  • Yesterday I preached about God's covenant with David and how personal this was; He promised to make David's name great. This occurred just after David asked to build the temple for God, he wanted God to be central within Israel; then he was blessed. When we put God first in our lives, he gives us many promises also; like Be with you; Provide for your needs; Peace amid chaos; Everything will work for good; forgive your sins' strength in weakness, rest, and finally, to never leave you.
    These promises are for believers and contain conditions. If you remain in me then I will remain in you. ie.

  • The theme of God as a divine warrior (see Exodus 14:14) spans the landscape of Scripture. Exodus 15 poetically depicts God at war with Pharaoh’s army, saying, “The Lord is a warrior” (v. 3). One Bible encyclopedia has this to say: “In the New Testament, the Divine Warrior theme is fulfilled in the person and work of Jesus Christ. While the imagery shifts from physical battles to spiritual warfare, the essence of God as a warrior remains. In Revelation, Christ is depicted as the ultimate Divine Warrior who will defeat evil and establish His kingdom.” Today, when faced with temptation, we can rest in God, who fights for us.

  • PROVERB OF THE DAY

    ( Proverbs 24)

    1. Do not be envious of evil men,
    Nor desire to be with them;

    2. For their heart devises violence,
    And their lips talk of troublemaking.

    3. Through wisdom a house is built,
    And by understanding it is established;

    4. By knowledge the rooms are filled
    With all precious and pleasant riches.

    5. A wise man is strong,
    Yes, a man of knowledge increases strength;

    6. For by wise counsel you will wage your own war,
    And in a multitude of counselors there is safety.

    7. Wisdom is too lofty for a fool;
    He does not open his mouth in the gate.

    8. He who plots to do evil
    Will be called a schemer.

    9. The devising of foolishness is sin,
    And the scoffer is an abomination to men.

    10. If you faint in the day of adversity,
    Your strength is small.

    11. Deliver those who are drawn toward death,
    And hold back those
    stumbling to the slaughter.

    12. If you say, “Surely we did not know this,” Does not He who weighs the hearts consider it?
    He who keeps your soul, does He not know it?
    And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?

    13. My son, eat honey because it is good,
    And the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste;

    14. So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul;If you have found it, there is a prospect, And your hope will not be cut off.

    15. Do not lie in wait, O wicked man,
    against the dwelling of the righteous;
    Do not plunder his resting place;

    16. For a righteous man may fall seven times
    And rise again,
    But the wicked shall fall by calamity.

    17. Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, And do not
    Let your heart be glad when he stumbles;

    18. Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him,
    And He turn away His wrath from him.

    19. Do not fret because of evildoers,
    Nor be envious of the wicked;

    20. For there will be no prospect for the evil man;
    The lamp of the wicked will be put out.

    21. My son, fear the LORD and the king;
    Do not associate with those given to change;

    22. For their calamity will rise suddenly,
    And who knows the ruin those two can bring?

    23.These things
    also belong to the wise:

    It is not good to show partiality in judgment.

    24. He who says to the wicked, “You are righteous,”
    Him the people will curse;
    Nations will abhor him.

    25. But those who rebuke the wicked will have delight,
    And a good blessing will come upon them.

    26. He who gives a right answer kisses the lips.

    27. Prepare your outside work,
    Make it fit for yourself in the field;
    And afterward build your house.

    28. Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause,
    For would you deceive with your lips?

    29. Do not say, “I will do to him just as he has done to me;
    I will render to the man according to his work.”

    30. I went by the field of the lazy man,
    And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding;

    31. And there it was, all overgrown with thorns;
    Its surface was covered with nettles;
    Its stone wall was broken down.

    32. When I saw it, I considered it well;
    I looked on it and received instruction:

    33. A little sleep, a little slumber,
    A little folding of the hands to rest;

    34. So shall your poverty come like a prowler,
    And your need like an armed man.

  • Don’t Give Up on God (Galatians 6:9)

    There are moments when you feel tired.

    Tired of praying.

    Tired of waiting.

    Tired of trying.

    Tired of fighting the same battles.

    Tired of seeing other people move forward while you seem to be standing still.

