods before the real One True God and Father, breaking the first law in the decalogue:

Ex 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Trinitarianism was established by the Council of Nicaea (AD 325) and the Council of Constantinople (AD 381). This doctrine is fundamental to the Mother church. Many other non-biblical doctrines developed through the ages, and when the apostate church became completely corrupt, the Reformation took place. Many of the false doctrines were done away with in the Reformed churches, but some remained, most importantly the doctrine of the trinity. The Reformed churches were effectively still worshipping the gods of Babylon. God the Father excuses false worship done in ignorance, so He was not absent in the Reformation and the Reformed churches. In the mid-19th century God brought about the ultimate Reformation with the inception of the Advent Movement. These people searched Scriptures and developed a set of Bible-based doctrines, including the recognition of the One True God and His Only Begotten Son (John 17:3). However, Satan hated the Reformation, especially Adventism which had restored the worship of the One True God. During the 20th century the Masons and the Jesuits infiltrated Adventism, and with the great theological contribution of LeRoy Edwin Froom, introduced the doctrine of the trinity into Adventism. Today there is no significant movement that worships the One True God. The stage is set for the First Angel’s Message, calling the World back to true worship of the Creator because the end of the world is approaching.

Protestantism is the collection of the daughters of the Mother Church. Today the Protestant movements, just like Catholicism, are using the need of mankind to worship his creator to establish their existence. They are using religion to make money. They are using the prerogatives of God for their own selfish gains. That is why Revelation calls the Catholic Church a harlot, and all the churches that arose out of her during the Reformation, the same. In Rev 17 Babylon (the Catholic Church) is called the mother of harlots:

5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

This verse has a whole string of titles for Catholicism. She is called “mystery.” It is interesting how the past GC president, when talking about the trinity, said it is not in the Bible, that it is a mystery, and we accept this doctrine by faith. She is also called the mother of the abominations of the Earth. If there is one abomination on the Earth today, it is wars. The past at least two centuries Catholicism has been directly and indirectly involved with most of the wars on Earth. This is especially true about the American war of Independence, the American Civil War, the two World Wars, and most of the proxy wars of the USA since the Second World War. The war in the Ukraine today has been instigated by the globalists, and Catholicism stands behind globalism. Let’s not get into the multi-genderism in the World today, and the practice of homosexuality of the clergy.

The call of Rev 18 is for us to come out of false worship, which includes Protestantism and even corporate Adventism today. Women in Revelation are mainly false religious institutions – Babylon and her daughters. The 144 000 are not defiled with women:

Rev 14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

We will be called out of the established religions of the world just before the end of time. It is time to completely devote ourselves to God, and He will lead us in what we ought to do in these final hours of Earth’s history.

    God bless you.

  • Good evening, brethren.

    1. Do you pray in the evening? Our evening prayer focuses on " reflecting on God’s gifts."

    2. Do you know how to magnify God?

    3. Do you know God's picture for marriage & the family? P.4.

    4. Have you met the two classes of Christians?

To know more, read the message below:

Amen.

    2. How to Magnify God.

I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. (Psalm 69:30)

There are two kinds of magnifying: microscope magnifying and telescope magnifying. The one makes a small thing look bigger than it is. The other makes a big thing begin to look as big as it really is.

When David says, “I will magnify God with thanksgiving,” he does not mean, “I will make a small God look bigger than he is.” He means, “I will make a big God begin to look as big as he really is.”

We are not called to be microscopes. We are called to be telescopes. Christians are not called to be con-men who magnify their product out of all proportion to reality, when they know the competitor’s product is far superior. There is nothing and nobody superior to God. And so the calling of those who love God is to make his greatness begin to look as great as it really is.

That’s why we exist, why we were saved, as Peter says in 1 Peter 2:9, “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

The whole duty of the Christian can be summed up in this: feel, think, and act in a way that will make God look as great as he really is. Be a telescope for the world of the infinite starry wealth of the glory of God.

This is what it means for a Christian to magnify God. But you can’t magnify what you haven’t seen or what you quickly forget.

