Love Is In the Little Things

    By Yvonne Shelton

    August 22nd, 2026

“It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24

I don’t know about you, but as I get older, my memory is getting less sharp. For the past couple of weeks, I’d searched for some bank checks I had ordered. I looked everywhere, and couldn’t find them. I knew I’d ordered them, and some of them had arrived, but I couldn’t find the rest.

I was planning on leaving town, so things were getting down to the wire. But I couldn’t leave without finding out what happened to my checks. So, I prayed. Lord, I know this may seem like a small thing, but I really need to find my checks. Please help me! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Literally, as soon as I said “Amen,” the phone rang. It was my friend, Dee from 3ABN. She said, “I’m here at the post office and they say they have some checks for Magnify Him Publishing. Isn’t that your company? They didn’t want to send them back, but because they’re in your company’s name, they weren’t sure they were yours.”

I couldn’t believe it! I had just prayed about these checks, and the Lord answered my prayer immediately! What a mighty God we serve! What a faithful Father! He was showing me that He hears even the smallest requests. It was such a faith-enhancing moment! I was so taken aback by His timing. Dee just “happened” to be at the post office when I was praying. The postmaster just “happened” to ask her about my checks. As my husband, Danny would ask, “Is that coincidence, or Divine Providence?”

To me, it’s obviously Divine Providence! There is no request too small or too large for God. He is so kind. Isaiah 54:10 says, “For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed….”

Never feel as though He’s too busy to hear you, or that your petition is too insignificant for Him to address. He loves each and every one of us and shows up right on time. He may not always answer immediately, and He may not say yes every time. But He will always do what’s best for His children. He shows us that love is in the little things.

    Read; Romans 12:10

To be "devoted to each other in brotherly love," we can't just say in church that we're family, brothers and sisters, and children of God; we have to show it. We need to get to know each other and be a part of each other's lives so we can serve, love, and bless each other. What have you done recently to get more involved in the lives of your fellow Christians? Devotion to others comes after making an effort to get to know them and be known by them.

    Prayer

Father, thank You for giving me a large extended family in Christ and for loving me with unwavering love. Help me be generous with my time and willing to share my life with those in Your family. Give me a deep desire to bless those You have adopted as Your children, and the humility to receive their care as well. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.

Is it necessary to pray “In Jesus’ name” at the end of every prayer?

    August 22nd, 2026

Jesus actually commands us to pray in His name. He says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you” (John 16:23). This doesn’t mean, however, that just saying His name has some kind of magical power.

Suppose I go to a complete stranger asking for a favor. They’re not likely to listen to my request. But if I bring them a letter from their best friend, someone they love, and it’s signed by their best friend—well, that could make a big difference. I say to them, “Look, I’ve come in the name of Henry, and here’s a letter from Henry, signed by him. Can you help me with this problem?” If they love Henry, and I’m coming in Henry’s name, they will listen to me.

Jesus told us, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). When we come to the Father, we come in the name of the Lord Jesus and say, “Please, hear my prayer. Not because I deserve it. I’ve been alienated from you by sin. But because of your love for your Son, please honor my request for His sake.” That’s really what it means to pray in Jesus’ name. It can also mean to pray with the mind and the spirit of Christ and with the same attitude that Jesus had.

Of course, the Father loves us too; He wants us to come to Him. That’s why He sent Jesus to bridge the gap. Jesus said, “In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God” (John 16:26, 27).

THE HERESY PREACHERS OF THE LAST DAYS

_“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”_ Matthew 24:24 KJV

Beloved, the last days will not only be marked by scoffers. They will also be marked by deceivers.

Few weeks ago a dear leader was invited to a Facebook “bible study” about the second coming. At first it sounded good. But when he asked honest questions about their claim that _“Jesus has already come secretly”_ and that _“they alone have the sealed book of Revelation”_, he was removed. That is how heresy works. It invites you in with sweet words, but it silences you the moment you bring the light of Scripture.