    And sometimes the easiest thought is:

    “Maybe I should just give up.”

    But God's Word reminds us:

    “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

    Read that again:

    If we do not give up.

    Following Jesus doesn't mean you will never become tired.

    Faith doesn't mean you will never experience disappointment.

    Being a Christian doesn't mean every prayer will be answered immediately.

    There will be seasons when you have to keep walking even when you cannot see the destination.

    Think about a farmer.

    A farmer plants a seed, but doesn't see the harvest immediately.

    There is a season of waiting.

    A season of watering.

    A season of working.

    A season when nothing seems to be happening above the ground.

    But beneath the surface, something is happening.

    Your spiritual life can be like that.

    You may pray and feel like nothing is changing.

    You may read God's Word and wonder whether your situation will ever improve.

    You may serve others without seeing the impact.

    You may share your faith and wonder whether anyone is listening.

    Don't assume that nothing is happening simply because you cannot see the results yet.

    God can be working in ways you don't understand.

    Your responsibility is to remain faithful.

    Keep praying.

    Keep trusting.

    Keep serving.

    Keep learning.

    Keep loving.

    Keep obeying.

    Keep sharing Jesus.

    And when you fall, get back up.

    Peter failed Jesus.

    David made serious mistakes.

    Elijah became discouraged.

    Moses became frustrated.

    Many people in Scripture experienced moments of weakness.

    But their weakness wasn't the end of their story.

    God's grace met them there.

    Maybe today you feel like you've failed God too many times.

    Remember:

    Failure is not an invitation to run away from God.

    It is an invitation to return to Him.

    Confess.

    Repent.

    Receive His grace.

    Get back up.

    Keep walking.

    Sometimes perseverance doesn't look dramatic.

    Sometimes it simply means getting out of bed and praying again.

    Opening your Bible again.

    Going to church again.

    Trying again.

    Forgiving again.

    Serving again.

    Believing again.

    Taking one more step.

    And another.

    And another.

    You don't have to finish the entire journey today.

    Just take the next faithful step.

    There may be people around you who are also struggling silently.

    Your perseverance can encourage them.

    When they see you continue trusting God through difficult seasons, they may discover that faith isn't about having a perfect life.

    It's about having a faithful God.

    And ultimately, our hope isn't based on our ability to remain strong.

    Our hope is based on Jesus.

    He endured rejection.

    He endured suffering.

    He endured the cross.

    And He rose again.

    Because Christ overcame, we have reason to keep going.

    So if you're tired today, rest—but don't quit.

    If you need help, ask for it.

    If you need prayer, pray.

    If you need encouragement, reach out to another believer.

    But don't walk away from God because the road is difficult.

    The harvest may not be visible yet.

    Keep sowing.

    Keep trusting.

    Keep believing.

    At the right time, God will bring about what He has planned.

    Don't give up in the season when you cannot yet see the harvest. God is still working.

    What is one area of your life where you need to keep trusting God instead of giving up?

  • Dear Father,

    Yesterday, I learned that there is a Jewish rabbinic belief that the Amalekites were associated with sorcery and could disguise themselves as animals. I don't know how true this is, but I pondered on it, particularly because Your instruction to King Saul, when he was commanded to destroy the Amalekites, was to “Go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.”

    There are other instances where You gave similar instructions, but this one stands out to me, especially because Saul disobeyed: “And spared the best of the sheep, oxen, fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and did not utterly destroy them.” Sadly, all that seemed good to them was included in the instruction for destruction. What if there was more to the destruction of the animals than the superficial destruction of animals? What if, in their disobedience, they opened themselves up to witchcraft?

    One of the greatest obstacles to obeying divine instructions is our need to understand and make sense of them. In doing so, we sometimes modify them, often without realizing that there may be a bigger picture on the other side of our obedience. And In our lifetime, we may never fully comprehend the consequences or obstructions caused by our disobedience because, for us, it may just be a harmless and continual exchange of devotion with You for rest, and many other scenarios that apply.

    But perhaps the biggest problem with our disobedience is that we do not always see the bigger picture.