Therefore, our first task is to see and to remember the greatness and goodness of God. So we pray to God, “Open the eyes of my heart!” (Ephesians 1:18), and we preach to our souls, “Soul, forget not all his benefits!” (Psalm 103:2).

She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hand holds the spindle. She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed with scarlet. She makes tapestry for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. – (Proverbs 31:19-22)
    Daily Bible Study
This section of passages is a continuation of the last section and it speaks again about the perseverance, wisdom and hard work of the excellent wife. Now each of these passages are not meant to be taken literally. Rather, they come together to show the importance, value and necessity for a wife and mother who is devoted to her family. A wife and mother were meant to thrive under the support and protection of a loving husband. Moreover, it shows all the aspects of daily life of caring for a family and how varied and important each task is not only to the family, but also to society. We see in these passages how her family is well cared for and prepared for all seasons.

And the phrase “her clothing is fine linen and purple” is meant to give us an indication of the quality of her work. However, if we step back and look at this chapter as a whole, we see the big picture and the overall message. Which is the importance of the role of the wife and mother in the family, and therefore to society! This is important because our world today has spent considerable time and effort telling everyone that being a mother and wife is not fulfilling. That somehow those roles should be subservient to career and success and as we can see from these passages that is just not true. Moreover, the role of wife and mother is one of the most important roles in our society today. This is because mothers help shape the hearts and minds of the next generation. Moreover, mothers and grandmothers play an important role in leading their children to Christ Jesus our Lord.

    The Humble Place
I have met two classes of Christians: the proud who imagine they are humble and the humble who are afraid they are proud! There should be another class—the self-forgetful men and women who leave the whole thing in the hands of Christ and refuse to waste any time trying to make themselves good. They will reach the goal far ahead of the rest. The truly humble person does not expect to find virtue in himself; and when he finds none, he is not disappointed. He knows that any good deed he may do is the result of God’s working within him. When this belief becomes so much a part of any man or woman that it operates as a kind of unconscious reflex, he or she is released from the burden of trying to live up to the opinion they hold of themselves. They can relax and count upon the Holy Spirit to fulfill the moral law within them. Let us never forget that the promises of God are made to the humble: the proud man by his pride forfeits every blessing promised to the lowly heart, and from the hand of God he need expect only justice!

    Verse
All of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility. 1 Peter 5:5

    Thought
The truly humble person does not expect to find virtue in himself; and when he finds none, he is not disappointed.

    Prayer
Lord, give me a life that is Yours to work through. Work in and through me. Make me a relaxed and willing vessel through which you are free to work as you will.

Good evening, brethren. 1. Do you pray in the evening? Our evening prayer focuses on " reflecting on God’s gifts." 2. Do you know how to magnify God? 3. Do you know God's picture for marriage & the family? P.4. 4. Have you met the two classes of Christians? To know more, read the message below: 1. Evening Prayer This [is] the day [which] the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. ⏤ Psalm 118:24 A day without prayer is a day without blessing, and a life without prayer is a life without power. ⏤ Edwin Harvey O blessed Jesus, whom we love even though we have not seen You, in whom, though we do not see You, we believe and rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory—we come to You at the close of another day. Amen. https://www.youdevotion.com/daily-prayer/miller/53/evening #taptapstudio #youdevotion. 2. How to Magnify God. I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. (Psalm 69:30) There are two kinds of magnifying: microscope magnifying and telescope magnifying. The one makes a small thing look bigger than it is. The other makes a big thing begin to look as big as it really is. When David says, “I will magnify God with thanksgiving,” he does not mean, “I will make a small God look bigger than he is.” He means, “I will make a big God begin to look as big as he really is.” We are not called to be microscopes. We are called to be telescopes. Christians are not called to be con-men who magnify their product out of all proportion to reality, when they know the competitor’s product is far superior. There is nothing and nobody superior to God. And so the calling of those who love God is to make his greatness begin to look as great as it really is. That’s why we exist, why we were saved, as Peter says in 1 Peter 2:9, “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” The whole duty of the Christian can be summed up in this: feel, think, and act in a way that will make God look as great as he really is. 3.