This is not new. Paul warned Timothy, _“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.”_ 2 Timothy 4:3. In the last days, heresy preachers will rise. They will speak with confidence. They will quote verses out of context. They will claim special revelation. They will say, _“Lo, here is Christ, or lo, he is there.”_ But Jesus already warned us: _“Believe it not.”_ Matthew 24:23-26.

What are the marks of these heresy preachers?

They deny or distort the public coming of Christ. The Bible says _“every eye shall see him.”_ Revelation 1:7. _“For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”_ Matthew 24:27. Any teaching of a “secret coming” that bypasses the trumpet, the resurrection, and the clouds is false. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.

They claim exclusive knowledge. _“We have the sealed book. We have the new revelation no one else has.”_ But John already closed the canon with a warning. Revelation 22:18-19. The Holy Spirit does not contradict the Word He inspired. If anyone tells you to follow them because they have secret truth, run.

They cannot endure questions. Truth welcomes testing. Acts 17:11 _“These were more noble... in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”_ Heresy blocks, bans, and bullies. That is because light exposes it. John 3:20.

Leaders, our job in this hour is to guard the flock. Acts 20:28-30. We must teach people how to test every spirit. 1 John 4:1. We must root our people in the Word so deeply that when error comes, they will say, _“That does not line up.”_

Do not be afraid to ask questions. Do not be intimidated out of groups. Jesus said, _“Take heed that no man deceive you.”_ Matthew 24:4. Stay in the Word. Stay in community that honors Scripture. And stay under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, not under men who claim to be the only voice of God.

The real Jesus is coming. Publicly. Gloriously. With power. And He needs leaders who will not be moved by every new doctrine. Ephesians 4:14.

    Prayer For Today
Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray for discernment. Deliver Your people from deception. Expose every false teacher and every lying spirit. Give us a hunger for Your Word and a heart that tests all things. Keep me and the people You have given me from being tossed to and fro. Anchor us in truth. Make us bold to question, bold to obey, and bold to defend the gospel. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    Today's Declaration
I will not be deceived. I test every spirit by the Word. Jesus is coming publicly, and I am ready. I am rooted in truth, led by the Spirit, and I will guard the flock God has given me.

    Bible Reading Plan
    Matthew 24:4-28, 2 Peter 2:1-3, 1 John 4:1-6, 2 Timothy 3:1-9, Acts 20:27-31, Jude 1:3-4

    Today’s Action
Leaders, do three things this week:
    1. Teach your people the difference between truth and error using Scripture. Take 10 minutes in your next meeting to go through Matthew 24:23-27.
    2. Model openness to questions. Create a safe place where people can ask, “Is this biblical?” without fear of being removed.
    3. If you encounter false teaching online or offline, don’t argue endlessly. Mark it, avoid it, and warn others lovingly. Romans 16:17.

Remember: The devil’s goal in the last days is not just to make you sin. It is to make you believe a lie. Stay in the Word, and the Word will keep you.

    Prayer Of Salvation
_Have you given your life to Jesus today? If not, pray this prayer with me now:_
_Lord Jesus Christ, I know I am a sinner. I repent of my sins and I turn to You. Forgive me and wash me with Your blood. Today I accept You as my Lord and personal Savior. Please write my name in the Book of Life and take it out of the book of death. Give me Your Spirit and the power to live for You and to sin no more. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me. From today, I declare that I am a child of God. Amen._

    Stay Spiritually Alert

Acts 20 records a remarkable event during Paul's visit to Troas. As Paul taught late into the night, a young man named Eutychus fell asleep while sitting in a window. He fell from the third story and died. Through God's miraculous power, Paul embraced him, and the young man was restored to life, bringing great comfort and encouragement to everyone present.

While this passage highlights God's miraculous power, it also serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining spiritually alert. Just as physical weariness affected Eutychus, believers must guard against spiritual complacency that can cause us to drift from close fellowship with God.