    Dear Father, Yesterday, I learned that there is a Jewish rabbinic belief that the Amalekites were associated with sorcery and could disguise themselves as animals. I don't know how true this is, but I pondered on it, particularly because Your instruction to King Saul, when he was commanded to destroy the Amalekites, was to “Go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.” There are other instances where You gave similar instructions, but this one stands out to me, especially because Saul disobeyed: “And spared the best of the sheep, oxen, fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and did not utterly destroy them.” Sadly, all that seemed good to them was included in the instruction for destruction. What if there was more to the destruction of the animals than the superficial destruction of animals? What if, in their disobedience, they opened themselves up to witchcraft? One of the greatest obstacles to obeying divine instructions is our need to understand and make sense of them. • OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

    DATE: MONDAY 24TH AUGUST 2026

    TOPIC: NOTHING GOOD TO OFFER

    MEMORIZE:
    "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7 (KJV)

    BIBLE READING: LUKE 11:24-26
    24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.

    25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.

    26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

    MESSAGE:
    The devil has two types of captives: the willing captives and the unwilling captives. An unwilling captive is someone who has entered either willingly or unwillingly into the trap of the devil but now wants to be delivered. Such a fellow will be set free from the devil’s hold when an anointed child of God prays for him or her.

    A willing captive, on the other hand, is someone who also gets into the devil’s hold either willingly or unwillingly but refuses to repent or be delivered because of the perceived benefits he or she is getting by serving satan. Even if such a fellow is forcefully delivered, he or she will return to the devil’s camp, and this time around, the bondage will be much worse because the demon(s) that were previously cast out will be multiplied sevenfold (Matthew 12:43-45).

    Many years ago, we discovered that a witch was among us in the church. We prayed for her to be delivered; however, she remained in bondage. We then asked her if she wanted to be free, and she said, “No. Do you want me to lose the power that I use to control my husband?” Such thinking is very unfortunate because those who serve the devil are headed for eternal damnation if they do not repent.

    A woman whose children were dying one after the other went to seek help from a prophet because she needed him to pray to God for their protection.
    While waiting for him, his wife asked her why she wanted to see her husband. She explained why she had come, and the prophet’s wife gave her a kolanut to eat, telling her it would solve her problem and that she didn’t need to wait for her husband again.

    When she went to sleep that night, she suddenly found herself among some witches in the spirit realm. They welcomed her and promised to protect her children if she joined them. She agreed based on their promise, and after some time, it became her turn to supply the blood that the coven would drink. At that point, she surrendered her husband to be sacrificed.
    More time passed, and it became her turn again to supply blood. This time, however, the witches asked her to sacrifice her children. That was when she decided to seek God’s help to save her children from the devil’s plan. Thank God she came to the church, and God delivered her.

    Beloved, the devil offers nothing good or lasting. For everything he gives, he takes a thousandfold in return. I pray that God grants you the grace to avoid his traps, and if he currently has any hold over you and you are willing to be set free, I decree your liberty now, in Jesus’ name.

    KEY POINT:
    The devil has nothing good to give. Those who serve him are headed for eternal damnation.

    BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR: EZEKIEL 1-4

    AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

    HYMNAL 23 : ALL TO JESUS, I SURRENDER

    I surrender all:
    All to Thee, my blessed saviour
    I surrender all

    2. All to Jesus I surrender,
    Humbly at His feet l bow;
    Worldly pleasures all forsaken.
    Take me, Jesus, take me now.

    CHORUS:

    3. All to Jesus I surrender. Lord, I give myself to Thee; Fill me with Thy love and power, Let Thy blessing fall on me.

    CHORUS:

    now I feel the sacred flame
    o the joy of full salvation!
    Glory, glory to His name!

    In a world full of noise, pressure, and uncertainty, sometimes the greatest act of faith is simply to be still and trust God.

    Take a deep breath.
    Release your worries.
    Trust what you cannot see.
    Rest in His presence.
    Let His peace calm your heart.

    “Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

    God is your refuge. He is your strength. He is with you, and He will never leave you.

    Today, choose faith over fear. Pray about everything, believe His promises, wait for His timing, and walk in His ways.

    God is good—all the time!

    Comment AMEN if you are trusting God today.