For believers today, God calls us to remain attentive to His Word and active in our relationship with Him. Through regular prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with other believers, our faith is strengthened, and we are prepared to faithfully follow Christ each day.

    Reflection Questions

    1. Am I staying spiritually alert each day?

    2. What distractions keep me from focusing on God's Word?

    3. How can I grow stronger in my walk with Christ?

    Prayer

Lord God, thank You for the life and hope You give through Jesus Christ. Help me to remain spiritually awake and attentive to Your Word. Strengthen my faith and keep my heart focused on You each day. In Jesus name Amen.

    Practical Application

    ● Set aside uninterrupted time for daily Bible reading.

    ● Remove distractions that hinder your spiritual growth.

    ● Stay connected with other believers for encouragement.

    Takeaway Thought

A spiritually alert heart is ready to receive and obey God's truth.

    DATE: SATURDAY 22ND AUGUST 2026

    TOPIC: BREAKING COVENANTS, PART 2

    MEMORIZE:
"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world" 1 John 4:4 (KJV)

    BIBLE READING: 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17-19
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

    18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

    MESSAGE:
Years ago, one of my daughters in the Lord came to me and said, "Daddy, a young man approached me and said he wants to marry me." I congratulated her, but she replied, "Daddy, my father told me that I was dedicated to a river goddess when I was born, and a covenant was made that whoever I marry is going to die on our wedding day. I don't want the young man to die." I told her that I know someone stronger than the river goddess. We prayed a simple prayer, and she left. The next time I saw her, she was happily married and already had a baby. I declare that any evil force that might be hindering your progress is destroyed today, in Jesus' name.

A new and greater covenant can cancel a previously existing one. For instance, if you want to break a covenant with someone, all you need to do is enter into a covenant with someone greater; the greater fellow can release you from the lesser person's covenant by force. If a person enters into a covenant with the devil, the moment he or she enters into a covenant with God, He will wipe out all evil covenants from the fellow's life. God's covenant is superior to any other covenant. Our God is stronger than the strongest; therefore, once a person enters into a covenant with Him, He will bind any strong man who was previously in charge of the fellow's life and throw him out.

It is also important to note that the devil still seeks to retain his strongholds in the lives of people even after they have become born again. A stronghold is a deeply entrenched evil pattern that the devil has instilled in a person, and it must be addressed. Otherwise, the person will continue to operate under its influence even after he or she has become born again. Such strongholds typically include bitterness, pride, generational curses, anger, and other similar issues.

Beloved, (2 Corinthians 10:3-5) urges us to pull down strongholds and cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. If you are a party to any evil covenant or are under the influence of any demonic stronghold, cry out to God today to deliver you by His mighty power. I join my faith with yours and decree that you are completely free from any evil covenant or demonic stronghold that might be in your life, in Jesus' name.

    KEY POINT:
Having a covenant with God annuls every evil covenant in a person's life.

    BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR:
    LAMENTATIONS 1 - 2

    AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMNAL 10 - IN CHRIST ALONE
1 In Christ alone, my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
    This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

2 In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

3 There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

4 No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
    Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SATURDAY 22ND AUGUST 2026 TOPIC: BREAKING COVENANTS, PART 2 MEMORIZE: "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world" 1 John 4:4 (KJV) BIBLE READING: 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17-19 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. MESSAGE: Years ago, one of my daughters in the Lord came to me and said, "Daddy, a young man approached me and said he wants to marry me." I congratulated her, but she replied, "Daddy, my father told me that I was dedicated to a river goddess when I was born, and a covenant was made that whoever I marry is going to die on our wedding day. KEY POINT: Having a covenant with God annuls every evil covenant in a person's life. BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR: LAMENTATIONS 1 - 2 AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. OLD TESTAMENT
RUTH 2 — Ruth Meets Boaz
    NEW TESTAMENT
    1 JOHN 4 — God Is Love
    MAJOR PROPHETS
ISAIAH 33 — The Lord Is Our Judge and King
    Today's Reflection
    Ruth 2
Ruth goes out to glean in the fields and is providentially brought to Boaz, a man of kindness and integrity. Her humility and diligence, together with Boaz's generosity, remind us that God can guide our steps even when we cannot see what He is doing.
    1 John 4
John teaches that God is love and that those who belong to God should demonstrate that love toward others. We are also called to discern what is true and remain grounded in the truth about Jesus Christ.
    Isaiah 33
Isaiah points God's people toward the Lord as their ultimate security. When human strength fails, God remains our Judge, Lawgiver, King, and Savior.
    KEY VERSE
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
    — 1 John 4:8
    PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unfailing love. Help us to recognize Your guidance even when we cannot see the full picture. Give us hearts that love others sincerely, wisdom to discern truth from error, and confidence to depend on You as our King and Savior. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
WE STUDY. WE PRAY. WE OBEY. WE GROW. UNTIL WE ARE TOTALLY TRANSFORMED.
    TODAY'S CHALLENGE
Show God's love through a deliberate act of kindness today. Trust Him with the things you cannot see, and let your actions demonstrate the love you profess.

    “WHO GOD IS TO ME”
    MY STRENGTH
    Psalm 73:26 (LLV) —
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
    There are limits
    to our strength.
    We may not
    notice them
    when life
    is easy.
    We make plans.
    Carry responsibilities.
    Solve problems.
    Keep moving.
    And sometimes
    we begin
    to believe
    we are stronger
    than we really are.
    Then life
    reminds us.
    “My flesh
    and my heart
    may fail.”
    Asaph does not
    pretend
    otherwise.
    Bodies
    grow weary.
    Emotions
    become exhausted.
    Courage
    sometimes falters.
    There are moments
    when even
    the strongest person
    must finally admit,
    “I cannot
    do this
    on my own.”
    But Asaph
    does not stop
    with what
    can fail.
    He turns
    immediately
    to the One
    who cannot.
    “But God…”
    Two small words
    change everything.
    My strength
    may fail.
    But God.
    My confidence
    may weaken.
    But God.
    I may reach
    the end
    of what
    I can carry.
    But God.
    He is
    “the strength
    of my heart.”
    God does not
    merely give
    strength
    from somewhere
    far away.
    Asaph says
    God Himself
    is
    his strength.
    There is
    a freedom
    in realizing
    that we do not
    have to be
    strong enough
    for everything.
    We were never
    asked
    to be.
    There are burdens
    too heavy
    for us.
    Questions
    too large
    for us.
    Journeys
    too difficult
    for us
    to walk
    in our own strength.
    And perhaps
    sometimes
    we must reach
    the end
    of our strength
    before we discover
    how faithfully
    God has been
    holding us.
    Then Asaph
    adds something
    beautiful:
    “And my portion
    forever.”
    A person's portion
    was what
    belonged
    to him.
    His inheritance.
    His possession.
    The thing
    upon which
    his future
    rested.
    Asaph looks
    at everything
    that can disappear
    and says,
    in effect,
    “Even if
    everything else
    is taken away,
    I still
    have God.”
    And if
    I have Him,
    I have
    what matters
    most.
    Our bodies
    will not
    remain strong
    forever.
    Circumstances
    will change.
    Things
    we depend upon
    today
    may someday
    be gone.
    But God
    does not diminish
    with time.
    When our strength
    is small,
    His is not.
    When our hands
    can no longer
    hold everything,
    we discover
    that He
    has been holding
    us all along.
A new beginning sometimes starts with three honest words—“I am weak”—followed by two far greater ones:
    “But God.”
Reflection: Where am I exhausting myself trying to be strong enough, instead of allowing God to be the strength of my heart?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that I do not have to face every burden in my own strength. When my body grows tired, my courage weakens, or my heart feels overwhelmed, remind me that You remain. Teach me to depend upon Your strength instead of pretending I have enough of my own. Whatever changes around me, let me always know that You are my strength and my portion forever. In Jesus' name, Amen.
